Most servants don't get proper story focus in Link but Liz is playable from very early on and funner to play than in Extella (I imagine her being available so early was like an apology for locking her off until the fucking postgame in that, too). Her personality definitely shows in every interaction she has and there's some cute exchanges if you have her following you and talk to other servants on the hub (or the opposite, talking to Liz while you have another servant following you).

I'm honestly dissapointed with Extella Link. Umbral Star had a story. Sure, it was a really bizarre story but it was filled with Nasu's weird bullshit, monologues and style. It felt like reading the VN again and i quite like it. Extella Link barely has a story though

I disliked Extella's story almost entirely, but Link has been pretty pleasant so far, and Charlemagne is definitely a better lead than Nero or Tamamo were.

The first game's story was garbage and filled with padding itself though. Altera's route was the third one and the only interesting part at all because it was the only part that was written by Nasu, the Nero/Tamamo/Final routes were Sakurai's shitty work and you had to do the Nero and Tamamo routes with an obscene amount of Nerowank and character assassination (to make Nero look better) respectively as you played the same stages/boss over again (While putting up with Extella 1's horrendous gameplay and being forced to play as specific characters in a game where all the different playable servants were touted as a selling point). Then right after you beat the Altera route which was admittedly quite good and felt like the only part of the game worth anything, you're thrown back into a shitstain narrative which culminates in the embarassment that is Saber Venus.

Extella Link's story is basic and only the final route of it deserved to actually be in the game (I don't know what purpose the first route served and even what the branching path of that provided was covered in the final route) but it was a much better game to play and even with how simple it was it never felt like I was dragging myself through something horrible just to make it through the cutscenes like with the Nero and Tamamo paths in Extella 1. I'll also admit that I thought the final boss variant at the end was a lot neater execution-wise than the hilarious clusterfuck at the end of the first game.

Yes, the overall game is faster, the AI partners can actually tell their ass from a hole in the ground and thus can cap on their own without needing babysitting and there's a Command Seal feature which includes a teleport which means if you're in a rush to get to a sector for an objective you can reach it without making a mad dash across a billion sectors

It feels like it was made to tell people they fixed Extella's gameplay for when they decide an actual sequel to Extella gets made.
