1080p 144hz monitor or 1440p 144hz monitor?

Attached: 278E8QJAB_00-IMS-en_GB[1].jpg (1250x1017, 106K)

do you want to spend a lot of money or a lot more money

1440p 144hz obviously how is this even a question
you lower the resolution to 1080p if your gpu is too shit for some games

You reckon a 1080ti would be enough for the 1440p 144hz monitors?

good luck getting 144fps at 1440p

depends what kind of games you play
if you only play the latest AAA then probably not unless you turn graphics to low which kinda defeats the whole purpose

1440@144hz will be awful if you don't have freesync/gsync on your monitor or if you don't have a monster of a computer, simply uncapping your frames causes microstutters on 6/10 games because it won't sit at a stable 144hz on anything but the beefiest builds and that shit is noticeable
Just read up on monitors that have received the freesync update, it makes a world of difference when gaming above 60fps

Don't waste your money. Wait for 144Hz 4k monitors. Pray for OLED

>oled
>4k
nice memes, reddit

I literally just ordered this monitor FUCK OFF FBI

>4k
>meme
I'm sorry about your bad eyes, grandpa

don't buy new one until your old is dead.

LOL good luck getting 144+ fps @ 3840x2160

oled would be fantastic if they solve the burn-in

Shh just get the new Nvidia GeForce RTX cards and it will be all good.

Just because you have a 144hz monitor doesn't mean you need 144fps in every game and you can always perfectly upscale FullHD to 4k.
On 2560x1440 you can't upscale because upscaling 1280x720 looks awful.

1440p 144hz = you need a top of the line GPU to max it out, think 2080 and 2080Ti

1080p 144hz = a 2070 or Radeon 7 is overkill

t. 1440p 144hz owner

4k 60 fps unless you're an fps babby

I've also been thinking about upgrading my PC/building a new one. It would be a nice to get an opinion from you all. Here are my current stats:
Intel i7 4790k
Gigabyte GTX 970 Windforce
8GB RAM

Your framerate does not need to match your refresh rate.
A midrange card will do fine at 2560x1440.

t. 1440p 144hz owner

144p 1080hz

ryzen 3700x
2080ti (go for galax and shit they're not overpriced)
32gb ram 3200 mhz ram
1tb SSD (no need to go NVME yet)
Noctua dh-15
850W gold psu

what monitor, bru?

I've had an LG C7 for nearly 2 years, 60% brightness with average 5-6 hours a day of use, no burn in yet.
I wouldn't use an OLED monitor for office work or generic PC but definitely for a dedicated gaming rig.

Most oled burn in warnings are from using it at 90%-%100

define midrange card
is 1070 midrange?

What kind of question is this? The latter is straight up better, it's only a matter of what you can afford.

Yeah but shouldn't your FPS match your refresh rate if you're trying to maximize use of your hardware?

1070 is mid-high range
I have yet to find a game that runs at lower than 90fps, but without freesync on it stutters

yes. Anything between ~$150 and ~$350 is midrange
A RX580/1060 will play games fine on high settings at 2560x1440
A Vega/1070 will max out 99% of games at 2560x1440

Only if you run with vsync on. No other reason to match framerate and refresh rate

You're talking at 60 FPS though, right?

>required a 2070 first = 600 eurobuck
No thx

Is the Vega 56 a decent upgrade to push higher frames in newer games?

Attached: speccy.png (494x394, 20K)

1440p only makes sense if you have a modern graphics card, like 1080, 2070 or better

above 60fps.

You are redit

Special snowflake

Not quite 144 FPS though? I find it hard to believe that's possible, my cousin's 1080 ti barely does that at 1440p, gets some drops.

you can go for a 1660 for 220 bucks
allah willing we will have a 1080 tier gpu for 300 bucks by next year

>Noctua
HAAHHAHAHAHAHA
Don't listen to this retard

4K 240hz
Anything else its for the console plebs and budget rigs poebs

Jesus Christ get dual channel RAM. Preferably DDR4-3200

Wait for 7nm GPUs before upgrading. Vega was a good buy when it was new but now it's getting old and soon to be replaced.

Wait for what dumbfuck 4k 240/144 monitores are thing from years ago now
Try to keep up

Can you stop throwing these numbers around as if they mean anything? How many FPS you are getting depends on the game you are playing.
Some games you get 60fps. Some games you get 200fps

>Not playing at full resolution
>not playing at full frameraye
>upscaling your resolution
MAY AS WELL YOU A CONSOLE YOU POOFAG PLEB

So as long as adaptive-sync is activated, there's no jittery image if the FPS fluctuates between 60-144hz right? Not rich enough for 2080ti to get 144fps constantly but the few games I play shouldn't be an issue to have at 144fps.

Nice furnace but he ask for a pc dumbass

I understand that, I go off of modern popular games. My 970 can run Half-Life at 4K 144 Hz. Saying your midrange card will run games at 1440p 144 Hz is too broad of a statement, the burden of clarification is on you, not me.

Kek thats budget range midrange its 1080ti/2080

Are literally-who brands like Zotac, Galax and Colourful actually worth it? Sure, they are usually the cheapest ones but GPU is a one time purchase for most people so they are usually okay with spending a little bit extra to get the more well-known and trusted brands like Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus.

