I tried to like wii games, but almost all of them (even the critically acclaimed ones) were so easy, shallow, and linear I could only play them once and then never wanted to play them again, or even finish them.

I can tolerate easy games, I can tolerate linear games, I can tolerate shallow games, but not all at once. Mario Galaxy was like this, Epic Yarn, Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros, Super Paper Mario, and a lot more. The few games that were exceptions to this, just weren't my cup of tea.

Also, as an aside, I'd say you're a bit off saying JRPGs don't have human elements to them. Taking from Squaresoft, for example, I've been playing through FF7 for the first time and there's plenty of what you're talking about in that, especially with Cloud's personal plot. Now, whether or not the game does a great or even good job handling those more human elements is another story, but it's certainly there, even if it can be lost in the midst of the larger 'Save the World' plot that's going on.

I don't really think Dobson understands what it's like to have real friends. His blogs and comments show what a petty, bitter misanthrope he is. That episode was just, "Oh no, my turtle's dy-I mean, he's hibernating! Yeah, he's hibernating, but let's all act like he's gonna die, even though he's obviously going to come back, let's just hide it behind all these artsy metaphors as if kids know what we're REALLY talking about."
This is of course in contrast to shows aimed at YOUNGER demographics like Mr. Rogers or Sesame Street where death was actually directly addressed, and the episodes where it was brought up had a substantial impact on those shows thereafter.
