My job is giving me 4000 Canadian dollarydoos (~3000 USD) to buy a laptop. Desktops are not allowed because of frequent travel. Sucks, but it's free money. What laptop should I buy for gaming?
Alienware Area 51m is at the top of my list right now, anybody with personal experience using it?
Alienware used to be a meme in the early 2000s but their hardware is actually solid these days, as long as you reapply the thermal paste yourself (dell does a shit job)

raid isn't worth it really for a laptop unless you're doing work on it with data you absolutely cannot lose, like financial data with excel.

don't get that. It's massive and heavy. I suggest a MSI GS65 STEALTH. If you need RAID, I suggest getting a NAS and backing up on that. You may lose your laptop, but it's a bit harder to lose a NAS since you don't carry it with you.

i have one, its pretty fucking good the battery life is really really good for a laptop with a dedicated gpu runs really hot when playing games, but you wont be playing games unplugged anyway

Will you have to use it in a business setting, i.e. meetings and the like? Because in that case most gaming laptops with their logos and styling will make you look like a complete idiot, and you'll be very limited in your choices. The biggest gaming laptops are also the heaviest to lug around.
Consider something like the MSI GS65/GS75 (15 and 17 inches) or the Dell G7 (15 or 17 inches, black or white) with the RGB garbage turned off.
