Yes, gothic 1/2 was undeniebly a masterpiece.
But this game reached a level of comfy and kino not a single game has done yet.
Do you agree?

They should've stopped after Gothic 2
>harbor town music plays
>hear the waves and cacophony of townspeople
I installed the game just for this
I enjoyed this and the second to an extent. If you can look past the combat, animations, and the rest, it's pretty comfy
Thank god they didnt. I would rather see a shit g3 and then play risen than not playing either
Redpill me on Gothic 2. What makes it so good?
The environments were definitely high in comfiness, but the combat was pretty clunky and the magic was underwhelming. The fact that there were only about five faces for NPCs wasn't great either. And I wish it didn't take so long to get an outfit with some damn shoes.
Gothic 1 makes it so good.
Seriously. You meet a lot of people you met in 1 and see the consequences. Also it has a comfy city and really good characters, difficulty ramps and map design
I agree on the spells.
The combat wasnt bad, just different but still in a good gothic way.
Also the end boss was terrible. I still love it tho
One thing I didn't like was how merely being a mage was tied to a specific faction. I also didn't care for how you couldn't be a pure mage from the beginning, you had to spend the first third of the game as a melee/bow user until you sort of "graduate" into magehood. Apparently that's how all of PB's games work, and that - along with what I've heard about Gothic's control scheme - has made me reluctant to try their other games.
So are there any other RPGs where you're in a tropical/island setting? Despite my problems with Risen's gameplay, I did like the comfy setting.
nah PB should learn to make new games instead of cloning Gothic every year and putting Jack in all of them for >le ebin running gag
oops i double tapped barely and fell off a cliff, dodged into a mob of enemies, off the stairs
fuck again oh theyre going to fix it.
..
..
how many expansions still now were at elex same fucking BULLSHIT
finished risen 1 some time ago without using any bug fixes
hovering while falling was kind of funny
dunno but it was peak comfy when i was a kid
i remember reading about it in a magazine where it showed the some screenshots of the harbour and i was so excited to play it after playing Gothic 1
never felt that way about any game since then
also unpopular opinion but i like Gothic 3 too, i mean besides the shitload of bugs it had on release it was a pretty nice game and it had more variety than previous games
you could be your classic hero in Europeland or become sand dweller in what was the best desert in a game at that time, larp as a nord etc.
it lost some character leaving the original lands behind but it was still Gothic
I didn't get combat or the point of crafting. And I didn't like that hey wen't with pirates instead of medieval tropics for sequel.
If I didn't like Gothic, is there any point playing Risen because of how similar they are?
I would say yes. The combat change but in its clunkiness is still similar to Gothic
Fun facts i found out about Gothic 1 in a old romanian gaming magazine.
The original plan was for the game to mostly take place in a gothic catedral that was so big that other building were build inside of it. It was sealead by magical a dome and the only thing coming out was gold digged from a mine which was exchanged for food.
The main story is basically a prison break story. And Piranha Bytes planned to have co-op multiplayer with up to 4 players.
Stuff also looked a bit different as you can see in the pics.
Too bad the protagonist in Risen 3 is such a fag. At least the companions know how lame he is and routinely make fun of him.
I can't get gothic 1 or 2 working on win10
I really need to replay this, played it a long time ago, never finished it.
I remember it being comfy.
You need some patches, google it.
Risen was comfy because of this
Why did they swap the hero from 1 and 2 for this retard?
i love all three risen games unironically
>Played Risen 2 and 3 a few years ago
what a weird ride
It was shit
I really enjoyed it, played through it 2-3 times. Might go back for another at some point but it'll have to go in the queue for now. Nice little adventure, nice puzzles, lots of other nice little ingredients that made it memorable.
>Yes, gothic 1/2 was undeniebly a masterpiece.
they were boring as shit, the world design was formulaic and cramped and the quest design hideous
Gothic 3 is the bestone
10/10 prequel
10/10 characters
10/10 writing
11/10 world design
11/10 quest design
Also the game is challenging, combat is the best of all gothics, soundtrack is amazing.
