Nah, I won't. Psychic type was OP and the solutions to the (Ghost, Dark, Steel Bug) had problems. Ghost Types included two families and one of them was part poison which didn't help, plus it didn't get a normal damaging move until gen 2 (Shadowball, which nobody learned naturally and you had to use a TM for). Dark Types were too and far between as you mentioned, along with Steel to a degree, and Bug types with an exception (heracross) were too weak and no good bug moves were around for a long time.
>mystery is bad
ok boss, enjoy getting led around by the nose I guess.
These aren't gen 1 soo i don't know what the fuck you're even talking about.
Thanks for this, i was about to play Crystal on my 3ds. Had no idea about the 7 thing. How weird.
They shouldn't have added any types, but if it was just a ghost growlithe and a ghost flying I would be fine with it. More pkmn should be limited to one patch of grass, and time of day. Catching them all has to be earned.
thank you, this was useful information to have
They're fucking useless by the time you get them anyway. Everything is 40 levels higher.
>make ratatta normal/dark type in gen 2
>make all dark type moves count as physical
>now make murkrow and hoot hoot version exclusives
>same with houndor and growlithe
>both murkrow and houndor still found in original locations in kanto
Boom. I just saved the Dark type in Gen 2.
I only played Red back then. Which game should I play? Which version is the most fun? Any where you can actually catch them all?
>trying out new mechanics is bad
>every pokemon should be spoonfed to me
Yep, sounds like nu-gen zoomer problems
Gotta push those official guides some how.
>mystery
They aren't available until after the game is over. That's not a mystery, you just don't have access to content. It's retarded.
Is "catch em all" really too complex a concept for you?
Pretty sure OP's point is that both of those pokemon have terrible availability so if you want to use them in the same gen they appear in youre fucked, and theyre not even supposed to be super rare pokemon
retard, the point is dark type was introduced to help balance psychic but these were low level postgame shitmons that were super rare
psychic didn't get balanced until gen 3 because of retarded design like this
sure, put other johto mons as obscure super rare mons
but dark types deserved to be easier to get and earlier, while being better
It used to be that pokemon's primary appeal was finding and collecting them all and they didn't all need to be viable in battle.
How exactly do you use this?
You can only get Heracross after Whitny in Crystal? Fuck that noise.
play heartgold or soulsilver. they're a remake of the direct sequel to red and blue, but with much more added content.
There's no single pokemon game where you can catch every single pokemon, you at the very least need to trade with its paired version.
Since the DS internet functions have been discontinued you can only trade in those games through local wireless connection now, but you can still trade online in any pokemon game released on the 3DS.
Sun and Moon has this same problem though
Dhelmise is literally in a single fishing spot with a %1 rate, that is fucking horseshit
and Mareanie is exclusive to horse battles which is even worse
There were originally supposed to be a couple other dark types in the prototype, namely Girafarig was originally part dark instead of psychic and there was that bell cat
this was a game for kids
how come they made it so hard to capture certain pokemon?
I forgot, did HGSS fix some of the bad pacing issues with GS, namely there being like jack shit in Kanto and everyone has like level 40 pokemon
>Sunflora was originally Grass/Psychic
Fuck I wish that had been the case. I love Sunflora but it's single type Grass leaves it seriously lacking in a movepool.
>pinkachu
tentaquil
Murkrow and Houndour should have replaced the common shitmons all over Johto at night.
>he thinks 5% is low
i think they increased the level for most enemy traines across the board, it's still not ideal though
>Wanting to play with my favourite pokemon through the game is bad
>Persian part Dark and gets buffs
>Ninetails part Ghost
A wild Ragnarok Online has appeared!
God I played so much of this game. So very much of it. As a kid I found a copy of the first generation of games but I would never bother finishing it, I would always give up and replay this one again instead. I never got very far into the gameboy or ds games either. When it comes down to it I don't really like pokemon I just like Gold/Crystal.
Why would you think this particular spot had two rare pokemon. It wasn't a hidden area or unique. Most places you visited have the same low level pokemon in the game.
>waaaah why isn't everything on route 1
y r u mad
Because someone else at your school found it and told his friend who told your friend who then traded one to you.
Seriously this isn't some hard to discover pokemon like Charcolt or something.
>tfw that kid told you about charizards secret black evolution and it turned out he wasn't lying
finding them is irrelevant, you fight plenty through the game and can just check the dex to find where they are
pissed me off when I waited the whole game to get to catch a sneasel only to find you have to go through all of fucking kanto as well
Here's an actual calculator instead of a shitty png.
37.97.147.73
God, can you IMAGINE just how cool it would've been if shinies existed in first gen and if you would've found one? You'd have had kids from other 4th grade classes lining up to see if your black Charizard was actually real.
Play one of the romhacks that adds in all the pokemon to wild encounters and rebalances every trainer's pokemon. Those are the most fun pokemon games I've played. Like the other user said HGSS is considered to be peak or close to peak pokemon. Get the sacred gold and storm silver romhack. Seriously. You won't regret it.
Gen 5/4 shit on 2.
Can't you just use the pokedex to find their location? You should have seen them both before you actually reach that part of the game because the Rockets use them.
>still falling for fake Spaceworld shit
Theres a difference with hard to get and stupid to get.
>Still not debunked
What makes you think it's fake?
>Be dumb kid
> see houndour
> use pokedex
>not there
>whelp I guess it's not in the game
>finish elite four
>randomly going through pokedex after beating elite four
>see houndour in kanto
>oh shit
>find it after 20 encounters
>its way too low leveled to use on your team
>oh well
>Not finding the low level Houndour after your team is around lv 40-50
>Not grinding until the Houndour is on par on your team and beating the other kids in school with it
It's like you don't even like fun
When I started the game my friend traded me low level Houndour and Larvitar that he bred. So I actually got to play through the game with them on my team. It was pretty good.
I used every new pokemon no matter how dumb they were just because I thought they were the coolest shit ever because it was NEW POKEMON. Looking back gen 2 had a lot of really bad designs(and some amazing ones), and just didn't add enough new ones like I had a Stantler and Sunflora in my team for most of the game.
Sadly I moved between 3rd and 4th grade and suddenly when I started the new year in a new state and gen 2 had just come out I find out that everyone thinks(at least they claim to think) that pokemon is super uncool now.
This sounds nice.
My friend and I never traded or battled but we literally would hang out and just play
>grinding
>fun
Grinding is never fun, it certainly wasn't as a kid either.
Pineco is such unbelievable trash though
It's always Japanese developers that do this shit so they can sell guides.
Now post Munchlax in Gen 4.
Don't talk to me or my son ever again
>guides proceed to not give any help and just say something along the lines of "If you search far and wide, you might stumble upon a rare Heracross or Pineco :^)
Thanks, you gooks.
Gen 4 is far worse
>Combee is 12.5% female, Combees aren't guaranteed in Honey Trees
>Munchlax only appears in 4 Honey Trees associated to your SID, it still has a 1% chance of appearing
>you need to talk to 30 people or talk to one non-NPC person 30 times in the Underground just to unlock a Spiritomb
>no fire types other than Chimchar
>Carnivine is a bitch to capture in the Great Marsh
>you can't catch Arceus legally
bonedog and jim crow are my favorite pokemon
All opponents pokemon are level 40 above it, you'd have to experience share to train it. Murkrow is useless by that point of the game to boot.
There's no reason why they couldn't put it mid game in johto, like in the lake of rage or on the way to mahogany town.
