Steve Purcell owns Sam & Max and wanted to do more seasons with Telltale, but obviously they were too interested in expensive IPs and bad attempts at trying to grow that they killed themselves. If Lucasfilm Games was interested, then they could approach Purcell and make a new one. Hell, if they've got stuff from the canned second game, they could use that as a jumping off point.
