>Have to choose between Rimworld of Dwarf Fortress. >Rimworld is functional and has an interface that doesn't take weeks to learn, but is shallow in comparison to DF and can get stale after a while. There isn't much to do.
>Dwarf Fortress is autism incarnate, most of the learning curve comes from dealing with the god awful interface and horrid controls, but there's so much going on that there's loads of entertainment value.
Guess I'll have to wait until DF launches on Steam with a decent fucking interface and graphics that don't force me to pause and inspect every sprite on the field.
Rimworld has better lewd mods, or it used to until the modding scene fell apart. Dwarf Fortress has z-levels, and is thus automatically the superior game purely on that fact alone. Anyway, dorf fort is easy to learn and easy to play. You just need to get used to controlling it.
Joshua Powell
>There isn't much to do. Know how I know you've never played Rimworld? There's literally thousands of mods tbat can change the game drastically.
Benjamin Morris
I just want a Dwarf Fortress themed Rimworld. I like the fantasy theme and setting, but I dislike how badly designed DF is. Rimworld games I play end with disaster or "full automation", DF games I play end with me getting mad over the game not doing what I am ordering it to do, or the UI fucking me, or it just crashing randomly.
John Moore
DF will probably never release on Steam. The learning curve (read: cliff) isn't that bad. It flatlines once you get over the initial hurdle. The wiki is really good.
Honestly DF interface isn't that bad, with the exception of certain things like military management and getting complete listings of items in your fort. Once you learn it it's actually smooth to use, so it's not inherently cumbersome.
Caleb Nguyen
Imagine being so crippled with hate that the moment someone criticizes your favorite game, you jump to its defense to make the argument "there is PLENTY to do, you just have to MOD it and ADD IN lots of other stuff people have made!"
Fuck off, retard, I'm talking about the base game.
Charles James
You do know it's literally releasing on Steam, right? Like, it has a page and everything?
Daniel Cox
There's something like that in the works. If you google "Games like Rimworld" there's some page that lists a bunch of fantasy-themed games and a few of them are about dwarves.
Connor Diaz
>DF will probably never release on Steam. user...
Asher Green
Well fuck. I fear for its future.
Luke Fisher
Toady isn't compromising anything, he's very straight forward, he says he just needs more money because of medical issues in his family. The Steam release is basically just a premium tileset with new music.
James Gonzalez
HardcoreSK mod or a custom mod collection can make Rimworld more complex than DF. Even vanilla Rimworld has more complex unit management (surgeries, morale, etc) and combat than DF.
Cooper Allen
>thinks they will ever fix DF interface
Grayson Hill
>Release Date: Time is Relative >>>>
Nicholas James
Dwarf Fortress just has a shitty control scheme and completely unintuitive systems, the actual gameplay is easy as fuck once you learn the basics.
>Implement a death corridor >Literally never worry about enemies again
Elijah Cruz
>Brainlet cant get into TUI Im Lmaoing at your life. Kek
Thomas King
>Dwarf Fortress is autism incarnate, most of the learning curve comes from dealing with the god awful interface and horrid controls, but there's so much going on that there's loads of entertainment value. I spend more time figuring out what I should bring on embark than figuring out the simple interface, also tilesets have existed since forever
Logan Gonzalez
Rimworld focuses more on the individuals. DF focuses more on the whole group. They're both good games. I've been playing DF since before Z-levels existed, and I can still enjoy Rimworld when I just want to have a smaller colony.
Hudson Wood
After playing Rimworld I refuse to go back to DF until some combat squad controls are implemented. Either native, or through dfhack. I'm so fucking sick of losing all controls the moment a dorf enters combat and then watch him walk into a group of enemies to get himself killed.
Too bad because z-level building and the whole theme of DF can be more comfy, but the combat utterly destroys it for me.
Michael Powell
DF's learning curve is overstated.
Lucas Ortiz
You can control individual pawns in Rimworld. There is nothing like this in DF.
Carson Foster
>Base game Embark somewhere interesting, or go to war with all your neighbours, it will take long to run out of stuff to do, and when you do you can download all race playable mod to do stuff with other races
Jace James
I recently had same problem and went with Dwarf Fortress again. With Dwarf Therapist, DFHack stuff and maybe stonesense it's not that bad. Rimworld is amazing but lacks the depth, variety and complexity. After several hours I'm bored of endlessly defending my base.
