There's a novice teaching building right before your first dungeon that teaches you the basics of your role, it also rewards you with some good items so it's worth doing regardless.

Flare is an AOE attack and should only be used as such. NEVER use it on single target.
When you've got 4+ targets, you should spam Fire 2 until you're out of mana, then finish with Flare and swap to Ice mode with Transpose.
When you've got enhanced Umbral Ice, you can do 3 Flares in a row.

The 3 people on /vg/ that know what they're talking about are a slightly better deal than staying here and getting just diet versions of all the shit parts in xivg

level roulette and alliance roulette is guaranteed 40% of exp bar at the end. not even taking into account the exp you earn after bosses and bonuses (2x exp bonus from playing preferred world, 30% bonus from preorder earrings, 10% from fc buff, etc)
msq roulette is more than half of your exp bar just to alt tab shitpost here for 40 mins.

that's about 2-3 levels per day for about an hour of playing. if you want to talk about slow leveling, try PSOBB where it took 2 weeks of NEETing it up all day just to go from level 195 to 196.

My buddy was seething at that, he wanted Beastmaster as an actual job since he likes pet classes in other games.

Everyone against the genderlock seems to be entirely inflating the negative impact it could potentially have, when tons of decisions implemented into this game can be perceived to have the same or larger negative impact yet they're still added.

I also think people overlook some of the benefits to them doing a gender lock from a narrative/world building perspective. We haven't seen the majority of the lands of planet, each area is going to have its collection of races that inhabit it. For example, we are likely heading in Ilsabard in the future. Which is a great landmass likely filled with plenty of new races we haven't heard about or seen. If we are heading there and they want to have a new player race come from these lands, they could have opted to do a temporary gender lock so they could develop assets for this new race which will inhabit these new lands we go to.

This way, we can go into these lands and meet some of the locals, experience their lore and some of their society and get to play as some of them, while later down the road we get the option to play as the other races.

This way, we can get access to these new lands, without it later being an even more jarring experience for a new player race to just pop out of the ground and be from places we have been to but never encountered them. It'd be akin to if we had gone to Othard before Au Ra were added to the game and then suddenly they added Au Ra later and they were supposed to have been from Othard the whole time.

I think the impression you get is stronger the more connected you feel to your character and the longer you have been playing, but it's also telling a story in a way that only a video game can and that is a good thing.

Gearscore autism isn't rampant in FF14 due to a combination of every fight being clearable at the item level required for entry, and those fights having a large amount of personal responsibility for every player in the party. Because a single mistake from a single person can completely wipe a fight, it's much preferable to have a good player who knows the fight with a lower item level, than a bad player with a higher item level.

actually it's sort of funny isn't modern wow kind of in the same situation because you can have a bad item titan forge on you, but keep it around and equipped for the sole purpose of upping your gear score despite.

higher ilvl didn't always mean better in vanilla wow because items sometimes had secondary effects that were either too good or broken with certain abilities. example: mortal strike used to scale really well with slow speed 2-handed weapons and arcanite reaper was one of the slowest weapons in the game. despite it being a blue quality weapon with less attack power and stats than other weapons, the scaling was too much with mortal strike because of its extremely slow speed causing it to outdamage epic quality weapons. this caused people to seek the lower ilvl weapon more than the higher ilvl one until Blizzard patched it.

Only two, Gunbreaker and Dancer. Blue Mage is a limited job added in the latest patch.

default UI with a bunch of macros that add and remove hotbars for different functions. you can just google or youtube peoples UI's and copy theres too. there's one for controller that I saw was really good by keeping track of all your cooldowns above your controller hotbar.

Yes. ALC's quests are some of the best, and the 60-70 ties in heavily with the story. It's the epilogue of 1.0's Ul'dah storyline and also gets into the effects of having a soul separated from a body.
