Not to cause a Mario RPG war since that happens a lot between each RPG series nowa days but wouldn't one consider Paper Mario to have suffered more out of the 2? Like sure SMRPG got abandoned and barely gets acknowledged due to copyright issues but at least it ended on a very strong note. Paper Mario progressively went down hill and is still going with what most love about it abandoned.

That's a fandom that barely knows the meaning of the word "suffering".

Most separate the 3 different Mario RPG "series". Basically there's Super Mario RPG, Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi. They may all be RPGs based on Mario and have similarities but they all focus on different gameplay elements and have different styles to them with practically their own worlds.

Yes, they're different, but they all hit scratch the same itches, just some focus on some more than others. It's like saying Harvest Moon fans are suffering. Unless someone has a really autistic attachment to some superficial element like loving Geno too much, the niche of humorous and creative Mario RPGs has been adequately catered to, especially in comparison to even just the other games mentioned in this thread.

I don't agree at all, I play all of the Mario RPGs and love them but I'm still craving for a new Paper Mario even after playing new M&L games. I feel you're simplifying each one of them too much in this case if you think it's just being catered to with humor and I'm going to assume basic action commands. I think it's proof enough this is the case if most Mario RPG series has their own fans against each other which I see a lot.

It just got renamed (or rather de-named; they haven't chosen a new one yet) and has been off the radar for a while. They did this shortly after AM2R and Pokemon Prism got angry letters from Nintendo's lawyers. There was also a bit of drama with the composer, who ended up having a bipolar breakdown and leaving the project, but he's still letting them use the music.
