Is this trilogy any good relative to Xenogears or Xenoblade? I never see or hear these games mentioned in any capacity leading me to believe that maybe they are mediocre?

Overall it can't touch Gears. Most of Blades is better than Saga but every Saga game is better than XB2.

I got bored by Xenosaga1 and quit. The narrative was interesting, but the gameplay was a slog. Long corridors without music, with frequent enemy encounters. I'd rather just watch all cutscenes on YouTube desu.
The cardgame was pretty cool though

Pretty much, yeah.
If you don't mind long cutscenes you should give it a shot. Music is pretty great too.
Narratively they're great (except for Xenosaga 2)
Gameplay wise, they're run of the mill JRPGs that don't do anything special.
Takahashi and Soraya poured more soul into Xenosaga's story and characters than they did anything else and it shows.
Xenosaga 1's enjoyable, Xenosaga 2 is really bad, Xenosaga 3 is arguably the best Xeno game for the story.
XB2 is better than Saga 1 and 2.
Is it about the universe? If so that is mature and bad-ass
Episode 3 is the best Xeno game. 1 is just okay, 2 is garbage.

Xenosaga 3 is by far the best and what the whole series should have been. No idea why Shion suddenly goes maximum thot but the battle system is pure kino.

they're the weakest of the xeno games, the production of these was several times more fucked up than gears. Saga 3 is the best but still worse than gears/blade games. Only bother if you're a xeno fan who want more
It's literally emulating NGE's static shots towards the ending part of that. Gears is literally the NGE of vidya, it did that intentionally
