Spyro the dragon

Spyro the dragon
>given crt tvs of the time you wouldn't notice polygon wobbling
>blurriness of crt negates need of texture filtering
>higher polygon count in the average scene and way more level geometry, better looking scenes because of better textures and cd soundtracks

Mario 64
>lol here's some big empty boxes because the n64 can't even fucking render background walls because fps drops
>lol enemies and objects are sprites despite the more powerful hardware
>muh analog controls

people honestly have nostalgia for the low poly and nogame n64 lol

Mario 64 looks like shit because it's a launch title, conker looks like a fucking gamecube game.

Spyro the dragon

Mario 64

psx release date
December 3, 1994

n64 releasedate\

what the fuck does that have to do with mario 64 being a launch title

nintendo managed to do less on better hardware

>boring cinematic snoy soulless cashgrab
>vs
>fun, handcrafted gameplay-first comfy soulful experience so well designed you don't even need to press A or use the analogue stick if your IQ is high enough

the only reason people bought an n64

sorry your parents didn't let you play t he much superior metal gear solid and instead had to play the simplified link to the past ocarina of time

Pretty much. Zelda, WWF and Pokemon Stadium were the only N64 games people bought

>Given CRT's of the time you wouldn't notice texture wobbling

What the actual fuck zoomer bullshit history revisionism is this

Plain and simply, Mario 64 had an actual analog and Spyro had fucking tank controls
Not to mention all the level design in Spyro is based off these fucking tank controls
Here you go, have a literal fucking nothing to drive in with your rapidly accelerating dragon tank

Mario 64 is literally the first 3D platformer that required a modicum of precision that didn't feel like shit or "age" as hard

Attached: images.jpg (300x168, 7K)

Judging by the actual numbers the only thing people bought PSX for was Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, and Crash, which literally make the entire top 10

Replace final fantasy with Tekken and I'd agree with you

there was also the rental market

but not on the n64

because it had no games

>given crt tvs of the time you wouldn't notice polygon wobbling

How the fuck has nobody pointed out this bullshit yet. Is Yea Forums really this young?

Crash's core gameplay could be achieved on SNES, it'd just look something like this. M64, meanwhile, codified 3D platformers as we know today.
Also read up on Crash's development, it's interesting to know all the hopps they had to jump through to squeeze that kind of performance out of PS1.

is this from the treehouse of horror comics?

speaking as someone who played Spyro just last month, it's a beautiful game, but the controls are just garbage

Yeah but Mario 64 didn't incite violence, unlike Spyro

I believe so, those were great. My favorite was the Friday the 13th parody.

>Here you go
Maximum cherrypicking

I honestly never liked Mario 64 but given a choice I would rather play that again than spiro since it is mind numbingly easy. I literally do not understand how I enjoyed this as a child.

>had fucking tank controls
I'll grant the relevance when at walking speed (where it really isn't even a detriment), but tank turning in a full sprint is perfectly fine. Literally the only consequence is that you can't do a maneuver of leaning back to stop a sprint and push off in a new direction which is basically never necessary in the game - full analog control would be a negligible improvement.

It feels good to charge around and wreck shit. It's really that simple.

I recently replayed Spyro and it is just kind of meh. It still looks beautiful, but it is fucking boring.
And I also played SM64 a year or two ago for the first time (never had an N64) and it was a blast. It feels very unique, especially on the more straight up platforming levels. The other platformers I played were more on the collectathon style or were action platformers like Ratchet and Clank. For the first time with SM64 I felt like I was playing an actual platformer in three dimensions. Other games feel so flat in comparison.

play the star road rom hack. you might have to use a guide for some of the stars but its very very good.

what are these hard parts of mario 64 you're talking about again?

>PSX having hd resolution and texture filtering
These nostalgiafags are awesome.