That makes way more sense than a random patch of grass near a city.
Guy reminds the skelly on Dai Dark.
Don't forget ghost was still physical and all ghosts were special too
grinding in Gen II is super shit in general
Fortress is one thing but making Pineco usable in Gen II is such a fucking chore. He's beyond shit
>All opponents pokemon are level 40 above it
most aren't actually which is it's own problem. Tons of trainers would be 41 at best
your best bet would be E4 rushing
>plus it didn't get a normal damaging move until gen 2
Excuse me, but you're forgetting Lick existed in first gen with an impressive 20 base power to really own those psychic types.
I think most are probably still shitty, and since it's a child's turnbased RPG that's OK since it's not too challenging and using suboptimal but fun pkmn is part of both role playing and game.
actually
oh yeah I forgot about how shallow DP's dex was for fire types that the Elite 4 member who specialized in them had 5 pokemon, with only 2 being the only fire types in the game (Infernape and Rapidash)
I know you're trying to be sarcastic, but don't be retarded for 1 minute and just realize that Ghost types didn't affect Psychic types in Gen 1
>>no fire types other than Chimchar
>playing anything but platinum
I cannot endorse this post enough.
Also give fangames a look. Pokemon Reborn may be super edgy, but it's got a unique gameplay style that's in no other Pokemon game where until you leave not!Midgar pretty much every Pokemon is treated like a Legendary you have to specifically hunt down, and if you don't mind or enjoy the edginess you'll probably like the story too.
Madame don't fucking play yo
It's cute that you think Lick worked on psychic types in gen 1.
>recommending reborn
don't be mean to the poor kid
GS didn't fix shit. The elite four had their pokemon levels raised to the 40-50 range but that just introduced the new problem of now your pokemon are super underleveled in comparison by the time you get to them and there's nothing to fight to level them up other than grinding level 30s in victory road or just continually suiciding against the e4 for experience.
Best part is not only does it LITERALLY not work, it also doesn't even work in theory on any level
D/P left a pretty bad first impression before Platinum came into the picture to salvage Sinnoh. I remember Pearl being the first mainline I wasn’t stoked to finish. I didn’t even give Platinum a shot until after Gen V finished.
I can't remember the last time I played Plat so this seems like as good a time as any for a catch 'em all run.
I'm always iffy on shuffling starters though.
What are some good alternate sets?
Mean as in Reborn is a shit game or that it's really hard?
4/5th Gen with the Randomizer.
The Pokedex should have told you, but it only gave an estimate so it's still sort of bullshit.
Are you still crying about this a day later?
Both, actually.
>houndoom is one of my favorite pokemon
>cant wait to beat the league the first time with them!
>can only get him post game
I literally dropped the game because of this and didnt even know about the 5% rate which is another reason to not replay it anytime again
If you already have a finished game save then just trade yourself whatever Pokemon you want for your team and start the game with them.
you only need to bear with him for 31 levels
so, the effort of playing the whole game again? seriously?
>just beat the game brah
>Bro it's ok just have two gameboys, a link cable and two copies of the game, one of which is finished and then you can play through the main game with the mon you want!
based retard
Gen II has notoriously bad leveling though
>but making Pineco usable in Gen II is such a fucking chore
Making 80% of pokemon in gen 2 is a chore, the movepools are fucking awful for a lot of them. Some types like bug have so few move options that they're strongest STAB option is fucking Hidden Power.
I have no idea how people tolerate gen 2 today, trying to replay through them without any sort of hacks is tedious as fuck to me.
>Leveling walls like pineco
I swear the only thing worse is leveling wobaffet.
This is gonna sound retarded but I though you could find wild murkrow above olivine.
It's been forever since I played Red/Blue and am now playing it as Fire Red. Does scyther require jumping through hoops to get?
Gen I had bad movepools too, except Gen II didn't have as many good TMs. This led to things with hands being great since the Elemental Punches were attainable early on
Doesn't Magikarp have the lowest Exp rate in all games though?
>favorite pokemon is shuckle
>always conflicted about using it ingame
I love it but fuck is it annoying to train.
ur gay for never running into one.
Scyther is exclusive to FireRed (with Pinsir being LeafGreen only), getting it just requires finding it in the Safari Zone. If you're playing on an emulator you can quicksave -> quickload until the Safari Ball actually catches it. Alternatively, you can buy it in the game corner.
I will never cease being mad that they did my boy Farfetch'd dirty like that and dropped his evolution.
Foe Pikachu used Double Team
Only in Fire Red, not in Leaf Green. Found in the entrance area of the Safari Zone, with a 4% encounter rate.
Oh yeah the safari zone, almost forget about that place. Good tips. Definitely going to save scum pokeballs. I endured using 50 ultraballs to catch a Lugia 15 years ago, I ain't going through anything remotely like that shit again.
What's weird to me is that they ended up never even incorporating it in a later gen. It's not uncommon for a design to be used in a later gen, Shellos and Gastrodon exist in the files of Ruby and Sapphire for example, but never once did they think to finally let Farfetch'd not be total shit.
plus you have to fucking catch it there which is suffering
>Chansey gen I
fuck me sideways
>can't be found until you have all sixteen badges and can visit Mt. Silver
I get it's a pseudo but holy fuck, why would they allow this?
the transition from chikorita to proto bayleef and then to meganium is so bizarre
Misdrevous too
Even the fucking Gym Leaders didn't use Johto pokemon.
Holy shit only 4? I guess I can always use the attract trick. Or even that turn different directions trick. And more save scumming.
I think the worst part about it is not the 5% rate but the fact that it is post game. There's a huge difference between getting pokemons through your journey to the league than getting some new pokemon post game and grind it like hell in a tedious repetitive way only to get them to the league only with nothing else. I really have no idea what they were thinking. If it was old pokemons then I would understand but they are brand new and from the new type.
FUCK
Something I've noticed about savescumming balls after emulating gen 3 and gen 5 games: in gen 3, it's simple, if the ball will actually catch the mon is calculated the moment you throw the ball, so you can save just before throwing it and every time you reload and rethrow it'll calculate a new chance of capture until you eventually get lucky. In gen 5, the chance of capture is calculated at the start of your turn, not on ball throw, so if you quicksave just before throwing the ball and it shakes once then releases, it'll do that every time you throw it until you let the turn end, making savescuming balls a little harder since you have to do it a turn in advance.
the original games are just for nostalgia. 2nd gen games were just better.
Why the fuck are there so many pokemon threads on here? Do you shitheads realize that there's a DESIGNATED BOARD for Pokeshit?
This board has enough trash posted on it as it is.
>wanting to go to a pseudo furry board to discuss about videogames without devolving into another furry porn thread
That is insane. I don't remember going through that many hoops for one back when I played silver and almost single handedly destroyed Red with my TTar.
I don't know if this is fire red or the romhack but I got one at rock tunnel.
>REEE STOP TALKING ABOUT VIDEO GAMES ON THE VIDEO GAME BOARD!
t. newfag that wasn't there on /vp/'s creation and has no clue why it was made
Yeah but it does damage and is pretty fast too boot.
Walls do little to no damage without blowing up or stall.
That is helpful indeed. Though I've already savescummed many times and found the former to be true for fire red. Thank god. Also I remember it's an old myth that was never proven and frankly can't be proven but 15+ years later and I am still holding down+b.
