Games like Advance Wars

I loved Advance Wars. Will I like the Fire Emblem games on GBA? I want to finally learn more about the FE characters in smash bros. Even if I still don't have Smash Ultimate

FE has RPG elements, character permadeath, degrading equipment, lots more dialogue and story. I love Advance Wars but kinda lost interest in FE. Your mileage may vary.

10 minutes? I was pretty sure it used to be 5. Or I might be remembering things wrong.

As far as what FE games to start with, the GBA ones are good, as is Path of Radiance. Make sure to play on the hardest possible difficulty though.

I would personally recommend skipping anything before 6 that isn't a remake, and in the case of 6 (Roy's game) specifically you will need to manually patch it to play it in English (pre-patched English roms tend to have a glitch that makes progress impossible past a certain chapter, I forget which). If you don't want to fuck around with that, just start with 7.

I would say play on Hard, not the hardest difficulty possible (though I really don't remember at all which games have other difficulties and whether they are a default starting option anyway). Lunatic/Maniac/whatever is a big hell no for starting the franchise or even just a specific game in the franchise.

I know my question may sound extremely retarded but how come there is a difference between patching it yourself and downloading a version someone else patched? Or all the pre-patched roms in circulation got some part corrupted when they were archived in the .rar/zip format?

8 (Sacred Stones) is a great starting point.

Marth is in the NES games 1 (Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light) and 3 (Mystery of the Emblem), and the DS remakes 11 (Shadow Dragon) and 12 (New Mystery of the Emblem).
Roy is in 6 (Binding Blade), the hardest GBA FE. 7 (Blazing Blade) is a prequel to 6, featuring Roy's dad as the main character, and Lyn (assist trophy girl) lusting after (You).
Ike is in 9 (Path of Radiance) on the Gamecube and its sequel 10 (Radiant Dawn) on the Wii, as the main character in 9 and a major supporting character in 10.
Chrom, Lucina, and Robin are all in 13 (Awakening) on the 3DS; with Chrom as the main character, Robin as a highly customizable deuteragonist, and Lucina as Chrom's time-traveling daughter.
Corrin is the highly customizable protagonist of all thee versions of 14 (Fates). Birthright is commonly considered the easiest FE, Revelation is commonly considered the most gimmicky, and Conquest is considered one of the more difficult games. Felicia is best girl.

The remaining games are the NES game 2 (Gaiden) and its 3DS remake 15 (Echoes); along with the two SNES games, 4 (Genealogy of the Holy War) and 5 (Thracia 776). Thracia is the most brutal FE game, and Genealogy is one of the most well-written. Arvis belongs in Smash.
