I think it's kinda funny how in the jukebox you get themes for all of the games but the reboot is left out like it never happened. I don't know. I feel they could have had the courtesy to include a track or two from that game because frankly the soundtrack wasn't bad.

In general it wasn't bad. Aw man. To this day I'm a little bummed over how everyone acted like it was the worst thing just because it wasn't called DMC5. Real talk, if they had just rewritten the story a teeny tiny bit to not have Dante be a "nephilim" or whatever, it could have been a bitching origin story predating all the other games, literally all they had to do was call it DMC5. And pretend it wasn't outsourced to Ninja Theory, like just omit the logo at the beginning, make it a GAME BY CAPCOM with just a tiny "additional consulting: ninja theory" in the credits and that's it. 10/10 game right there and everybody would have loved it to hell and back. Because now with the *actual* DMC5, you have the same modern urban-ish setting, you have the same slow pacing to all the moves that was introduced in the reboot. You still have it be very accessible, still have it not be all that difficult. All of those things people pretend to hate about the reboot, honestly you got them with DMC5. But DMC5 is called DMC5 so people stop acting like they don't like the dubstep fart soundtrack. You love that shit and you know it. I love that shit. BUT THE JAPS HAVE TO BE THE ONES DOING IT eh. Use king cerberus as dante, the move Ice age parries them easily, then spring forward with the swordmaster ability and hit them with some of those combos.
As Nero use ragtime breakage and go to town until you can buster or use rawhide to parry them.

The trick I realised against him is to try to get all his plants dead at the same time.
If you reduce the health of one to the point where it's ready to be hit with a finisher don't do it unless the others are close as well, otherwise another may just grow back before you can get the others down too. Missing the finisher window gives hardly any health back to the plant in comparison to a new one spawning, and when you kill three at once you get a generous window to attack the main part undeterred.

Cavelliere is kind of hard to get the hang of, but once you start nailing the timing on their maximum gear feature, you'll use them more often. It's hard because Cerberus and Cav don't really feel like they serve specific functions, but I've notice cerberus is unfairly good at parrying the tits off anything that moves and cav can really add some style to your combos with the slower timing of the animations

If you're wailing on one enemy and don't want to let up you can backslide quickly instead of dropping the enemy and turning away from them to deal with the flank.

try to use shadows multi-attacks to parry him, and griffon for just peppering damage.
save nightmare for when you're full with the DT gauge or your pets are stalemated.
you can parry with your cane, use it when you need to.
one thing that really turned the tide for me was using dodges (side/double jump) as a way to dodge for the pets. you can avoid a lot of stalemates and pet damage this way.
if you do those you can easily grind him down.

same applies to release, you need the same kind of timing to do it properly, or rely on royal revenge (royal guard level 4) which was practically made for newbies

this one you time not by the animation, but by the timing between button presses. you can't be mashing out the Y attacks or it'll just ruin your timing forever, actually tap out the attack strings you want to use. throttling on LT will come more naturally if you play this way. an easy way to get a hang of it is to exceed for air combos, it's easier because the rhythm is more evenly spaced out and you can land max act easily.

Bosses with V involves you being as close as humanly possible (sans Nidhogg if you're not going to laser all the plants at once with Nightmare) and dodging with jump and enemy step so you don't interrupt shit that actually matters.

Remove concentration, or at least tone down how much of a buff you get and remove/reduce the penalty for whiffing attacks. Dark Slayer level 4 adds trick left and trick right to the style button and can be used in the air. Give him back Rising Sun.

No other demons recognised him though, but when you think about it the only other demons we faced were unintelligent or otherwise unable to communicate (Artemis, Nidhogg, Gilgamesh etc) or had no reason to go after the fruit personally because they were subservant to Urizen (Cavaliere, Malphas etc). Goliath was the only demon we fought who wasn’t working for Urizen that could talk.

RI gets you to A and you can air taunt for S. If you're good you can RG shadows spikes and Griffons fuck off lightning. Also the fight that spawns right after Griffon counts for your overall rank so you have to do it. The 3 bugs likewise should be splatted since you can farm style on them and end that fight with over 7k.

The fight with all 3 is a bit of a clusterfuc, however. Since nightmare refuses to stay there like a good boy and let you farm him.

Isn't it way too big of a waste of DT to actually ride on top of nightmare and try to fire the laser? And the boss with all his teleporting all over the place its pretty hard to stay near him/land anything on him.

