As someone who has only played SFIV: is it worth it to get into this game? I was looking at between it and Tekken 7 but this looks a bit more fun. However I watched Final Round and top 8 was nothing but Nico mirrors and the game seems to devolve into fishing and baiting holds which is just as autistic as Tekken's fishing for launchers.

How's the PC community? Do we have lobbies yet? I don't want to buy the characters only tio have it die in a few weeks.

As a SFIV player, go with Tekken7. I vastly prefer DOa, but if you like basically playing fish for everything, and stupidly high damage with little risk (usually through generally safe pokes), then Tekken is probably where you'll want to be.

Every Kasumi player uses this combo. It's annoying because I can't read it, so I can't hold. But it looks like the very first move is a high and the rest are mids, so I just have to remember that.

The first move is a fatal stun, you can only hold the second by spending meter.

The time it takes one to realize or react to having advantage, recall the attacks that can win under advantage, input the attack, and finally have latency register and execute the attack often will cost the entire purpose of having advantage in the first place.

When does the input even get put in? I don't understand the game's timing enough to knock when to hit the button. Is it right after the clash or before? Or what? 0.05s is a small window and I doubt you can see it.

Active frames are the frames where the attack can actually hit the opponent. So even if your opponent is out of range during the first several active frames, but walks into it on the final active frame, they can still get hit.

You get costume points for your character if you play as her in all the modes save for DOA Quest in which it's only random so it's not about luck unless you're nitpicky it going towards random costumes with your character, then sure but it takes like no time to unlock them all if you play as her/him.

in my days of playing street fighter all the time thats mostly true but you eventually need to memorize some combos because having good basics and knowing when to jab gets tiring knowing all you need is a couple good openings to completely destroy someone instead of dragging it out and needing to keep up your game to make 8 openings

Eventually you will have mirror match and see what combos your opponent did and simply copy paste them into your style. You dont need side channel research as long as you are beneath tournament skill ceiling levels.

It depends on each case. Most people usually do an attack for mid when they get up and you're close. If you start to hold that, they'll switch to lows which if you can block or hold. They'll just flat out get up or delay it. Either way, you just figure it out based on watching the other person each time. If they don't get up, you can just go smash on them too. If you're going to gamble though, gamble on a mid kick hold.

In DOA, generally the one on the ground has the advantage. The one on the ground is invulnerable to most attacks and has plenty of ways to get up.

Against a grounded enemy, you can use 2P or 8P+K to attack them, but then you risk getting hit by a get up attack.

Hold Gambling is actually pretty safe: 50% chance of doing good damage and 50% chance of taking minor damage.
Or just prepare to attack them after they've gotten up.

The Hold system doesn't make a lot of sense to me. How can I get countered WHILE I'm hitting a guy? It seems like block punishing would be fucked, because if I do a move that's like, -15 on block, but I know what your 15 frame punisher is, then I can just Hold it and beat the move that's explicitly designed to punish my mistake. Just seems really weird.

Play online and do combo strings until you get to C rank and then learn how to throw people who hold fish. Also learn to block at some point in there, but it doesn't really matter because you should be combo stringing the other person before they can touch you.

As someone who has only played SFIV: is it worth it to get into this game? I was looking at between it and Tekken 7 and this looks a bit more fun and fast paced. In SFV you need to push practically all combos in advance. Before a second hit animation finishes you are already inputing DP motion. The fastest jab is 3 frames long.

In DOA the fastest move is around 9 frames. That means everything is 3 times slower than what you are used to. In practical terms: you dont have to input anything in advance. You literally still have time to continue combo while seeing the animation of your last hit playing out. If you want to cancel the combo in middle of it (to confuse enemy, evade hold), press guard.

Yes this game has gurd button. Hold it at all times when you arent doing anything else. Double tapping move keys do sidestep. Sidestep is practically invincble shriouken like in SF. Except certain moves actually tracks your enemy and hits you regardless. But noobs dont know this. Sidestep them and then murder.
