Links were, funny enough, designed to scale back all the massive power-creep that took over Yugioh. But of course because it's a business they became their own form of creep that conveniently made everybody else's less good... unless you buy all the Links you need to be good again.
Nathaniel Nguyen
Is it worth getting back into if I dropped it during "Blaster :^)" format? If so, what's a good deck to get back in with?
Wyatt Morales
call me a boomer zoomer or whatever the fuck but this shit got too complicated after GX
Sebastian Clark
Salamangreat is a pretty simple and the top budget deck right now. Elemental dragons vs Prophecy is the last time I played. I was gonna pick the game up again but I think I'll just try out Duel Links instead
Jordan Price
Xyz's being introduced was one of the funnest things to happen to Yugioh. Too bad it got ridiculous towards the end

Why is Yea Forums still taken seriously?

It's funny you say that because basic XYZ were some of the simplest special summon cards to use, since their main mechanic was just matching star counts.
Jaxon Rogers
>fucking love yu-gi-oh

I've tried that before.

its not about being a boomer or a zoomer, you're just a retard if you can't understand the mechanics of a children's card game

okay what did I have for breakfast? Since you know what I fucking do with my time.
Hunter Cook
Duel Links doesn't have Xyz or Pendulum.

That's a trick question. You didn't had any breakfast yet.

But having said that I'm not talking about the phone app. I'm talking about that site you can play any deck with.

Two theories.
1. The OCG is ran by literal retards that refuse to ban Gandora X.
2. The Structure Deck Revolver shit will abuse the fuck out of REDMD.

Pendulum isn't underpowered if the deck needs to 5 cards banned and 1 limited.
Hudson Watson
Reading comprehension much?
Blake Carter
Pendulums were underwelming when they came out and they're even worse now because Master Rule 4 moving the pendulum scales to the actual spell and trap card row.
There's usually only 1 pendulum deck per meta that's barely competitively viable. I can't even think of a pendulum deck that won worlds yet
Luke Kelly
It's not competitively viable because it got 5 cards banned and 1 limited.
Easton Bell
And Worlds is a meme format.
Alexander Rivera
FUCK OFF REACTORFAGS I JUST FINISHED MY KARAKURI
Luke Perez
Yuigioh peaked in 2014, Nekroz format in 2015 being the last good format. I hated those trap centric formats now, but the I got my wish and I hate it.
Hunter Rivera
Yes, in general, the Pendulum summoning mechanic isn't competitively viable because the other summoning mechanics are more powerful and consistant.
Jordan Cook
>Worlds
Hey, remember that time that Infernities topped Worlds because Worlds merges both banlists together and Konami is too fucking retarded to use any of their braincells to realize that merging the banlists kills so many decks that an older barely touched deck can curvestomp everything?
Tyler Lee
It's so fucking satisfying to duel in these games. What the fucking was Konami thinking putting all the other yugioh games to handhelds with tiny screens and gamepad buttons?
Mason Hall
Pendulums were massively underwhelming during their generation. Mostly because they realized how busted synchro + pendulums were, so they were very careful to stop them from being to synergistic. Links never had that care put into them, so pendulum cards worked extremely well with link cards.
Luis Roberts
they still are pretty underwelming imo.
Jayden Robinson
The only bad one is Pendulum. Even they would have been okay if they were just cards you could use as either a monster or spell. It's the Pendulum summoning mechanic that's awful.
Gavin Barnes

you know electrumite didnt fucking exist before all these cards get banned
Landon Bailey
Astrograph, Double Iris, Joker, Starving Venom and Argent Chaos got banned because Electrumite made Pendulum too strong.
Wyatt Parker
More like electrumite worked extremely well with pendulum cards.
Gabriel Nguyen
I used to play Yu-Gi-Oh competitively for two years, quit when zoodiacs happened then links.
Game is so fucked and it's sort of depressing because I used to love playing 4 times a week
Lincoln Ross
They were banned after electrumite came out you stupid wojakposter
Nicholas Lee
Links will know fear.
Blake Lee
Since when did Duel Links have pendulum or xyz mechanics in it?
Juan Adams
>game is so complicated you just quit
Alexander White
The probably will at some point, right now they just want to see if the other cancer is preventable without firewall
So far the answer is that the ban helped, but the super cancer that was firewall let a lot of other cancer through, so now it's hard to fix everything.
Hell even chaos emperor dragon has gotten a re-release, and black magician got an errata which made it shit, so firewall will get one at some point

