So which game's gameplay does it use? And what does it do with the stories and missions?

It's a sandbox with rng quests. It's a mod for those who were lost in the zone and don't look for a way back.

>which game's gameplay does it use?
Call of Pripyat
>what does it do with the stories and missions?
2 different modes, story and sandbox. sandbox mode has random quests you can get from almost any stalker walking around. haven't tried story yet, but i think it's a unique story.

In terms of fun factor, how does this compare to the other S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games? Like rank it along with the 3 official games.

Runs on CoP, its mostly sandbox with extra modes. Story mode is mostly the same questline of the first game but combined with all the maps.

I like it but the AI in non CoP maps is braindead. If you ever wanted Stalker to be a sandbox this is for you

It plays like CoP with a hardcore mode
There's no zoom on base ADS and your enemies have the accuracy of aimbots
To add to that you pretty much die in 2 hits by base loadouts so death is real fast
You mostly do procedural missions
Like getting shit and bringing it to people or killing random assholes.
There's an optional main story mode which mimics SoC main line bit.
I mean I'm gonna be frank, this game isn't exactly "fun" to me. It really banks on immersion, skill/knowledge, patience, and quicksaving.
That said: I have like 10+ hours in it the past week and a half I've been playing it.
So I recommend it for every S.T.A.L.K.E.R fan after playing the main games. But it may not be for everyone.

If you've already played the original/ZRP versions of the other game it's a pretty great way to get some more time out of the game.

Call of Chernobyl is mostly boring since gear progression is fucked. You can get immensely good gear in the first firefight you witness since the NPCs drop good weapons and/or armor. It's actually pretty easy. This can be alleviated by modding the hell out of Call of Chernobyl yourself or playing a total conversion (modpack) based on CoC like Anomaly or Dead Air.

tl;dr Call of Chernobyl is good as a base for other mods but not much else.

Speaking of stalker, I've always heard bad things about clear sky. Is it worth playing or should it be skipped?

worth a playthrough

Even unmodded?

just SRP to fix bugs

>haven't tried story yet, but i think it's a unique story.
story is a huge pile of shit
remember all the documents you had to get in all the real games like lab x16 or the ones in call of prypiyat? no, well then your fucked.
your sent on a fetch quest with no context. stuff like turn off the brainscorcher. did you remember that you had to hit every switch each level on the way up or the last switch doesnt work? no then you die.
lab x18 in dark valley is broken as shit and crashes constantly

you have to know what to do from the real games. Cocs story gives you no help no context and is barebones.

all it really does vs sandbox mode is make you die if you havent turned of the brainscorchers and go into certain areas.

even starting the story is broken as shit. you are supposed to talk to guide in the swamp. hes supposed to be in the clearsky base but he can wander off. he will be impossible to find if he walked off.

How playable is it without that?

This mod has potential but its now abandoned by the devs If you really want to get into the series its highly recommended to play at least the first game without mods instead. What most stalker mods do is completely overhaul the game they're based on, sometimes mutating into something else entirely and provide a different experience, so if you wanna see what stalker is really all about, play the original games in order and use only bugfixes, if you happen to like any of them and want more, then look up a mod that suits your needs and of course, you can always keep playing vanilla if you're not into big changes and enjoy the game as is.

>tl;dr Call of Chernobyl is good as a base for other mods
That's literally what it's for.

>did you remember that you had to hit every switch each level on the way up or the last switch doesnt work?
Thats for the miracle machine not the brain scorcher and that’s how it worked in ShoC.

>you are supposed to talk to guide in the swamp. hes supposed to be in the clearsky base but he can wander off. he will be impossible to find if he walked off.
Doc goes from his hidden base northwest of the bandit camp by the water down to the clearsky camp and back from time to time. He should’nt get permanently lost.

If you're a slut for The Zone, this is your fix. I only wish there were a few more structured questlines to really get you going; it can feel a bit aimless from time to time.

No.

It's a CoP mod.
It does not add the stories. It's a sandbox freeroam mod, just like The Faction War 3 on CS.

It's pretty shit to be perfectly honest.

With the latest patch, it's playable to the very end.

That being said, CS really needs all the help it can get, so I'd grab the entire Starter Pack.

It's very very bad. I even installed a bunch of mods to tone down the grenade spam but it's an absolute slog to get through, especially if you're trying to capture territories.
The final segment was so bad that, for the first time ever, I used a trainer just to godmode myself through the rest of it.
Still, it introduced some cool things to the series, though CoP really improves on it.
