I beat the original game but i think i got a bad ending, Is there something special you should do before killing hollow knight? I noticed im just at like 78% completion but idk what else there is to do

Yes. There is a secret sequence of events you must complete to unlock a better ending.
I think after you beat hollow knight the first time, the map shows the locations of the hidden zones.

Remember that crumbled castle in the kingdom's edge? Go there and dreamnail the guard. Have fun. Acquire the kingsoul
Go to queen's garden, acquire kingsoul
Return to the abyss with complete kingsoul and obtain the hollow heart
Go defeat hollow knight again

There's a charm you can buy that removes the knockback, you can get pretty early on after you get the wall-jump.

Go the the lower right part of the area. There should be a place you need the double jump to reach. Then just follow the way as far as you can to the right.
