I can’t believe they actually made a yame completely devoid of game design. This is the least stimulating rpg I have ever played in my life, it literally holds your hand, has no depth or mechanics to it, and stats literally do not matter gear progression is a literal case of it gets bigger.

tataru a shit

Yoshi genuinely doesn't want it to be an MMO.

Still better than Anthem.
Somehow.

Just got back into FFXI after being away for 13 years and HOLY FUCK am I hooked like a crack head. The trust system is everything I ever wanted from the original game.

Imagine having a buff ability that only affects one of your abilities. Just imagine being such a mentally stimulating experience.

The only thing I don’t like about the trust system is that it makes party play pointless. Trusts don’t nerf exp, so you get less exp from partying with other people than you do using trusts. Not a fan of ilvl either but at least its not as bad as it is in ffxiv

Dragon Quest?
It usually makes for a better system.

Is it just me, or has MrHappy acting very desperate lately?

>makes for a better system
Fucking how? The entire point of having buffs is to make them synergize with various abilities. Please never make a videogame

pretty much nothing to discuss or talk about outside of what's said at a fanfest and since the info is really scarce there for the most part content creation during the end of the expansion must be shit

Are you stupid or something? In most games, skills that give you a ton of buffs at once simplify the fights in comparison to multiple individual buffs.

Don't forget that the way the game handles hit detection is possibly the worst out of any other game in the business. In most games if an explosion goes off and you're in it, you got hit. If you're not in it, you didn't get hit. In FFXIV if an explosion goes off, and you were where it exploded ~2 seconds ago, you got hit. The worst part is they synch outgoing damage to line up with the animation, but they don't check position relative to the animation at all. Yes, it's easy to play around, but this shit is 100% unaccetable for a modern MMO. It's not even like your current position is just lagged out either, since your corpse will be where you were, both to you and everyone else. When the center of a room blows up w/ no knockback and you can die leaving your corpse at a far wall, there's an inherent problem in how the game is determining if you've been hit.

what the HECK is his problem

Attached: ffxiv_01032019_221539.png (1920x1080, 2.3M)

Read the cast bar and not the animation you god damn retard

But I liked how most of the time you can play it as a single player MMO

>Yes, it's easy to play around, but this shit is 100% unaccetable for a modern MMO.
Read the post maybe?

git gud

Learn to play the game maybe?

>Yes, it's easy to play around
Read the post maybe?

What vision?

When the cast ends and when the danger zone indicator vanishes, the game decides if you're being hit or not. Get better reflexes.

Reading the cast bar isn't 'playing around' any kind of flaw in the design. Reading the cast bar is the intended way to play. It is the design. Stop being a stupid faggot.

In other words it has to be as simple as possible for a brain dead retard like you instead of having a bunch of abilities and unique buffs that synergize with each other to make it more engaging. Don’t give me the its fast paced excuse either because even fucking pso2 is more engaging and faster than this game.

Man I miss XI. Might see if the private servers are still decent.

I agree. To put it simple, FFXIV is only worth for the good endgame fights through and through. Presentation is there, fun mechanics in general, etc. As an MMO though? Its kinda pathetic, might as well just be an lobby game at this point, it would save resources to make even more fun fights.

Read it again
>Yes, it's easy to play around
Why should a modern game decide if you've been hit and if you're dead or not, then wait long enough for you to take actions for the animation to go off and then kill you. There's no need for the animation to be disjuncted from when it decides to hit you by as long as it is. Yes, you can play around it by the cast bar. No one is saying it's difficult. I'm saying it's shit design.

It is unironically somehow worse than GunZ: The Duel's netcode, while not even being a netcode issue because it's intentional.

the blizzdrones sure are shaken by the fact that wow doesn't have shit going for them anymore besides alliedraces.

Attached: f60.jpg (500x340, 42K)

It's the intended way to play. Very rarely it's super disjointed, like with choco meteor, but it's fine the rest of the time.

>Why should a modern game decide if you've been hit and if you're dead or not, then wait long enough for you to take actions for the animation to go off and then kill you.

Just move out of the AOE. Just move. Literally just move before the bar ends.

The flaw is the design itself. Hit detection/damage shouldn't be desynched from the animation and when you actually receive the damage by over two seconds.

>When the cast ends and when the danger zone indicator vanishes, the game decides if you're being hit or not. Get better reflexes.
>when the danger zone indicator vanishes
Are you retarded? Because trusting the danger zone indicator is how you get hit too. It's a seperate element entirely from the cast bar finishing and the damage going out.

Just have sex. Have sex. Please just have sex.

We're talking about completely different things at this point, dipshit. Dragon Quest is a game with a ton of different one-function buffs. I was arguing that this is usually better than a buff that boosts all attributes because you have to choose which buffs best synnergize with your strategy and current situation.

Yes, you can play around it. No one is saying it's hard. It's just shitty design.

Literally wants to watch the world burn.

>no arguments

Why are WoW players leaving in droves to play the superior MMORPG?

this youtube video and reddit says so it must be true

Attached: wowfugees.jpg (1280x720, 232K)

*sip* and that's the tea sis

I still can't believe that MMO's are now a dead genre.

If they made fates worth doing as a sufficient alternative to grinding outside of dungeons and HoH/PotD, I guarantee the maps would be way more alive. It's not a perfect solution but it would help, I don't even know why they're in the game right now. I have not once seen another person doing fates for actual months.

>Why are WoW players leaving in droves to play the superior MMORPG?
Because WoW killed itself with all the "cookie cutter" shit. Talents used to have diversity in them then it became Each talent tree has only 1 way to play. Did away with being unique. While other games allowed for that in other forms.

Fates worked fine in ARR's smaller zones. When your DPS queue was long, you went to farm fates for EXP.

I can't think of a single thing that isn't disjointed. Maybe tank busters? You can cast through OS9S Blaze Orbs as long as you walk into some of them while their line is still up since it's irrelevant to when it decides if they hit you. You have to be looking at the tornado as a DPS long before it pushes you back or it won't clear the debuff properly. OS10S Hotwings is disjointed pretty heavily, as are the in/out spins. Spin spin in particular decides if it hits you long before the actual animation. w/o sprint you can make it to the edge of the arena before the damage goes out and kills you.

King's honor, friend.

That's what happens when you try to appeal to people who don't like the genre. MMOs are fucking dead because they're so desperately trying to bring in people who don't want to play fucking MMOs.

yea I know, I saw loads of people farming fates back in ARR. Why'd that change though? Is it really because of the size of the zones?

They exist so at the start of an expansion when the servers are overloaded and nobody can queue for instances people can level up through fates and pretend they're getting their money's worth

I've been hit by AoEs that I've been out of for 2 whole seconds because the server tick rate is 3 seconds. Cast bars don't matter, the tick rate is what matters.

idk, I farm fates for exp and seals and level pretty quickly

Because WoW shot itself in the foot so hard, so many times, that even the die-hard for-lifers are jumping ship. XIV isn't a great MMO, it's just the closest thing to WoW that isn't WoW. Rift was a much better WoW-clone MMO that was mismanaged into the ground, to name one superior MMO.

They changed the way they work. They now scale exp based on the amount of people that did it previously. They're not worth doing unless there's a giant zerg doing them, but because they're worthless before the zerg no one does them. The zerg builds naturally over time if people are incentivized to do them in the first place. Without their being smaller groups starting them it never gets a chance to form.

The cast bar is the only thing that matters, not that that means anything when there are aoes that don't have cast bars. You just have to be out of them as early as possible. If the bosses weren't on a pre-scripted rotation the game would be near-unplayable.

Honestly, I get the feeling the majority of accounts left active on WoW are either people so invested in the game after years of play that nothing short of cutting them cold turkey for years will get them to stop playing, countless Chinese/Korean gold farm bots, and newfags trying out the free trial. And when people eventually quit WoW Classic either due to getting bored, private servers offering more, or autistic screeching when they inevitably bring in later content, all those people are going to go somewhere else to get their MMO autism fix.