Jackson Gutierrez
When did you last play RW? You can now go out on expeditions and attack enemy villages. Also there is a mod with a name something like realistic ruins that adds actual player bases exported by the mod to your game full of raiders that you can siege.
Been trying to get into DF too since ive been playing Rimworld all month. I'd still be playing rimworld but there doesnt seem to be working mods for 1.0 that limit the factions tech or anything. And i can only get so much removed with the scenario editor. I really enjoy the game, but most of the colonies have ended up the same way with similar layouts and its getting a bit old.
DF though, everything is done through keys and you need to pause constantly to set up ques with the workshops and all that. Some of the designations dont make sense either. Like making channels or fortifications. There is no simple "dig" option. Just really simple things are pretty tedious to get done or even check on. You cant simply click on an animal and see why they are starving or dehydrating. Youve gotta make slopes or down stairs to dig. and up stairs to meet them or your dorfs are just fuckin stuck. Its frustrating. I like the depth and complexity, but its really hard to enjoy it when the UI and mechanics are just thrown at you. Sseth made it look so fun. And Roomcarnage makes it seem like it'd be hard to have two fortresses built the same.
Ill keep at it for now, but when work starts, i doubt ill be playing much of DF until the steam release, and thats if they make the UI a bit more user friendly. Or at the very least implement a barebones tutorial.
Nice greentext, did you forget to lurk before posting?
Blake Hughes
I have and I fucking love Kenshi. Great game, despite the bugs. It's sad to hear it won't receive any more content updates beyond fixes but, its probably one of my favorite games ever. The lore and setting are stellar.
Andrew Young
I've found that blight in plants doesn't jump 2 tiles, nor does fire. I'd leave a 2 tile road between plant patches for that reason, and in general most of my paths and corridors are 2 tiles. Not sure if this is more than an anecdote, but thats how I think it works.
Gabriel Peterson
The game will have the same interface, retard. Steam release is only a tileset and sound sense which you can both install already anyway.
Andrew Morris
Why? Kenshi is fucking garbage and the shittiest game I've ever bought. >looks like a 2002 game, but runs like shit >barely any content and feels more like an alpha >90% of the map is empty >barely any sound or music >tons of loading times >no proper way to train outside of getting your ass kicked by enemies
Thomas Gray
Honestly, good for Toady. He's done well, he deserves nice things. I hope it works out.
Aaron Thomas
You're basically just descibing Dwarf Fortress here but, alright. >looks like a 2002 game, but runs like shit Shit computer >barely any content and feels more like an alpha There's a fair chunk to do, you just have to find it. It's also up to you to decide what it is you want to do. >90% of the map is empty Full of enemies, places to explore or build bases. >barely any sound or music It has one of the best soundtracks I have ever heard and amazing ambient music. You can control how often it plays in the options. >tons of loading times Shit computer >no proper way to train outside of getting your ass kicked by enemies Welcome to Kenshi. You;d think in a Dwarf Fortress thread you'd understand the concept of 'losing is fun'.
The game literally has all of its controls laid out for you in plain text, the only convoluted thing about the game is military management, keyboard menu navigation is a million times better than having to slowly click into a billion different submenus
Charles Bell
Building walls and the like is objectively easier with a mouse. This is fact.
Ryan Jackson
The game has garbage optimization, retard. I can run any other game easily, but Kenshi runs like shit cause the devs are incompetent and rushed 1.0 without actually finishing the game.
Gavin Jones
play rimworld. when DF launches you will be ready for even more AIDS, shit. i mean, cancer
Luke Stewart
thats the problem with the game. its hard to learn. we will need to put lots of guides to teach newvags
Jaxon James
pressing b c w is faster and more efficient than clicking through three different submenus, that is objective fact
Ryan Russell
2 children fighting about opinions. great job, now go sit both on your own mounds of shit and defend it by throwing shit into each other
Ryan Cooper
I'd rather go shit on your mom's chest, she enjoys that a lot and it'd make both of us happy.
