I realize it would probably be kind of expensive but if they wanted to make the game a lot more enjoyable they could have a bunch of servers going with different patches going, like just every major content patch, and everything 3 months or so offer people the oppurtunity to change over to the next content patch. Course you would lose a bunch of stuff like whatever you have in the auction house goes bye bye but my point is it kinda seems like world of warcraft would benefit from having more balls in the air. Splitting the playerbase up is usually a bad idea but if you're trying to assess what people like about the game and how to improve it then you need a big sample size and they could feasibly use their entire playerbase as the sample size by just keeping track of which patch grows the fastest, dies the fastest, and maintains the largest stable playerbase, and disect what content people are doing and what content they're avoiding to really understand what people like when they move forward.