>Turban
>make ONE new ghost type
>make it available only after you get all sixteen badges
>single stage shitmon, ghost in gen 2 was a physical type for some retarded reason so it can't even rely on a good STAB attack
Someone must have hated Misdrevous, perish song at least made it sort of have a niche.
This was the one that really hurt to me, that and this line. Banette sort of feels like a spiritual successor with the whole voodoo doll theme but still,
>Gen 2: in the final area underleveled as a rare spawn
>Gen 3: (FRLG) in the final area underleveled as a rare spawn
>Gen 4: (Diamond) postgame uncommon spawn with item gimmick; (Platinum) postgame daily chance at swarming, incredibly underleveled
>Gen 5: Postgame area, evolved forms spawn instead
>Gen 6: (Y) in the final area underleveled as an uncommon spawn
>Gen 7: (USUM) early game area, uncommon spawn
Pokemon die if they are killed
This is still jarring after all these years
>I don't know if this is fire red or the romhack but I got one at rock tunnel
It's the hack. In Fire Red all Johto pokemon are reserved until the Sevi Islands, even evolutions of gen 1 pokemon.
It's the romhack.
Well there's always exp share right?
Gen 1 was really weird about it's world and how the rules worked. In one pokedex entry it mentions an "Indian elephant" and Lt. Surge mentions he's American leading one to believe it was actually suppose to be the real world even.
Kanto is the name of a real region of Japan.
Well shit. I'll take that. Ttar was my main mon back then.
>vs red
>earthquake pikachu
>crunch espeon
>rock slide charizard
>hyper beam snorlax
Good times.
All native pokemon except native legendaries should be available before the elite four.
I could have swore surge or someone said about surge that he went into actual war with his pokemon. That just raises so many questions.
Gen 4-7 have all mentioned historic wars involving Pokemon. Gen 5 and 6's legendaries are both tied heavily to a couple of them.
Surge himself says that, he says that he fought in combat with his pokemon even. All the trainers you fight in his gym are under the sailor class or gentlemen, old guys, class and talk about how they're veterans from the war. It's definitely one of the weirder details of gen 1.
I guess voltorbs could make good grenades.
haha oh wow
also this guy
Really makes you think.
>In Crystal, you won't be able to find Heracross until Whitney
Is this about the posting being a 7 or what, because if not this is bullshit, I found a Heracross way before Whitney.
>Porygon2
oh fug :DD
>ratta
>not rattata
In Crystal, you can have him for the small price of 8888 coins in the Celadon Game Corner
>I like spending an hour finding a single pokemon
Holy shit
I don't recall ever getting this lucky back then
>no fire types other than Chimchar
Ponyta, but this is all pointless if you aren't an idiot and get all three starters in every gen.
>Girafarig was originally part dark instead of psychic
His design really makes a lot more sense as a Psychic/Dark.
Spiritomb is fair because of how OP he is.
Infernape saved Fire Types. Remember that, even the legendaries were garbage initially. Ho-oh specifically, was garbage until it got Brave Bird.
Are you niggers literally illiterate?
I had pokerus twice in silver and pokemon Diamond
What's wrong with Typholsion?
getting stuck with Charizard's shit stats
>Implying that isn't why Voltorb exists
It looks like a pokeball, there is no way anyone can convince me they weren't some weapon that got loose on accident.
>blaziken
wasn't good until they gave it an ability that was already broken even with Ninjask's terrible stats
Yeah, Ponyta is my favorite fire type introduced in gen 4 too!
> Gen 1 and 2 are still the best, specially in their context and gamefreak can't even compete against them
>Sinnoh/Unova babies won't accept It because they are too young to understand the context and they keep trying to defend their shitty story based games that interrupt the exploration all the fucking time and always give you one or more legendaries for free, turning these creatures in nothing special
Why are new gens fanbase so stupid
I literally won't defend this and gen 2 is my favorite gen. This is a huge flaw.
They do not exist within the files. Their cries are present but nothing else.
I had pokerus in sapphire before ever getting a shiny in white 2
>who is Arcanine
It could always potentially sweep and was a good reversal user.
The entire plot of gen 6 is to stop a nihilist from getting his hands on a pokémon-powered nuke used three thousand years ago to stop a war Hiroshima style.
Only time I got pokérus was in Fire Red. My first and only (non-Gyrados) shiny was a Pikipek in Sun.
>need 2 random pokemon in party
>need to know braille to read what to do
>need to do arbitrary tasks after that to even fight them
Name a single mon that needs as much random shit to catch
you fuck
>playing platinum
>just started and on my way to sandgem town
>shiny bidoof before I can get pokeballs
>playing soul silver
>just caught red gyarados
>surfing back to land
>shiny magikarp
>chaining shiny beldum in platinum
>takes hours but I finally get one
>they give them away to everyone 5 years later
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Female combee is actually a total non issue since you can save scum for it. The only thing that's set on honey trees is the pokemon type, the genders and stuff are all randomized on encounter. Just get a honey tree to spawn a combee and reset until it's female.
First off, fuck you and your Loss. Secondly, I gen 2 is my absolute favorite generation and I won't defend new Pokemon like Houndour and Murkrow being pushed back to very late game, but I will defend the Regi's 100%. I'm sorry you're too handicapped to catch 2 pokemon, use 2 field moves, walk around in a circle, and literally do nothing, all to get some neat rare hidden Pokemon. In the end I guess that is all too much for you to do since you were to dumbfounded to look up a braille translator.
god I hope the new games aren't as trash as sun/moon
fuck sake
SM was a massive improvement from XY, the lowest point in the franchise, so
>pokegirls
>male
What did they mean by this?
>no fire types other than Chimchar
If you were talking about Fire types introduced in gen 4, you should have said that. How is it my fault for reading your post the way you typed it?
oh fuck I forgot those even fucking existed
at least they didn't force me to watch hours of cutscenes, though
This one isn't great, but I definitely want Farftch'd to get an Evo. A samurai with the feathers becoming the robe would be great.
Unfortunately, it'll never happen.
>found the regi cave without a guide
>figured out that the text on the rocks in the middle of the room were a translation guide for the wall in the back
>because they put in the braille for commas and periods too it ended up confusing me and I still couldn't figure out the regi puzzles without a guide
still a little salty
Not my post, just pointing out how far you we're at missing the point.
What were you suppose to do to catch them?
Is there a good pokemon game I can play on my computer?
Read: It has to be good.
So you did that without a guide? My ass
Impossible to figure out unless you looked it up. Gen3 fags will defend it to death though
I never said I used a guide. I just used a braille translation sheet like this and followed the instructions. It's not hard when you try thinking
Platinum, HGSS, BW and BW2
the relicanth and wailord thing is really stupid but other than that the other steps are fine
But the instruction booklet came with a braille guide?
It's a literal children's game, grow up.
I for one miss the days when games had rarities and secrets, where everything in the game wasn't spoon-fed to you. One of the things that made Pokemon in particular so special was the lack of internet and the importance of word of mouth.
Have sex
One slightly nice thing about ORAS was that the conditions for making Regigigas spawn are really specific and obscure so when the game came out people were trying to figure out how to get him
Other than that yeah games never have any fun mystery now.
Touhou Puppet Dance Performance
>lowest point in the franchise
>X/Y
Sorry that's a weird way of spelling Black/White
all of them? lol
1% SOS-exclusive Pokemon are cancer, especially with Pokemon that don't call that much.
