In my experience this tends to be the case I have a number of female friends in my group on campud and none of them can stand against me in games they regularly play
That being said it's still a small sample size and I'm positive there are women out there who can beat my ass to a pulp but I haven't met them.

It's more about the patience and dedication required to 100% those games not so much the skill.

I think women prefer puzzles, character interaction, and socializing in their games over the hardcore focus on meta gameplay and shit like that you see men engage in. If combat is the focus of the game, then it has to be simple and it has to have other elements that women like, such as huge emphasis on characters and social elements. This is why casual mobile puzzle games and puzzle-focused horror games like the Resident Evil games are a huge hit with women, but competitive games that are about min-maxing, keeping to yourself, and optimizing strats are a sausagefest.

Having very attractive husbandos or character archetypes that women think are attractive is also a big plus.

The most dedicated to games women I know generally stick to MMOs like WoW or FFXIV. FFXIV apparently has one of the highest female player bases of the MMOs and I believe it.

To add to this, chess players focus on being a huge autist, using optimized strategies, and knowing the game inside and out instead of figuring out the puzzle or piecing together the mystery at your own pace, like in traditional puzzle games. There's no real "puzzle" elements to it that would appeal to women. It's much closer to games that appeal to men despite having some puzzle-like elements on the surface.

Before you bring up chess puzzles, remember that you still need to know how chess works and the general "meta" of the game to succeed in them, which again, is a turn off to women. A housewife can't sit down and do some chess puzzles without really knowing how the game works beforehand, but she can for word games on her smartphone since all she needs to know are words, which everyone knows.
