Battles with special rules. You essentially have rock paper scissors and brick wall type spirits(brick wall not countering anything but can't be countered either). Power level of spirits directly effects your defense/offense(being a lot lower than the opponent means you'll rack up damage faster)
Conditions in bottom left are the special rules for that specific battle, heads under DK's name shows all the extra fighters.
OP's picture is a big meme but legend(hardest difficulty) fights typically are that annoying.
