They need to do this: Think of a cinematic experience like Super Metroid that's a lot longer but tell it entirely through gameplay. Make it a challenge to tell the ultimate gameplay-narrated plot. Characterize Samus through the environment she traverses in and subtle movements and reactions in it, show things happening by change in the environment, have a few data logs that are entirely non-narrative - i.e. make them seem as much as possible as something that wasn't made to tell a story or to tell the player something, forcing the player to pierce 2+2 together on his own. Use environmental cues, ruins, paintings, archeology, etc. so that the player can piece together Chozo history if he so wishes to, not the garbage Chozo memories shit. Focus all resources on crafting an environment that feels like a miniature real planet, with interacting ecosystems (something like Metroid fighting X but on a smaller scale) and these interactions having significance for the plot.
Alas, it will never happen. A) Traditional Metroid doesn't sell well B) The series was entirely butchered by Other M, irreparably C) Metroid Prime 4 will probably some kewl pew pew stuff to lure in people like Prime 1 did, it already is a massive money sinker, so obviously the game is going to be about making money.
Just be happy something like Super Metroid exists and be done with the series
