Not in the least
No. And the memes that halo 4 had a good story and halo 5 had good multiplayer are false as well.
General consensus is that it was not a good game, but I still liked it. Which is ok, everyone is allowed to like a bad game or two. I'm not smart enough to understand or point out WHY a game is bad on my own though. thankfully Yea Forums is here to tell me why that game I like is shit.
It was a great game. Name a complaint without resorting to "journalist critiques".
Nope. The Forerunner books are though. People who shit on them never read them.
no
You were too weak. So the classic Halo gameplay of running into the middle of a fight to blast people away and melee them went out the window for CoD-style mid-range cover engangements.
I like it. Because its the close thing to a Metroid Prime game. Also, Cortana was beautiful
The story as a whole were shit, but Cortana and Chief's arc was really good. They wrote an excellent Cortana. Most of her most memorable lines are from 4.
Multiplayer was alright, my least favorite of the Halos but I still had fun with it
Easily the worst game in the series. Which is good in a way, because it shows 343 are improving.
Lol no. 5 is literally worse than Colonial Marines.
Not sure if you are wise or just a weeb with above the bottom line intelligence pretending to be smart.
>The Forerunner books
Even by the standards of potboiler sci-fi they were generic schlock, I can't believe anyone defends them. If a competent writer took charge of the franchise they'd be immediately declared non-canon.
Greg Bear is a great sci-fi writer.
Halo as a whole is generic schlock. It does every sci-fi trope out there. We only like the """lore""" because it was the first time kid you had seen that stuff.
Literally how? 5's campaign obviously suffered from major last-minute rewrites due to time/hardware constraints, similar to what happened with Halo 2. But the multiplayer is leagues ahead of 4's, nobody sane disputes that, and it's not like 4 had a good campaign anyway.
just my opinion here on this franchise in general.
>Halo CE
my first game, god-tier campaign and god-tier multiplayer (PC)
>Halo 2
good, couple of boring missions, but a solid title with excellent multiplayer.
>Halo 3
good campaign, overrated multiplayer. lot of guns felt weak and poorly designed, movement felt sluggish compared to previous entries. campaign was amazing though and the maps were 10/10.
>ODST
good, not much to say here.
>Reach
breath of fresh air with a great story, but armor abilities divided the community. Sprint was a godsend but the rest can screw off. DMR is the raifu and Firefight/Forge were the tits.
>Halo 4
6/10 story, MP was also a 6/10.
>Halo 5
please delete this title from existance.
Halo was never good
No it was garbage. Every Halo after 3 should never have existed. I'm not forgetting about "b-but muh ODST!" crap either that game was a ripoff and shit.
I'm talking campaign only. It is an absolute chore to play through. One of the worst FPS campaigns I've ever played. Every character is shit and annoying. Plot is nonsensical. Environments are fucking ugly and don't look anything at all like Halo. Guns are unsatisfying. Enemies are trash and just a chore to fight. I never want to play that campaign again. I'm not exaggerating when I say Colonial Marines was better.
Such as? Be specific
>overrated multiplayer
Nonsense. Halo 3's multiplayer was not as good as 2's but it was damn close. The maps were fun, Forge led to awesome game modes, and the community toed the fine line of shittalking and being able to back up their shit.
And Peter Watts is one of the best sci-fi writers alive, but there's a reason he makes fun of Crysis: Legion on his own website. Books written as videogame tie-ins are paycheques, plain and simple. It doesn't matter how good the author is, they're churning out X pages to order and they'll be the first to candidly admit the end result is completely uninspired and soulless. But the Forerunner saga deserves special hate for actually fucking up the canon.
Sprint is shit. Halo should just increase movement speed. Taking away the ability to shoot while moving just slows the game down even more, and incentivizes running away.
No
It's a shame 343 aren't open like Bungie was, I'd enjoy an in-depth breakdown of how exactly Halo 5 was developed and what the fuck happened with their advertising campaign. IIRC there was a neogaf post talking about how they couldn't get the engine to render foliage properly and had to completely redesign all the levels close to launch. Plot definitely felt like it was pieced together at the last minute.
>Halo
Ring world. Larry Niven is best example, but many others have done it
>Covenant
Religious zealots that want to destroy humanity...and ironically humanity the "choosen" race by the "gods" that they worship. Been done 1000 times.
>Art design
Human ships are just giant industrial guns. Alien ships Are smooth and organic. Yawn.
>Flood
This is space zombies fingus. Also a common enemy. Gravemind being a hive mind fungus fits right in.
>AIs can go rogue
See every space novel with AI ever
>343 guilty spark
Robot uprising.
Halo is kinda like Starship Troopers. Its designed to be as generic as possible.
You were never good
The main series of games is generic sci-fi, but it's done very well, which is why it's popular. The books are just straight-up schlock without any redeeming qualities. If they didn't have the Halo brand name attached they wouldn't even be able to find a publisher.
Yea you're right there are some tropes, just like any other genre. Let's see what else Halo offers outside of tropes though. It's not like Star Trek was the beginning of tropes and Halo is definitely no the end.
Can you think of any parts of Halo that were original?
Literally every work of fiction is derivative, prove me wrong.
No. They tried to characterize master chief and ruined his character in the process. Also
>AN ANCIENT EVIL AWAKENS
>It has tropes, that means its bad
>Name a complaint without resorting to "journalist critiques".
"Journalist Critiques" is vague and ambiguous as to meaning
>my first game
it shows
Watch this shit and tell me you don't have at least a few good memories pop into your head.
youtube.com
I remember being on the football field running laps before practice and the guys ahead of me were talking about Halo 3 being released soon. There was so much fucking hype for this game and IMO it's one of the few that lived up to and rided that hype well until people got moved on years later.
Good game, weak Halo game.
Campaign was decent and the story was good, everything else was shit, the exact opposite of Halo 5.
The campaign had amazing fucking setpieces that it typically failed to execute on. The mammoth, elephant, and longsword were fucking awsome ideas, but coulda been done better. The music is solid to but they made accident ditching marty.