Fuck I miss 2011 Yugioh
>Frognarchs
>Karakuri

>Plant Synchro
>X-Sabers
>Gravekeepers

Carson Long
It's a new mechanic
The arrows represent spots that can now be fusion / link / xyz / synchro summoned into.
Special summoning from the grave does not require these arrows however
James Mitchell
The problem isn't the effect itself. Its the way it is worded.
Joshua Parker
Kojima is as much to blame for MGSV as Konami, he had years to get that project done and wasted time on bullshit like the fucking fashion line. All the stupid bullshit he has done during the Death Stranding production cycle is exactly what he did during MGSV. It isn't Konami's fault the game is a fucking mess with a shell of a plot, that's on Kojima.
Noah Jackson
Konami isn't in charge of making the Yugioh anime. And YCS Atlanta had 500+ teams of 3.
John Adams
>best era for competitiveness without degenerate FTKs and most OTKs feel earned
2014, the entirety of it
Hudson Ward
The only problem is the "monster type" part, which it clarifies as monster card type (normal + effect / fusion / link / xyz / synchro)
Basically it's a half assed skill drain that only really stops huge chains of ignitions and quick effects. It's also a semi decent hand trap prevention device
Austin Rogers
Anyone have the full of this?
Asher Morales
This
Death stranding is just going to be something between MGS4 and MGSV in terms of design but with even less gameplay and more walking around since Kojima just wants to make movies
Silent Hills would have been perfect since video game studios have always sucked at making real horror
Brody Fisher
Master Rule 4 is killing this game. I didn't even hate on pendulums when they were new. They added something to the game while actively supporting other summoning mechanics. Nowadays if your extra deck isn't 10-15 link monsters you're not playing competitively. It's so boring now.
Connor Murphy
Most hated card?
Cameron Robinson
Link is a great idea they're just too easy to get out and it makes it too hard to balance.
Austin Walker

