Why is this game hated ? I thought this game was trash with all the negativity but it turned out to be my favourite Final Fantasy after I played Zodiac Age
Why is this game hated...
It's my favorite too. I don't think it's particularly hated, though.
At the time, people perceived it as a game that 'played itself,' glossing over the fact that taking direct control was always possible. It doesn't seem people are that upset about it anymore, at least in contrast to what's followed it.
The fact that IZJS (the "real" version of XII) never got released outside of japan left a bad taste for XII in a lot of peoples' mouths. Its what added the job system and fixed a lot of the major issues the vanilla game had. Zodiac age is essentially an HD remaster of IZJS with further QoL changes that make it even better.
There's also the fact that when XII came out people who played it were probably fans of the prior series games (or at least X) and expecting something similar and it was very different in gameplay. And XI was skipped by a lot of people because it was an MMO (that ironically played really similar to XII)
TLDR:
XII was pretty mediocre
IZJS was great, but never released to the west
Zodiac age was really great, and was released to everyone
If this game was released as an Ivalice spinoff rather than a mainline FF game, it would have been much better received.
Just saying.
>balthier starts with a gun despite being one of the worst gun users
>basch is actually one of the best bow users because of his high strength
I like the game but it has some weird balancing, fortunately it doesn't really matter since there's no reason to min/max these games
Its not, its one of those games where people only have a few old meme anecdotes to say about it, that Vaan was shoehorned in and the game plays itself. Both of these comments are the complete go-to for this game and have been for the past 12 years, but neither are remarkably important or describe the game at all. Very rarely will you find someone who played the game and hated it, but all the people who never think about it will remember, 'oh its that game they shoehorned Vaan into, that plays itself', because thats what people say.
Zodiac edition fix a lot of retarded things like that.
I'm guessing it has to do with the retarded backwards decision to pair an archaic combat system with a modern seamless world design and then players setting it on auto-pilot for the most part because the other alternative is actual cancer. And also the party of really weak characters who have zero chemistry with each other. The lack of decent setpieces. The license board being a downgrade from the sphere grid. The disjointed and slow paced storytelling. The sheer grindiness of it all with containers having a percentage chance to give you good items or enemies needing a high enough chain to increase their drops.
But it has good things going for it too like.... uh..... music? What an absolute dogshit game.
retards like you should never get anywhere close video games
It doesnt have an archaic combat system, it has an gambit system, and toure supposed to use it. Dont call it 'autopilot' like its some random side system, its the combat system and the first part of your post is a complaint predicated entirely on not using it until you get annoyed for not using it
BASCH LIVES!
>uuuuh i dont know I dont really remember but if you dont use its features its boring and lame so you have to use its features which sucks
It was only fun for me after I got the hang of chaining gambits together to steal efficiently and get more Gil to buy the better items. I can see why it's not a huge fan favorite though, those who played on the original PS2 experienced horrible load times, the story was more about the war than the characters themselves, you got to buy licenses to use anything, And the game really does play by itself, Those who say, "you can just play manually without the gambits", well that's the worst thing you can do.
Yes, it does. They paired a classic menu navigation system with real time free roaming. It's fundamentally stupid. Normally games of this type reduce the amount of choices in the menus AND provide hotkeys to make shit seamless and convenient. But this garbage game's designers couldn't even understand something so basic, this is why they had to make gambits as a shitty bandaid solution. But watching your characters play the game by themselves while you sit back isn't any better than you scrolling through all your spells to find the one you want while your asshole gets reamed or the enemy sits around in wait mode. The options the game gives you are simply not fun unless you're severely autistic. They don't fit the world design and I'm pretty sure no other game's devs were retarded enough to use the same systems since.
Imagine being this embarrassingly fucking stupid. Holy shit, can you even breathe and type at the same time?
I played this game back in 2008 on emulator at 4x speed and had a blast, then they added 4x to the re-release. Thats funny
It's just a boring offline mmo. Occupational therapy.
no bangaa no buy
why the fuck won't they give us a good singleplayer ivalice experience FUCK
The Zodiac is near perfect if not for annoying RG chests.
You dont have to like the gambit system, but literally skipping the tutorial and the feature just to find out why its needed, is ridiculous. The game isnt particularly hard but its a little bit more than 'just autopilot' being that you set it. Anyways skipping the gambit system and complaining about using the menus is strange because the game has the gambit system to allieviate your menus.
Not trying to make you like the game, because it is wonky for sure, but you talk about the gambit system like you cant use it until you get frustrated from not using it
Real Ivalice has Automatons and Pigs. Pigs can be bred to make Ribbons.
I just pre-ordered this for Xbone. I played the PS2 version back in the day and loved it.
I'm stressed out over choosing what classes to pick for each character for my first zodiak playthrough.
Are the Zodiak Spear no-touch chests still the same?
No, chests don't remove the zodiac spear anymore. You can also change jobs whenever you want in the new Xbox One version
>literally skipping the tutorial and the feature just to find out why its needed, is ridiculous
>you cant use it until you get frustrated from not using it
What are you even talking about at this point?
>more than 'just autopilot'
No it's not. You set a condition and an action to do when that condition is met. It's automated. Or you navigate through a bunch of menu screens to do that action manually. These are your options, and both options suck horse cock and are the antithesis of what real time free roaming games do.
>He didn't enjoy being able to pick Fran as avatar, and then play one-handed
Shitty childhood.
The game is much better if you dont worry avout the Zodiac Spear, its only slightly better than the secons best weapon, its inclusion is such a negative that makes players anxious over something unimportanf
I mean skipping the main system and then complaining about playing without it is silly. Anyways for me I'm happy to set my gambits for an area and grind it. Cant really say free time roaming is always about your keyboard rotation.
It's my favorite since 6, incredibly underrated game. Plebs shit on it because the plot has a strong focus on political drama.
So the Zodiak Spear is just lying around then? That is nice. I'm excited to play, but it comes out in a month so damn.
Hello, I'm the guy who normally posts that long FFXII copypasta about Penelo's ass. Unfortunately, I got a new computer and forgot to copy the notepad file I had with it. If anyone else has the pasta, I'd appreciate it being posted.
Who talked about skipping anything. I described both systems and told you why they suck and why they play a big part in people disliking this awful game, and why no other game of note uses this design.