There is no defense, it makes no sense why Game Freak wouldn't capitalize on showing off new Pokemon in each generation, this isn't limited to Gen 2 but I'd argue that given Gen 2 segregates non-legendary Gen 2 Pokemon to the Post-Game is inexcusable. I think location wise Houndour would've fitted nicely in the Burned Tower and perhaps along Route 44 & 45, in HGSS they should've added both to the Routes to the West of Cianwood City. For Murkrow I think they should've made there be a gift one in the Team Rocket Hideout but it also should've replaced Hoothoot as the Night Bird Pokemon for the mid-game. I'd say you have it go;
Gyms 1-3 - Hoothoot
Gyms 4-6 - Murkrow
Gyms 7+ - Noctowl
>XY better than BW
no
BW was easily the shittiest addition to pokemon. not only did it start me not giving a shit about new pokemon, it also marked the beginning of the end. X/Y was miles better. Even the previous generation looked a million times better than B/W. I don't understand how they significantly downgraded from one of the best games (platinum) to that heaping pile of shit
Seriously? It says it in the fucking image. You go to the tree that corresponds with the last digit of your Trainer ID. The numbers on the map are the actual location of the trees, they're covering them up. For example, if your trainer ID ends with a 0, 1, 2 or 3, if you use Headbutt on the trees above Kurt's house, you have a chance to find a Pineco or a Heracross, depending on what version of the game you're playing.
sounds like you have the same opinion as someone who judge things by first impression. Guess what : most people realize how shallow XY was and how rich gen 5 ended up being. XY only has the shiny 3D going for it, exploration, post game, difficulty, all were fucked with XY.
>Even the previous generation looked a million times better than B/W.
did you look at the shitheap that was XY
even the gym leader theme for XY was shit
Oh boy I sure love wasting time grinding a shitmon so I don't have a useless lvl 10 sitting in my party that I only send out to take a blow while I revive my main Pokemon
Fuck off, exp share is nothing but QoL
If you're an autistic fag who enjoys grinding, or that you think that grinding is more """""""challenging""""""" for wasting time spamming wild battles, kill yourself.
All exp share does is making sure you have a full party ready for battle at any time.
i always knew these trees were fucked up with their drp rates
I agree. The distribution of the new Pokemon is Gen 2 was laughably bad. Adding a new ghost type and the ghost leader doesn't even use it and to get it you need to beat the Elite 4 first. You can tell GF have struggled with good design even in their early titles.
One thing I'll praise though is the online functionalities such as the PSS with its wonder trade. The move to new hardware was helpful for that.
are you fucking serious? how does X/Y look worse than B/W? this has to be some sort of joke. I actually doubt you have beaten X/Y with that retarded opinion. X/Y was the start of the next generation of pokemon graphics and admittedly, it did have the easiest campaign but everything else looked marvelous compared to B/W
Agreed it was underwhelming, I'm was kind of hoping the unique theme for Korrina was a sign of unique variations on the theme for each Gym Leader in future games but it wasn't which was really disappointing. Honestly Gens 1-3 and 5 had such great Gym Leader Themes it's a shame Gen 4's was weak and we haven't really had a good one since B2W2's cool as fuck renditions.
Don't you think removing the grind removes the point of an RPG game? What fun is pokemon when you just walk through all the trainers?
They should've had it work like the Exp. All imo, by cutting the exp gain between the Pokemon instead of adding to it. Instead of just making the level caps for each boss in the game stupidly high they should've actually given the bosses interesting and demanding teams with movesets and abilities that complimented one another and kept the player on their toes but didn't force them to grind if they were able to work around it or had a better strategy of their own.
i remeber this
Jokes on you! I had the strategy guide! Shiny cover and everything!
Gen 4's theme at least was full of impact. I can't find anything to defend Gen 6.
>3D good
>sprites bad
No I won't. Gen 2 was a mediocre rehash of gen 1. Gen 3 was when the meaningful ideas of gen 2 -hold items, new types, weather, etc- were fleshed out.
And then gen 4 fucked everything up.
How is 3D bad? It's only logical that there would be 3D on the 3DS
Have fun with munchlax, you poor, poor soul.
While there is a massive hate-boner for the 3D Pokemon games that amplifies any flaw by a million, the nice sprite work in BW is far nicer than the awkward transition to stiff 3D models which were overly chibi in XY. Sun and Moon look fine but I still prefer sprites.
Admittedly as contrast I think the Elite Four Themes across the generations have been a bit more varied in terms of quality;
6 > 3 > 5 = 7 > 4 = 1 = 2
Kalos and Hoenn have really good E4 themes imo, there is a good balance between the intimidation factor of the E4 in both themes as well as being an intense and cool theme, Unova & Alola are both also good, I'd argue Alola has the best opening section to its theme but they also have sections of their music that don't sound very good, as for Kanto, Johto & Sinnoh if they're not going to be unique from their Gym Leader Themes then they get nothing.
I played both and XY was completely underwhelming.
Except it's not, it's 10%, and for Mareanie you just have to find a Corsola and not kill it. Easy as piss.
Gen 2 was the best and there's nothing you can say to change my fucking mind. Sure I liked gen 4 a lot but afterwards the series got more and more unappealing to me (and it wasn't a matter of getting older, I was 18 when D/P came out and I had lost interest in gen 3). B/W couldn't do it, X/Y couldn't do it. Sun and Moon couldn't. I even appreciate the gen 2 remakes more.
>People still believe this shit
Is it because E-celebs told you too?
>Me and my friend would do Mystery Gift every day
>I always got shit like berries or mail while he would unlock all the cool room decorations like the giant dolls and the N64
Gen 4 is the worst you could ever choose for a catch em all.
You mean by adding online and physical/special split that fixed up a lot of fuck ups and actually made double battles strategic and meaningful?
Man that version of octillery is based
> Two Ground-Types total
> Three Psychic-Types total
> Two Fighting-Types total
Yikes
Also inb4 some fuckwit asks about Ghost or Ice, those types are canonically getting fuck all Pokemon to begin with I already expect their numbers to be low.
playing through gold again really makes you realize how shitty the distribution of pokemon is
>You literally can't even get Mareep/Flaaffy/Ampharos in Crystal
I tried going through it again recently and I dropped it once I found that out.
BW was as good as gen 3, if not better. I loved being forced to use all brand new Pokemon. I didn't have the option to fall back on old favorites. It felt like the first time playing Pokemon again. It's too bad too many people complained about that. Now your team ends up having one or maybe two brand new Pokemon to use
Based Yea Forumsmerade.
you get phanpy early though so shut up.
What??? He gets take down super early
And then there's the issue of elemental stones.
Gen 2 had cool ideas but was ruined by some truly retarded design choices.
>he doesn't know
Go talk to your mom.
why the fuck are there so few fire pokemon? do they just expect everyone to pick the fire starter? seems like this was also an issue in other gens
Same.
Not to mention the coloue pallettes
i prefer murkrow over dipshit dog because i'm not an edgy furry
That was my first thought while playing XY for the first time, that this shit needed a ton of work.
She gets you moon stones in GS.
BW has shitty sprite work. Diamond/Pearl looked better
>Mantine exclusive to gold
>Delibird exclusive to Silver
Interesting choices.
>watch anime before I get game
>"oh wow Ash caught a Haunter to beat Sabrina with"
>get to Sabrina in game
>go do the exact same
>"oh shit nigger"
why did the anime have to lie to children like that
>Bomshikar
Wah wah
There are actually fewer Ice and Fighting Pokémon than fire Pokémon, but Gen 4’s failure to introduce anything other than Chimchar and Heatran brought the lack of fire types to everyone’s minds.