Kevin Baker
Also Nekroz brought 2 really great budget decks with it, Ritual Beast and Yosenju.
All the Secret Forces boxes being opened to pull those stupidly shortprinted Brios and Valks made the market for RitBeast and Yosenju secret rares completely fucking flooded.
Jayden Sullivan
I think the main problem with MR4 is that duels end by the 3rd turn every time.
There's a shit ton of variety, so you can make tons of different decks work and pick your favorite making it more popular, but we're back to degeneracy not seen since the start of synchro era
Wyatt Ward
>Least fun era
>Pendulum
>the era that had the most diverse metas and archetypes so popular konami had to ban them to get people to move on
pick fucking one. Pendulum era was also BA/Nekroz/Shaddolls era and that's a top tier era full of amazing decks.
William Cruz
>game was all about card advantage
>"lol what if we made a deck that's about losing all your cards in order to +20 and stops your opponent from the playing the game"
I'm still mad that they allowed this cancer to be playable for so long.
Nolan Howard
>casual players stop playing because game is in an awful state
>the leftover players can now only play yugioh in competitive environments or just not play it at all
Dylan Ortiz
>That one dude who won a YCS with a fucking $30 deck
Any time that someone can win YCS with a deck under $300 you know you're in the golden era
Gabriel Perez
I hate MR4, but duels being decided in 1-2 turns is nothing new to MR4. Nekroz and Clowndolls would establish game in an instant if you couldn't stop them.
William Bell
Borrelsword was a mistake. It allows almost all control decks to OTK on turn 3. Guru Control and Altergeist when it was meta were the only ones that couldn't.
Casual players wouldn't care about the state of the game. They'd just play however they want to, because they're casuals.
Nicholas Ward
Imagine a battery sits in the middle of the board. It’s currently only connected to the two Extra Monster Zone. Monsters from the Extra Deck need electricity to sit on a zone, so they can only go in the Extra Monster zone because it’s connected to the battery. However when you summon a Link monster, imaging the arrows are little wires at connect the zones. Now the connected zones are getting electricity from the battery and a monster from the Extra Deck can sit on them
Sebastian Thomas
Pendulum was the era where you spent 15 minutes playing solitaire to get a OTK or two turn kill set up
Daniel Martinez
Is modern Yugioh too complicated or was old school Yugioh too simple?
Jaxon Young
>MST your backrow
hope there isn't a judge nearby mr. infernity player we all know what that "set spell" is.
Cooper Johnson
I remember I bought like 3 boxes, pulled 2 brio, 1 valk and a trish. I could have made a shit load of money, but I was so close to completing the deck that I sold my dantes and just mained Nekroz. Nekroz may have been the best deck of the format by representation, but the other decks scared the hell out of me, they had so many ways to lock me out of plays and me winning depended entirely on my skill, even just the order in which I searched my deck was the difference between winning and losing.
Angel Wood
that's link format bruh. Pendulum was the era right before that.
Jacob Cox
They needed to hit Diamond Core. The deck still essentially has 4 Maximus except that it got the added effect of “You can only control 1 face-up Maximus”
Daniel Mitchell
The number of entrances always shoot up if cheap budget decks are meta viable. Salamangreats are this era's budget deck, but before that it was Monarchs. Once a new meta deck comes out that costs thousands of dollars and budget decks aren't viable anymore, that number can easily drop off again.
Jason Bailey
No I agree it's nothing new, this insta kill shit has been going on since pre GX era.
The thing is, they fixed it. Twice. Mid synchro era set up a lot of barriers and defensive cards which made duels last longer. Mid xyz did the same to a lesser extent.
Link just made things worse. Now we're back to dimension fusion era
Jace Hughes
If you mean Nekroz pre-djinn ban, that ban was for a reason. If you meant post-djinn, that's just entirely wrong. The deck had OTK potential, but that wasn't every game, and every single deck didn't have a "I bricked or I won" 10 minute combo, so you had to actually establish a board and reasonably break through your opponent's board.
Thomas Reed
Everything pre-synchro is real yugioh
Jose Adams
LOL
Ryan Diaz
Salamangreat is only budget if you don't run Impermanence or Phantazmey. A playset of Trap Trick is almost $100.
Grayson Richardson
Zoodiac combos were pendulum era so no.
Zoodiac is prime solitaire
David Edwards
They literally made speed duel decks for you fucks
Caleb Sullivan
How is it any different than needing 15 XYZ monsters in your extra deck?
Bentley Peterson
Why are the OCG and TCG banlist different?
Tyler Thomas
Hand traps were a mistake
Master rule 5 needs to honestly needs to fix trap cards. Maybe make it so one trap can be activated the turn it's set per turn or something. The current system isn't working and actual trap cards without a hand trap effect don't work
Jacob Wilson
Cameron Turner
Fusion cards should be the only extra deck cards, everything else is HIV.
Ian Mitchell
Pendulum era was fine until halfway through. It started with things like Qli which was reasonable, but then we got Wavering Eyes and EMEM, so everything went downhill from there.
Anthony Kelly
>zoodiac
>pendulum
ah yes all those great zoodiac pendulum cards like.... and .... oh wait Zoodiac was Xyz cancer wasn't it.
Brody Morris
Nekroz otk was incredible specific and easily disruptable. Nekroz were more likely to play a couple of cards and pass a turn. Valk + Unicore could stall out 4-6 turns easily.
Elijah Long
Competitive play was ruined after PePe became a thing. Now you have to solitaire otherwise you lose.
Jacob Allen
Because Konami is a mess
Nathaniel Brown
Or they could just errata nerf them
Mason Ortiz
Different release dates for cards, TCG exclusives, Manga licencing issues outside of North America, Konami's incompetence, etc..