Whether it's FF11, FF14 or something else I dunno, but it's like the old saying goes: The only thing that can truly kill WoW, is WoW itself.

Honestly, I truly would love to play FF11 again if there was a public or private server that was active. But then I remember the PSTD-inducing suffering that was downloading/installing all the data/files/ect. for the game via PlayOnline, before I stop wanting it.

The super invested die hards are starting to jump ship. Another expansion like BfA and it's probably dead, 'specially with how Blizzard is doing in pretty much every other title they were backing. Classic is a meme. 99% of the people that play it will quit in the 30s, maybe 40s. They'll play it for a month or so, get bored, and move on. Bliz is also left with no good option regarding raids. Either leave them at 40 and make them a nightmare to organize (now-a-days even getting 8 people for XIV is a pain in the ass), or reduce them down to 10~25 or use their new scaling thing and invoke the rage of a thousand autists for it not being vanilla.

Asura is still active on official. The biggest nightmare if you're trying to log in with an old account is figuring out which version of the squeenix account system you last used. It's a nightmare to get it attached to the most recent ones. Downloading is easy enough, it'll just take you a full night.

They level off pretty heavily at endgame, though. sack of shit apururu can't stay out of death or maintain MP worth shit

What? That's the whole reason people use Apururu. She never runs out of MP while being a strong healer. She self sustains off of her regain+Nott bullshit. She also has the ranged AI that keeps her away from monsters...

It was part of the BLUfever leaks and BLUfever is the only reliable leaker.

I'm working on getting all jobs to 70 (except BLU cause fuck that meme class), after NIN I only got WHM, AST, and RDM and then I'm going to start on Crafting and Gathering. Are there any decent guides out there for DoH/DoL? I know I should level them together in increments of five cause they all need each other but which should I start with? For reference, I already have CUL to 37 from eons ago and I have BSM to 70 but other than that, they're all at 1.

>That's what happens when you try to appeal to people who don't like the genre. MMOs are fucking dead because they're so desperately trying to bring in people who don't want to play fucking MMOs.
They killed WoW by a thousand cuts at least at the start it was time itself that held you back from progress
>Introduce arena around for BC
Balancing leads to nerfs not buffs. Leads to a lot of reworks on talents removing people with specialized builds that do work
>Introduce muh hard core raids in WotLK
They can't decide if they want 40 mans or 25 mans or 10 mans to be the one with difficulty
>Introduce catalcyms daily - weekly lockouts that are mandatory for progression
Enjoy not having fun cause the other shit mentioned above still going on
>Introduce more nerfs, lock outs, and everything being put behind ilvls
Literally no reason to bother and people are leaving.
The demand for vanilla wow isn't because of this or that it's a demand for doing away with all the crappy decisions that plague the franchise but no one wants to admit because many of this players want to be deemed as "normal" and not obsessed lunatics with no life and they prefer saying "I just grew up" as they lie to themselves and watch other people stream while the actual gamers just migrated elsewhere. Be it FFXIV, Tera, Star Wars, and the other "big MMO". Only reason why FFXIV keeps being mentioned cause they can make promises and deliver on them while not having to resort to nerfs.

mystery nigga's not doing too good...

Well, yes, trusts aren't meant to carry 135 content. Name a healer that manages their MP better than Apururu? 'cause it doesn't matter if it's Sarama or not, Apururu is still one of the better, if not the best, healing trusts when it comes to sustaining her MP pool over long periods of time. I think the only thing that comes close is the other Unity Leader that people like to use, but fuck if I can remember its name.

Also Sarama can be solo'd with the right setup, no need to be dependant on your trusts

Do people actually get paid by Blizzard to make threads like these?
It's kinda weird how 99% of all XIV threads are just people who play the game discussing it and memeing about it, and then every once in a while you get a thread like this where people with only very basic knowledge of the game start shitting on it viciously and relentlessly, with nothing but almost blind negativity. Which also coincides with Blizzard's future big WoW release coming out at the same time as Shadowbringers to compete with it, or doing a "free" weekend at the exact same time as XIV's big fanfest.
I mean, it really makes you think...

reddit.com/r/ffxiv/wiki/pax_2015_interview
RPGamer: What was the inspiration for the creation of the new Astrologian class?

Yoshida: With the Astrologian there were actually many different ideas that were pitched to even name the job. One of the more unique ones was “item wielder” (Editor’s note: Foxclonn began digging in his phone to try and find an English equivalent for their original job concept name). In the end we considered the lore and the fact we’re going into Ishguard. The area has a very prominent Astrologian presence and they see the movement of the stars to gauge where the dragons are as well seeing the future by reading the stars. Just like there is an observatory in the Coerthas areas Astrologians were a prominent element that already existed in the realm. Another unique element and ideas in terms of a healer there was actually an idea that was pitched: “Could we have a healer that wields firearms?” (Editor’s note: They found the word at this point to be Chemist and Yoshida makes a throwing motion to mimic healing by throwing potions) So going back to the concept of coming up with Astrologian and of course there was talk of “Can they hold a gun” but in the end we decided using the cards was a cool idea and considering the culture of the Ishguard area where they read the stars that blended in very well. It is a nostalgic concept as well. If you are a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics you may recognize the Astrologian as well. So that’s why we've decided on that healer roll with the cards. A lot of debate went on. A lot of considerations were made. Definitely it’s a very cool healer type role so we hope that you give it a try as well.

damn near anything can be solo'd with the right setup and enough gear
but I sure as shit wasn't set up to solo it

This thread has people shitting on both. Most of the people shitting on the game don't bother in positive threads because fanboys vigorously defend the worst of design decisions. Just look at the replies to

his collar isn't red, so why would that also be hair? it's just color distortion. I do believe it is cat boy but this is not really evidence..

>Remain in AoE when cast bar goes off
>Get hit
WOWWWWWWWWW!

That's what I meant by people with only very basic knowledge of the game. You can't have played past the free trial if you think the damage being tied to the very clearly defined telegraphs on the floor and cast bars is a problem.

You probably think I mean BLU youtube.com/watch?v=O3oFxmKS4U0 PUP solo gear requirements aren't too bad, but then you'd have invested into PUP. I love PUP, Squeenix generally doesn't... but it has been getting a little over the last few years.

Blizzard must be really scared of FFXIV if they time their free play weekend just at the same time a big FFXIV is happening and they're also timing Classic WoW and next retail WoW patch for a Summer release just as Shadowbringers.

What are the chances that they'll surprise us with a FF 14 classic in the fanfest? There seems to be a growing demand for it

youtu.be/unpWwn00mJs

>There seems to be a growing demand for it

Why are you lying?

Nope. Best we can hope for is someone leaks the server code so private emulation can accelerate.

The private servers have a full download now that bypasses PlayOnline.

Nasomi is the biggest private server, Eden is the most era-correct.

Unlikely, the client and server for 1.0 has way too many problems for them to just put up a server. ARR happened not just due to design problems, the client had a shitton of technical problems too. Selling your inventory after a romp around one of the not-instanced dungeons generally took 2-3x longer than the inventory itself due to the ui lag you'd get at every selection. Select item -> hit enter -> wait 5 seconds -> enter amount to sell -> hit enter -> wait 5 seconds -> press yes to confirm -> wait 5 seconds. repeat ad nauseum.

After he got btfo by blufever he's been pretty desperate since a dozen 'speculation' videos he could have made just don't need to exist so he has to come up with something else.

Yoshida literally said last year on the E3 letter livestream that a "Classic" version of FFXIV is never happening because they don't use Crystal Tools Engine anymore and the old servers they used for 1.0 now power the Lodestone and Mogstation.

>There seems to be a growing demand for it

Attached: 1371010500280.gif (156x216, 1.07M)

I played a bit in the last few weeks of 1.0. You'd find 2-3 major issues a day, all of them were met with the response "they'll be fixxed in 2.0". ARR's client and server were recoded from the ground up to fix the plethora of shit wrong with 1.0.

