god I hate Brawl. I almost fall asleep while playing it, it's more waiting than playing. the play style being "never approach" just means you have to force yourself to continue the match instead of liking playing

Competitive play is shit, yeah, easily the shittiest of any Smash game. But Brawl is insane fun if you can turn your brain off. Very great casual game, and it has more content than any other game.

It stayed relevant for almost 20 years. That's more than you can say than most fighting games. The only games to have that kind of legacy is Street Fighter 2

okay I lied. The games that get no attention like Dead or Alive, Killer Instinct, and Mortal Kombat aren't SFII clones. The games that get attention like guilty blood, darksiders, the one with all the girls with zone-sama, those are clones
It is fun to be better than someone at a game, and Melee lets you be way better than someone else. It respects a player who puts in more time and effort, it doesn't demean your time playing the game by letting any fag pick it up and beat you. It's good for casuals because they CAN pick it up and play it and they all had fun like they wanted to, but there was something deeper with the game that people enjoy 18 years later which is much more impressive. Instead of everybody getting bored of it, it has longevity, it rewards skill.

That's why it's a good game. Casuals love it as much as competitive players. It's just annoying when fags quantify the appeal of melee to a single mechanic like wavedash or L-canceling, as if that's the only thing differentiating it to the entries in the series.