Anyone else hate how your style points tank if you prefer using two weapons with Dante? You can mash to SSS by just mindlessly weappn switching with all 4 guns/swords and get 5-6k points easily but with 2 the max I get is like 4k even when I hit SSS.

Yeah I think they went a little too hard on the nostalgia. The game really needed a secondary antagonist like 3 had with Arkham to feel complete in terms of story. Part of the reason 3’s story worked is because they had Arkham to contend with as well as their own feud, 5 lacks that completely in its homage to 3 so it falls flat. I honestly think Urizen should have been his own character, V being Vergil is still fine but the game was really missing a consistent threat and source of conflict in the last act, it sort of just dissipates and all of a sudden Vergil is back and it doesn’t work as well as 3 because Vergil in 3 was only so good because of all the other characters he had to interact with.

I still like Vergil plenty, in fact I love all the DMC cast except Trish we all know where she belongs it's just that DMC5 managed to both overdo it and under-deliver at the same time imo. And I've come to really love Nero in everything from his design, to his weapon set, to his character since he's allowed to be one now that Kyrie's not around

The Dante vs Vergil theme falls so flat for me because in DMC3, the battle themes actually represented the brothers. The choir and classical music represented Vergil, the shredding industrial metal guitars represented Dante, and the two types of music battled for supremacy in the theme itself to really sell the battle taking place. The new theme is just some token guitar riffs because someone thought Vergil = guitar and they still get drowned out by electronic synths that sound completely devoid of impact imo.

Okay. I'll post the scattered thoughts across multiple posts though.

First off, there's no jumbled timeline. The missions happen in chronological order and we'll go back to the usual DMC stuff where everything happens in one day. No need for a month gap. There can still be flashback cutscenes though to flesh out stuff like when V meets Dante and Nero.

V is now Mundus' child, like everyone thought he would be initially. Not a rape baby or anything like that, but magnanimous Mundus with his beautiful god-like presentation would have no problem banging a religious woman or a witch who loves demons. Mundus wanted to create a half demon just like Sparda after seeing the power the two children had after all his assassination attempts on them failed. V was very young when Dante defeated Mundus. He does kind of hate Dante because Dante's existence is the impetus for V's own cursed existence, son of a megalomaniacal demon king whom V still feels a strange kinship toward, and Dante basically destroyed him.

Urizen is just Vergil. There are some journal entries, the Fury one especially, that talks about how demons are affected and can change based on their desires. Due to his constant powerlusting and single-minded fixation on beating Dante, Vergil has become the twisted entity that is Urizen.

Mundus is in the story now, but with greatly diminished powers and Malphas is his main envoy. Hell, Malphas can actually be V's mother transformed into a full on demon after sacrificing the rest of her family like Arkham in DMC3; V managed to escape. V would really hate what his family has become and this would also explain why he explicitly hides from Malphas all the time in the game.

I'm sorry, that was harsh. Vergilautists are in a leauge of their own when it comes to autism and reality-denial.

Start the story with Nero getting his arm ripped off. Shortly after, V shows up and there's some exposition about what's going on. Pretty much the speech he gives to Dante about the job. Nero will be dismissive because he feels shitty after getting his arm ripped off, feels a little helpless, and there can't possibly be an enemy that Dante can't handle. We move the line here about Urizen being the one who took Nero's arm so that he gets motivated with some revenge. I would have also done something like have him sitting in his kitchen with Kyrie, nursing his arm stub. Have Nero throw her a look before setting off to really cement that Vergil parallel where Nero starts to talk about needing power to protect the things that are important to him. Nero's kitchen can also be used for those goofy post-game vignettes of the characters sitting around. You know, no one-off assets.

The prologue happens as it is in the game, more or less. I'd probably retool it just a bit though so that Nero and V get thrown out of the tree and have to retreat rather than the way they just bust out and walk away as people are getting murdered right behind them. Could probably leave it the same though.

Instead of a month passing though, it's just a few hours as they regroup in Nico's van just outside the city. Nico, V, and Nero spitball about Urizen and what may have happened to Dante and how they can't believe there's someone who could take him. Nico unveils her Devil Breaker prototypes and gives Overture to Nero. Nico and Nero talk about their family a little bit. V is cagey and doesn't say much about his. Some kind of affirmation that Nero is going to back and fight Urizen.

Cue the opening with the van and killing demons in slow motion, but now V is also in the back of the van, you can see him through the back window, looking really bored while using his cane to basically pin himself in his seat as the van rolls around.

I had to do a no damage run on 18 to get the S for SoS, but from what I saw in someone elses video you can get enough style from the optional fights in DMD.