David Lee
Because
1. OCG includes cards not yet available in TCG
2. Both lists are based on performance for tournaments in the region. TCG banlists are very very much based on the popular YouTubers bitching about stuff.
3. There are some TCG exclusive cards that affect the banlist, though it's rare
Brayden Wright
Traps cards can activate in a appropriate response to activation of a opponents card during the turn they are set.
Jonathan Fisher
Qli was honestly kind of bullshit too. Wavering eyes was definitely cancer that never should've been printed though. Clowns were a really fun engine in shaddolls before they got their full power stuff.
Carter Wood
Zoodiac came out during the pendulum era
No one calls Armageddon Knight part of the effect monster era, he was a link era problem more than anything
Gavin Young
Because what you said was never the case in the past. You can play a fusion deck or a synchro deck in XYZ or Pendulum formats without needing a single XYZ.
If you want to play a deck that needs XYZs or even Fusions now, you bet your ass you're gonna need Links otherwise your deck won't function properly. And then at that point you're likely just playing a worse version of a typical link heavy deck. Blue-eyes goes into its extra deck maybe once or twice per game and it still needs to shoehorn in a focus on links. My extra deck for Invoked used to be 15 fusion monsters and now it's like 10 and 5 links because the links also need other links in order to make link combos.
Isaiah Richardson
You'd think Konami could do international releases in [CURRENT YEAR]. Any reason why they don't just release cards internationally instead of having to wait for a card to come over
Adrian Howard
Because XYZs didn't stop you from actually using other shit like you're implying? Because many XYZs actually supported synchro/fusion decks? Someone running an all XYZ extra deck is either focused on using them or just using them because they're free, but that's not how you HAD to play. For example, a Burning Abyss or Lightsworn player had the luxury of using both synchro and XYZ, and BA even had cheeky fusions for the hell of it.
Links actively limit other summoning mechanics just by existing.
Ryan Barnes
There are very few specific rules in both versions that are different.
Christian Thompson
Meanwhile, Magic's only introduced one major card type since its beginning. (emblems are just enchantments that nobody can touch in their own little game zone)
Anthony Lee
>/ourgirl/ is finally coming back
Jaxson Sanchez
That'd be nice.
If you go second you should be able to solemn strike your opponent if they try summoning on your turn for example
David Sanders
That's not the point at all. Hand traps don't need a buff, hand traps are a necessary evil because of how strong the rest of the game is compared to traps. If you're up for figuring out how to nerf every single card that has an effect that activates in your opponent's first turn before you can set traps, then go ahead, but it's probably not gonna make most people happy
Daniel Reyes
Parker Wilson
It probably has to do with anime rights and stuff. Anime cards are designed by people working on the anime, not by Konami. The only thing Konami does is nerf or buff those cards if they ever get released.
Josiah Cooper
to be fair Armageddon Knight is was no stranger to the F/L list even before link format. And i know Zoodiac's came in the later pendulum era, it's just tiring hearing all the "fuck pendulums" circlejerk when the most cancerous decks of the era were almost always something else. PePe was one broken deck, but people blame the entire mechanic for it.
Juan Thomas
*
Liam Davis
Hand traps are a mistake because there's no resource that limits them. On Magic you can do way more powerful stuff on the opponents turn but you're limited by mana and the opponent knows that you could have them and must play around your untapped mana.
The lack of a resource that limits your actions per turn is YuGiOh's original sin. It's also the reason they have to remake the game or add a new zone every 5~ years because everything broke again. I know part of the charm in YGO is to summon a bunch of powerful stuff really fast but there should be something that limits the ammount of cards you're able to play beforw your next turn.
Logan Kelly
Here is your archetype, bro
Evan Brooks
Nah they judge the popularity of some cards based on reception in JP to decide if rarity should change for the west and if there should be immediate ban lists (after whales dominate locals for a month or two) for TCG.
Think of it this way. Imagine a fucking amazing card comes out. Yata tier, dimension fusion tier, CED, DMoC, Firewall etc comes out. Now that shit is gonna be banned asap, and OCG bans it. But by basic TCG rules, even if it's banned the day of release in TCG, it can still be used for another month in locals and any other tournament. So with that logic, it only encourages people to buy tons and tons of packs to either get or sell the OP cards in order to basically auto win tournaments and get the prizes. Konami only wins in this way
Michael Perez
It would be cool if there was a handtrap varient of Exodia
Discard from hand to deck 5 pieces to win the game, but each piece has an effect to help you advance your plays
Colton Sanders
Pendulums as a monster type are fine. There's nothing wrong with them, though links would be fucking insanely retarded in that era so the Nerf was needed.
The problem is the era saw a shit ton of XYZ archetypes get insane.
Jackson Reyes
The floodgate keeping people from pulling 5 monsters out of their ass WAS trap cards. Now that they've made trap cards the new problem to be dealt with everything has gone to shit.
Hunter Thomas
also a big part of their problem is the card design itself, over the years cards just keep doing more and more vs doing one useful thing
Kayden Evans