Question should be: does is actually have any weaknesses? And i'd say yes, certain end-game fights are pure fucking diarrhea and the ending sequence doesnt really have any replay value after first playthrough... also writing of certain parts of NotR expansion doesnt stand up to par with rest of the game. Control scheme can feel clunky if you're used to modern controls but its actually great when you get used to it.
my personal gripe with Risen was that it suffered from the same flaw that Gothic 1 and 2 did. The endgame was horribly linear and boring
It’s a clumsy boring mess for about the first six goddamn hours.
Hard pass.
>the world design was formulaic
Please, list some opposite examples of games that in your opinion have varied and better executed world design.
Morrowind yes arguably but you have to have several other games in mind if you are calling gothic 2 world design bad
It lost the unique setting in favor of generic fantasy with dragons n shiet. NotR is excellent though.
Yes, Risen is amazing.
some quests can be very vague and send you off on a wild goose chase across the whole map
>Gothic 3 is the bestone
Gothic 3 is a fucking mess, the green middle part and reputation systems are great but thats about it, Nordmar is a complete mess and the desert is even more of an unfinished joke that barely even supports the mainquest structure.
Yes
It is comfy, epic for the win, kino, based, patrician, redpilled, its powerlevel is over 9000, it rekts the competition and it has never lost the game truly the Citizen Kane of video games for gentlemen and scholars like you and me.
Neverending love for Gothic 1 and 2 is the only reason to ever try any other PB game.
Always check PCgamingwiki for older games.
pcgamingwiki
I know it's an unpopular opinion, but NotR is inferior to Khorinis
>not Night of the raven
based Yea Forums casual
First hour of risen is great like gothic1 or 2 but after that game is pure shit, nothing new or intresting happens
Name three games you enjoy playing.
>inb4 ironically naming three terrible games
its much much much better with Night of the raven expansion
vanilla is SHIT for casuals with no taste at all
PB can't finish their games for shit, while playing i knew that upon entering the mountain the fun would stop, and in the end they managed to make it even worse by turning the final boss into a piss easy rhythm game/bullet hell hybrid
Everything untill that point was top notch tho
Night of the Raven is still part of Gothic 2, retard.
>Night of the Raven is still part of Gothic 2, retard.
without NotR gothic 2 is easy boring shit
Yeah so whats your point, faggot? PB should've stopped after NotR then, dipshit.
Gothic 3 is a great game, ahead of its time. I love it. It's just as comfy as other ones, but with better gameplay imo, it loses on story though. Huge diverse loadingless world is one of the best in gaming history.
I love vanilla GII more than NoTR.
NotR is good but it's too eclectic.
so I guess I have to play the first one, then?
Is there some mods to fix the controls, or to I just need to gitgud?
Yes, the first is an unpolished diamond.
Try to ignore the mouse. Seriously two hands on the keyboard is comfy and a lot easier to play than with a mouse.
Just gitgud. It's not that hard and once you get used to it it really becomes strangely intuitive. Also get the acrobatic skill so you can roll through the map. It's faster than running.
Totally agree. Had loads of fun with it, despite the obvious flaws. The sequels were shit tho.
gitgud.
The control scheme is weird because the game was released before developers figured out a standard, but it's probably one of the best attempts.
It's not meant for usability but effciency, which means it's unintuitive to get into, but after 4-5 hours, once you're used to it, you can play it with one hand and use the other to jerk off
First third of Risen was pretty good. But then it drops the ball pretty hard if you don't build your character correctly.
I find Gothic and Risen superior to Gothic 2. Mainly just because they marked my imaginary more.
All their games are hyper comfy, you should give Elex a try. I even appreciated Gothic 4 Arcania, I remember playing that during a mush trip it was amazing. I didn't try Risen 2/3.
Risen, Risen 2, Risen 3
The comfiest and kinoest games ever made. You cannot refute this.
>Gothic 3
>better gameplay
Can't tell if you are joking or having a fever dream.
I really liked Elex too
Are there any mods or patches that fix the optimization for gothic 3 and forsaken gods?
Arcania g4 was better a better game than risen.
Prove me wrong
3 did a lot of neat things but the game world was so tiny everything was squished together, that and the combat flipped and they made it way too easy.
Loved Gothic 1 & 2. Can't get 3 to work on my PC, it just runs like shit no matter what I do.
I haven't played elex or risen, which of those are worth playing?
i agree OP (though i would not give it such high praise). risen 2 and 3 are complete shit however.
Both.
