It's true that they receive some government gibs (the success of M&B literally put turkey on the map for game dev), but the amount will be nothing compared to what they'll do in sales. The gibs isn't why they're taking their time.

Remember, Turkey is a pretty cheap place to live, but they target western gamers and charge western prices. Bannerlord will have them absolutely drowning in cash for the next decade once its released.

Why is it taking so long? I'd understand if it was a major overhaul but it looks almost identical with extra gameplay features, even the animations are still garbage.

Same reason DNF took forever. They are in development hell, they keep trying to build new techs to build their game but end up scraping a lot of already made assets and also shitty management and no set in stone plans.
Anyway a lot of people don't seem to realize that Taleworlds is based inside an university campus in Ankara, their core team is actually fairly small and a lot of their devs are also students. So this means they have constant rotation of their staff which they must train over and over again.

You'd think with all the copies they've sold, they could afford a proper office and developers in Turkey of all places.

I'm amazed their dictator gives a shit about funding video games in the first place.