yeah, although as much as i love them even i can admit Pend Mags got kind of ridiculous over the years. It's crazy how well that deck manages to rebuild itself anytime it gets hit. I never would've believed it could survive the hits to Joker, Iris, and Astrograph, but those pendulum boys just kept on swinging. Although i think nowadays people don't even really run "pendulum magicians" so much as they just run "40 good pendulums.dek"
David Bell
>tfw YGO genwunners replying angrily to this image is becoming less and less common
Adrian Foster
Guess they finally realized it was never a good game to begin with and moved on.
Hunter Stewart
Again just make all traps hand traps with some (OPT) condition or some traps able to be used turn they're set, and it's fine.
Seriously they need to spend a good amount of time just fucking overhauling trap cards since 99.9% are now useless even if 30% should be fine
Ryder Adams
Just limit spellcards to a "2 per turn"
Jose Thomas
>frognigger complaining about anime again
>muh boogyman
Juan Brown
It's more like people that kept spouting about how say COD2 was better than 4 / waw / mw2 / bo
After enough arguing they realized nostalgia doesn't make a game automatically better, nor does how difficult a weapon is to use
Juan Watson
I never got why mystic space typhoon does not stop the spells effect it got destroyed. People say it is cause it doesn't say negate, but that just seems like pedantic text semantic arguments. Like how is a destroyed card going to carry out its effect.
They then say it is also for set cards, and continuous magic cards. But that makes no sense too.
Why would MST a quick play card be specifically for set cards. Set cards pretty much always traps. It would make more sense for MST to specially be a trap destroyer then with text like "destroy a set trap card or negate a trap"
Also if you apply the logic of a magic card doesn't lose its effect when destroyed cause it doesn't say negate then you have to carry that over to continuous magic cards too.
Makes zero sense.
Connor Ward
The real cancer that killed the game was hand traps.
Alexander Morgan
Spell cards are not the fucking problem, it's monsters
Adam Smith
Most traps aren't going to be activated in response to an MST unless it's some self contained effect like Jar of Greed. MST is absolutely a backrow killer. How is the opponent going to activate a Mirror Force in response to MST?
As a quickplay spell it's also good for disrupting your opponent's plays by destroying a trap/field spell/equip/continuous spell on their turn.
>Also if you apply the logic of a magic card doesn't lose its effect when destroyed cause it doesn't say negate then you have to carry that over to continuous magic cards too.
Continuous spells have a lower effect priority than normal spells or quickplay spells. Read the rulebook sometime instead of whining about things you don't understand.
Jack Flores
When you activate a card, the effect is tbe start of the chain. The effect has been activated at that point, and the effect will be resolved. From that point on, unless the card is a permanent spell or trap, the card itself is empty and useless
You can chain to this effect with a quick play spell card, a normal trap card, or a counter trap cars.
The effect of the first card is in essence spiritual, it has left the card itself at the point of its activation, so this, any card in response will treat the effect of the initial card separate from the card itself.
Hunter Harris
The activation of a card can occur anywhere that exists grave, removed from play face up or down, or field itself. When a card activates it will activate unless specifically negated
Christopher Lewis
>weebs lap up this shit but call MTG too complicated
Liam Hall
Why the fuck do they randomly start throwing in Roman numerals.
Brandon Williams
X is a variable, it can be any number you want.
Joseph Lee
nah senpai they also introduced 20$ uncommons
>mfw goblin lore
Landon Morales
>>Plant Synchro
Bring back Plants being relevant
New Rose Dragons are cool, but I'd love something that isn't Naturia related
Are Predaplants good?
Sebastian Sullivan
Synchro was when shit started to hit the fan. The game is ridiculous at this point. Next mechanic is going to be so convoluted it makes Pendulums look easy.
Oliver Wright
>it can be any number you want
Wow what the fuck, why would anyone choose anything but 99?
Jace Smith
>Next mechanic is going to be so convoluted it makes Pendulums look easy.
Pendulums ARE easy.
Are you a nostalgia fag who refuses to learn, or just retarded?
Eli Rodriguez
> but call MTG too complicated
Literally who and where
Colton Reed
With 2011 plant cards coming back (glow up, spore, lonefire), Predaplants have pretty strong support. They're also flexible enough to fit in other engines like Gem Knight Brilliant Fusion.
Zachary Young
Because that "number" is also part of the mana cost
Logan Lewis
Because you'd have to pay 99
X is in the cost as well
You pay X + 1Green + 1White
Then that X value is applied for the effect
Jack Hughes
because i pick 99 and a half
Colton James
Based retard, it literally takes 5 minutes to read the rule book and learn how to perform any new summon added. The most confusing part of yugioh is how chain links work
David Reed
idk what he's on about that used to be literally schoolyard shit arguments idk if people say it anymore
Andrew Harris
Theres a difference between not being able to and not wanting to. Yugioh is a clusterfuck mess of a game that requires every card effect to be meticulously described instead of having fucking keywords like magic
Noah Hall
Wyatt Foster
As always, depends on the deck
There are baby's 1st deck like Burn, White Weenie, Valakut or Green Ramp
Then you get middle of the pack decks like normal Control and Midrange.
And then you get 1000IQ big dick big brain decks like Amulet Titan, Death's Shadow, Miracles or Legacy Storm where one misstep means you missed the kill, wasted all the resources, or are probably dead on board even if you had the means to not die this way that turn. There's a very high ammount of complex lines and you have to take into account and plan several turns ahead to pilot these effectively. These are the funnest things you can be doing but your ego will suffer trying to learn them well.