Risen, Elex is shit.
>Can't get 3 to work on my PC
Did you install the community patches?
>I haven't played elex or risen, which of those are worth playing?
Elex is ok, but the initial part where you are very weak (which is in all of these games) is around 70% of the game, I had to farm basically all of the side missions before I was actually able to kill shit.
If you ever play Risen, don't even consider playing as a mage.
sort of, yeah. but gothic 2 also had a much better world. they increased the size but kept it just as cool to explore, and extra comfy to boot.
Definitely get risen, its the closest to the original two.
Elex is a double edged sword. I personally couldnt play past 5 hours, but a few ppl say its good. If nothing else, pirate it and try out.
>NotR is amazing
>vanilla is shit
stop parroting.
based and gothicpilled
Elex is their best hobo simulator to date.
If you like the beginning portions of PB games where your super weak its great.
If you dislike them, then dont even bother with Elex.
>If you ever play Risen, don't even consider playing as a mage.
Low testosterone pleb. Getting caught and making a name for yourself is the only true way to play risen
Nigga you can't become mage if you get caught.
What? I only remember dropping the game after I discovered how puny and boring magic was after 15 hours of sucking every mage's dick, just to have the privilege to literally shoot skittles.
The Nameless was too powerful at the end of 2.
I'm still pissed the bow skill only functions at skill level 10.
That's crystal magic, Inquisitors have access to that as well. But only mages can use rune magic without making a consumable scroll.
Rune magic is ludicrously powerful late game, you have access to insane buffs, healing, transforming into a powerful creature and manipulating NPCs.
I still stopped playing, because it really felt like a slap in the face.
Battlemage with crystal magic
All of these games have a hobo phase and in most games mages start off weak. Multiply that by Germany.
Bow is really good even in the first chapters with a bit of leveling. Probably the best archery implementation in series, except Gothic 3 had really fun special arrows.
Though Gothic 2 archery is my favorite, because it's basicaly a climbing simulator.
new camp... home
How's Risen 3?
>may I PASS through here
It's like a refined version of 2.
I didn't play 2 either but I heard it was shit
>completely bugged and shitty
>refined
How is Elex?
It has no fucking right being as good as it is. EVERYTHING looked like it would be a total fucking mess, from the graphics to the setting to the dated mechanics and bugs but it was really comfy. Might be a bit long and overstays its welcome but still worth playing. About as good as Risen1.
It's a PB game, with all the good and bad that entails.
>But this game reached a level of comfy and kino not a single game has done yet.
Loved the first half, the general first sweep of the island.
Legit spoilers ahead, go play the game.
Shoo.
Then they repopulate it again and force you to just go through it again to fight the same 2 enemies to access repetitive dungeons. Fucking boring.
Also there was no reason to fight a Titan. That should've been an easter egg, you equip to monocular and see the skyscraper-high fuckers outside of the island. The Inquisitor would've been a fitting and fine final boss that didn't require tossing out the mechanics for a fucking rando game of simon says.
Played all 3 Risen games and i hate the first one. Combat is dogshit even as a mage. It pretty much ruined the game for me. At least the next two games improved it, even though they managed to shit up everything else
is ELEX worth it.
How about you read the fucking thread retard.
>tfw nobody here even talk about gothic before I start shilling it here but I never played gothic
I'm sorry but I didn't have the same experience as you did. The only technical problem I experienced was a framerate issue that I fixed by editing a line in the .ini file.
I did play the game a couple years after it came out so perhaps I played a more recent patch.
2 is alright, the biggest issue I had with it was the combat and content felt a little barebones for the series.
are 2 and 3 gud?
Well go play it, it's pretty good.
You've been shilling it here since 2005?
I don't get it, maybe im easily impressed but I thought that Risen's combat was good, gets really fun to play on hard and with more weapon skills learned
can you show me a thread from 2005 where Yea Forums talks about gothic?
I wouldnt call them good, but they can be fun if you know you're going into a jank fest.
Yes. Let me just whip up my secret Yea Forums archives I've saved over the years.
>It has no fucking right being as good as it is
Elex is pretty much a game where nothing works to the point that everything somehow starts working properly again, like with the stats having no real function besides gating you off the better equipment but the game being balanced around the stats not having any further influence.
