Haven't played any Neptunia games because i hear they're very low-bar. I really enjoy some JRPG stuff like DQ, older Final Fantasies, Suikoden, etc.
I've thought about picking up Neptunia a few times but i always hear so much bad about it and how it's purely based on 4th wall console-wars/meta-conversation and 'cute waifus'.

Is this game worth picking up if i dont give a fuck about waifus but like solidly designed JRPG's?

Neptunia VII is a genuinely good RPG. Not great, but good. The rest range from awful to ok.

This game has a similar combat system, but better. Story is good if you like mystery stuff.

I played nep 7 and was pretty disappointed, the battles were very boring as player input had a very small impact compared to level + rng. The balance was also really poor so some bosses died from a light breeze and others killed you instantly. And the dungeon design was unremarkable.
I'm going to give this one a try because I've heard the combat is vastly improved but if it ends up sucking I will be very upset.

Corpse Party Blood Drive. Same writer as Corpse Party, and just as dumb as BD with the benefit of it not retroactively ruining an established story. Battle system is alright, not really that challenging even on hard but it's fun playing pinball with enemies.

You'd probably like it if you enjoy silly, over-the-top mysteries with some anime edge thrown in.

It's shit. The gameplay is so boring and generic you'll just put the game on easy just so you can enjoy the story but the real shitstain is that you have to play through the game twice in order to see the real ending. Even with high levels and scene skip it takes through 3 hours from start to end and only because dungeon design is terrible.
Game should have been a PC only VN with more budget toward graphic cutscenes (game does go into torture themes) rather than a RPG system that SNES games did better.

Even if you don't, you should have more than enough time to complete the game.

Guy - You play a co-worker of the girl and investigates in the real world where her body is located, how to debug the code for the MMO for the girl to progress, deal with the supernatural, and deals with a cult. Plays like a VN.

i'd say it was a mixed bag, personally. heartis palace fucking sucked (especially the second time around) and so did the shipyard, but the others were kino, especially rizaria forest.
