The biggest fuckup they made with Wild Card/independent ending was allowing too much leeway that 99% of players think it's a faction ending that's basically "Mr. House, but it's me" where the Courier is some king ruling over his lands.

The reality is that it's meant to be an "anti-faction" choice where the Courier allows the Wasteland to be totally anarchic, with the extent of his control being at most the Strip and even that's doubtable. The Securitron army is meant to be a deterrent to outside invaders, not a ruling force. Literally everything points to this.

I don't really recall that, but my main point is that I don't think it's accurate to act like he's immune to the passage of time's effect on his psyche. From the time he woke up everything was directed towards turning the Vegas Tribes into cosplayers to bring back his cities image. Then it was tracking down the Platinum Chip and teaching Benny to be his Protege and then dealing with that betrayel. House has so far always had something to focus all his attention on. At some point after the Courier succeeds his machination, there is gonna be a point where things are developing on the rails, at which point he's probably just going to go back to sleep until exciting starts happening again.

The guys smart, so he's bright enough to know getting burnt out on life is a very real threat to his endeavors. That's part of why he needs Lieutenants.
