Is it the best Fallout?
Is it the best Fallout?
yes
no
maybe
sneed
No
No. It's very good, but not the best.
i very much want to enjoy this and FO2. ive tried playing it before for about an hour but it did not grip me. is there a certain point i have to get past to really start enjoying it?
>is there a certain point i have to get past to really start enjoying it?
The Hub
i shall pursue it
Go there after you get the update from Vault 15 and do the quests in Shady Sands. I'd consider that the 'tutorial', the game really opens up after then (although, you can technically go anywhere from the start).
Fallout 3 is the best.
Fallout 1 really shines from multiple playthroughs in different styles. It’s a short game, but it’s impressive just how different it plays depending on your character.
t. odd
It's the only good fallout
fallout 2 is cut-content memefest
No.
Tactics is.
2 is so much better. Templebabbies need not apply, it's trivial to kill everything in that temple without taking damage if you understand how combat works, or to just run past everything and be out of there in less than five minutes if you don't care about the xp and items.
And then once you're out, 2 is better in every single way.
My second favourite one after Fallout 3.
I never really get the hang of it in Fallout 2.
There’s literally no downside to the Restoration Project mod. As for the memes... we’ll, there’s a lot of memes. They were called “pop culture references” back then, though.
oh yeah I was talking base-game,
fallout 2 RP is leagues better
>2 is better in every single way.
It has a worse villain and worse atmosphere. This is inarguable.
>2 is so much better
fake news, it has nothing to do with the fucking temple either where did you get that shit from
Playing it right now and it has upsides and downsides
It doesn't hold your hand with objectives so you have to remember things and look around for objects to use but a big issue is that there are not many locations to visit and companions die easily. I have this glitch where Ian only uses knives and it really sucks. Its likely the best but it has good competition with Fallout NV
I recently replayed FO2 and forgot the first boss in the game was a fucking psychic mole rat with glowing eyes that could talk. I must have memory holed that shit but it also made me realize that even with all their faults, Tactics forwards felt more grounded than 2, even the Beth titles for the most part.
It also has worse pacing, the bigger cities have way too much empty space where a lot of the time you're just running through screens from one end to another looking for a random NPC. The part where you're competing for different crime families and the ending parts of San Francisco are notorious for this. 2 is a great game, 1 is just a better tighter experience. It's one of the examples of less being more.
>worse villain
I prefer the Master to the President, or Horrigan, sure, but the Enclave as a whole are better as a villainous organisation than the Master's Mutant Army and Church.
>worse atmosphere
You'd have to clarify what you mean here for me to respond properly.
Every complaint you ever fucking hear about 2 is either cut content (F2 still has way more than double the content of F1 despite this, and isn't as ruined by cut ENDINGS) or the fucking temple and other noob holdups.
I love how you literally can't get a halfway decent gun in F2 until The Den, for example, whereas F1 hands you a shotgun right at the start if you know where to look. It's clearly a game intended for people who have played and beaten F1, which wouldn't fly nowadays but if you are one such person, it's a fantastic sequel.
>I have this glitch where Ian only uses knives
So take his knives away.
>"Wait! Surely we can talk about this!"
>"We just did. Time for talking's over."
What a fucking chad move by the devs to fuck over speechbabbies right at the end like this. Of course speech is still helpful for convincing those guys standing around outside Horrigan's door to help you, but this was a great moment.
Fallout 1 feels much more oppressive with its tone and does a much better job at showing the treacheries of the wasteland than 2 does, which too often undermines this with jokes or wacky random encounters. I suppose it also helps that it's the game that takes place closest to the bombs dropping, so the world is much less civilized. The soundtrack is also great, but so is 2's.
Don’t forget about the second mole rat that started a religion and is obsessed with cheesy poofs.
As much as I loved F2 when it came out, I really have to be in the right mood to play it these days. They REALLY cranked up the wackiness and I discover a dozen new pop culture references each playthrough.
I wish the 3D Fallout games still had boss fights. Frank Horrigan and The Master were kino.
how do i git gud at unarmed in fallout 2? i beat the boxing quests easily but for regular combat i barely do any damage unless i get eye crits, meanwhile marcus and sulik can instagib people for 10x as much damage in one burst.
I tried but he still has it
user, he literally cannot use a knife if he doesn't have one. Make sure he has no weapon drawn and then take all his shit, leaving him with a gun he can use, ammo, and stims.
Better yet install Fallout FIXT already.
Power fist counts as unarmed, and you can upgrade it.
>I wish the 3D Fallout games still had boss fights
AHEM
Only way to pose a serious threat to people in the late game with Unarmed is to either have a Power Fist/Super Power Fist (or whatever the upgraded version is called) or take the Slayer and Better Criticals perks so that you're crippling limbs with average attacks.
You'll still never catch up to the sheer damage of burst weapons, but Unarmed unironically blows Horrigan the fuck out, if you cripple all his limbs he can hardly do anything and there's some great flavour text for all the different crits.
Oh, and obviously, all this only applies if you're over 100% Unarmed (which is actually possible to achieve without putting any points into it, using just about any build).
FNV is full of boss fights what do you mean?
Ulysses, Elijah, Legate Lanius and Gobbledigook(hes optional though)
Worst Fallout character.
tactics has the best gameplay
What's wrong with him? Didn't see anything that stood out to me.
I tried again but this time I tried bartering him for it and it actually worked.
Thanks user
You're not wrong, but I don't think 2 was going for the same feel that 1 did. 1 has to try and create an oppressive, treacherous world because the basis of it is your character leaving the sterile safety of the Vault for the first time ever and being confronted with the "real world". The exposure to the brutality of the outside world is emphasized.
In 2, the "stark contrast" your character experiences is practically the opposite - their worst enemies aren't elements of nature, like the Super-Mutants arguably are to an extent, but manipulative and shady humans, from start to finish. Your character leaves the sheltered world of the tribe and instantly has people trying to take advantage of them in every settlement they arrive at. The world feels far more interconnected, at every settlement you can get the local opinion on all the other local settlements - and sometimes not-so-local ones too. Major plotlines often stretch from one side of the map to the other, so that each "city" feels like an actual part of a greater world, and interacts with its neighbours in ways other than a few caravans heading between them. I've never seen another RPG do this better.
Not him but do you think Outer Worlds is going more for a Fallout 2 route instead of 1? It sure looks like they're going for a more wacky world this time around.
>Time to go to the gun runners.
>Assfucked by three deathclaws.
>Finally get to the mother in the basement.
>Beating her
>This is it!
>.223 pistol breaks
>mfw
>Outer Worlds
Never heard of this. Not gonna pretend I know anything about it.
When you eventually get her, don't forget to destroy the eggs too.
Aimed shots at the legs are my favoured way to deal with Deathclaws.
indeed
FO2's combat fucking sucks because Black Isle cranked up enemy health to absurd levels, fucked the accuracy formula up, and kept your damage lower than it would be in FO1 for a long-ass time unless you were unarmed.