>tfw no 18 or 432 james gf
BW's sprites were kinda fucked up by the """animation""" and scaling.
That was by far the most common criticism thrown at gen V back then
in the same generation, feebass is something like a 7 tile encounter rate with fishing (in the region with the most water and worst fishing mechanics), different every save file, and to evolve it you need to autistically plant berries and make perfect beauty pokeblocks
>role playing game game
then don't play pokemon. you have plenty of shitty games like zelda where you don't have levels and experience and crap
There was a braille translation chart in the fucking game manual you fucking retards
the DS games are good games but graphics wise i think they look terrible. the sprites mixed with the weird 3D is not a good look.
>wasting hours of your time finding out which one of the hundred spawn points can spawn a rare shitmon instead of hundreds of ekans/magikarp is okay
>even though bad RNG might cause you to miss the spawn point entirely
Is your life really that empty that you have to take pride in how much time you waste hunting for shitmons?
That not as bad as the Regigas Mystery in ORAS
I had this Pelican brand "Brain Boy" I think it was called, it was like a gameshark specifically for pokemon games. You could copy save files over (this also worked on r/b/y/c), change your trainer ID, make pokemon eggs, modify pokemon stats, nicknames, change the time of day, and what me and a friend used it for was to skip to the next day so we could do mystery gifts. Do that a few dozen times every day
Yeah it's weird, I'd think another Gimmick Pokemon would work better as the exclusive to Delibird and another Marine Pokemon would work better as the exclusive to Mantine. I could see some sort of Easter Bunny Pokemon for Delibird and a Shark or some other predatory marine creature (maybe that Gulper Eel)
In Diamond and Pearl there was a grand total of TWO (2) fire types you could get. The Infernape line and the Rapidash line. Someone really hated the fire type in gen4.
Evidently they fired the Fire-Type hater and hired an Ice-Type hater because as Gen 6 and 7 added fuck all to the Ice-Type.
at least ice type is supposed to be rare
Why, what is the reason, I can accept something like Dragon and Ghost Type who were originally the secret types given each one had only one Evolutionary line under its belt and was a tricky type to deal with due to the high resistances of Dragon and the immunity to Normal of Ghost, Ice meanwhile had five entirely separate Pokemon from the get go who were under its type and aside from its unique standpoint of being one of the worst types defensively there's nothing particularly quirky about it especially nowadays that Fairy-Type stole its Dragon Killing Title and made Ice objectively worse than it already was.
there was a braille guide in the instruction booklet you dumbass
the regis will never hold a candle to gen4 snorlax or even feebas in the very same gen
I think I kinda get why they do obscure stuff like feebas and pineco. First of all, is to sell guides, second it's so the kids get to spread this knowledge and trade together.
I remember reading about feebas and got together with a couple of friends to search it through the river until eventually one of us found the tile and we started trading it. It felt neat, it felt like doing some research looking how it's found and then field research actually looking for it and you know, it felt really rewarding once we found it, and because we were hanging out together it didn't feel like a drag at all.
Best case scenario I think this is what GameFreak expects, that you play the game with your friends and find stuff together which is why they always release two versions.
From a design point it's bullshit but as a kid, you feel like you've gained some secret knowledge and that makes you feel super smart.
>aside from its unique standpoint of being one of the worst types defensively
and yet gamefreak keeps making defensive ice pokemon
Spiritomb isn't OP though.
Yeah Avalugg was a fucking weird one wasn't it, I don't get why we aren't seeing some aggressive Ice-Types, it feels like the recent Ice-Types have all been trying to be that immovable glacier when in reality Ice-Types should be that fucking relentless blizzard. Gen 8 really needs to get its shit together with the Ice-Types, they need three decently fast (at least 90+ Base Speed) to bring that type back from the brink something like;
1) 86HPP / 136ATK / 59DEF / 50SAT / 59SDE / 100 SPD - 490 Total
2) 100HPP / 35ATK / 99DEF / 100SAT / 99SDE / 92SPD - 525 Total
3) 40HPP / 115ATK / 56DEF / 111SAT / 51SDE / 117SPD
What's it like to be retarded?
I'll never stop being mad at how ice is such a shit fucking type that you're better off just getting a Water mon with an ice type move (which isn't hard because most of them can learn good Ice moves) because STAB isn't worth the shit that comes with the typing.
490 Total on that last one
Before fairy type existed he had literally 0 weaknesses
Best mon to hack Wonder Guard onto
Have you seen Grass type?
>Shit offensively
>Shit defensively
>B-but a handful of them get Spore!
>5%
1 in 20 isn't that bad
Well there's alolan ninetales, weavile and mamoswine for UU and above
I had most fun (single player, none of that fucking competitive EV/IV nature bullshit and endless fighting against people online) with gens 2 and 4.
Kinda wish for a game like those, that didn't lock some of the cool items or events behind cheats (or real life events that happened all those years ago). Maybe access to all pokemon plus added quest lines or whatever for those secret items.
Or rather alolan ninetales and weavile for OU, and Mamoswine for UU
It is honestly so annoying that types like Grass, Ice and Poison have been and continue to be terrible for so long, even now with Poison getting an edge over Fairy there's no fucking point because the best defensive type in the game, Steel, also got that edge, the Type system needs an overhaul
imagine being this guy
Alolan Ninetales and Alolan Sandslash are new takes on old Pokemon I mean some genuinely new Pokemon, Regional Formes are a cool and unique idea and all (well not unique fans have been making them for over a decade at this point) but they shouldn't be taking away from the type additions of the actual new Pokemon.
>>in a small patch of grass that there's no reason to think of visiting after seeing nothing but low level pidgey so far
Doesn't the area where they show up flash when you look them up in the pokedex?
Abomasnow really needs just sheer power (not the ability, if anything Huge Power, Harvest or Serene Grace would be good for it) in its moves. Wood Hammer and Blizzard contradict one another by existing, Abomasnow has always struck me as being on the Physical side of things so seeing a move like Ice Hammer on it would be good, or hell give it some new moves, if it had gotten Serene Grace some moves that had bonus effects like Sleep, Paralysis or Freeze would be good.
damn i just got lucky as a kid then, i snagged both and knew nothing of that bad luck 7 shit
Regarding Dark types they did put Murkrow and Larvitar (it evolves into Tyranitar at least) in the Safari Zone as well. No such luck for Houndour though.
ice is the best so they keep it low. it's the dragon killer
Not him but I never got one, I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.
That's after you beat the elite four and go to kanto.
Murkrow and Houndour are Kanto native
>need all 3 Regis to wake up Regigigas
>need a fateful encounter Regigigas to get the 3 Regis in the same game
I get that you were meant to Pal Park over the 3 Regis from RSE but it was still strange.
> It's the Dragon Killer
It was the Dragon Killer, it stopped being the Dragon Killer when another type not only became super effective against Dragon-Types but became immune to them as well making Dragon-Types completely offensively and defensively useless against that type. Dragon-Types already had fuck all offensively it was just the sheer variability the Dragon-Type Pokemon had in their movesets and access to attacks and abilities as well as the good defensive resistance against the common as the actual ocean Water-Types, aggressive as fuck Fire-Types and annoying to deal with Electric-Types, hell if it wasn't for them getting blue balled by Steel-Types, Dragon-Type would've been broken as fuck.
