Prototype 1 came out ten years ago.
Was it the black guy in the sequel that killed it?
The gameplay itself was better, useless abilities like the armor and sight abilities were reworked into being useful, better events were added, useless grind/ search the glowing orbs removed, etc.
Prototype 1 came out ten years ago
Angry nigger + Alex being turned evil for stupid reasons + Prototype world/story not being explored further.
The Prototype series was dead on arrival
>Shit story. Devs realized that Alex was a straight up villain in one, so they came up with this angry guy in the sequel and it didn't pan out
>INSANELY OP, but at the same time not powerful enough, and the game finds cheap ways to create a challenge. This was done with helicopter rockets blasting you every 3 seconds
>Shit stealth. Guys don't care that you flip around like superman, and DNA detectors keep exposing you anyway
>Shit side missions
>Unbalanced powers
This series would be great with today's graphics, unfortunately Activision owns it so it will forever remain dormant.
Yeah but its fun and it looks cool when enemies go splat
1) Lack of not just charismatic characters but ANY characters at all
2) Shitty story
3) Why the fuck they forsed me to kill Alex
The only good thing i remember about the second game were these yellow ghetto districts and that's it
James was OP as fuck and wasn't as mobile as Alex. Alex's heel turn was pretty dumb. Still enjoyed the shit out of the game though. I'll never not love how livid James is at the end of the game.
>"Where's Maya?! Tell me or I'll skullfuck you and drain the answers out the hole!"
>Alex: She's going to be the Mother of a new world.
>"enough of your weird fucking rambling SHIT! GIMME BACK MY DAUGHTER!"
The funny thing is, they could easily just explain Alek's random villainy by "Oh, that's a blobby part of himself that split off and basically became its own independent clone, its not the real one".
Thats literally the only reason I never got Prototype 2. Loved the first one, saw a nigger on the cover of the sequel and never bought it.
>Devs realized that Alex was a straight up villain in one
They made the first game with this in mind, in the end he straight up calls himself a villain.
>This was done with helicopter rockets blasting you every 3 seconds
2 did it better with other shapeshifting foes but I agree with this one.
>Shit stealth. Guys don't care that you flip around like superman, and DNA detectors keep exposing you anyway
Confirmed for never played the game, soldiers literally shoot you if you even bump into them without disguising as an officer.
>Shit side missions
True.
>Unbalanced powers
The only unbalanced shit was the armor and the groundspikes, maybe the muscle mass and whip fist.
The game had pretty big potential, but thanks to angrynig that's exactly that, wasted potential.
Based starfish theory that fucking no one in Radical considered
This, mixed with shit sales and Activision and their high expectations killed the IP AND the studio.
There's also the wasted potential of a sequel where you play as Alex to hunt down any rogue doppelgangers of his.
Barry Pepper deserves more roles.
What killed it was the studio completely refused to pursue the blacklight/redlight angle which the first game was very insistent on hammering home, with Pariah being the perfect embodiment of the virus itself. They straight up said that if Mercer and Pariah ever met, it could end the world. So what do the devs do?
Turn Mercer into a mutant supremacist completely out of the blue, bring in Heller, a total nobody with an incredibly unlikable personality, and drop the Pariah angle completely. They may have improved on the game mechanically, but they utterly memed the lore.
They explained it in a comic, he basically went around trying to help the world and then some daughter betrayed her piece of crap father that was actually Mercer in disguise, he got mad and killed her and became the emo we see in the second game
I still haven't beaten Elizabeth Green in 1. Fuck that part so much.
This. The main storyline wasn't that remarkable but the lore behind it was fairly well put together. They should've gone all in with the conspiracies and Pariah but instead they decided to replace the one person that made Prototype thematically interesting and made a much safer, much less interesting sequel that ultimately killed the studio.
I do hope they bring the series back, though.
And the lack of some sort of co-op/PvP section for extra laffs.
Exactly. It was the perfect setup. Mercer realizes what he is, defeats Elizabeth Greene, helps contain the infection in New York then stops a nuke from incinerating the entire place. Having him go up against Pariah and figure him out was such a blatantly clear next step, there was literally nothing else the setting could've offered.
I think the worst part about it was all of P2 Mercer's infected lieutenants being chuckling evil people with the exact same set of powers, making you chase them across the city so you can curbstomp them. They couldn't even implement this bad story well mechanically.
>Having him go up against Pariah and figure him out was such a blatantly clear next step, there was literally nothing else the setting could've offered.
They clearly wanted to go this route at first. At least Dennis Detwiller did but Activision really thought they could turn this series into another CoD so they fired him and restructured the sequel's direction.
>make game for edgy emo kids
>put nigger as the MC for the sequel
what were they thinking? fuck people who think blacks can be goths. stay in your lane niggers
>inb4 butthurt fetishist starts spamming the thread with cherry picked goth and scene black chicks
Infamous has been silent as well ever since second son came out, and so I'm left with no decent game in the style of prototype/infamous, I dont even care if activision reboots the entire story, I just want a new prototype game or for infamous to come back to life.
Somebody's persecution complex is a tad overdeveloped.
