>SXSW comes
>Only TSR is really shown off while Modern and Classic Sonic related stuff is pretty much left to the wayside
>Iizuka says the next major sonic game is in production but left it at that
I'm a bit worried to be honest. It's good that TSR is finally getting some promotion worth a damn, but no word on a future classic game by Evening Star and pretty much no info on the next Sonic Team game? That's gotta be at least a little worrying, Especially on the Taxman side of things. I thought we had a pillars system going, where's all the other stuff suddenly? I can only hope I get proven wrong in due time.
SXSW comes
Let's just hope the next Sonic game isn't boost trash.
Evening Star is such a trash name.
user... That and the Minion Wisps are the standars of Sonic now.
Well, we definitely got a huge implication we may go back to fully original, or at least more original Sonic games. When asked at the Q/A panel if they'd make another celebration game like Generations, they said they had no plans for it.
I do t know what made me more mad, the fact that they made shot like this without having the decency to announce something new or the autistic Q&A
the lack of anything new was the worst part, TSR getting more coverage was a given, but I sure didn't expect that to be literally all they did. If they were gonna show that little, they should have just left it for a twitter post or livestream instead of wasting an entire event just to mention one game.
Man fuck that faggot.
>HURR IT BE GREAT IF WE HAD CLASSIC WANKING AGAIN! IT'S BEEN A WHILE!
>Forces had fucking Green Hill (more like Sand Hill) Zone, Chemical Plant, Death Egg yet afucking again
>Sonic Mania was just a god damn thing
>Generations wasn't that long ago.
Well yeah, hopefully it means a future sonic team or whitehead game can be fully original.
I don't have much faith in Sonic. Sonic Mania was one of my favorite games until I beat Freedom Planet the other day. That game feels more in depth and fleshed out than 2D or 3D Sonic is. Going back to Mania it just feels so boring in comparison. They need to add some combat mechanics beyond jumping or curling into an enemy. And it'll be even harder in 3D, although that Spark sequel could be a good attempt.
The problem is people expect far too much from Sonic on a short notice. Literally all of these planned elements and games started at least a year and a half ago, when Forces and Mania Plus was done. SEGA is likely transitioning into a new form of constructive management. No one has considered, since Sonic Boom Fire and Ice, that SEGA has activelly let all their latest games ACTUALLY have delays to make the games better than if they didn't get delays. First Fire and Ice, then Mania, and now TSR. Maybe, just maybe, they are actually taking their time making sure what they are cooking is actually well baked and not burnt trash.
But we'll just have to see when the time comes.
Fuck off
I can only hope you're right, man
I think you're growing out of what Sonic is, user. I'm sorry to say, but yeah.
Dont worry, we will get more wisps and Lost World engine
>Literally all of these planned elements and games started at least a year and a half ago, when Forces and Mania Plus was done.
You give SEGA too much credit. They don't have history of giving any Sonic games decent development time. I would not be surprised if the announcement yesterday literally meant that they just started the planning phase the second the panel ended. The two games you cited for delays are also from outsourced studios, not internal studios. Considering Sumo's job posting mess a few months before Racing was supposed to come out, I suspect that was more due to the game literally not being fucking done instead of quality concerns. I don't trust SEGA at all.
Mania and Forces aren't that old. What's "worrying" about it? Do you expect another Sonic game to immediately fall into your lap after you finish the latest one? I don't understand this bizarre expectation with sequels. It's not just with Sonic, either.
It's quite possible whatever they're working on is going to end up half-baked trash like usual, and that's a legitimate concern, but the fact they haven't shown anything isn't concerning at all. It's only been a year and a half. Chill the fuck out.
TSR is looking better than expected. Dunno if that's intentional (They only showed footage off like 2 tracks so far) or because of the delay.
It took them 4 years to make the 3 hour shovelware that was Forces. I have no hope.
I know that the Mania devs having their own studio doesn't disqualify them from working on Sonic in the future, but I can't help but feel that they're focusing on an original IP game
Well hopefully making a follow up to Mania won't be as difficult the second time around, they have all the main assets to use now, just gotta build new stuff on top of it.
>inb4 people call the sequel a romhack because of that
>They need to add some combat mechanics beyond jumping or curling into an enemy.
Play Sonic Advance 2 friend
>tfw they make the best improvement on 2D gameplay, then pretend it never happened
Imagine where we'd be if subtle improvements and additions were made to the 2D gameplay
It could definitely be done. Megamix Mania is already incorporating secondary attacks for Tails and Knuckles for example.
I was shocked at the amount of people who honestly felt like there was going to be a new game for Sonic other than TSR for 2019. Like, maybe some ports or something, but that's all I would reasonably have expected, because I don't need a yearly release and having two subsequent big Sonic games come out so close to each other was enough to keep me busy for a good while.
Not to mention- why the fuck would we WANT another game so soon? I almost kind of hope there's no new Sonic game until about 2021, especially if it's coming from Sonic Team, so it has a decent amount of development time and gets all the polish it needs to be good and if they need to, they can actually put forth a full team of competent people for it.
>hope there's no new Sonic game until about 2021, especially if it's coming from Sonic Team, so it has a decent amount of development time and gets all the polish it needs to be good
There isn't a single Sonic game from Sonic Team that wasn't rushed out. That includes Sonic fucking 1. I don't expect that trend to change.
Fair enough I suppose. At least we'll get to race this May. The new trailers finally made me warm up a bit more to TSR.
Well they should at least do a good job of hiding it. Unleashed, Colors, and somewhat Generations at least felt cohesive enough to where if they were rushed they didn't feel like it because they were still polished games.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't release a demo for the game, because I would gladly have wasted my entire spring break playing it, but I guess it'll have to be my reward for surviving another year of college.
I agree, I played Freedom Planet in anticipation for Mania (because it looked like a Sonic game and I wanted something new) and ended up enjoying it way more. Mania is still a great game, but it definitely played it too safe.
gotta go fast
And Lost World had what might as well have been GHZ, though at least it had some unique level design elements. We haven't had a sonic game without GHZ in some capacity since like, Colors
by far my favorite face from that whole short
It's one of mine as well. Mania Adventures and TSR Overdrive are just prime material for reaction pics and I really hope that 2D animated shorts to promote future games just becomes a standard.
I mean hey, it seems to be working. It got Mania even more attention and is now getting more people to feel interested in TSR so I agree.
That's a strange case, because they do still have the teams behind the All Stars games to go back to for reference. I'm assuming that if that didn't do anywhere they just got someone from one of those two games to help out.
I'm glad it is. It's been far too long since we've had 2D animation for Sonic.
>SXSW
> TSR
>Evening Star
i can't understand a fucking word of this shit, what's going on with sonic?
>SXSW
South by Southwest, the event that occurred on Saturday
>TSR
The new Sonic racing game from Sumo that got teased a year ago and is releasing in May
>Evening Star
Mania team have their own studio now and that's the name of it
thank you translator user
>Mania team have their own studio now and that's the name of it
fuckin' sick, hope we see a mania 2, there's so much potential to be tapped there
No problem user. And I'm sure they will make Mania 2 in the future, but who knows when.
