I personally do not see a reason to run him over the other classes. soldier is very versatile but that in itself is not valuable. picking specialists that can do parts of his role but better is a smarter choice. for example demo can spam out chokes better than soldier. scout can deathmatch better than soldier. heavy can tank more damage than soldier. what exactly does soldier bring to the table that other classes do not? I don't want to say he is the weakest because spy exists but at least I can see bringing him to sap wrangled guns and backstab the sniper.

Both parts are wrong.
Scout can jump and kill the medic just as easily outside of last holds. On last you can run a sniper or spy who have a much better chance of outright killing the medic than soldier does. As for defending the medic, to stop somebody from bombing his medic he has to land an airshot. Airshots are not easy to hit, there is not a soldier in the world who hits them 100% of the time much less 50%. Scout on the other hand can deny a soldier easily AND get his medic out of danger quickly with the medic speed buff.

Scout does poorly if the enemy sees him coming in most situations. that is not an issue for scout because he can pick his fights and come back later when they're distracted or hurt. His mobility is his best asset.

And getting shot down by the enemy scouts which is nearly guaranteed to happen because rocket jumping makes a lot of noise. In most cases when you see a soldier get a medic kill it's because he was hiding in a spot that the enemy team didn't check and he drops on his head not because he pulled off some crazy chain jump and flew at the medic at 300mph and then juggled him into an airshot because that's not actually practical.

In unrestricted 6s you can use it as much as you want and every team so far has used it because it's that fucking good. 75% damage resistance is insane, that is effectively quadrupling your health. To put that into perspective a buffed scout with 185 hp has an effective 740 hp with a vaccinator buff.

Surfing rockets isn't difficult at all. If you want to kill a medic you need to either catch him by surprise or hit the sweet spot where you jump a little bit past him so you can shoot a rocket directly into his path to stop him from running away. If he's too close he runs under your feet and you can't aim any further. If he's too far away he can effortlessly surf your rocket to safety.

The scaling crit rate doesn't help even out the game, if anything it makes good players do better and worse players do okay because they'll occasionally get one, but the way crits work was designed to break stalemates, something which there are many more things since introduced to the game to help achieve this such as banners and other support items, as well as general gameplay meta changes.

The best part is the one argument that Yea Forums goes on about all the time of random crits being fun, is one that Dane agrees with and even says so. His dumb thing about you remembering being killed by crits more than getting crit kills is obnoxious though

Regardless of the whole "competitive should be casual lite" argument he makes, there's literally no reason crits and damage spread shouldn't be disabled. Consistency is never a bad thing, no matter how you try and swing it.

Random crits is such a divisive issue. On one hand, itd be completely logical For an FPS to remove Random Crits. On the other hand, it does make casual Valve TF2 memorable. It's never caused issues in the popularity in TF2 and was easily rammified by going to a community server that had it disabled.

The issue isnt the crits themselves but rather how shitty match making and getting to reliable community servers have become. Most casual players will be stuck thinking they can only play the Random crit Valve servers. While those who try to move onto Community servers usually find a lackthereof.
Itd be nice to just have valve chunk out some servers and make them no crit no spread by clicking options in MM.

I once paid 5 euros to become premium in a server. If I pressed "f" I could do a super jump in any direction, this allowed me to go on the top of the roof on Red's base in ctf_well as sniper right behind the spot in red in pic related.
Now that roof thing had an interesting property: the textures were only in the front. This allowed me to see everything from behind it but nobody could see me, so I'd take a look in complete safety, pop out, and headshot somebody.