But no, its mega got snow warning
Pic related?
Why did they give the Mega Snow Warning, it already causes hail, that's like giving Mega Hippowdon Sand Stream, what is the point, may as well just not give it an ability at all, fuck.
Which Pokemon type has it worse over the games?
Fire or Fighting?
Gen 1-5 - Fire
Gen 6+ - Fighting
>glaceon
Literally Flareon-tier bad
>wanna use a vespiquen on my team
>have to wait 6 REAL TIME HOURS for Pokemon to appear in honey trees because they run on real time in the game itself and time travelling through the DS settings doesn’t work
here is what you do
1) put down the gameboy
2) go lose your virginity
3) stop playing children's games because now you're a man
Well duh.
Game freaks will never have the balls to do that.
Enjoy your world of turbo cucks feeding solely on berries and apricorns
You know the pokedex tells you where to find pokemon you've seen, right?
?
>not hacking a perfect vespiquen in
lol stand back noob, I'll frag this charlie
>platinum
>gameboy
>Pokemon is a children’s game
Based brainlet
How does it taste?
>Pokemon is a children’s game
Are you seriously saying it isn't
>Need to beat at least Gym 7 (but most people didn't figure it out until after Gym 8 since the route is past the gym
>Needed Relicanth (a shitty pokemon with a 5% spawn rate in two specific underwater areas in gen 3)
>Needed Wailord in your party as well, which meant you had to catch an underleveled Wailmer and grind it to evolve because the wild Wailord spawn rate was absolutely fucked
>Find the cave in the middle of the current maze
>use braile to figure out you need to use Dig to open the first door, then set your party exactly right (Relicanth in front and Wailord at the end) to open the door to each individual Regis
>First one (Ice) requires you to backtrack to some out of the way location and wait for like 5 literal minutes of pure inactivity or else the timer resets, then you can open the door and fight it
>Next (Rock) Head to the desert and find a random cave, move in a specific way and use Strength to open the door and fight this one
>Last (Steel) needs to go to a different cave across the map, use Fly in the middle of the room, then you can fight it
Needless to say because they were "legendary" pokemon they were tough as shit even with correct matchups, so you had to be over-leveled to survive long enough to get the capture. And the puzzles themselves were all written in braille. Luckily the manual had a braille dictionary in the back but no one kept it so we all had to use the internet to solve the puzzle.
hi
Yeah the developers of pokemon are actually really bad at designing new monsters and abilities. They had a couple neat ideas that they've reused rehashed and recycled for 20 years. Every game has examples of wasted potential, like pokemon with interesting types but poor stats, or good stats but useless moves.
Is BW2 a good game to pick up after not playing Pokemon since HGSS? Is ORAS worth playing?
I have a feeling they were playing it safe incase the 100 new Pokemon were badly received compared to the original 151. It's kind of like a reverse Pokemon B/W in that you practically don't have to use the new Pokemon if you really don't want to.
There's playing it safe and then there's being stupid, Gen 4 in reality added about the same number of actually new Pokemon as Gen 6 but gave itself a massive boost by including evolutions and pre-evolutions to Old Pokemon, not only did that give Gen 4 more Pokemon overall but it breathed life into the Old Pokemon that got evolutions, Gen 6 and 7 could've done that and it would've at least given them a leg in, Gen 8 would benefit from giving evolutions to Gen 7 Pokemon I think, there were a lot of no-evo Gen 7 Pokemon that would benefit from an evo in either direction tbqf.
adding kanto was fucking retarded. it made the level range of Johto feel really stupid and in general Johto wasn't developed enough. I will never understand the love for Kanto in gen 2. It was a dumb addon and practically ruined the whole game
bw2 is my favorite in the franchise. It has the most variety of pokemon available all throughout the game. By the 2nd badge I think I had pokemon from 4 different genreations. the battles are really fast paced which is the most important thing, there's an option to use another repel/super repel/max repel after your other wears off, a good spot to level your pokemon that isn't redoing the elite 4 a dozen times.
the only thing that sucks is the GTS is down, it was great to breed your starter pokemon, hatch them, and then trade those for anything you wanted.
Neither did Sabeleye though?
>I will never understand the love for Kanto in gen 2
then you didn't play the first game when it came out. It was great to see the slightly updated region, face the gym leaders again.
I know Johtos levels are fucked up, but at least the elite 4 are all below level 50. the only misstep was not including a 2nd round with the elite 4 with much higher levels after getting 16 badges
Did Yea Forums shit themselves over a copy-pasted thread?
the difference is that sableeye was fucking garbage
>slugma hidden away in cycling road of all places
>nobody ever gives a shit
inb4 but slugma is shit; so is murkrow
How did anyone accidentally evolve a Milotic?
Curb your autism, you have no idea how to make a video game and if you tried you would fail dramatically. Shitting on things with vague hand waving doesn't make you intelligent.
The point of pokemon was to collect them all. Of course some of them are going to be hard to find.
I think Johto was on the right track a lower level range demands more from the developers in the difficulty from other departments like Type consideration as well as Stats, Abilities, Moves and Items. Simply making every Gym Leader 5-10 levels higher than the previous one has worked against that creativity of difficulty. optimally I think the Aces of Gym Leaders and Elite Four should probably go; Lv14 -> Lv18 -> Lv22 -> Lv25 -> Lv28 -> Lv32 -> Lv35 -> Lv40 -> Lv45 -> Lv47 -> Lv50 -> Lv52 -> Lv55
Giving Gym 8 and E4 No.1 the only 5 Level Boosts I think emphasizes two things; firstly, why the eighth Gym Leader is eighth, they're noticeably stronger than the rest, and secondly, why the Elite Four are the Elite Four because even though the eighth Gym Leader was a step up, so is the Elite Four, also 15 Levels overall feels about right given usually there's maybe one Route and Victory Road between the Eighth Gym and the Champion.
I love Slugma & Magcargo but yeah what the fuck was with that, honestly until Generation 5 I legit thought they were Gen 3 Pokemon because not only did I never find them in Gen 2 but they seemed to really fit with Mt. Chimney.
It's weird because I remember fondly reading all my game manuals (even long after I played gen3) yet I know I would've been intrigued if there had been a braille alphabet (french version).
It ended up being a buddy of my sister who shown me the regis - I was baffled they even EXISTED, considering I had cleared the game a few times.
I aint mad though I never cared too much about super-rare pokemons. I was usually more intrigued about where to find something like the gen3 dragon (Draby?), which is not hard, than something like Feebas.
I do remember being upsetti that Nosepass was somewhat uncapturable (maybe a Sapphire exclusive?) and I've always hated mons that evolve on exchange
Imagine if you put that much thought into losing your virginity
as a pokemon casual this thread is teaching me that a lot of pokemon I originally was convinced were gen III or IV were actually gen 2 the whole time.
holy crap that's literally me
Though I think some kanto trainers have a magcargo, at this point you're kinda sick of trainers so I just proceeded through
And later when I returned to play pokemons my first thought upon seeing a slugma was "oh yeah that gen3 pokemon, kinda nice"
Did you guys really never find a Houndour near the beginning of the game? I did and it was one of my favorites.
There's really no defending and it's the one thing that sours Gen 2 in my eyes. It even makes it hard for me to go back and play them, because interesting new teams I would want to make aren't possible or are only possible after I've beaten the game.
