This was the first game where me and some friends tried social engineering on the RP community of. Most were furries and other degenerate RPers in their mid 20s, so easy pickings. We would each have like 2-3 accounts, join different cliques and start drama, made mods and admins quit and have sperg outs, one of my friends learned how to catfish really well, and I practiced different accents for getting into Skype vc. It was fun for like a year and a half but then college started and we all got busy with lives... funnily enough the guy who got me into it is now studying psychology to help people. Guess the best way to fix something is knowing how to break it first.

Saying that the devs are terrible feels pretty harsh to me.
Sure they probably overextended with Starbound and promised way more than they could deliver with this particular endeavor, but in spite of it's obvious flaws it wasn't a horrible game and Chucklefish has made some really grate games while publishing even better games.

You might get some mild enjoyment from the spaceship angle and getting to fly to a different planet at will. But you won't ever see a single planet with as many points of interest as Terraria. It looked kinda fun and I enjoyed the idea of travelling to different planets but after 10 planets or so the game became super boring and repetitive. I even played it heavily modded not long ago so it had a fairly recent patch too.

From discussing an unfinished piece of garbage to floranposting to seething furfags to mudslimebashing. It can't get any more entertaining than this.

Terraria was obviously more fleshed out, the devs fell for the bait of promising the universe when they could only deliver a quarter of that, and they took so long to release 1.0 while overhyping it that they killed what chance it had of being appreciated for what it was.
Even then I enjoyed it more than terraria, but that is because I preferred the exploration in Starbound to Terraria's boss focused gameplay.
There was something nice about playing some random smuck human going around adding different races to his ship, trying to make a difference in the universe despite Earth being fucked.

I remember when heat was still a mechanic, and making a huge sky platform with Yea Forums that was covered in space heaters so we all wouldn't freeze while 5 different people serenaded everyone with instruments they'd found.

I'm still pretty disappointed how it turned out, I think everyone was expecting some kind of terraria on steroids, but all we got was a linear boring progression system, but I still think the building and general feel is comfy.

maybe the devs just expected the fanbase to mod it to playability, like with mojang.

Well the biggest issue with the exploration was that all fucking planets were the same and once you had been to a few then you'd been to them all so it fails even in that department against Terraria

I liked Starbound more than Terraria simply because Starbound's spear weapon was actually fun to use compared to Terraria. I have a thing for spear weapons.

Fair. I'll admit I am in the minority, I was just able to make more fun for myself in Starbound than I was in Terraria.
After I made my house and got 6 bosses in I was pretty much done.
Going around with a mercenary penguin and building settlements and way stations across the galaxy was enough to keep me occupied for a good few hours even in beta.
I might actually start up the game and try it with mods for once.