AHHHHHHHH FUCK MONITORS
I have a acer wqhd TN display which has issues with the Vesa mount so the retailer allowed me to sent it back
Meanwhile I got a acer wqhd monitor with ips and fuck this shit
Animes look jaggy on the ips one but fine on the TN one. I hate TN so I wanted an ips. Also tried VA few 2 years ago, also jaggy with animes
Why is TV the best option but little sized tvs are shit? Why is there no good monitor?

>shilling for gimmicks

>No good monitor
Buys a cheap acep crap
Kek

Yes I have a 1080ti and 1440p 144hz monitor. Any game worth playing should run at 144hz or close enough. Games with drm will depend on cpu more. Also since Nvidia now support freesync I can use that since I didn't opt for spending a lot more for a gsync one.

>modern popular games
which vastly vary in framerates.
A midrange card like Vega 56 or GTX 1070 will play any game at reasonable framerates at 2560x1440. If that means 60, 80, 100 or 150fps depends entirely on the game or if you are willing to sacrifice a couple graphics details for more frames.

This
Fuck noctua cucks

embarassing, here's your (you) that you obviously need so much

Nah the VA was from Samsung and at work I have a Dell p22
All show anime jaggy

No shit faggot you need to have a 240hz monitor to watch anime as smooth as on a TV

Any more recommendations?

I was simply asking if a used 1080 or something similar would work with a 2560x1440/144hz panel.

Bought an RTX 2080 and Pg279q and I can't see the difference between 1080p & 1440p. I feel something is wrong.

The games I used were RE2 and DMCV and both identical in those two resolutions.

>spent 500 cucks on a 240 hz monitor
>get a great tv for 600 cucks
like i said
fuck monitors
also you skipped the part that my tn monitor doest look jaggy retard

Isn't the 2080 similar to the 1080ti? Won't it be outdated in a year?

I got a g-sync 1440p 144hz monitor a year ago refurbed from newegg for 450 and i love it. Zero issues and holds up just fine with my 1070. Taxing games get the benefit of 1440 and get smoothed out by gsync. Non-taxing games and work shit gets the full benefit of 144hz. Anything over 60 is immediately noticeable anyway.

The performance boost isn't really worth it, no.

>Acer GN246HLBbid
Is there a better budget 144hz monitor? I'm sticking to 1080 because I only have a 1060.

Attached: acer.jpg (1500x1044, 229K)

how much was that? I got an asus 27'' TN 144hz monitor for like 270 bucks, not super cheap but it had freesync and that's something I've been meaning to test out for years

I can get it for $225 dollars. It's probably cheaper in America but we have to pay VAT in the UK.

this is awful, what is this a ps2 game on 4K ?

144hz for souce games and other competitive shit

60hz for your ps4 cinematic experiences at 24 fps

1080p 60Hz

this, fuck higher than 1080p. More fps every time

finnaly man of reason
eventualy 75hz, but more is overkill

there will be literally no problem aircooling this as long as you have a decent case and not be a retard in airflow

pic related, i have the same chair as this guy

1080ti + 1440p144 reporting in
yes most things run fine on ultra.

>Just because you have a 144hz monitor doesn't mean you need 144fps in every game
>Just because you have a 144hz monitor doesn't mean you need 144fps in every game
>Just because you have a 144hz monitor doesn't mean you need 144fps in every game

someone actually said this

It would. I sell the things. OLED is fantastic and honestly if youre just watching movies and occasional gaming youll be fine. Get a protection plan though since sony and lg will just go lol if you try and go through them.

Aside from.black crush here and there oleds have the best picture bar none

Dumb question for those who have two monitors, how does it work when you have a game playing in one and the other shows desktop? Do you have to play in fullscreen mode so the mouse doesn't flip to the other screen? I take it there's no issue running a monitor with 144hz for gaming side by side with one with a 60hz refresh rate?

I already have a 4k 200hz tv for gayman so there's your answer. Obviously I play it on 1080p 144hz

4K 60Hz

big oled will have horrible shelf life though
tv is nice but has too much input lag and photon radiation

Attached: twiceromeoandjuliet.png (700x305, 207K)

1080p, 144hz, motion blur reduction is the patrician choice

Depends. Some games "capture" the mouse (or have settings to enable such) so it'll stay bound to that screen until you tab out, others (GW2 i'm looking at you) are a fuckfest and will be anything from mildly irritating to unplayable (GW2 you fuck) because the cursor actually travels to the 2nd monitor, even in fullscreen mode, and you'll either get tabbed out randomly or the cursor will suddenly jump around when clicking.
Also, running videos or really anything other that requires work from your GPU on the 2nd monitor will most likely cause frame drops and stuttering.

>200hz tv
You absolutely sure it's actually 200hz and not interpolation?

>photon radiation
Are you afraid of the sun, too?

I just recently got my first 1440p 144hz monitor, games run pretty well for me thus far. Still using a 980ti, so obviously don't get 144 FPS on any newer games, but still manage to maintian above 60 for the most part.

I'm getting tempted to get a 49inch monitor, redpill me on 32:9 aspect ratios is it a meme?

You get what you pay for. Don't cheap out on something that can last 5-6 years or so.

Well I was promised that it specifically is "true 200hz", so it SHOULD be. However I have no way to test it out really

The chips themselves are the same, different brands basically just do their own clock speeds and cooling.

I mainly stick to Gigabyte, though I have used Gainward before, and they were also pretty good.

Generally, in my experience though, Gigabyte is the cheapest of the well-known brands.

Zotac are not literally who