Yeah, the lively of the world is indeed a problem. But not only that, take a look at the whole leveling experience for example. Theres just no purpose, its streamlined and easy as eating cake, as well as other problemas that just make the whole experience mostly unfun, and it feels like a chore of a timewaste until you reach the endgame. I mean, i know its supposed to be a "theme park" MMORPG where the fun only starts at the endgame but, why does this kind of subgenre even exists? It clashes so much which the design and concept of what an MMORPG is supposed to be that its just ironic.

>wow doesn't have shit going for them anymore besides alliedraces.
If this shit is the best WoW has going for it right now Blizz better pray that SE has some monumental fuckup with Shadowbringers.

Attached: frosting mage.png (962x1074, 601K)

/y/ - yideo yames

They know it feels like a chore, that's why they put in the $50 of skips instead of actually fixxing it. It's only going to get worse with each expansion, and they've an incentive to not fix it.

And even then others like Meoni are like a day faster than him.

I still don't get why they added fat people.

People have been asking for years for skinnier and/or non-muscled up humans and they add fatsos.

What were they thinking!?

I prefer his raid guides for a basic understanding. If you speed his videos up to 2x speed it's like any other video on 1.25x.

SWTOR was a literal WoW clone down to the abilities being copied straight from Wrath era WoW. Ironically, that game hasn't had the same kind of overhauls that WoW has so its still that early 2010s WoW-clone gameplay.

Which just makes me sad because i know this is the truth. MMORPGS are simple the worst genre at the moment, not a single one is really worth your money completely, even though i play FFXIV time to time for just the endgame fights.

desu i quit wow in cataclysm and play ffxiv instead because it reminds me of tbc/wotlk era wow with mechanics and stuff.

This thread is reminding me of the plethora of MMOs that came out with so much potential but were run into the ground solely because their launch numbers weren't on par with WotLK WoW numbers.

I get not wanting to release a product you'd be ashamed of but 1. The original 1.0 was never his to begin with and 2. As long as he snubs his nose to the idea of a classic server he's gonna get idiots during every content lull saying how much better it was over his vision.

Not even 2 days left.

>MMOs that came out with so much potential but were run into the ground solely because their launch numbers weren't on par with WotLK WoW numbers.
it's mostly because of their business structure. MMOs that go F2P have major budget issues and have to downscale development or go full jew with cash shop doing P2W or 90% of the actual in-game unlockables are behind it in order to make ends meet. MMOs that are B2P have a similar issue where once the box sales dry up then they have to jew hard with cash shop or scale back patch development significantly.

This article is a good read on why FFXIV sub fee works while F2P and B2P sucks.

>never runs out of MP
haha yeah thanks for the cure V when i lost 300 hp haha...

An interesting choice by Blizzard.

Attached: ffxiv vs wow races.jpg (786x876, 93K)

>FFXIV still P2P when it claims that only guaranteed revenue is cash shop
>SB has gone overload with Cash Shop additions
>EU servers claimed to be made with said funds and still shit the bed every other week

Attached: FFXIV_Cash_Shop.jpg (5694x2214, 3.87M)

I know they're desperate.
Even without blizz publishing sub numbers we know the game is at a record low number of subs, and wow is their cash making baby so that's not good.

One of the idiotic defenses I often see is "well it still has millions of players who cares if its lost seven million subs derp derp".
Having maybe three million players (it might not even have that many, some people even estimate below two million) may still be well more than ffxiv, but that's still not good for wow.
Because it could have ten million subs, and having maybe three million instead of ten is not a profit, all those people not spending 15$ a month becomes an over billion dollar loss after a year.

Most of them started P2P, I'm saying when their sub numbers weren't WoW-levels their publishers went into panic-maximize-short-term-profits mode, and mismanaged them into the ground. 'though that may have been lost in the final version of the post.

Oh yeah it's still trash in most other aspects I just think its funny that such a bad game has that old gameplay copied almost to a T and it was one of the big criticisms at the time. Now it could be seen as a positive.

consumers and the market have shown time and time again that they're okay with cosmetic cash shops, but draw the line if those cash shops give you an advantage in raids or pvp.

You also can't name 1 MMO today that doesn't have a cash shop. Even if the developers are against it, their publisher forces them into it because they must cater to the shareholders that invest in the company.

Currently on Coeurl, which server should I transfer to if I want normal people and no RP trannies

What if it's a new job like Pictomancer or Chemist or Spellblade?

You say that like XIV doesnt have even less choice. Theres literally no customization for your jobs in the game.

They start off P2P but their subs drop so low that it becomes unviable to support their game. FFXIV and WoW can maintain a sub fee and consistent value because they are backed by powerful brand names and they have the money already to take a couple of blows if losses happen. MMO makers that aren't AAA tier like Square Enix or Blizzard don't have this luxury. If some small time company comes out with a MMO and they don't meet shareholder demands they are forced into panic mode or else their investment money gets cut.

>You also can't name 1 MMO today that doesn't have a cash shop
I was going to say XI, but you can purchase additional storage. Damn. I'm genuinely sad that I can't think of a single one.

Cash Shop would have been find if it actually increased content production and allowed them to finally fix their "Server Limitations" but as it stands Stormblood has been more of the same with no visible evidence that points to the Devs actually taking the time to fix the issues that bring about these limitations. Not like they would as it lets them claim limitations that can only be workaround with premium services such as the app and retainers

That's a classic tactic from Blizz. Over the years tons of MMOs had big events or launches or whatever and Blizz always had a new patch or some new reveal at the same time to keep attention on themselves and way from the competition.

I fully expect 8.2 to come within a week or so of the July 2nd release of Shadowbringers just because that's their MO.

That tactic of theirs used to work quite well and they could stonewall most of the competition that way. I don't think its going to be very effective this time though. BFA is such a legendary shitshow that they can't throw their weight around as much as they used to.

It is the future, for all games, to have a monetization model in addition to simply selling the game.

I personally miss having random side-things to do in games to work towards useless bullshit like mounts. As someone who returned to XIV recently without really paying attention to it since the start of ARR I saw the new cat mount was like "Oh cool, I wonder what you'll do to unlock it" only to learn that the answer to that was "pay $24".

>if it actually increased content production
they've been looking to hire more people on the ffxiv team forever now to do this according to their job wanted page, but apparently nobody wants to work for MMOs in Japan since it's an incredibly niche and very difficult area to work in.
>"Server Limitations"
when they say this they mean the software server code limitations, not the hardware. for example when people ask for a glamour log, it's possible to do but it would require a total rewrite of how their server database manages items. think of how many items are in FFXIV right now and how many lines of code must be edited to fit the new feature.

>expecting rewards outside of the cash shop or Eureka
>expecting content to last long now that the Relic is in Eureka
This is the future user. If the content fails they'll shove carrots after carrots in the next iteration to get you to play or sell it on the cash shop.

Shiw me your UCOB clear

Other companies competing with Blizzard do the same thing. Path of Exile almost had the perfect moment of irony when Blizz announced Diablo Immortal. GGG was expecting a Diablo 4 announcement, so they set up a super intricate expansion (that ended up having balancing issues, but still) that they announced a week after Blizzcon. It was called Betrayal, where you took down the Immortal syndicate. After enough people asked if the naming was intentionally a jab at Blizzard, the CEO eventually clarified that the voice acting was finalized a month before Blizzcon, and that interestingly enough the leagues name was down to "Betrayal" or "Immortal" and they were glad they went with Betrayal in the end. For extra sperg explanations: Betrayal was chosen because they were cycling out the old crafting masters, but rather than throwing them away they set it up so the masters betrayed the player and formed a syndicate of no-goodery for you to take down.

they've been actively improving the server infrastructure and unfucking their own netcode. should have been obvious when this is the 3rd time NA is receiving datacenter changes and we've come a long way from 2.x's insane mudra/firestarter lag and titan knocking off people that moved away from the indicator 2-3 seconds ago

XIV does have stuff like that but now its old since those kinds of updates tend to go to the shop.