How could you not know when you could just look them up in the pokedex
>Foretress, Heracross and Milotic are shitmons
lmao
murkrow has the bonus of being one of 5 Dark types in Gen2, meanwhile both Fire and Rock aren't as rare and have better mons, especially ones that don't have a crippling 4x weakness against one of the most common types in the series
but it's ok slugma just wait one more generation so you can find a niche in being a reliable egg hatcher with 2 abilities that speed the egg cycles up
You're supposed to trade pokemon.
speak for yourself, fucking eleven year old me didn't have internet so I fucking solved that shit with the guide in the manual.
why are you quoting some NPC loser? Your favorites shouldn't be complete garbage.
>I just discovered Smogon
lmao
Wait WHAT?
...
not in the original script
>just discovered Smogon
who are you quoting retard
BW is a DS game? Didn't even realize
Because while I finished the base game of GSC I never finished the Post-Game until around the time HGSS came out and I decided to go back and play the originals. Hence I never ran into either Slugma or Magcargo in Gen 2 so since my first exposure to them was in Gen 3 that's where I assumed they originated from.
Nobody, I was paraphrasing your internal dialogue
Are you suggesting that image is a fabrication? Because it's not. Maybe you should play the game.
okie doke
You can beat the main campaign with any Pokémon you want, it’s not a hard game. The hardest boss has a fucking Pikachu as his strongest Pokémon and half his team is weak to electric types.
“Using the best” only really applies at battle facilities and online play
You can't beat the game with 6 Magcargos.
I actually made a conscious effort on my last playthrough to use Pokemon I'd never used before (pic related) and ended up discovering three of my all time favorites through it. I wish they didn't hide these Pokemon behind things like 5% encounter rates in postgame areas or RNG-based stones that you can only get on certain days of the week. It's baffling to me how these decisions were made.
Why is Yea Forums so bad at debating
Like if someone says you can beat skyrim or some shit any way they like, there's always that one pikey who comes in like "you can't beat it without moving hurdurr" fuck you
>Lying on the internet (on purpose)
Here's the (You) despite your lazy effort
Slightly related but this thread got me to hop online on 3DS and I just had a really funny battle where I swept Arceus, Tapu Lele, and Xurkitree with Shiinotic. Poor guy, this probably should never happen
It made the new pokemon feel more special and desirable.
Fire by far, it’s never been a great type. Fighting was really strong in Gens 4 and 5, one of the best offensive types in the game along with Dragon
What a fucking horrendous justification
you said you can beat the game with whatever shitmons you wanted. you cant
Is ice type allowed to be good yet?
gen 2 was truly the worst (after gen 1 of course)
>Shitty Pokemon variety until very late in the game
>Lots of Shitmons like Stantler and the Flat Snake
>Pokemon like Larvitar locked until Mt. Silver
>Victory Road is a fucking empty small cave with no trainers in it except your rival at the end
>Most caves in the game are just empty with not much going on
>Final Gym Leader Pokemon only level 40
>Worst Champ in history of Pokemon with his 3 stupid Dragonites that are all even below the evolution level for Dragonite
>Kanto is completely empty, Viridian Forest is literally 4 lines of bushes
You COULD beat the game with 6 magcargos if you're an autist and grind them all up to like level 8. But that's obviously not what they were implying- Karen's dialogue is saying that instead of using people just because they're good (like a team with gengar, chansey, tyranitar, etc) you should use the pokemon you actually like by design. If you can't beat the game with a gaggle of your favourite mons then somehow you're too dense for a fucking children's monster battling game
Gen 3 is best gen desu
> and grind them all up to like Level 8
> Level 8
> Magcargo
> Magcargo evolves at Level 38
I hope you meant Level 80 otherwise you're autistic as fuck user, also Red's Blastoise would likely end a team like that unless you're being an item whore.
Houndoom is the goodest boy in this image
>You COULD beat the game with 6 magcargos if you're an autist and grind them all up to like level 8
no you couldnt
Why are there so many pokemon threads on Yea Forums these days? You have a containment board, kiddies. Use it.
>gets hit by fire type attack
>dies instantly
It's forretress by the way
Just report them like reporting /mlp/ threads omegalul
Is there actually a pokemon that has 4 legs first stage, 2 second, then 3 third?
this is what I mean. I obviously meant level 80 but you faggots can't debate so you just cherrypick the spelling mistake, absolute drooling retards
Bren thinking about replaying HG/SS, are there any good romhacks?
I prefer 2 just because of the wonder and mystery when you beat the elite 4 and realise you can go back to kanto
>I obviously meant level 80
i know, retard
I never got why you only got pseudos so late into the game.
I mean they have one of the largest EXP requirement to lvl up and they also only evolve at a really high level, so it's not as if you would have a 600 BST mon by the 5th gym.
If you got a larvitar early on for, by the time you got pupitar most of your other mon would be fully evolved abd have 500+ BST.
Even if you used the kid only using 1 mon strat, it would still be harder than just plowing through the game with your starter, because your starter evolves and lvls way faster.
While if you did the same with Larvitar you would probably still have a pupitar by the time you reach the E4.
Gen2 was a fucking mess, everyone who isn't a boomer wishing he was young again can admit that
don't say you didn't figure these out on your own as a kid, user : )
He never said that it didn't, you cocksucker.
> he only played gen 1
> literally JUST gen 1
>tired zoomer cope
that's the problem
Gen II has this "easy to beat, hard to grind" shit because enemies are piss easy ergo all the new recruits are harder to level and join
my first game was blue, kys retard
sure thing kiddo
giving farfetch'd an evo misses its point honestly
Nah XY is much better than SM by any given margin.
>giving farfetch'd an evo misses its point
what would that point be
Gentoo was a mistake.
I prefer the chad gentleman who says that regardless of your favorites, there are objectively strong pokemon.
its point was literally "you are a sucker for getting this bird", the whole theme of it having an onion leek to boot as though it is a prized catch. you trade a useful bird for what is essentially a space occupier.
oh no a pokemon has a weakness how unbelievable
in gen1. past that thats no longer the point.
Why does Game Freak make you go through all these hoops to have you catch shitmons? I don't get it?
They understood in Gen 1 that Pokemon barricaded by tedious/obnoxious tasks should be good Pokemon (for the most part, because you know, Porygon definitely wasn't good in RBY). This is why Pokemon like Tauros, Exeggutor, Chansey, etc were some of the best Pokemon at that time. It was almost like a traditional JRPG with rare/unique equipment.
Then they threw most of that shit out the window as they started to make more games. Hell, they've been doing the opposite now
>lol Chimecho in RSE has a 2% encounter rate in a tiny patch of a place you want to get out of as soon as possible. BTW no trainers even use the thing, and its complete ass :^)
>Here you go buddy, a free Lati@s! It even comes with its own mega stone so you can ROFLstomp the rest of the game!
>Don't want you to have too much trouble catching legendaries now since we're tying them into the narrative. Give them a 255 capture rate!
Pokemon themes are perpetual though. Delibird doesn't stop being a delibird in later gen.
those are more for collector's value though. Imagine having to catch a latias with shit stats/nature.
>Pokemon themes are perpetual though
wrong.
No way this is real. I always caught Pineco on every new playthrough in my copy of Silver without much effort.
Black and White at least has a better postgame aka new areas, bosses to fight and new monst to catch. XY has you move left and right in Paris and that's it
how
megas still keep the original intent just exaggerated and evos continue the theme
>mfw i was 7 and thought that switching tree after headbutting it was a logical choice
I still had a pineco and a heracross, probly cause I played so much of it
my first thought as well but I think I played crystal only
boy that was a while ago
XY still isn't as bad as SM, XY still has postgame (dunno why people didn't dabble on doing certain sidequests and the cave) but SM was a whole another shitfest
Being one of the kids with internet access around that time was pretty helpful.
