At $18 a month, to net a profit, you wont be playing on hardware better than ps4 or xbone. If you wanted to merely get an original ps4 or xbone that'd be $300, and if you spread that over 16 months @ $18 then google could break even.

The xbonex and ps4pro can just barely handle dmc5 though. Gaming is already well on its way to requiring a next generation of tech to not be held back, so that's at least $300 now and then probably a $600 upgrade well before 16 months, then you're reach $1000 of tech per user paying $18 a month so now they can't turn a profit until 55 months in 2024, which would be just shy of a few years into the next console cycle about the time updated consoles are being released, so that'd be another $200 for 66 months from now in 2025.

Haven't even gotten to the utilities cost of running everything 24/7 and streaming it across the internet lmfao.

That's the issue. The government hands ISPs buckets of money with the promise that they'll install/upgrade the fiber lines and then they never do it because it's free money every year.

Bandwidth is only part of the equation. Gameplay is interactive, input -> response -> input. You can't do anything until the medium is responding to your input.

Game streaming may work in areas of high population density because the servicing hardware can be in close proximity to most people.

Data can only transmit so fast in the absolute sense. It doesn't matter whether you're senting 1 byte, or many terabytes, if it still takes 1/3rd of a second to even reach its destination, there is nearly a full second before anything responds to your input on your end.

But all it adds is another layer of suits they have to worry about wrestling creative control away. Money does not equal quality and we've seen this many, many times in AAA games. As for the consumer, it is bad for anyone that doesn't have the target platform.

Some projects need funding through exclusivity deals to even get started, though. That is really the only big plus, but that's not the majority of cases.