Like when they first introduced new dances. They were the first dance emotes that looped and they put a small quest in each of the main cities to get them. Then they just started adding new dances and such to the gold saucer or from events like the moonfire faire. Now they just go to the store for $8 a pop.

The worst part is having that in-game trail to follow. You can see where they were and how their effort dropped off but was still a reward for an in-game activity to just being cash shop shit.

Too bad the game will always feel bad because it's not a netcode issue. It's an inherent intentional design flaw.

That's why it's so good.

>an inherent intentional design flaw
elaborate. this game has a 3sec tickrate for numbers that can easily be improved. also animation lag on skills is a client side thing, you can even edit it to 0 with cheat engine and get away with no lag on ogcds assuming your ping is not awful.

>for example when people ask for a glamour log, it's possible to do but it would require a total rewrite of how their server database manages items
Shit like that would definitely be a lot of work and not an easy ask of the dev team but given how many times they seem to run into this problem it might be a good investment to put that time and effort in.

The glamour log is going to be asked for forever unless they give the glamour dresser a retarded amount of space up from the 200 slots right now.

the biggest reason MCH is in the trash right now is because of netcode issues.

I wish the story and world was in a single player FF instead.

How hard is it to just have a masterlist with every piece of gear in the game that you can view anytime, and be able to glamour from so long as you obtained the item at least once? Wouldnt have to even touch the code for items at all

>titan knocking off people that moved away from the indicator 2-3 seconds ago
I had to learn the moveset by memory because when Titan was doing something it was already too late for me.

>The glamour log is going to be asked for forever unless they give the glamour dresser a retarded amount of space up from the 200 slots right now.
I don't consider myself a glamour whore.
But that dresser fills up surprisingly quick...

They've been actively working on it although it's not "TOP PRIORITY MUST DROP EVERYTHING TO FOCUS ON THIS 1 THING". That's how a lot of QoL works in MMOs, it's developed gradually. For reference, it took WoW about 10 years to implement a wardrobe feature because they've been slowly rebuilding their server code for a decade to accommodate the new Battle.net features.

My main misgiving with the glamour dresser is your inability to equip your plates outside of main cities.

So it's something Japan isn't affected with then.

apparently pretty hard. assuming SE managed to hire some Blizzard employees, they might get some insights from them to help with their code

I have a friend who asks me to play this because it's the "best story so far in FF"

Imagine playing an MMO for the story, first off. NOt even going to address everything else.

it affects them too. no matter what ping you have, the game has a slow tickrate. this murders mch.

It's a Final Fantasy game first, MMO second. If it was a MMO first then it would be a spinoff Final Fantasy game, not a Main Series title.

ahahahahaha

Who gives a fuck, really.

WoWfugees who expected to get into endgame immediately certainly care.

Monk has the same problems and it's frequently played. MCH sees no casual play because it's too hard to play and it sees no high level play because there is no optimal comp that includes it.

Clearly you since you're here whining and bitching about it.

>And it's too late to PF such an old fight.
It's extremely easy to PF savage this late, you just say how far you've gotten and "0 page, vets welcome" and it fills rapidly at prime times.

The players.
You'd know this if you actually played instead of dismissing it for being a wow clone while bitching about it not being a wow clone.

i read OP post, and i agree from my experience. i made a post about one of my annoying friends and his dumb opinion. doesn't mean i care about this shitshow.

i don't give a fuck about it being a wow clone, wow is garbage. lmao @ you buttblasted nerds.

He's not wrong though.

I know that feel bro, oh wait, no I don't since I'm still an inexperienced sprout. But when I do start raiding I'm sure it'll be easy getting a large crew together without issue. yep.

You don't have any experience, you haven't played the game.

dig deeper

>they've been actively improving the server infrastructure and unfucking their own netcode
They've been going for the cheapest options they can without ever touching the code. If they actually cared they would have dealt with the issues of the servers being on the West Coast and spaced them out more evenly for both coasts. Another issue is they're more than happy to ignore both EU and NA as long as they can as JP suffers little to none of these issues.
>NA is receiving datacenter changes
Changes because servers like Balmung dont want to spread out to other servers so they fuck with instances. All it is is to let people use instances from dead servers instead of rushing their current ones.

>Hasn't played the game
>Thinks he has any experience
Thanks for your input smoothbrain.

The game locks in if you've been hit or not synched with the cast bar of a skill (which not all skills have). Not synched with the animation, or when the damage goes out. There can be a 2-3 second delay between when the game decides you've been hit, and when the game gives you the damage from that hit. See: OS10S Spin Spin. It hits a medium sized circle in the center of the arena, you can be hit by it at the outer wall w/o sprint by walking out part way through the second spin is done.

They seriously need to make MCH more similar how Laguna and Prompto play, switching guns and having heavy explosions like grenades. Overheating and bullets are boring.

kek look at the filename

They've since improved the servers and it's still an issue. It's not the netcode, it's because the game decides you've been hit and actually hits you at two seperate, intentional, points. It's often the case that the game decides if its hit you or not before the animations even start. It's like this even with the lowest ping possible.

So are these going up on the cash shop this year?

Attached: White_Ravens_Icon.png (128x128, 29K)

Reminder that in terms of active characters
>Alphascape Savage World Clears - 6%
>People who can Access Hydatos - 11%
>BLUs at 50 -18%
Hydatos is probably closer to Savage clears given the trend for Eureka iterations, truly a disappointment for Casual content

Attached: Blue_Mage.png (678x317, 15K)

They turned Wojack into a boss?

>still no necromancer class
what the fuck square?

Attached: 03062204525.jpg (943x795, 262K)

Given the shittfest around them created a need for Yoshida to respond? No

Eureka could be fixed by just making ele level 17 unlock your mount. Period. Resetting to practically nothing at the start of the next zone feels like absolute shit. Kills any desire to progress further.

>can't unsee
thanks buddy.

Summoners are annoying enough, I don't want to have to see AOE markers past 9000 skeletons. And if you don't have 9000 skeletons what's the point of even being a necromancer?

Having the cast bar gives a defined clear direction on when and how to dodge, rather than relying on the visuals of unique animations that triggers at different points relative to the finish of the cast itself. There's nothing wrong with the indication as it stands, you're just being an autistic faggot.

deeper

You make no sense. Every enemy attack in this game is scripted. If you didn't move out of the area after the indicator fades then you get hit. If you didn't move when the enemy raises their claw with no cast time involved, you still get hit because the animation already ended before you got out of the hit zone. It's very predictable even with high ping which is what the director exactly means when he says the game is fine to play at "200ms". It's not a netcode issue for movement, it's a rtt issue.

Convert XIV into a single player game and it would actually be good.

It's a shitter trying to come up with excuses for being unable to get out of the glowing area of death.

It's unlikely because the title reward for soloing all of PotD is "The Necromancer" and that's so rare less than ten people have it, it would be a bad look to change something so exclusive.

Attached: 1551208927737.png (645x729, 105K)

A lot of features would be dumbed down or removed to accommodate for single player and AI.

It stole everything from WOW, so are you claiming that WOW is shit too? Because I agree with you. I still play it, but I know it can be shit.

>Hiring Blizzard

Not him but you really sound like an overzealous fanboy who will defend anything.
>I actually am interested in trying the game out but Jesus Christ

If you never talk then just leave, nobody will give a shit.

So why doesn't the animation line up with the cast bar ending? In what way would that be detrimental? If you saw it handled that way in other game you'd call the game dogshit. Imagine a beat-em-up. A bomb drops. a thing at the top fills up with "EXPLODE" where you are when the E fills determines if you get hit. The E fills, you move around, punch two guys, the bomb explodes on the other side of the screen and you die. This is how XIV works.

There goes that strawman again, post clearly says otherwise.

Wait until the 26th at least when there's a bit more content. Or wait til April 1st to be sure you get the FF15 crossover event as well.

