Why did a lot of people think this was a really good game?
Why did a lot of people think this was a really good game?
zoomer's first fallout
Zoomers who either didn't play NV or thought it had too much text and not enough gunplay focus.
Normies
lack of quality material for an informed comparison.
Its like skyrim they did a bunch of thing right but failed as a game .Ultimatly now that the franchise as hit speed bump we probably wont see a new fallout for 5 -6 years.
zoomer's third*
This game has better gun play than previous titles but that is about it really. Its a good open world shooter game but a terrible RPG.
F1 > F2 > NV > F3 > F4 > F76
nv is the meme fallout. zoomers love it
I kinda liked Fallout 4 the first time I played it, mostly because it was fun to just explore and kill stuff, the game was very atmospheric, but the more you play the more tiresome it becomes, so much micromanagement shit I hated, I hated the using Pip Boy UI to manage inventory, I hated crafting and the painfully incremental loot system, I hated managing settlements. The only interesting thing about late game was seeing roaming Brotherhood/Minutemen fighting hostiles.
The only other positive about the game I can say is all the companions are great, Piper best waifu and Nick best bro.
>t. Todd Howard
It's not, it's pretty terrible actually. But with mods it can be somewhat fixed and made into an ok game. At least one where the fight-loot-explore-repeat loop can actually make sense within the story. Get an alt start mod, also get a mod that makes power armor super rare and a worthy reward, see graphics and music mods for atmosphere, maybe base building mods to fix the broken settlement system like Sim Settlements, companions mods... It's a deep rabbit hole but actually fun if you put the effort in.
Default Fallout 4 is total ass and Bethesda can suck cock for eternity for thinking it was good.
Except even with alt starts mods you never truly can not be the sole survivor. All role playing in Fallout 4 is dead because all major quests and all major factions eventually revolve around Shaun. You will never not be a parent looking for their son.
This is why Fallout 4 is a terrible RPG. At least Skyrim, for all its faults, has the main story disconnected from most of the major factions. A player can complete a majority of the game without ever knowing they are the dragonborn but no matter what mods you install in FO4 you will never not be the parent looking for their son.
>fun settlement building mechanics
>fun gameplay
>storyline is interesting until you reach the institution
NV suffers from too many bugs that make quests unfinishable and the game overall unplayable. Main quest is too railroaded
F2 > F1 > NV > F3 > F4 > F76
2 was more fun
Was it a good game? No.
Was it an okay game? Yes.
With modding it's reasonably fun and reasonably fun is okay with me. I've played plenty of games worse than F4.
Because its the first fallout game they played so they had nothing to compare it too
you can skip most of the main quest in nv.
>There will never be a another west coast Fallout
Why is this timeline so shit?
>storyline is interesting
bethesda games haven't had an interesting storyline in years.
This, plus too many people that played and enjoyed the other Fallouts genuinely think it's better without all that thinking or talking. They just want to shoot, loot, shoot, loot, shoot, loot all day long.
What did you expect from normalfags?
The game's designed like a skinner box, normalfags love those type of games.
>the game's designed like a skinner box
In what way?
>explore dungeon
>kill the same boring enemies
>get shiny reward
>dump shit at your base and repeat
That's literally all there is to do. The main quest is terrible, the side quests are boring and even those are lacking variety. Unless you really like building shit the only thing to do in this game is enjoy a never-ending cycle of repetition where you go through the same tedious environments to get some special item you're probably never going to use.
Skyrim is mostly the same but at least there are things to do in that game other than constantly crawling through draugr infested copy-paste dungeons for a shitty word of power and a quick dopamine release.
Isn't that basically every game?
I found F4 infuriating in how it disrespects player choice/freedom.
>Be at the institute
>Find out diamond city mayor is a synth
>I'm gonna side with BoS
>"oh cool, I'll go pop him after I blow up the institute"
>blow up institute
>go to diamond city
>go up to the mayor and unload plasma fire on him
>mayor turns out to be unkillable and merely sits down on the floor for a minute before getting back up with all his hp regenerated
>reload save and begrudgingly go elsewhere to do my victory lap
>a few ingame hours pass
>gotta go meet piper now
>oh she's now in diamond city
>arrive and see that a guard has been wounded and he says the mayor is a synth
>"no shit sherlock"
>get an official quest to go confront him now
>meet up with piper, lockpick open the door and blast him away for real
>now he actually dies becomes the game allowed it
It's great until something breaks so badly you can't progress and even going back an hour or two in saves dosen't work. It has good gameplay but it's a literal broken game like it's an alpha or some shit, the questlines always break.
normies and zoomers
Skyrim was just as bad.
Reminder that the majority of people who played it did so on consoles before mod functionality was added
If you look at it reductively, sure. But Fallout 4 has so little substance to it that it especially stands out. Like I said, it's just kill thing, get item and repeat with nothing in between.
Yep, this.
Playing bethesda games is like walking on egg shells. Doing saves every few minutes and keeping fingers crossed at all times that nothing will break and that the game wouldn't crash all of a sudden.
Makes for a very stressful experience.
Essential characters were a mistake desu
should just do what NV did and have a notification saying you failed a quest so its your own doing if you follow through with it
>Fallout 4 is a terrible RPG
the replayability is almost nonexistent due to this. only kicks i get anymore are trying out new followers as modders release them, and messing around with settlements. no reason to do any quests what so ever.
Its a game that lets you kill hundreds of hours in it. That already makes it a good game. Its terrible Fallout game and is not an RPG at all, but it does not prevent you from doing the explorationg, shooting and autistically building your settlements.
So is it a game worth playing? Yes. Is it Fallout/RPG? No.
Weird thing is they took the time to create interesting setups like Easy City Downs and couldn't go the next step to make it more than a basic 'kill everything here' location.
solid gameplay with improvements on existing systems like weapon modding
big misstep with settlements and a really poor story
still a fun game before even considering the huge mod support. games shortcoming not excused by that, but a fun game with a dumb story is better than no game at all.
It feels good until you realize 80% of the content is radiant quests and sandbox fuckery then it becomes so bad you start to look back even at 3 with Nostalgia, because at least with that they tried to have real content.
zoomers love open world crafting games with shitty waypoint quests
And that the loot system means there's no real reason to find secret or hard to reach locations. Oh look, I found three goddamn Fusion Cores in a trash can.
