Anyone else finding the older they get, the less they want to play jrpgs and other turn based games? I still enjoy the stories etc but slogging through the repetitive battles is something I just can't be bothered to do like I did in the ps2 era. A-am I getting old bros?

I play games to turn my brain off and have fun on the days im not stuck in the wage cage.
so rpgs where i can interrupt without being punished are more my style.
in the same light, grindan games are nice too, although theyre less interruptable
I've experienced just the opposite actually. The older I get the less I want to play fast paced action games and go more towards slower paced and turn based games.
It depends on the jrpg. Stuff like the image you posted is actual trash. The genre itself is just fine.
Games like the one you posted I cannot play anymore. It’s just top tier cringe and grind fest. The characters look absolutely ridiculous and I don’t have much time for this. Now playing action games and fighting games.
This. I started playing the genre in my early teen years during the PS1 era, but I only played them occasionally. But now I'd say 80% of the games I play are JRPGs.
I've been replaying Earthbound and still find the combat fun. Having to position yourself as you encounter an enemy, the rolling HP meter, and the slight bit of strategy of how to attack makes it pretty fun. Something like Pokemon seems kind of boring now though. You just need to play games with good turn-based systems.
Maybe the problem isn't the genre then, but just the bloated shit like Trails.
No, you're not
Dev these days only cares about how to make their game sell to weeb, they don't remember what's make turn based good anymore
If Chrono Trigger just came out today it would still have some fun like it did 20 years ago
This
It's funny how Trails, a tastefulseries made by fans of Xenogears and Suikoden, shameless turned into a over-the-top third-rate Xenogears/Suikoden bootleg with Cold Steel

Chrono Trigger was never good.
Nah, I didn't have any issue with the first Sky game (only one I played besides Cold Steel).
It's a fairly laid back game I felt.
i'm just sick of slow RPGS like the old FF games. There are plenty of turn based RPGs that are fast. Cold Steel is fast, the Persona games are fast. Turn based games are fine, just glad they got rid of ATB bullshit
>suikoden
I wish
at least the trailer gives off a better impression than the OP image, the OP image makes this look like some shitty high school VN while this trailer makes it look like a jrpg
Cold Steel is one of the best JRPGs in years
Suikoden's one of the biggest inspirations for the entire Trails series, every game in the series has tons of Suikoden references or nods actually.
Suikoden inspired a lot of Falcom's newer employees of the early 00s to do what older Legend of Heroes games did, but on the scope of Suikoden.
No because all a turnbased RPG needs is good visuals and good music. If it has that, which can vary for person to person because of taste, I can play through it just fine because my visual and auditory receptors are being pleased.
Only just started Cold Steel and it does it for me, not like trails in the sky but its fine
I replay legend of the dragoon every couple years and pokemon seems to be doing fine popularity wise even though its turn based.
I like grindin games as long as they can get me to stick around past the typically slow beginning
it probably has to do with the amount of time you have.
i can't seem to find the motivation to keep playing DQ11 or vesperia.