>Leave an FC when I think nobody is on

You might be right, but it also has some good points, like a terrible attempt at copying GW2 dynamic events and the worst housing system I've ever seen in an MMO.

Well I do have tits but that's due to weight, not wanting to be a girl.

Nah I'm just a male Hyur who has gotten really fucking tired of you niggers derailing threads to show off your shitty character.

That wasn't my character though. You find it so hard to believe someone could think a fem roe looks nice. No different from the other au ra tranny players.
>I'm a male hyur
You're not fooling anyone.

>someone posts a roe and says they look good
It's like those facebook caps where someone posts a cute girl and the comments are filled with seething roasties.

Fuck off to /vg/ if you want people to shower your character with compliments.

Get over yourself.

People on Yea Forums don't like characterposting in general, even if you posted a miqo'te or au ra they'd tell you to fuck off. Only Lalafells will even muster a "cute" with many more still saying to fuck off.
I personally don't give a shit, and if anything characterposting once in a while helps makes these threads not stale as fuck with the regurgitation of "tranny tranny tranny" boogeyman shit all day.

Sorry for Yea Forums not being your hugbox.

There you go again, assuming I posted my character. Sorry to disappoint your, but I don't even play roe. I play lala, if you must know. I just take pics of toons that I think are good. Maybe I've even taking a pic of yours. Haha, just kidding. You probably play some diamond dozen cat or lizard.

Where did I say 1.0 was good? I didn't dumbass. I wish it would die. XIV shills are the worst. Some of my friends play it and when they get on their XIV bullshit train, they literally are NPCs spouting off about how great it is and how everyone should play it. It isn't. They dragged me into playing it. I should have listened to one of my friends (I hardly knew him at the time) and not play with them. The gameplay is brain dead stupid. All they cared about was sometimes playing, but mostly dressing up and taking pictures. A couple of people cared about the story. They got on to Balmung and I think the only reason they did was because since its so erp heavy, their tiny little FC is in the tops all the time because a couple of them are autistic spergs who literally play XIV raids all day.

>replying means you have autism!
So what about you user? Are you my autistic brother?

I'm responding to one person, you specifically, not spamming the thread after 2 people said femroes are shit. I joined in late after you long derailed to call you an autistic faggot. Because you're a disingenuous avatar fagging sperg, you can't even understand the difference.

Chaos.

Attached: rrg.jpg (500x497, 52K)

I feel like I'm one of the only people who doesn't use flying text. It's always so jarring when I see it in videos. It just clutters the screen so badly. The only uses I see for it is it makes it a bit easier to tell when you receive certain buffs or debuffs, and if you're a SCH it makes it easier to tell when your adlo crits so you can use deployment tactics. That's basically it. I don't need to know that I lost one form and gained the next one every time I use any weaponskill as MNK.

Attached: 1542703253299.png (500x562, 449K)

There's literally nothing wrong with replying to posters. You make it sound like I replied to a dozen different posters in the same post. Now who's being disingenuous, eh?
>avatar fagging
No, really. I don't play roe. I can't avatarfag with a character that's not even mine. You need to chill out. Dial back the 'tism.

cope

supporting the industry is fine, but you're not doing it with kiss anime or crunchy roll

I also turn off as much visual clutter as possible. I wish I could disable client-side alliance marker positions as well, they're a huge eyesore and no sane person should need them since they're almost always used to just mark cardinal positions that you can see on your minimap.

>tfw crystal taking all the population

>You make it sound like I replied to a dozen different posters in the same post
He accused you (rightly) of the exact opposite. You really can't read well.

FFXIV's popularity was a sign to me that the MMO genre just was not for me -- either anymore or perhaps ever. There was a time in my life where I thought it was the perfect video game genre because it was like transporting yourself into a video game in a way, but it seems whatever called me to the genre was not what calls the lowest common denominator, and so the genre became something very foreign to me.

My first 36 hours of XI was a single sitting; my first and only ~30 hours of XIV took two weeks. In XI, I was a level 18 RDM eager to get his subjob; in XIV, I was a level 20+ everything with zero goals. In XI, I had only met normal NPCs but had their names and quirks etched into my memory, like old man Degenhard who ate bone chips to stay youthful; in XIV, I met the most influential figures in the realm and felt nothing for them. In XI, I was a nobody in the story; in XIV, I was a hero of my nation, given a banquet in my honor, prophesied to be a great savior and given my own personal airship to teleport between the nations. In XI, I fully explored three zones and tasted six others; in XIV, I fully explored eleven zones and tasted seven more. In both games, I found the players to be about the same level of amicability, but in XI, I actually did stuff with them. In XI, I learned aggro and specific enemy attacks with my body; in XIV, I didn't learn that stuff at all because you just slaughter everything. In XI, I heard tales of the highly desirable Leaping Lizzy and saw a Tremor Ram through the trees as his footsteps shook our screens; in XIV, I saw big monsters in every zone just sitting around, no one seemed to care. In XI, I activated quests that left it up to me to figure out how to solve and could only wonder at their rewards; in XIV, if I got a quest I just did it and immediately forgot about it. In XI, I heard people talk about crafting, rare drops, sky, artifact armor, money; in XIV, I heard people say, "See ya guys when the next patch drops."

>spreading out inane responses in several different posts is better than just threading your bullshit in one post

holy fucking shit you somehow think being even more cancerous is the better thing to do. I'm stunned

Plenty of people will be transferring off to stay with statics, don't worry man. I say this as a Balmung player, you'll be fine.

I just don't ever feel the draw to keep subscribed. I'm a legacy player to boot, so I sub for a month, play it for like a week, do whatever new story shit is out there, then just stop logging in. It's turned into ERP garbage all the time, and the only people who take raiding as seriously as anyone in WoW are the worst kind of faggots who want it to be a full time job when there's literally nothing to do once you run your tome limit.

>He
C'mon now

Attached: 1257063753172.png (208x262, 85K)

I'm pretty used to it, and I do like it for buff information front and center sometimes. It does make a shitton of clutter for videos though.

I like the markers in the world just because I don't like taking my focus off of the fight to check my position relative to the minimap, and I don't really like having the minimap around but sometimes you need it. It's one of my main complaints against healers in MMO, you spend most of the time watching healthbars like a hawk rather than watching the fight. If I could heal as well with healthbars above character models, I'd do it.

The funnier thing will be all the people who willingly stay on Crystal and maintain their Balmung scapegoat memes.

>boy, I'm glad we got rid of all those damn erp'ers. now we can play the game in peace
>hey, where did everyone go?

>Implying that they play the game

I don't mean offense to you in particular, but MMO players say things like this and it's ridiculous: modern fighting games are far faster and also have crucial information spread 'far apart' in each corner of the screen and it is no issue at all to glance at it.

>none of these newfag dicks itt ever played star wars galaxies
-_-

They probably do more than you user. ERPers are addicted and love every facet of the game, from Eureka to raids to RP and lore. At least the one's I've met are.
I don't ERP in game myself, though, discord is more convenient.

I didn't, because I'm a long-time Final Fantasy fan and SWG was not on consoles. This is a Final Fantasy game and thus you should not be surprised by this.

>XIfags shitting up the thread again
Make your own thread for your dead game, you spergs.

That wont help, a while back they were making threads for their own game but they still came in here to go on and on and on about how fucking great XI is.

Like the other user said, this is most likely what we're getting. The boy bunny in of itself looks like his hair/fur creates a mane like appearance in of itself and given

How is easy is it to find someone to ERP in this game?

It's gonna be chemist so we can get gun classes in every archetype

no onoonnooo NO! We are getting the playable Dwarves known as Hrothgar. The hub will be a dwarf fortress with dwarf fortress housing. Dwarf bros ww@

But Yoshi doesn't like male bunnies in general, why would he be satisfied by just giving them a mane?

I hate to agree with you but you're 100% correct. I was around level 15 when I noticed armor progression is painfully linear.
Started going down the carpenter and weaver paths and there's fucking nothing worthwhile you can make that you can't just buy from NPC's, I was really hoping for exclusive items you can only get through a specific profession, does that come later?
I'm gonna keep going through it and advance to bard, right now I'm a level 21 archer.

