Well one argument for California and the surrounding region is that back in the day it was a state where you felt like anything is possible, from mundane things like rape and murder to aliens, UFOs or a hidden cabal of vampires.
It's both super connected to the international stage of the world because so many rich and influential people come and go, but it's also its own microcosm of American culture, with the Hollywood Hills being pretty much their own separate universe isolated from the world and Las Vegas nearby.

Europe doesn't really have an equivalent. I think whatever location they choose, they should try to map it as close to the real life as possible. It's great when games build on existing places and add to the mythology of the place.

I think Las Vegas/LA and New Orleans would be better choices for the game setting.

The Wyrm, now unable to destroy and maintain the balance started instead to cause corruption so you ended up with chemicals that cause cancer, radiation poisoning etc.

The problem is the Wyrm has grown out of control in its role and is now determined to end the world itself. And a big part of Werewolf's setting is the end IS coming and no one can stop it, the werewolves just want to go out in one glorious last battle that has the slightest chance of defeating the Wyrm.

The World of Darkness covers the entire globe.

Fucking cali isn't even that important in the original setting.

Almost certainly won't be a remake. Activision still own the rights to VtM:Bloodlines, so the general consensus is that it'll either be a sequel or another game set in the OWoD IP.