Swapping styles on the fly is the end goal but at first you should just focus on getting each one down before you start trying to swap constantly. Keep in mind that this is Dante’s 5th game and he’s got nearly 2 decades of mechanical refinement and additions to him so he’s gonna be pretty overwhelming at first compared to Nero and V who have had 1 and 0 games prior to 5. Trickster is for avoiding attacks and closing the gap between you and an enemy quickly, Swordmaster is to expand your melee moveset, Gunslinger is to expand your ranged moveset and Royalguard is for blocking and charging up a gauge that’ll let you do counters for big damage. Just pick one to focus on first and level it up, then once you’re comfortable with it pick another one and so on. Once you’re comfortable with how all 4 work you can start switching during combat and mixing stuff up. You can clear higher difficulties without getting too crazy with style switching so don’t feel too bad if it takes a while to get the hang of, the amount of stuff Dante can do is still overwhelming to me and I’ve been playing these games for years.

I don't want to go through every single mission and outline how they would be changed, but they should push the cooperation between the characters. I'd also give Lady and Trish more to do. For instance, Lady isn't unconscious for like 6 missions; she's just unconscious for like one. Hell, instead of having V cause Gilgamesh to fall over at one point during the fight, have Lady show up with Spiral off in the distance, wearing the janitor-looking onesie she gets, and shoots out the legs from under Gilgamesh.

Lady and Trish can do this sort of thing throughout the levels and within the tree--just show up to basically destroy some out of range blood clot so the player can progress, say something sassy, and then go off out of the level. This way, DLC for Lady and Trish could easily have been easily inserted into the game as they were off doing their own thing that involved fighting demons, but I guess we might get a Trish/Lady DLC that isn't in the demon tree and has its own story. It'd be nice, but I won't get my hopes up.

I'd also shuffle it around a bit so that Dante and Vergil's childhood home is actually on the way to the Qliphoth. Nero and V can actually go past it, V is the one who points it out. V gives Nero a little history lesson about Sparda, or starts to and Nero says that he knows it by heart given his Fortuna upbringing, and then V points at the burnt picture and says something like, "Ah, so you're familiar with the part where Sparda had two sons then." Nero stares at the remains of it and then wanders aloud about what Dante's twin brother would be like. V can be coy or snarky about it. Both V and Nero can find Dante around this time with Sparda. Dante gets like two levels of his own where he tells the group he wants to shake the rust off, so he'll cut a path ahead. This is where he finds Trish. Cue V looking coldly at her and saying something like, "So this is the demon Mundus created..." to build up some tension.

Then you get one level where you can choose to play as any of the 3 characters as you move through the tree, easy separation points are the blood tubes as they kind of criss cross their paths throughout the tree. Can even make it kind of a race between the five characters. Everyone meets up outside Urizen's chamber because they realize that they got the beat down after trying to take him one at a time, so they're all 5 going to hit him at once. Cue a big bossfight that can be multiplayer where Dante, Nero, V, Lady, and Trish all fight Urizen together and overpower him. Some cheesy speech about how power doesn't have to be a solo effort when Urizen does his "B-BAKANA!" moment, but he Snide Snidelys away as the tree finishes absorbing the blood.

I'll probably just greentext the rest of the story instead of writing out longform scene notes because character limits are a bitch.

First thing to learn is swordmaster and some basic utilities of what all 4 of your devil arms can do, sword for basics, cavaliere for crowd control, balrog for igniting the flame then using real impact, revolver on cerberus for parries, etc. and get used to switching to the weapon you want. Then you will want to eventually learn to switch to trickster to air trick to the enemy and quickly switch back to swordmaster. If you can master those you will be well on your way to being able to figuring out the rest yourself

V is really popular and a lot of his fans wish he were his own character and this triggers Vergilautists/fujos.

It only counts fights you actually participate in. So on DH or SoS, you are likely to lose average style if you engage in fighting a couple lone empusas. But on DMD those red empusas and other DT enemies are quite tanky and you can raise your average by a few hundred points.

One correction to my post I make it sound like the red empusa are only worth fighting on DMD, but on SoS what I did was there are those steps up to where the 3 red empusa spawn, and there are 2 regular empusa on the way up. I did balrog -> jab until ignited -> real impact on the first one then sword combo the second one into dance macabre to build up some style rank, then jumped up and fight the 3 red empusa you can get SSS and some decent style. It was raising my average style by about 300-400 when I did that. The thing that would screw me over was I sucked at the final fight but its definitely doable if you can get some decent SSS rank going in the final fight.
