Posted this in another thread, but I feel like it's sort of obvious that DMC5's story probably got mixed around at some point, likely early on considering how cohesive the game feels anyway. I like what we got, but there's some super obvious remnants of old ideas left in the game.

Awesome. DMC5 really fixed the series. First we no longer have to deal with Dante's outright broken control scheme and design, so there's gameplay fixed. Second, Dante and Vergil are finally a family again and their arcs are resolved, so there's the story fixed. The path is clear for Nero to rule, just like the skies, and our souls.

At this point he has no relationships besides Kyrie outside of Sparda's bois. His only character-defining moments outside his family issues are based around saving Kyrie. Either they're going to keep getting Kyrie into trouble (worst option) or they're gonna continue to focus on Nero's internal struggles and have the interpersonal ones be secondary. My guess for the best way is to focus on Nero's humanity, how he was raised apart from demon world shit and sees things from a human perspective. Dante seemed to be gearing up for that in 1 and 3 but in 2, 4, and especially 5 he's the good mirror of Vergil. He's picked a side and has devoted his life to empowering himself as a means to have some type of control over the demon world. Nero actually wants a human life and is trying to understand where being a demon fits into that. Rather than seeing himself as a protector of humanity he'll see himself as a human who's capable of fighting back.

Enemy difficulty in SoS remains consistent throughout the entire thing and is hard from the beginning
bosses in SoS only begin to get hard at around chapter 11.

I thought about this, if they were dynamic it'd probably be a case of instrumental then lyrics kick in on S style because they don't have a chorus like the main battle songs, but I'd rather just hear the song as normal.

Literally spent more time with Nico than he did either the spardas or kyrie who didn't even have a model in the game lol. This was about his internal struggles that carried over from 4. Loss of credo, lost his arm, feeling inadequate throughout the game which came out on the surface as his being extra egostical (literally its all in his theme song), this also caused him to be almost childlike making poor decisions just to prove himself like brashly rushing to fight Urizen again only to fail and be further tortured by Dantes deadweight comment. However by the end of the game he starts to be more secure and confident not just on surface which results in pulling that devil trigger, and he became the adult, and the twins the children.

Which difficulty? DMD? You just barely made it for that. If it was DH, then good luck with the rest. SoS has better enemy layouts for the thing, but requires pretty much constant SSS for every fight in order to make the requirements. Remember that the best way to get style is actually time spent at that rank while in combat. So if you can get to SSS at the start of a fight, you'll get the most style possible from that. Which is why RG absolutely breaks Dante's style requirements and I'm almost sure they had accounted for using it during this mission. None of the others though requires it, so it's still pretty strange.

Personally my main desire is just to see him assimilate more devil arms.

And maybe evolve his legs to also be able to generate giant phantom limbs.

Don't do double-jumps, do enemy step. Try using Helm Splitter jump cancels to get used to it. Air Hiking instead just fucks you completely because you lose all midair movement options once you've used it and Skystar.
Also, just get used to swapping in RG to block then swapping out again.

I think he said he wasn't interested in writing another DMC if he could not write for Nero. So yeah, don't expect him to go away to begin with even if he wasn't the lead writers fave, his playstyle fills a role and at this point the game will feel lesser without his role in it, same with Dante playstyle, they can't get rid of em at this point.

Nero's role is actually perfect for DMC. It starts off with him to ease you into it and gets you prepared for Dante who goes all out, it's very well done to the point I can't imagine a DMC without this set-up.

While that's true, I guess the fact the model already exists and wouldn't require much alteration makes me think cynically that capcom would go the lazy route with the inevitable Vergil DLC.

Anything. Colored Up shots keeps enemies in place so if you do Calibur -> JC -> Shoot they'll remain the air without being knocked back by the Calibur. A basic combo can be like Calibur -> JC -> Colored up Shot -> Payline -> JC -> aerial rave.

Jump cancelling is there to easily refresh your attack actions in the air, so you generally do it right after hittin an enemy with part of your air combo (2 hits in is a good point to practice)
as soon as you enemy step, you can act out of the jump (you don't need to do the whole jumping animation), so just go right back to attacking.
go into the void and do air launcher-> attack, attack, jump asap, attack, attack, jump asap infinitely and you'll see what I mean

Star rave is mostly just for swagger. It might actually decrease your DPS by a tiny margin. The idea is Air rave > Cancel with Sky Star > Jump cancel so you refresh your sky star > Air rave. In DMC4, or if using reb/sparda in DMC5, this requires swapping TRICKSWORD kinda fast, but if using DSD you can remain in trickster the entire time.

You can also press back or to the sides as you do the sky star to get side raves and reverse raves. These provide slightly more tactical benefit, as they slightly reposition you, but the benefit is incredibly marginal. Don't feel bad if you can't do them. People fell in love with these games before inertia and sky stars where a thing. You don't have to be able to do them to be a real DMC fan. Just jump cancelling the attack over and over again gets about the same result, but shows off less APM. I wonder if you can do it with other air attacks. I don't think i've ever seen a dmc4 vid with star yamato raves.

You start out in a Final Fantasy game, then go to a cathedral in winter wonderland and down through some industrial/mad scientist laboratory before being shat out in a garish, ugly jungle. By this point Lady has been running a Devil Hunter business that has surpassed Dante. She can hold her own.

Never liked Nero. He was uninteresting in 4 apart from his "rivalry" with Dante. He still sucks in 5 and feels crammed in. He's sorta the Raiden of DMC but at least MGS games that center him always makes the plot related to his backstory and struggles. Armstrong barely got setup but his ideology is similar to Raidens.

He as a character was pretty shit in 4, but gameplay wise he's so much better in 5. Unlike V Nero feels like he fits into the gameplay styling of DMC as a series. Not that I'm saying that V isn't fun to play, I just don't think he fits in as well as Nero or Vergil did on their inclusions.

V belongs in a different game. I think the game failed to make him interesting. He's a character that aims to kill in a game about styling on your opponents. Yes, You can style on them but you're still detached from the combat and danger. It doesn't help that the summons are so easy to revive.

I agree entirely. I'd love to see Itsuno make a game entirely based around pet based combat and such but it really is a pace killer in DMC.

Nice stuff. I appreciate your use of Faust's back gunslinger and SSSS. Nice movement, no big laggy drops. DMC5 is great about making things feel and look good without requiring obscene dexterity. It's still not Kingdom Hearts tier easy, but it's reasonable for fans of DMC3 like me. Don't let anyone tell you you're playing wrong or not cool enough. Enjoy it the way you want to, make combos that you have fun doing. The real test is keeping flow during live combat anyways. not so much an individual juggle as how you engage groups and separate things from the pack and all that.

Donguri only does it twice there but i know i've seen some videos of people doing it more. I think most people don't star rave forever except as a work out/warm up. In videos it's usually just used a few times, maybe with dope side r4v3s or whatever. I'm not gonna dig through youtube for another example, but it is possible to do more than a couple in DMC5. Anyways, stay cuhrayzee friend. And once again, good job on the faust summon. People sleep on that.

My main problem with V is that he has the same problem Nero had in 4. He's missing that one something that makes him a complete character gameplaywise.