Even giving your opponent 1-2 free draws can lose you the game. Especially if it means you have to pretty much stop all your plays. I don't think you understand how oppressive this card is. Of course you'd know that if you actually played and understood the game.

The effect is simple but the way it has to word things that should be obvious is obnoxious
Many of those parenthesis should be treated as a given and ruled in a rulebook instead of on each card individually. Especially the effect negation parenthesis. What the hell is THAT doing on a card?
Also the game needs a big fucking errata and rules overhaul.
From:
>Neither player can activate monster effects unless something something previously activated this turn is less than the number of something something activated this turn (and parenthesis so the drooling retards know what the card is talking about)
To:
>Players can't activate more monsters effects per turn than monster card types in play.
Simple, sleek, efficient, means exactly the same and I don't want to gouge my eyes out trying to read it. Shit on MTG and their land system all you want, but the way that game is worded is beautiful, and good ideas should be copied and made the norm.
Dominic Ramirez

Asher Scott
The problem is that it creates ruling errors and risky broken shit later, if some set of cards can unintentionally get over it because it wasn't super specific. ...That or it risks blocking more than intended in some cases. Yu-Gi-Oh! itself is a very complicated game in terms of ruling, because of how many different mechanics there are for each move. Send is not the same as discarding is a simple example.

The effect of this card, triggered only during the triggered (you) phase on the turn of the player that activated it : target 1 poster on the board, call them a faggot. Targeted poster is now a faggot until end of thread, unless targeted poster is Synchro Summoned using a Pendulum Summoned Pendulum Monster Tuner, in which case Poster is now a Synchro Summoned using a Pendulum Summoned Pendulum Monster Tuner Faggot.
A card with Faggot effect, or Synchro Summoned using a Pendulum Summoned Pendulum Monster Tuner Faggot applied cannot be summoned, special summoned, or set unless opposing player controls a Planeswalker.

That's what the rules overhaul tries to fix. Sometimes you need to aknowledge that your design was bad and unintuitive but that you can change it for good. I follow both YGO and Magic and MTG has had several instances where they have said "We fucked up. Sorry. This mechanic was fucked and now keyword now works like X instead of Y" where X is essentially the same as Y as per the outcome is the same, but the rules are updated so it doesn't involve a fucked up obscure ruling that halts things and confuses players and judges alike.
This way they can print cards that work like X, like they want to, without having to specify that X is different from Y, despite being essentialy the same but different because it uses a different ruling and wording.
YGO's wording on cards seems like a future where MTG never had any rules changes and therefore needed to specify on every fucking card afterwards what did they mean by this effect and how is it different from a previous effect that does almost exactly the same but not really. Extremely specific instead of broad applications for their rules and card effects indicates a massive lack of sight while designing the game.
David Garcia
It's odd because they have some bastardized keywords but don't implement any
Some cards refer to "piercing damage", FLIP is arguably a keyword, many cards repeat the exact same text or trigger states but then instead of coming up with a word like FLIP they write the entire trigger state out
Matthew Rodriguez
How is getting rid of all the casualfags / poorfags a bad thing?

Off the top of my head, effects like when "x"-type card is sent to the graveyard special summon this card could be something like "xtype"Reincarnate
eg: When a Cyberse card is sent to the graveyard summon this card from the graveyard could be rewritten as Reincarnate:Cyberse just written on the card instead and if it's being summoned from the hand because of another card is being sent from the graveyard it could be Revenge:Cyberse

Usually, graveyard effects just don't state or say 'from the field to the GY', do they not
Not that guy either but an idea could be something like "When this card is sent to the GY'" could be rewritten as "Revenge" or "In Death" with a type of indicator for qualifiers
E. G. 4 different cards could have
Revenge
Revenge (Combat) :
Revenge (Field) :
Revenge (as Link Material):
Instead of "When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard"
or "If this card is sent to the Graveyard as Link Material"
But there's probably cards out there this keyword wouldn't work for.
You also get into questions like 'What should and shouldn't be a keyword'
Like, should "If a monster is special summoned to a zone this card points to except during the damage step" be a keyword'? Do enough cards share that?

Meta in MTG changes a lot but in a different way, they usually introduce a brand new format of play.
There's even board games.
If Standard (The last couple sets of new cards, rotates to keep fresh) sucks you can go play old cards in Modern (Everything since 2003) or get into Commander (99 cards, no doubles, and a "Commander" card making 100)
Products can be made for specific formats, new formats like Brawl (Standard + Commander) can fail, and relaunch until they get it right, old-school and super rich players can win solitaire games in one turn in Legacy & Vintage
They do occasionally introduce new card types like Sagas, Planeswalkers, Colorless, but they're never dominant in multiple formats and usually make an archetype rather than a new meta, outside of Standard where the meta changing with new cards is supposed to happen

Fur Hire used to be meta but then they Limited Wiz because of all the negation and Semi-Limited Dyna so you can't use Dyna along with a bunch of good cards like Enemy Controller.

Meta is currently Koa'ki (recently nerfed so who knows how that'll fare now), Ancient Gears (requires real money as it's in a Structure deck) and Dinosaurs+Paleozoics (requires event cards to make)

The Structure Decks that are worth it are Aster's for Destiny Heroes (really Heroes in general) and Crowler's, and Little Yugi's if you want to play Spellbooks with Silent Magician. The rest of them are mostly a waste but might have one or two decent cards.

I'm not referring to just Increase, but the other 5 that will likely be getting released alongside it. Vyon and friends being generic really only helps rather than hinders, and unlike D-HEROs still being garbage despite 3 different waves of support, nearly every single V-HERO is good.

My only problem with Magic and the main reason I play YGO is that there are 90 different formats with 2 month card rotations as opposed to just the one format with every card included. I can't even figure out what the good formats are and it feels like the whole playerbase would be divided among all of them. How do Magic players play? Are there format wars? $300 dollar decks every 3 months? I like the card design and community but it just seems inapproachable.
Cameron Diaz
Fusion is fix with contact fusion, though.
Ritual is fix by adding "total level or more"
Xyz is still easy to summon
Pendulum is Pendulum
Of those summoning requirement, Synchro is actually the most screwed over of the bunch, requiring exactly the right amount of level and the exact cards. I bet if it follows the Ritual's "total level or more", it would have been more popular and Meklord would have make a giant comeback.