It's an alright 6/10 game with occasional 8/10 moments.
The biggest problems are that it's extremely streamlined for a PB game and that the beginning is a huge drag since you can do barely anything at the start so combat and the like feels extremely primitive.
Some stuff also gets unfairly mocked or criticised like how Angry Faggot complained that one of the earliest skills you'll learn is to kick, nevermind that the teacher explicitly tells you that he teaches you to "do a proper kick that can flip over even man-high crab monsters, not that puny little leg lifting you're accustomed to".
I honestly felt it was the best combat and magic system PB ever did. No idea how R2 and R3 ended up being so different, it couldn't just have been the MUH PIRATES meme.
R1 was also made for consoles
R2&3 were also made for PC
Wait, didn't 2 and 3 come out on consoles as well? What about Elex?
>Elex is their best hobo simulator to date.
Elex reqlly was an interesting experience as a melee without cheesing, you had to explore everything and progress the game world layer by layer for the first 30 hours before you could actually tackle the main quest... definitely not for everyone but world and quest design were easily 10/10.
>world and quest design were easily 10/10.
>want to join Outlaws
>have to do jobs for the highest ranking members in order to join
>mission of the Scrap Baron is to find out why his scrap deliveries haven't arrived yet
>find out that Clerics have taken over the scrap extraction point
>strike a deal with them that they keep sending a part of the scrap to him in exchange for keeping their operations a secret
>tell the Baron that his scrap will arrive again on-time but keep my mouth shut about the Clerics
>ten hours later
>do a random Outlaw quest for some literally who where I have to retrieve an artifact
>he tells me that he can't pay me now but offers me to come with him to the buyer of the artifact
>follow him, totally expecting to walk into a trap by that guy
>suddenly the dude gets suckerpunched to death from behind a wall
>assassin sends me the Scrap Baron's greetings
>ask the Baron just what the fuck just happened now
>he tells me that he found out about the Clerics and that he flipped a coin to decide wether to kill me or one of my "allies" as friendly reminder that you don't fuck with him
I love this game so much
>tfw ELEX 2 sometime soon
Based.
Really? Nice. With some polish I feel like Elex could actually be a good series and not just "good-for-eurojank" like based like PB usually puts out.
Hated the character design in R1.
They all looked awkward and almost like inbred.
>during a mush trip
Might have been the culprit
I am in Essen tomorrow.
The town where PB are located.
Anything i should ask them?
>The environments were definitely high in comfiness, but the combat was pretty clunky
Clunky as opposed to what? Gothic 1 and 2 have atrocious combat. Risen is the first game they made with decent combat.
Unironically powerlevels, R1/R2 protag got 2stronk.
Same reason why R1/R2 protag replaced Gothic's nameless one (Risen is in the same world and takes place after Gothic 3).
Why they are not remaking old gothic games for easy money?
Buzzwords the post.
Because they'd rather make new games and I actually praise them for it.
Modders are there to keep updating old ones visually.
Announce Elex 2.
I love Patty
Modders can't do shit anymore on this outdated engine (I know about directx12 mod but it helps only with certain things). So far none "remake made by modder" come true
The DX11 mod looks fucking amazing though, and modders CAN swap models, textures and map geometry, most just haven't bothered.
Everything related to the graphics can be changed.
The DX11 mod gives people the necessary renderer.
There's tons of texture mods already.
Most people just aren't bothering with model and map geometry mods but both are fully possible.
Also you're a shit eating toddler if you're a graphicswhore.
>tfw you lift a millstone
>painting by numbers world with hurr one square grass durr one square sand herp one square volcano derrrr one square snow
'10/10' '''''''world design'''''''
>first guy you meet is inexplicably nice to you, despite you trying to kill him for no good reason in an annoying cutscene
>that guy risks unnecessarily risks his life to bring you to his gay camp
>lord of the gay camp has no clue who you are but immediately gives you and that other guy a highly sensitive mission to find some murderer
>after simply talking to 'suspects' your character deducts all by himself that they can't be the murderers, not allowing the play to make any choice
>durrrrr the murderer was the guy that helped you at the beginning
>OMGwtfHAXX1337 what a titty twist!!1
11/10 super logical writing
not even mentioning that all of this shit has absolutely 0 influence on you, the story or the environment
srsly kys faget
