Is Dwarf Fortress the king of autism simulator?
Is Dwarf Fortress the king of autism simulator?
Nah, that would more likely by Aurora 4X
*more likely be
nah but it sure has attracted certain people who take pride and feel superior for playing something that looks like ass and has a horrible UI and at times poorly functioning gameplay
It is once you start uncovering its potential.
At first it seems really simple until you realize that most of that simpleness comes from the biome you're in.
And the further you venture out from standard biomes the more interesting the game and the more depth of usability and dwarven behaviour you uncover.
Try carving a fort in the ice and battle melting due to warmth from your factories, or settle in a nightmare biome where the walls literally have eyes.
Spacechem is
Probably one of these too.
>tfw still no C# aurora
The reason why it's considered to be difficult and "autistic" is the way it's coded and how extremely outdated it is in pretty much every way.
>has attracted certain people who take pride and feel superior for playing something that looks like ass
imagine being this upset over people enjoying a game you don't get
Someone in here never played autism simulator in space, i guess.
dwarf fortress is one of the shallowest games ever developed. it's basically a list simulator.
Not even Dwarf Fortress can compare.
It has even boss battles and storylines.
like he said, you don't get it
The game is not that autistic, it's just the UI that is obtuse bullshit.
The community is pretty autistic though, there are people who unironically think fixing the UI would be a bad thing.
Dorf fort, even with ASCI tiles looks like something I could comfortably play and enjoy if I took the time to learn the UI.
I'm not sure where I would even start with Aurora 4X and it doesn't look like there would ever be a point where it reached enjoyment.
nope, I do.
I'd say the problem with DF is that it has all these incredibly complex simulational systems but you don't really see them much and you're instead just limited to indirectly commanding your dorfs around and the actually interesting emergent stuff is buried away in these subtle physical and mental simulations you don't really have to pay much attention to.
Toady made the game too easy, the golden age was when all these systems were overtuned and you would get tantrum spirals and destruction over the slightest shit and !!losing!! was an inevitability.
>Looks like ass
Use your fucking imagination
>horrible UI and at times poorly functioning gameplay
Its not hard to figure out, go play some CoD if DF is too complex for you
i just hate some faggot came along and ripped the entire concept and mechanics of dwarf fortress including even ripping off its own utility programs designed for it, as well as the art style of prison architect, called it a brand new game, and sold it to youtubers and casuals who now think its a hardcore game with huge depth and don't even know what dwarf fortress even is
even though dwarf fortress is really shit and arbitrary and hasn't changed much in fucking years
Fuck off toady
X3:TC sucks fucking dick. The entire "game" consists of literally just using a few scripts that play the game for you (auto turrets/trade empire) while you slowly snowball up your space stations to deathball the incredibly static universe. Boring.
there is very little depth in Rimworld
don't you fucking dare insult a god
Dont worry, trans dwarves soon :)
>no graphics
>no sounds
No, it's just shit.
>People complaining about the UI
Am I missing something? The game lists every single hotkey and command in a big menu on the side of the screen. There's almost no ambiguity as to what you can and cannot do at any given time. Theres also several different layouts you can try, every possible map viewpoint etc. It all seems pretty straight forward to me
I mean it's not pretty. But I don't see how its obtuse
The secret to successful bait is not to pretend that the strength of the game doesn't exist, but that the strength is somehow a weakness.
the game isn't deep. it has a lot of parts, but they don't amount to much.
better
that's no different from my first post, and both are equally correct. don't talk back to me.
getting worse again
eat a dick
cope incel
lmao
have sex
rock bottom
I'm right :)
It is a work in progress.
This. Most of the people calling it shallow are playing it shallow.
You see so much more shit from the world and from your dorfs when you embark in other places its not funny anymore. It opens up so much more play with the mechanics.
cope
an abortion in progress
Its idiots user.
Its always idiots.
Rimworld is very shallow and boring though. Especially due to the devs refusal to acknowledge problems.
I remember once trying df and I think either the game or the guide told me to do something like "Shift and ?", and on my keyboard to make a question mark its "Shift and +", so that wasn't really possible and I didn't care enough at the time to look up a guide for my keyboard.
Hotkeys in games are generally preferable to getting good, but in the learning stages its very nice to have mouse controls and over time going over to hotkeys.
I'll get around to playing and learning it eventually though
>takes the good from a game
>fixes the bad
>makes tons of money
Why be mad? Rimworld is better than Dwarf Fortress. Have fun reading a 20 page manual to learn how to assign military training, DF fags.
at this point, the only way out is to pretend you're a different user, make fun of your previous posts, then try a different bait
Trans when?
gonna embark, wish me luck!
You are just proving his point.
Given the replies, it seems you are right to some extent
No you're not. You're really not.
I've seen a hammerdwarf torture a goblin kidnapper because he tried kidnapping his baby brother.
While all other hammerdwarfs would've killed the dude with one stroke he literally took his sweet ass time breaking every limb and smashing in teeth, before leaving him to die on his own.
The complexity of Dfs game figures linked with its mechanics is unmatched and you're not doing yourself any favor pretending its otherwise, when everyone who played the game, knows you're full of shit anyway.
There's literally no other game that has a depth that allows you to build and play around and with animals/figures' instincts such as this one, leading to not one simple reaction but organic reaction chains.
you need a manual to learn 3 keystrokes? yikes
cope
>get called out for acting like an idiot
>haha its those elitist right on time
yikes
none of that is deep. it's just pointless detail for no reason.
Weak.
>Excess Plump Helmet Spawn
>Taking barely any free barrels
>Bringing iron tools instead of ore, coal and an anvil
Like you are trying to do everything wrong
Yes.
cope
rw is a clusterfuck of bad and unfinished ideas though
>people need light
>cant build windows
>can't build containers and have to lay out everything on the floor because the dev is lazy
>go out of his way to copy DFs relationship system
>relatives who drop from the sky and have the only wish to be with their loved ones still walk away once rescued because poor coding
>you literally have to capture and interrogate your family until it decides to stay
>dev says this is intentional
no game this sloppy will ever be better than df. rw isnt even good.
I only embark with a few axes, picks, anvils, yaks, and war dogs
Ah I see, you're just trolling. Nevermind then.
cope
I dont think you have any idea what a "detail" even is in terms of game design.
you don't know what it means for a game to be deep, and you aren't intelligent enough to talk to me
It sure brings out the autists who are too stupid for this game. See this thread for example.
Why even bother trolling this badly? You're only wasting your own time user.
just stop responding to him you retards
Weak.
Correct. DF is an okay game but there's nothing "autistic" about, the gameplay is relatively shallow and it's not particularly difficult or complex. However, because it has a bad UI and poor controls, some players mistake it for difficulty and act like you need to be a savant to play it, when you really just need to be on the spectrum to derive continuous enjoyment from the game. It's sort of like how a lot of Yea Forums users would describe themselves as "smart but lazy", when in reality they're just lazy.
He is literally 100% correct though
Dwarf Fortress is the BOTW of roguelikes
the keybinds are different for every screen for some reason. how many sets of movement keys are there? it's stuff like that that makes the ui bad
