Persona 3 has easily the weakest plot of the games though, you're just dropped in mid-story and somehow everyone knows way more than you even if they've literally just joined the dorms, your character does nothing, is quiet and moody and yet somehow everyone throws themselves at you and somehow knows you're special. P4 and P5 really make it feel like you're building up a team from the ground up, in P3 you're just some random bitch thrown into the deep end.

Some of the guys were interested in hanging out with P3MC at first because a) they're desperate, b) he arrived with yukari on his first day of school. And then he rightfully gains their trust and admiration during the monorail incident, giving them the right instructions during battle and having a unique new power. But they're still not friends, that only happens by the end of the game.
