It's all just a laugh, It's part of the show's appeal that the two smug "intelligent" guys miss almost as much blatantly obvious stuff and make themselves look like tits. Karl's just a natural at it.
Completely unreleated to games and sorry to blogpost - but when I was about 12 I used to go on hiking holidays with my parents. We'd have about 2-3 hours driving before we got to anywhere hilly. On those journeys we used to listen to podcasts in the car as we drove through the rolling countryside, laughing along and talking about the nonsense Karl came out with. Good memories.
