Starbound

What do you remember from this game Yea Forums?

Attached: 1547446277478.png (640x640, 97K)

they never finished it also no endgame and no reason to play it at all after you finished the final boss

I remember playing on launch and building a nice little house on the starting planet and then going to the next planet and realising this game discourages building shit and wants you to put all your possessions in boxes on your dumbass spaceship so I stopped playing

I remember playing it and feeling like I was robbed. Breaking sand and it caving in on me was a nice touch though.

I made a nice comfy house with auto turrets and then came to terms with the fact that I had seen and done everything in less than ten hours.

Comfy for a bit but then boring and empty as fuck.

I remember fish tits.

Fish, Plant, and Star tits and dicks

Same but with plants instead.

I played it with some friends at launch. We had fun, but by the time we made our endgame sets, we kind of ran out of things to do. We started it up again a little later after they wiped the servers, but they dropped another wipe again, so we didn't achieve much. I actually haven't played it in its current state - I might boot it up one more time, just to see what they did with it. Also, I think a monkey girl hit on me.

the tiddies and music

Yeah this. But I also felt no reason to go to other planets so I just quit.

Don't respond, Planet of the Apes gorillas are not attractive.

Teleportation and the Removal of the Survival System
freezing to death bc ur bad was great

Rho isn't who "she" claims to be.

For me it's Floran are really cute. Anyone else?

There is some limited fun there but ultimately the game feels very hollow and unfinished.

i remember it being a good concept with poor implementation

I got it for free and still feel ripped off

A bunch of digging with an annoying lip popping noise.
Convoluted controls and menus.
A really lame intro with some wheelchair bound grandma.
A bossfight in some mines that was too difficult mechanically for myself.
Really uninteresting combat.
Plant people
Robot people
Bird people

thats all i can remember. After 20 hours of gametime 2-3ish years ago.

The enemies were total ass and basically just grunted and then tried to live inside of your hitbox. That was the extent of their AI.

Everything felt the same no matter where you went.

mostly cute plants.

I remember molly trying to false flag victimhood a month after replying to and laughing at the fapfic someone made in /sbg/

The office puppy

___F___

Attached: weary wojak illuminated.jpg (645x773, 80K)

best part of the game is traveling to a new planet at light speed while playing a song on your instrument. thats the peak and the game doesnt offer anything else as good

I agree. Very cute plants.

Story?

Its great with frackin universe

Why can't it be great on it's own like Terraria?

they got an office dog, a puppy, how joyful! and then it mysteriously died and they never talked about it again, people suspect it chewed on cables in their office because they were idiots.

>Humans run some retarded space ranger friendship club instead of being a proper federalist government with modern military structure
I take it everyone at Chucklefish had bad history grades?

They actually had something that made sense (the USCM) but they retconned it at the last minute and pulled the Protectorate out of their asses

I remember YouTubers saying it would be better than terraria, then all of them deleting their videos because of the dislike spam.

I bought terraria first and I thought it was shitty. Don't see what's so great about it. Graphics are bad, nusic is shit, combat is okay and the bosses are better than starbound, but way less stuff you can build.

You have a really bad opinion.

terraria = soul
starbound = soulless

Floran were the only good thing to come from this "game".

Starbound has vastly superior graphics, music, and building. And with fu tons more shit to make.

Terraria has boss battles and events. Big whoop

most the problems with starbound basically amount to the devs going full retard right before 1.0 and making all the mechanics boring and shoehorning in a story which is the height of telling instead of showing.

that elithian races mod is neat

Some half-decent mechanics (temperature, special monster attacks, timing in combat and the building system) that ultimately got removed or stripped to the bones by a hilariously incompetent dev team who fucked up XP support on day 1. Fuck Chucklefish, the game deserved better.

Attached: 1548977077219.png (600x600, 73K)

I want to play the Frackin Universe mod but its too much for my baby brain.

Mods fix all that shit

There's a built in device that has categorized and selectable mini quests that teach you about the new shit in fu. Its completely optional so if you want to dive in you can, but if you want the game to show you how to do that shit its there.

It got retconned. The humans used to be a militaristic race that FUCKING HATED the monkey race for having superior technology.

Terraria is actually about the combat and movement, though.

Nobody really knows what starbound is about because it's about as deep as a puddle

does frackin unfuck everything the devs ruined?
I'm still a pillar of salt that the nanosuit system exists instead of just wearing equipment appropriate to the planet.

So is this game just fucking dead? It hasn't been updated for like half a year.

But the combat in terraria is shit as well. Why do people say the combat is good when its just as shit as starbound.

how far in Terraria did you get?

Attached: 1533456888706.jpg (680x918, 55K)

you expect chucklefish to continue support after declaring it 1.0? though arguably 1.0 is worse than one of the earlier builds.
I remember when there was 10 months of no updates in early access.

aaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I AM CONSTANTLY FURIOUS WHEN THIS GAME IS MENTIONED FUCK WHY DID CHUCKLESHIT HAD TO RUIN IT FUCK FUCK FUCK YOU AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Attached: 1552723677231.png (312x717, 386K)

I remmeber it had so much potential, but they got lazy and every weapon, monster and biome were badly done.