It's fun exploring but so far no one has said anything and I was hoping it'd be more social (my world is Diabolos if that has anything to do with it). I would play World of Warcraft instead if my PC wasn't shit, main reason I went with FFXIV is cause of the praise it gets and that it's on console. At this point I'd only drop it if Phantasy Star Online 2 is announced for the West

Now that Wildstar is dead, I want SE to hire that game's housing devs and nuke the entire residential ward codebase from orbit.

Cry more retard.

My only major complaint with the genre, beyond somewhat disliking the chosen one thing and every minor encounter needing to be somewhat epic, was the fact that characters no longer develop independent to each other. XIV didn't have it, and post-WoW, most stuff strayed further and further from it. XI technically didn't have it either, but at least had a fairly in depth cross class system to make up for it.

For instance, I played a lot of Shadowbane way back when, and when you made a character, you had certain immutable traits chosen on character creation that would sometimes have a pretty big effect (Like heavy fire resistance baked in to your character to the point where fire spells were near worthless against you, to name one example), and the choices you made as you gained levels were permanent and divergent from just about everyone else. No two characters really played exactly the same, and the amount of variations of classes let you differ yourself from everyone else.

In XIV, if you play a warrior, you're identical to everyone else in function. There's no variation on skills between warriors, no real need to pick different stats to build your warrior, you're essentially a pawn piece on a chessboard easily replaced by any other identical piece. You don't bring anything unique to the table that other warriors might not have, all because encounter design demands that everyone have equal capability to do every piece of content that comes out. The issue with this philsophy is that for everyone to be able to do all encounters, everyone must have access to the same tools, and because hardcore raid groups would likely relevel characters from scratch just to complete the next tier of raids slightly better each patch, it was decide just to forego unique characters altogether.

Some players are legitimately mentally ill and unable to cope with any learning curve.

How long does it take to clear the main quest? Also is all the Monster Hunter shit gone? What about the Nier stuff I've heard about?

No we're not.

He didn't like male Viera because lore dictates they just cant happen. He didnt say he hates the aesthetic.

Doing your Guildhest challenge log gives you roughly 500k exp which is a nice break between dungeon grinding or HoH.

>>alliance finally defeats TG and goes on to beat Ultima and clear the raid (thank god she's a pushover though)
You mean thank god she's a two-part fight.

Here's how we quickly fix that
>force the tag "Viera_(Final_Fantasy_XIV)" on every booru

>discord tranny """"leaks""""

Yes he did he stated male bunnies are weird and that if they did viera they'd genderlock them and add in the big dick male only race.

A really long time, no you can still fight rathalos, and the next expansion's 24-man raid will be a Nier crossover.

God wished we got something like Elins and not Viera.

A while, the game is a more linear FF game at its core and the early parts are filled with fetch fun and running around
Monster Hunter event is permanent, Nier stuff won't be until September-November

This is my dad works at nintendo tier. The fact that he gave out his current workplace while not even a breath later he gives out insider info should be clue enough.

>what i worked on with XIV i can not say

He literally said male rabbits would be weird, I'm pretty sure verbatim. He also said in the event they added Viera, they would likely have a male only race to compensate. I wish I could find the fucking article.

Don't worry about it, if you're playing a Lalafell it'll happen often.

they can just use sexual dimorphism

Degenerates just seem to like molesting sprouts, what race are you?

It's just people fucking around, maybe they find you cute or endearing

You're a lalafell I can tell. Yes, it happens. Get used to it. Most people want to jack it to your potato cunny though

We already have miqote, though,

You guys serious? he called hrothgar a baracat race/lion race BEFORE the leaks about their manes were out, and guess the kirin osode AND emerald cloak before the patch dropped.

I remember being twelve

I'm just a miqo'te, actually.

We knew from Blufever it would be a lion race.

People were talking about how the second race is going to be lionlike since BLUfever changed his profile picture. Iconic XI gear are extremely safe guesses.

A 100 bust Midlander is like a C cup. Thats completely modest and normal.

He absolutely didn't, that "leak" come out after the code leak. And we knew about the manes from Blufever.

Explain the emerald cloak and kirin osode. Or getting absolute virtue right, explain fucking the gr'aha minion.

It means you chose a meme race.

>Midlander is like a C cup
lol. You have no idea what any cup size is bud.

No they didn't check the records, the discord leaks came out weeks before patch 4.5 even dropped.

Show me a single post of anyone guessing we'd return to crystal tower before 4.5.

Lions were known sinc Blufever's avatar change. We have two camps of thought with Baracats cause of this discord faggot and Lionhead Rabbits cause missing male bunnies. Leaked "Hrothgar" was from datamining. Post the other Discord Leaks that they claim to have originally made because if they're the ones that rode off Blufever's leaks and then also falsely claimed Haubergeon then they're not credible in the slightest.

You poor fool, you should've played a male highlander, elezen, or roe always wearing full armor if you actually wanted people to avoid you

What about the minion? It doesnt confirm hes a big important character in SHB. He was already moderately known enough to warrant getting one.

Cringe

But why now? Between the minion, the "mysterious" miqo'te on the poster, and crystal tower being relevant again in ShB, it all lines up perfectly well.

Just started playing again today, last time I played was 4.0. What should I be doing to gear up and catch up with the story?

>Got fucking HROTHGAR right
>Got crystal tower right
>Got gr'aha right with the minion leak

I really wish people would stop touting assumptions as fact before we have any solid proof of such things.

poetic

Thats absolutely not a Miqote. Dunno why people keep claiming it as such.

>Kirin Osode
Fair guess, once again if they are claiming they made the past discord leaks they also claimed many other items that didn't make it in.
>Absolute Virtue
Something many players guessed when they noticed the theme of XI shit coming back alongside the glamours. You had to either be retarded or only have touched XIV to not expect Absolute Virtue to be in there. Hell for the longest time there were people thinking the primal trapped was AV itself.

Either dungeons, 24 man raids, or 8 man raids if you want to catch up quick. Just get gear and move up to the next tier when you can.

Eureka exists for great gear, but it'll take quite a while to get anywhere.

Hrothgar is literally confirmed as a race of lionlike catman. That much is official and already in the game files. Whether or not they are 'bara' or gender locked isnt.

You're either baiting and suffer from face blindness because that's a Miqo'te face. Go into the character creator and look through the male faces, one of them is EXACTLY like the one on the poster alongside being the face G'raha uses in-game.

buy crafted gear or do dungeons to obtain dungeon gear -> do 8 or 24 man raids to get better gear -> do savage to get better gear than that -> spend excess tomes on gear or do some hunts for upgrades

The person who claimed haubergeon wasn't the same as the one who called baracats nigga. That's why he said that person got BLU wrong.

I don't see it, your zoomer circles don't help either.

The freedom of job/subjob combinations is kind of a myth, though. It's one of those things people say to sell you the idea of the game, but it's not true in practice. There's one major reason and several smaller reasons which crop up in all games. One of the smaller reasons is about how many of your skills you're actually capable of using at any given time. For example: would a Dark Knight benefit from the Hand-to-Hand skill he'd get from subbing Monk? The answer is: no, because whatever paltry bonus he'd get from it would pale in comparison to his native Great Sword and Scythe skills, and he can't benefit from both at the same time. So there goes a huge component of that job out the window. It's even more true in a game like FFXI where attack accuracy and damage exist on a function, so having half the accuracy you'd expect for your level doesn't mean you'll hit half as much, it means you won't hit at all; you need a certain amount to get on the curve. Also consider: does a Monk subbing Puppetmaster get more Hand-to-Hand skill? No, he doesn't, so some skills are additive while others cancel each other out, which means some job/subjob combinations are innately superior to others based on all these smaller facts alone.