They haven't made any new Red-Eyes in a while cards expect for pic related. which is just a Meh at best version of Blue-Eyes alternative white dragon.
here is it's effect:
>Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Red-Eyes" monster from your hand or field. You can only Special Summon "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon" once per turn this way. If this card is destroyed by battle, or if this card in its owner's possession is destroyed by an opponent's card effect: You can target 1 Level 7 or lower "Red-Eyes" monster in your GY, except "Red-Eyes Alternative Black Dragon"; Special Summon it, and if that Summoned monster is "Red-Eyes B. Dragon", double its original ATK.

the only Card I think that's more Cucked then Red-Eyes is DM because they legit have a Trap card that kills them if it leaves the field. Shame Red-Eyes or DM never got the same level of good support as Blue-Eyes got.
Thomas Rivera
yeah they loosened up later on, but the initial idea behind the summoning techniques were strict as hell.

You do realize that several cards have card text that say, "you must control this face up card on the field to resolve this effect," right? That's like activating rageki break to destroy a man eater bug that was flipped up and saying it can't use its because its now in the GY.

Magic's formats are easy:
Standard: Only the most recent sets, and thus the only format with rotations. Cards stay in Standard for two YEARS (not months) after they're released. Standard's banlist currently only has one card, see pic.
Modern: Anything ever printed in a Standard set since 8th Edition (ie, not the first card frame), minus Modern banlist cards.
Legacy: Any card, minus Legacy banlist cards.
Vintage: Legacy with smaller banlist, allowing more of the super powerful cards. You're only allowed one of some cards of these cards in a deck.
Commander: 100-card singleton decks, with a legendary creature as your commander.
Pauper: Only cards that have been printed at common rarity.

Is there anyway to fix yugioh so that you don't have to watch your opponent play solitaire on their first turn or pray they don't use a hand trap if you go first

The biggest change MTG had recently was changing their Planeswalker Rule to mimic Legendary Creatures and got rid of the Planeswalker Redirection rule.

Magic started in 1993, had a MASSIVE rule restructuring in 1999, then had a smaller large rules update in 2010.
Smaller, individual rules changes happen more frequently, but it's usually nothing major. Magic has also been taking a lot of strides in weeding out and smoothing out over overcomplications. For example:
>"his or her/he or she" is finally just "their/they"
>"put into the graveyard from play" is just "dies" now
>creature regeneration, which had a bunch of weird steps and conditions, has been replaced with simply "this creature is indestructible until end of turn"
Thomas Ross
Why?

>Sagas, Planeswalkers, Colorless
Sagas are just Enchantments with incremental effects. The only reason it got its own subtype and frame was to save text space on the card, it's nothing functionally new they couldn't have done normally.
The game had colourless cards since the beginning. All the Eldrazi introduced was those cards not being Artifacts. It's not a whole new type or anything.
Angel Adams
>Tribute
Monarchs. They just have the coolest designs and effects.
>Flip
Prediction Princesses with Pot of The Forbidden
>Inherent
Dunno what that is.
>Fusion
Shaddolls. I've always wanted to run a Shaddoll deck with Prediction Princess and Pot of the Forbidden, but that'd probably be way too fucking slow in today's game.
>Synchro
Naturias. Cute monsters + terrifying lockdown is tradingcardkino. I dunno how they're like the only fucking archetype to have not gotten some major legacy support.

It would have been niche and died out. Don't get me wrong, Yugioh before card games was pretty great and the anime is even better, but it wouldn't last being 00s.
Jose Myers
So did every judge just want to kill themselves when this card was released or what
Owen Taylor
I was actually, I read it when I was like 8 while the 4kids dub of the anime was still airing.
Benjamin Richardson
No because anyone who can read knows what that card does.
Alexander Howard
Red Eyes Slash Turbo was fun in Duel Links. Especially when the Buster Blader shit came out and you combined Red Eyes with Buster Blader fusions. And then since most of the warriors that supported fusions were heroes, also adding in Masked Heroes.
Red Eyes Buster Masked HERO was my favorite "what the fuck are you actually doing" deck.
Jaxson Sullivan

It's really fucking simple.