Attached: marielbound.png (312x291, 27K)

The story mode garbage fire.

the only good thing about starbound is the porn

They probably say that because terraria is a good game, and starbound has shit combat and movement.

haha i played their medieval sandbox game. it had some great building/combat but everything was laggy, like the compny had great ideas but simply left polishing the game after makaing some quick
money

>devs make the plant people violent scavenging hunters instead of peacful treehuggers like in most games
>released game tones their murderlust down significantly
>they show up in that advanced wars clone and are also neutered

Attached: 1552504881740.jpg (540x540, 26K)

Cute races and decent potential before a massive period of silence with 0 updates, followed by a disappointing final release that basically added a "story" on par with a low-rate kid's cartoon, removed some mechanics and that's about it. Also completely forgoing the unique intros and backstories each race was supposed to have in favor of throwing you on this shitty "the ultimate evil is awakening and coming except it's just waiting for you doing nothing really" quest with unskippable cutscenes as well as never implementing the race skills and for some reason making all the ship AIs identical to make everyone "equal" but was most likely a cop-out excuse for being lazy bastards. I refuse to believe anyone thought the scavenger hunts that you could do for some goodies in the hub during beta was suitable for a mandatory main storyline because of the thrilling action of checking to see if a planet has races you'll want to encounter, walking across the surface exactly once scanning shit from every structure you find, and hoping there's enough shit in there to let you progress to the next mission, which were really the only good parts of the story and they should have just focused on these if they wanted to make a fun campaign in their sandbox game. Also what the fuck the big baddie hates everyone but humans because their home village was fucked up by a group of mixed-species bandits that had at least one of each kind except for humans? On top of that sounding stupidly convenient, how the fuck does a happy mixed-species band of criminals who are OK with murdering entire villages get along mixing floran with hylotl, apemen with floran, and basically fucking anything with floran?

I love these threads because of the huge difference between people who actually got burned by Chucklefish and the zoomers who are just trying to fit in and act mad without knowing why

I like how they set up this big compelling mystery and then had some grandma just straight up tell you the answer to it in a text box.

I played it from release until now and had a great time. At the end of the day I had fun so I can't complain.

Terraria but with better graphics

also, my friends can fuck around on other planets while not interrupting my architecture projects with events

I remember my friend gifting it to me and still feeling ripped off

Mods, not really doing the story and just making a house on one planet, and that's about it.
I still mess around with building in Starbound, periodically checking out the mods and doing stuff with vanity

Not user but I've beat the game and melee and ranged are shit. Magic is more fun than either of those.

It's insane that even in 2019 Starbound is STILL the best Terraria clone despite Starbound not even being a good game. You'd think with how popular Terraria was developers would be trying to replicate its success, but the few attempts have all been abysmal. Like, Starbound is bad, but it's at least playable. Edge of Space, Planet Centauri, Crea, those games are just irredeemably terrible.

>music is shit

Attached: 1446413526514.jpg (300x300, 10K)

Yeah I miss old violent florans.
Made me showing up at their village as a Glitch sorta interesting.

Post more hylotls and floran.

The fact that there's literally zero events though never fails to piss me off.
Everything is so stagnant and boring on each planet. Same 3 quests repeating endlessly.

I agree. Shame they're stuck in Chucklefish IPs. That said, if user wanted, he could write his own work with a highly derivative race with better lore and a slightly different name.
Hmm......

I got annoyed the same (gee, thanks, Blood Moon) events would trigger in Terraria, so I felt like I wasn't losing much.
To be 100% clear, this is just the perspective of someone that primarily enjoys building shit that other people can see and make use of. So, I like giving my friends this comfy "home" before we all go deep into a boss battle, which I recall being lacking or just not as intense.

For me, it's the gasbags

Attached: yeehaw.jpg (1024x1177, 182K)

I fixed up one of those weeb houses on a comfy snow planet then had no idea what to do with it. Quit the game for good soon after.

> Two halves of an item hidden in two separate story missions
> You can trade the item to a mysterious man for a book that you can use to translate the ancient glyphs you see around the world
> The translated messages are fucking obvious shit that reveals nothing
> The glyphs on the gateway you're getting shit for so you can open it up and fight the big boss say "open this gate and fight the big boss"
> The glyphs on the mini-challenges you enter from underground doors all say "Test 1/2/3/etc."
> The end-game glyphs say "Thanks for playing"
why. fucking. bother.

>better graphics
I'll never understand this point, neither have particularly great graphics but Terraria always felt more charming to me

I just liked having more art-pixels per item yielding more detail.

You're completely correct about neither being gorgeous, it's just the newer one had slightly higher granulation on the assets and this made more detailed furniture / blocks.

This.