However, there is a bigger hurdle at play here: the entire game (after level 10) revolves around prepared parties, and a party of specialists is better than a party of generalists. A White Mage might sub Paladin to help himself tank more damage, but if he's in a party with a dedicated tank, that tank is the only person who really needs to be good at tanking at all. He has specialized in tanking, so whatever tanking capabilities the White Mage has brought to the table are simply a waste. They probably invited the White Mage for his healing capabilities alone and that's all he'll end up contributing to the party, so a subjob that doesn't maximize his healing potential will be frowned upon.

I honestly think this is an issue with MMO design in general. I'll go from the context of WoW since my FFXI experience is limited, but in vanilla WoW, having a hybrid class tag along for a dungeon was a very useful thing for groups despite the lack of specialization because sometimes, you just need someone, anyone, who can handle a role in case of emergency. A druid or a paladin could quickly pop in as a tank on the occasion large groups became unwieldy for the MT or the MT died, either could stand in for a healer for a short while to give the group the extra edge they needed when the healer's manapool ran dry. Barkskin+Tranquility was strong no matter what you were as a druid for healing damage to the whole group for its duration, and that was something that no pure DPS class could bring to the table.

The issue with that design is that as player groups get better, specialists eclipse those classes completely because the things the specialists are able to do extra are never called into being. Encounter design also posits that same issue, as enrage timers get tighter and tighter, there's less room for party compositions that don't exist to be 100% optimal. And therein lies the need to start designing classes to fit a very specific role, with the entire toolset of the role available to them, leading to class homogenization and eventually encounter homogenization.

In the context of encounter design, class design and the removal of character choice makes sense, because encounters dictate the choices you make as a whole. If there were, for instance, an encounter in XI that forced party members to split and handle a DPS check no matter their class, then having a White Mage with a Monk subjob that isn't horrible at punching things would make more sense. It's because of encounters all being designed around the trinity that we don't see more emergent character designs come into being.

>SCH finally becoming an Extra Job in 5.0 so they can clean up that shitty Arcanist toolkit for SMN

If you buy Shadowbringers you're going to get all expansions, but only when Shadowbringers comes out. I don't want to buy stormblood 2 times so i'm going to wait

This is why I wish 1.0 had another year to be tuned to what it should have been. It was a free-flowing system where once you unlock a skill on any class, you could then slot it onto another class and build your own setup/hybrids.

Basically this. In an MMO almost all choice is illusory. There's always a correct way to approach the game, whether that way is intentionally baked-in by the developers or derived by the community from a large array of choices. Only real difference between those options is that if the developer puts in a huge amount of talent or build options without any intended design in mind, it just opens the game up to horrific imbalance when the players pick it apart.

You can try to create different types of content or scenarios to try and force different approaches, but this doesn't actually increase freedom, it just increases the amount of work each player has to put in to be "optimal" for any given encounter. You need to farm this type of gear for that dungeon, you can only do that boss with this build, etc.

The mistake people make is wanting MMOs to resemble single player RPGs. Games where every encounter or challenge is like a puzzle you have to solve to progress the story. You solve it and then move on, and once you've solved all challenges you put the game down and move on to the next one. Balance and optimization doesn't matter, it's fine to take any approach you want. MMOs are different because you are expected to run the same content repeatedly for months on end. Content is "solved" the first time it's cleared, and then every time after that is just farming. In that environment, optimization is the only means of progress, and besides that you are with other people, who are sensitive to having their time wasted by someone not playing "correctly".

People are attracted by the idea of a game that's total freedom in a persistent online world because it's like having a second fantasy life but the designs almost never work in practice, in the end they are games and people will try to play them as games and not as online fantasy simulators.

Well most people leave it on since they do content other than EX roulette

How does having billions of numbers covering the boss help you clear hard content?

I was in a Orbonne run a few hours ago, healer as usual. The first three bosses went by without any big issues, quite a few dps were running around like headless chickens getting hit by dumb shit but somehow everyone seemed to know what to do with mechanics that had the potential to wipe everyone.

Until we got to Ultima, that is. Today was the first time I have seen a wipe during the transition phase, pretty much the entirety of alliance B got killed by Hashmal's charge (and a hefty amount from the other two as well, making it infeasible to raise everyone) and that ended up being enough for us to fail killing Ruination in time (I was not even aware that it straight up kills everyone if sufficient dps is not met). After that we also had a wipe in the last 5% or so because nobody intercepted the angels swooping down.

>In an MMO almost all choice is illusory.
I agree, encounter design dictates the optimal solution, which dictates which classes and compositions are strongest. There's no real way to get around that.

>You can try to create different types of content or scenarios to try and force different approaches, but this doesn't actually increase freedom, it just increases the amount of work each player has to put in to be "optimal" for any given encounter. You need to farm this type of gear for that dungeon, you can only do that boss with this build, etc.
This is where I'd disagree though. If players were locked in to a character design by the time endgame content was on their todo list, players would design less around being optimal for specific encounters and more for handling content in general. Gone would be the design of tuning a class for the highest, most optimal DPS against a certain enemy because they'd have to use that same specialized build for other content where it wasn't as optimal. This would also carry over to future content, since it wouldn't be able to be predicted ahead of time, hardcore groups would (in theory) design their characters around general usefulness and utility since there would be no way to know when you might be called upon to do things outside of a specialization.

Of course, knowing the most hardcore of raiders, they'd likely keep dozens of alts on hand with a wide variety of designs and just pick the one most suited to the newest content released to improve their odds of getting a world first, so even that's not 100% effective at dissuading ultra-specialization and the trinity, which was one of the lines of thinking that led to dropping character building in the first place -- no one could figure out a way to get players to play something non-optimal in content that was static (As compared to PvP, where metas exist but evolve naturally over time), so it was decided just to ditch the choice for ease on the players.

would make far more sense on every possible level to cordon off smn into its own thing while arcanist becomes a healer desu, they've been teasing a mechanized staff for smn for ten levels now

>hardcore groups would (in theory) design their characters around general usefulness and utility since there would be no way to know when you might be called upon to do things outside of a specialization.
Not individually, they'd organise it across the entire group to make sure the group covers all bases and specialise after meeting those requirements.

Can't wait for you dipshits to be btfo Friday when they show the anticipated male viera. Not shotas or bars, but bishonen tall guys who are complete fujobait.

Classic FF14? For a game that's like 5-6 years old? Are you fucking kidding me? No one wants that shit but you retard.

>revolves around prepared parties, and a party of specialists is better than a party of generalists

I know this isn't what you're talking about but it always bother me how "specialists" classes are never used in wow and single target is king, even in boss fights where shaman enhancement topped no top guild ever used one since bringing a single target focused class is always better.

I've seen a couple runs go south because people got hit by pillars just before phase 2, wiping entire alliances. Also had a 5% wipe as well, but it was from the raid having lost the majority of people over the course of phase 3 and simply not being able to function well enough with the remaining people/weakness debuffs.

Overall though, I've seen less wipes in OM than I've seen in World of Darkness though, people still struggle on that, but I think it's because it's full of duty finder people who don't take it seriously unlike the people who queue specifically for OM.

If anything, SMN should be split from ARC and SCH because ARC is a better fit for SCH than it is for SMN.
Put more focus on different trances and demi-primals or whatever

I'd be down for giving the SMNs a different weapon (make them share BLM staves or something if they really have to) and shuffling them off as their own thing, could even write off the quests featuring other summoners in the Brass Blades as using books being a "safe-for-the-masses" method of summoning if they don't want to change any of that data.

for the sake of elezen everywhere i hope this isn't the case
the rabbits have already taken the women away

But ARC goes into BRD

Don't fucking tease me, SAM is already pretty close to a magic-swordsman on a lore front. I'd be down for some disgusting combination of SAM and BLM for gameplay.

Or just use the old Arcanist weapons from 1.0.

Attached: ACN1.0.png (909x650, 144K)

You know what I mean

>Still nothing close to a warlock affliction in ff

I want to play a caster but I hate casting long ass spells like black mage and red looks boring

I think it'd be more everyone gets tons of character variations and the specialization comes from putting the party comp together, assuming those characters' skillsets were immutable at max level. You'd be switching alts every patch in a hardcore guild trying to find what's the best for each fight you're going in to.

