Why can't both Steam and Epic Game Store co-exist?
Steam can be the PC games store for those who want a store that has no quality control and does nothing to support developers other than provide self-serve tools, payment processing and download manager for their 20%+ cut.
Epic Game Store can be the PC games store with quality control that offers developers marketing and funding support on top of payment processing and download management for their 12% cut.
i don't give a shit about epic existing but don't fucking bring console wars to pc I like steam and I won't use 2 different launchers, if a title is epic store exclusive then I'm pirating it that's all

They already co-exist, you fucking retarded faggot. What is the purpose of this thread?
Mason Martinez
Fuck that, get steam the fuck out. Tired of Valve monopolizing the PC market with their god awful launcher that updates 5-6 times a day.

Reaganonomic/Thatcherism encouraged the owners of production to asset strip countries to the highest bidder, which ended up being foreign powers. That's what happens when you have capitalism that disregards concepts like ethics, morals or beliefs.
Robert Nelson
I don't mind the epic store or them selling games on it. The problem arises when they buy exclusives and cease choice. Choice isn't if you want this game buy it here. It's hey we are selling this game too. if they wanted to stop a "monopoly" they shouldn't create a real one, maybe offer the games for a bit cheaper than other platforms
Charles Anderson
>with their god awful launcher Have you seen the Epic launcher? Everything that people complain about with Steam is worse for Epic. Its like curing AIDS with Cancer. Devs dont deserve more money for the shit they churn out so I couldnt care less about that.
Logan Adams
They can't just be cheaper than other platforms because Steam has locked that down too by offering free keys to dominate all sides of the market, so that's not much of a draw.
I genuinely can't imagine another way of competing than paying for exclusives until they gain enough audience to become self-sufficient. Seems good for developers too.
I find the whining about this hilariously disproportionately, largely because Epic Game Store seems... fine? And Steam isn't exactly special these days.
And Microsoft Store is a bit of a mess, in part because of the weird relationship it has with Windows and Microsoft's weird indecision.

Yeah, it's fine? Better UI than Steam, especially the store. Still a bit barebones - it needs more features to be scalable - but it seems but they seem to be doing significant updates at a faster pace than Steam ever did. They're getting there.
My biggest complaint is no patch notes on client update but meh.
Juan Collins
Steam's lack of basic quality control is fucking annoying, combined with the shitty presentation fo the store. The "discovery queue" is a fucking horrible way of doing anything - I'm not slowly clicking through dozens of items in a list to find something.
Just give prominence to several interesting newly released things on the front page, you assholes. Stop showing me 3 year old games that everyone knows about. That's how games shops work, it shouldn't be hard.
Adrian White
because Epic doesn't want to co-exist, they want to replace Steam
Henry Sanders
I'm sure Pepsi wants to replace Coke too.
Ryan Cruz
I wouldn't give a shit if Epic didn't pay off for exclusivity and actually had a decent launcher
Charles Anderson
>Why can't both Steam and Epic Game Store co-exist?
Because we need pointless drama
Justin Ortiz
Epic don't want to co-exist, they are allowing games to sell on Uplay and microsoft store as well as epic but not steam under any curcumstances
Lincoln Collins
>Better UI than Steam >doesn't even have a fucking shopping cart
Tim Sweeney has been very open about wanting to kill Steam.
Dominic Allen
Uplay only sells TD2 because they fucking developed it. Microsoft Store only sells TOW because fucking Microsoft fucking owns Obsidian Entertainment.
Matthew Jackson
Why do you need Steam to tell you what to buy? I'll never understand this shit, I've never used the front page to browse for games I might like.
Michael Ward
why the fuck would timmy lie about wanting to kill steam?
Mason Flores
why does Epic Store need to exist though? We already have steam and GoG. We don't need another platform. The market is going to become over-saturated
Luis Jackson
how else would lord gaben get money if I also use epic store?
Nolan Campbell
lets go

take-two is publishing the game, ms did not get the game when they bought obsidian.

there's this neat thing called "New and Trending," you retard.

>Why can't both Steam and Epic Game Store co-exist? Because Epic doesnt want to. Otherwie Epic wouldn't pay developers to not have their games on Steam.
If the devs wanted more money they would obviously release on both platforms since they'd cover more ground that way and reach bother userbases. But Epic doesn't want that. Oh no massa, Epic gon' make those devs squirt for that money!
Yeah, it's missing features, but it's well-thought-out and easy to navigate. Steam's UI and store design is a fucking mess full of useless shit.
And the features they're missing are nice-to-have and matter more as the store gets bigger. Steam didn't have a cart for quite a while either and it didn't bother me at the time.

Someone explain this me me is it supposed to be pretending a massacre happened at tiananmen square or are the people so retarded they believe it actually happened
Luke Collins
That's literally only just been introduced (because New Games was broken with the flood of shit), it shows you very little about the games aside from an icon and the name, and it's buried 3/4s of the way down the page.
It's not great, bob.
Jason Martinez
And I'm sure Pepsi execs want to crush Coke. So what? That's what competitors say.
Do you think Microsoft doesn't want to crush Sony and vice-versa?
Ryan Reed
>easy to navigate >just scroll down until you hit a game you might want being retardedly unorganized is pretty easy to navigate, I guess. And Epic isn't competing against Steam 10 years ago, it's competing against Steam NOW. Not having what should be basic features doesn't suddenly not count against them because Steam also didn't have them years ago.
Yeah, their library is small enough that they can have a simple design and don't need a shopping basket or, until recently, search.
Is a shopping basket really a big deal? Again, it difn't bother me when Steam didn't have one and it doesn't bother me now. I'm sure it'll have one eventually but it's a mild inconvenience at best. Then again, I still don't use the basket functionality on eBay.

I'll never fucking understand how "good for developerS" continues being a talking point. "Yeah bro, that new grocery store is a bit far to drive to, costs the same as the one you live right next to, and doesn't have a meat isle yet, but hey, they give their supplier a bigger cut! Oh, and they bought all the peaches in your city, if you want peaches, you're forced to go there."
The people taking my money getting more profit is not a fucking incentive to me. Talk to me once their higher cut translates into anything that's even remotely beneficial or relevant to me. Western video game developers are almost entirely lefty lunatics that are insanely entitled and hate their consumer base. Why the FUCK would I want more money for those retards, and ;less features and options for me?
Unlike the guy who responded to you first I'm not an autist BUT i see that point and I'm not a business man but I'm sure if they are able to sit down and buy exclusives than they can work out a deal for more of a cut for the developer and lower the price or figure out some other option to attract people to their store. Its not about unable, its about unwillingness and greed to destroy any competition in the first few months. Steam doesn't hold a monopoly, they're just the best option. If epic wants to compete, they need to make their store better and stop with tenecent (the major reason I dont use them)

Games aren't commodities, they are creative works. I mean, fuck EA/Activision but I'd rather small dev #3543 got the money than a middleman.
Devs are going to be attracted to better distribution terms, especially when the current margin is so big that a competitor can cut it significantly, offer far better terms and support and where the current one does minimal work for their cut.
Valve got complacent circa 5 years ago. They are the Democrats of digital dustributors
