Bruh they had catalogs of your accomplishments back in the 80s. Achievements aren't really anything new. The only real negative solely on achievements is that they aren't specific to a game, so your sense of pride or whatever is weirdly tied to the console/application collating the achievements. Aside from that, there's no harm. I remember the incredible satisfaction I got when finally filling the medal cases in FreeSpace 1 and 2.