But like I say, this is first and foremost a failure of encounter design. Encounters are built a certain way as to ensure that a specific toolset (healer, tank, or DPS) can function in them, and are static on top of that. You don't need to evolve your strategies during an encounter because for the most part, they're scripted and behave the same way every time, sometimes changing the order of your actions but not the ones you're using. It's why you get things like turret mages being really good for fights that don't need mobility but bad otherwise, so encounters have to be designed around classes like that to ensure they're not overly penalized by moving vs being made relatively stronger than everyone else because they can remain stationary.

BLM if you want unga bunga big-dick-damage (long cast times don't matter as much as you'd think between slidecasting, Triplecast, high spell-speed and constant Fire III/Thunder procs), SMN if you want DoTs, RDM is fun but simple and is mostly a big safety net.

>dot class with a pet
Literally Summoner

Wouldn't this just create the same problem but in the opposite direction? Where everyone is expected to be generalized and those who go for specialized builds find themselves having to sit out of all sorts of content where their specialization is of no help? Having permanent lock-in choices which end up dictating how viable your character is for all kinds of content just seems like it'd end up ruining the game for loads of people. Even in vanilla WoW where builds aren't permanent, people complain that changing them is too expensive, because some builds simply aren't workable for some types of content, which effectively forces you to pay up, level another character, or just give up on certain content entirely.

I doubt it'll happen, chemist is more likely since it's in the same crystal group as dancer sam and dragoon.

But it's nice to dream. It'd be pretty wild if we got a job that could use Flare-blade.

Explain what I'm looking at.

I'd be okay with that

>chemist is more likely since it's in the same crystal group as dancer sam and dragoon.
Ehhh depends on what you think of Alchemist, I recall somebody being smarmy in an interview and saying Chemist was already in as that. Wasn't AST cobbled together out of some of their Chemist ideas, or am I misremembering and it was a wholesale replacement?

Why would either of them be limited

>You really think someone would do that? afk in the middle of town just to show off their mount?

Didn't they just turn those into the guns for the bug people?

Yes one of their initial ideas for the healer job in Heavensward was Chemist or something similar, but they chose to go with Astrologian to better fit the Ishgard theme of the expansion.

I'm under the impression AST was a result of moving away from the split job shit after the trouble ACN gave them. Pretty sure it was Time Mage and something else (doesn't immediately come to mind, it's late) that got fused.

>People are attracted by the idea of a game that's total freedom in a persistent online world because it's like having a second fantasy life but the designs almost never work in practice, in the end they are games and people will try to play them as games and not as online fantasy simulators.

Everything you've said is dead on, but then you look at games outside of the MMO context.

Grim Dawn
>multiclassing, grinding factions for gear
>multiplayer but not an MMO
>there is a meta to kill superbosses and crucible clear times but:
>it's the widest meta spread I've ever seen and
>people still have the entire single player game to level through with new builds that they may like even if they're sub optimal per the fastest clear time of the meta
>36 permutations coming up with new expac which is excluding sub variants within builds due to ranged build, melee build, pet build, caster etc.
>the fun of grouping that isn't forced by design
>after you have solved the puzzles on one build, you level a new build (because it doesn't require months of investment to start having fun or being effective, the levelling process itself has a more fun RNG component)

Obviously not a trinity designed MMO with FF budget and nostalgia draw but freedom is definitely there. Somewhen someone will design an "MMO" similarly. DAOC and War online did a bit better with more free form raids because you could be pvp raided within those raids. Rote scripted raids where your every move and top paramater of the specialist is planned in advance seems to be only truly fun for the more e-sports minded type of people and the rest of the community is basically casually erp larping and actually paying the bills. Phantasy Star Online and all the Diablos took advantage of this kind of play with much more wide ranging metas.

Scripted trinity MMOs all have this issue of locking you in a tunnel until end game in which you are locked in a small cell by other players metaphorically speaking.

didn't they just get some decent tuneups last patch tho

GEO's entire gimmick is terrain, it just wouldn't work in XIV for obvious reasons.

Usually it is but XIV's legitimately already covered their bases on that front by stating GEO works as a reverse AST, drawing magical power from Hydaelyn the planet. Probably they could get away with two or more terrain-sensitive oGCDs that do different things and then have the rest as a static skill-set.

Here is your New World Dancer bros.

Then it wouldn't be GEO.

I think it'd do more with party composition for your build than the build itself. Like, being a specialist would be fine so long as you had someone else to cover for you in spots of encounters where you're not very useful.

For example, let's take a fight that, for example, silences every player at some point for 30 seconds, forcing them to preform a DPS check to remove the debuff. You could take a specialized mage into this kind of content and still work with it, although for that 30 seconds, he'd be essentially worthless. However, if his specialization would enhance the ability for the group to preform on other phases of the fight, he's still a great choice, even if a generalist would be more useful in phases where casting isn't a thing. For this fight, you obviously don't want to take a full party of mages since you have to be able to pass the DPS check to regain use of spells, but at the same time, pure caster DPS isn't completely precluded either because a specialist mage can still contribute in other ways.

Right now, as a specific example, XIV kind of suffers from a tanking perspective of single-minded encounter design that makes it so that mitigation stats like Tenacity are never a consideration. This isn't because it would be a bad stat, but because no encounter makes use of it in such a way that it's desirable (Such as strong, steady damage over time that'd benefit from a permanent damage reduction on the main tank). I would say at this point, socketing damage on your tanks has become so entrenched in the community that the devs are afraid to retool future fights around anything else.

A staff that wields aether in the flask end of it. The end piece animates also but players would have never seen it in 1.0 due to
what this guy said. Only person who used it ingame was an NPC, and when GMs would RP him they were disallowed from utilizing combat stance.

They did, to my disapproval, turning them into stupid blast gun things.

BLM isn't a Black Mage because it doesn't have the lamplight eyes available as a player option and it can regen its MP by using Blizzard. Geomancer in its job-system incarnation would be represented just fine by something goofy like the context-sensitive oGCDs.

That'd be weird but kinda cool, don't rattle my cage.

You could have some sort of terrain shift skill and class quests could have you attuning with different terrains to gain spells. I don't think it's as hard to design as you think it is.

The fact that the GMs were allowed to RP as NPCs openly seems like the few highlights of 1.0. I wonder if there was any massive debates between players and a GM playing as Gaius or something.

Both you and I know yoshida wouldn't do that shit.

People are so unimaginative.
>Herp I can't code some terrain spells based on some texture sets

Well if that's too hard then:
>Terrain spells now follow BLM and other class AOE..Blizzard just cast? Well now that's an ice/water terrain to combo off of.

Could be really interesting in that sense. A class built around comboing off other people's spells.

>Beating a primal or raid boss unlocks their terrain for using skills.
>Using a skill from a certain terrain set warps the terrain into where you picked it from.
>This only works because the majority of arenas are square or round arenas anyway.

it still happens, but they don't use other characters though

Attached: 1552954250370.jpg (1920x1080, 324K)

I really want it to happen. Bishonen tall bun dudes would be choice

Relies too heavily on other casters being in your party. It's neat but you'd be useless the entire instance if you have nothing to combo off of.

They had whole events to it. They even had one for Nael. Only reason they did it was because the playerbase was small enough for them to do it for those that stuck along. No way they could do it for something with as many servers as modern ARR.

Well then you have a set to combo off yourself too then.

That's not RPing. That's just a GM breaking protocol by having a public appearance instead of limiting it to only the targets involved in the GM call.

Post hotbars.

But then you lose the Geomancer flavor of having to work with what you're standing on, if you can force terrain-advantage.

Kind of reminds me when the GMs would ride around in raidboss strength ships in EVE for the sleepers awakening event. Thousands of people flew in with whatever they had in the hopes of scoring the killing blow on a ship.