The only complicated thing about Tarmagoyf is remembering the nitty-gritty comprehensive rules details of playing a spell, so you Don't Bolt The Goyf.
John Bennett
I'm fine with that.
Ethan Rodriguez
Its actually the opposite.
The manga was close to being canceled before it started focusing more on the card game aspect.
Dominic Stewart
How the fuck do you figure that? It's a continuous series of conditional checks, not a parallel effect description.
Alexander Adams
And the only complicated thing about Boarder is that you can potentially kill a monster the opponent has and then lock yourself out of an effect activation.
It's the same fucking thing.
Andrew Ortiz
Would've been interesting to see the original intention of Kaiba with him being pretty much Jigsaw
Joshua Wright
It's still beyond me why Snoww's wording is so needlessly confusing.
>If this card was discarded by a card effect: add one "Dark World" card from your deck to your hand then, if it was discarded by your opponent's card effect, you can target one monster in your opponent's graveyard; special summon it.
Elijah Foster
I'm very confused about what this card's art is implying.
If you have Sparkman and Flame Wingman already there, why is King of the Swamp necessary.
William Gray
why are "normal" and/or "effect" not monster types? that's a variety of summon. pendulum being on there is even more reason
Josiah Turner
Popularity doesn't equal quality.
Sebastian Fisher
>Black Rose Dragon
>It's white
...
William Evans
See: If your opponent discarded it, you can target a monster in their graveyard, then the effects resolve: You add one Dark World card to your hand (this effect happens whenever it's discarded), then you can special summon the monster you targeted (this effect can only happen if it was discarded by your opponent).
Leo Martinez
Because Yugioh has always had trouble with concise rules text. That's one of the reasons I stopped playing it and stuck with Magic.
Jack Richardson
THAT'S NOT HOW ENGLISH WORKS
BAD YUGIOH, BAD GAME. GO TO YOUR ROOM.
Noah Campbell
That's a special type of card foiling that changes color depending on what angle you view the card, like a Hologram. This is what the standard version looks like.
Also it's a (Black) Rose Dragon, not a (Black Rose) Dragon.
Nolan Cook
its red
Christian Wright
It happens a lot though.
Dragon Ball, Kinnikuman, you'd be surprised how many series were close to being axed before focusing on what was popular.
Its a business, nothing more nothing less.
Angel Williams
It a Ghost Rare (which is arguably the looking rarity of any card foil I ever seen).
Aiden Perry
I'm not saying it's super complicated, I'm saying it'd be a pain in the ass for judges.
Anthony Ross
Because Effect is just there to say it has an effect. Normal Monsters are specifically main deck monsters that don't have effects. There's also Non-Effect monsters. which are Extra Deck monsters but aren't Normal monsters and also don't have Effects.
It's not, though.
Gavin Bell
The most trouble "modern" Magic had with rules text was when the players were being idiots and mentally inserting a comma into the effect.
This card says "either a player takes 6 damage, or they discard 6 deck cards", but people were playing it as "If you don't also own this card, take 6 damage and discard 6 deck cards".
Isaiah Davis
Salamgreats not being Pyro is the same problem
Bentley Reyes
But why would it be complicated? Because one moron might try and lie saying he only resolved X-1 effects that turn?
Noah Jenkins
>Links are literally just Synchros but you don't even need tuners.
No, that would be adding up levels to get the monster you want, without using a turner. Which would still be bad, because Xyz and Link's summon mechanics are too easy compared to Fusion and Synchro (not to mention their no-level shenanigans)
Chase Flores
Out of curiosity, do you think this card would work with that card?
Anthony Smith
These types of effects got reworded with rules tightening anyway, but I have to believe the misconception was part of the errata reasoning.
Christopher Russell
yugipedia.com
They have their own archetype.
William Williams
Not that guy but my eyes start to glaze over reading card effects, it drives me nuts. I can't even remember small effects let alone paragraph ones, it's so hard to comprehend the damn things half the time. I have no idea how you guys can process the information of so many cards, effects, and make an effective deck out of it. Even netdecking I suck at card games.
Noah Sullivan
I stopped playing right around when YuGiOh GX show started. Are any of the cards from basically LOB to GX packs still relevant?
Isaac Price
Going by my initial impression, no:
>Play Cost Down
>Discard Snoww
>Snoww sees its discarded
>Snoww checks if it was discarded because of an opponent
>No? Ok, skip the rest of this text.
Jonathan Cox
>MTGfags bitch and moan about Keywords for over a decade for a card game they don't play and never will play
>in that time Konami has introduced Piercing and Excavate, and shortened Graveyard to GY
Keywords wouldn't work for Yugioh because every card is different. You don't have 20 cards in the same set that all do the same thing in different ways like MtG does. They're different games and they have different rules.
Christopher Carter
Actually it doesn't work because Cost Down's discard is a cost, not an effect.
Leo Campbell
They need to, but the chances of them actually doing that? Nil. I'm convinced Trunade and TTH were a miracle at this point. Konami doesn't have the balls to make the cuts they really need to in favor of more creep and releasing bigger, better shit every month.
Nathan Sullivan
For almost every card that people complain about, half the text is explaining how you summon it.
You're right, but you're wrong! Snoww doesn't work with Cost Down because discarding Snoww is the COST to play Cost Down, not the effect of Cost Down. Snoww does, however, work with this because this card has no cost, just an effect.
