Does Yea Forums like roguelikes?
Does Yea Forums like roguelikes?
I do
I'm waiting for Caves of Qud release, it's been fucking awhile a few damn years
Bruh just play it rn
Personally I'm waiting for cogmind to have a reasonable price
if i wanted to look at letters i would write an essay
I think it's bad game design to frontload difficulty but also I like a game with challenge and stakes every now and then.
nah, it's better to wait for a full release
Couldn't get into cogmind. The pseudo stealth but constant attacks and parts replacement didn't do it for me
I enjoy them now and then even though I only have a single DCSS victory.
THAT was real FUN
I recently got my first caster win in DCSS. Summon ice beast carried me all game. I love how intuitive everything becomes once you have a grasp on the controls.
>win in DCSS
>Summon ice beast carried me all game
3 runes is practice mode, user. 15 runes or you didn't beat it.
I've tried out a bunch but never actually completed one.
I don't know if that's common, or if you're supposed to devote a whole lot of time to just one until you're so good at it, you win every time.
Eh, even in the more popular and casualised roguelike like DCSS people still didn't manage to win 100% of the time.
Depends but the appeal of roguelikes to me is that no matter how good you get, you're always being challenged in new ways and die pretty consistently.
>like DCSS
I really wish they would put some nethack mechanics into DCSS, it would be perfect to me
Love Doomrl, waiting for jupiter hell but something tells me it won't have the same charm. Guess nostalgia from my childhood playing doom 2 mostly. Haven't played any other roguelike in a while, I should start zhp over.
DOOMRL was my gateway roguelike.
Shit was fucking great.
I never won in Nethack, i'm pretty sure i'm doing a myriad of things wrong but i can never exactly pinpoint a cause since there are so many explanations. That also makes adapting and learning difficult, since there are times where you just get fucked by some random fuck with a wand of death. The farthest i went with valkyrie ended that way. Still salty about it.
Any general tips noone generally thinks of?
>did 15 runes with a Minotaur gladiator of Okawaru by simply auto-attacking everyone on sight while maintaining buffs.
The run started as a joke and ended in a borefest.
I fucking love them, got over 200 hours in this shit.
not roguelike! ;)
Thread is over
>there are times where you just get fucked by some random fuck with a wand of death
Yes but on the other hand you can also find a wand of wishing on level one so you know
Just kidding, anons, calm down. Keep on going with your thread. btw is this good? I've always heard it was kind of shit. The artstyle doesn't help.
That doesn't look like a roguelike to me.
I'm not some elitist who thinks roguelikes need to have permadeath but the bare fucking minimum is turn based on a square grid.
Both of those events don't have the same chance of happening, user. A fair comparison would be that the wand in the hand of that rando could be generated as a wand of wishing, but by the time you get to him, he already zapped it once or twice and provided he's not intelligent, he's wasted the charges.
I'm either getting older or getting more worn out, but I can't play them like I used to. Losing a character I was doing well with drains me too much.
nethack is one of my favorite games. shame that the nature of the genre makes it hard to talk about them without spoilers
No but I like roguelites
Too late, I'm going to go masturbate
yes