>I didn't have the option to fall back on old favorites.
You could have used Dream World to get older Pokémon. IIRC my entire team was filled with Dream World Pokemon because I gave up trying to find Pokémon that I liked in the wild.
I agree that XY is better than Gen 7 but not by every margin, the Dex is more focused and not a fucking piece of shit in Gen 7 like it was in XY and the villains overall were better, aside from that yeah XY beats Gen 7 in about any category where either generation is anything above god fucking awful.
Ponyta/Rapidash were also available. But you knew it was a problem when Flint had the two fires, Drifblim, Lopunny, and Steelix
nah I said before that while XY is underwhelming it's not offensive like SM, if it had a "Platinum" it would have been seen great
>played pokemon all my life
>have never encountered a shiny
>have never caught pokerus
I know you can deliberately hunt for shiny's now with special methods, but that would have no meaning. I want to know the thrill of just spotting one out of nowhere in the wild like everyone else has.
Then build on that theme, if Farfetch'd's hold thing is that it's supposed to be a seemingly rare Pokemon with in reality a pretty big hindrance then give it an evo but make the trade off that the Evo has a bizarre ability like Defeatist or Truant or give it moves that act as Take Down style moves, you know, move with a negative cost against the player's Pokemon.
As for Delibird, an evolution that continued the Christmas theme would work fine and giving Delibird more moves that related to Christmas and Gift-Giving would work well, you could have moves that aren't as stupidly random as Present for it that could actually have some functionality like giving out random statuses or forcing both parties to swap out their active Pokemon.
Ah missed that part, also agreed, Z seems like it could've worked really well, especially if they took some pages from the anime and realized how to do Team Flare correctly.
Thank god Pt gave them some more Fire-Types to choose from, I think they probably should've had a few more overall like Ninetales seems like a pretty good fit for Sinnoh given the spiritual connections both the Pokemon and the Region have.
I've never seen one either except for the story requirement shiny garados. Kinda sucks desu
I'm currently doing a playthrough of SacredGold. You can get almost any pokemon in the wild up to Gen IV, there are items for mons that require trading, difficulty is increased (though after the 7th gym it kinda snowballs), but Kanto is still incredibly empty and boring.
Currently playing with my all-star team of Raichu, Gengar, Alakazam, Arcanine, Machamp and rotom
>use my favorite
>it has a garbage moveset
>stats are completely awful
>offers jack shit to battles and slows the pace of combat down
>constantly having to force away thoughts to just replace it with something that can one shot sweep everything in my path
>Pokemon from 4 different generations
Am I the only pleb for wanting to use pokemon only from that region? Besides gen 2 tho.
It's definitely a good way to get used to the new Pokemon and if there are genuinely six Pokemon you like I don't see an issue, for me though it's impossible for me to have a purely new Pokemon set if certain old Gen Pokemon like Crobat, Houndoom, Flygon & Krookodile appear in said game. XY the only new Pokemon I used was Chesnaught as the starter, Gen 7 fared marginally better with Incineroar and Kommo-o.
I can't wait for Sword Shield. Grinding eggs and battling online on my TV this winter with a blanket on and a warm drink. Going to be MAX COMFY senpaitachi.
People who complain are the generic gaming journalists and zoomers that don't do endgame content and never touch it again when they finish the story. The true fanbase is the online community that stay years after.
I dropped gen 7 right after because it was boring trash with a shit island map layout
Yeah that's the one I found, might give it a go
HEEEEE HAAAARRR REAL WORLD LOGIC APPLIED TO VIDEO GAMES!!!!!!!!!!! SOOOOO PHANNY JOEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@@@@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm the same but in the last year i got pokerus and 2 shiny's
i'd like to do that at some point but some games are pure aids to do so with like gen 2 and 7
>Downloaded Gold on virtual console in preparation for Gen8.
>Sudowoodo was shiny on encounter and contracted Pokerus on victory road before first challenging the Elite 4.
I'd never seen a shiny Pokemon outside of Gyarados in any other game I've played.
dq monsters is the superior series
The hell is dq?
What does “dark” type really mean?
My first runs are always native mons only user.
I'd say it is the patrician run.
Dark is just a facy way to say something uses sneaky/underhanded tactics in battle. That's why Greninja is half Dark in the first place
dairy queen
Honestly I always thought normal "real" animals still existed in the Pokemon world. It was just that obviously Pokemon were different from them.
Gen II was the first sequel, after the fucking immense success of Pokemon. With advertisers already drilling "150"! into the minds of kids everywhere they were incredibly uncertain about how reactions to new Pokemon would be, especially in America.
So GF hid the fuck out them, even the anime only lightly sprinkled in new mons like Togepi and Snubbull sparsely until they felt the consumers accepted new Pokemon.
Can anyone help me with the best romhacks of every Pokemon Gen? I wanna play them all from the start but with good balancing but no OC Deviantart tier pokemon
I didn't get Pokerus and until my Moon run and I had been playing since Gen 1. Now thanks to Pokemon Bank I'm going to pass it along to my Galar team. I also caught three shiny in like a 15 year span: first two were a pair of Ledyba because I autistically searched for them back in Silver, and later in X I found a shiny Emolga. Speaking on that, in Soul Silver there was a shiny Delibird I accidentally one shot.
Drayano hacks are bretty gud.
Murkrow was better than houndoom in gen 2 and is better than honchkrow right now
no game will ever top the bullshit they did in gen 3
Houndour seems childplay to the island bullshit they pulled in gen3
Oh shit, this Drayano person has romhacks for Gen 2, Gen 3, Gen 4 and Gen 5 which are all my favorites. Thanks user, fucking based. Any other recommendations for romhacks in general?
And what are the best emulators?
What the fuck are you on about, Murkrow is absolute shit in Gen 2 and has become irrelevant over the generations.
Dark is "evil". In Gen II it was "negative energy" special focused shit but over time it became a mostly physical type that is sort of played off as "evil fighting type"
Shit like biting, sucker punches, cheap shot, playing dirty compared to fighting types' more martial arts inspired move pool.
Why did they make this a counter to psychic types? Well probably because they couldn't think of a counter to bullshit mind magic. The idea is likely that the negative aspect of dark types can be read by psychic types which disturbs them as they're forced to "read the evil" of their opponent, even making them unable to harm them with psychic abilities.
Wolfman’s line is great.
He's probably talking about Evolite which makes certain preforms better than their evolution, such as Duskull over Dusknoir.
Still never saw that island
Gen 3 > Gen 4 > Gen 5 > Gen 2 > Gen 6 > Gen 1
This is the universal truth and you can't argue against this ranking
>me at 8 years old
>play pokemon gold, fuck yes pokemon i love it
>somewhere in kanto
>encounter a nidoran female that has a weird colored sprite and which for some reason flashes at first glance
>catch it, why not
>level it up to nidoqueen
>find out from friend that ive found a "shiny"
>no idea what a shiny was, but it felt unique and cool and none of the other kids had one
>kept shiny nidoqueen in my team for the rest of the game
That was 18 years ago. That save is long since lost. Never encountered another shiny since. feelsbadman
Lol murkrows was still better than houndoom. And has only gotton better over the years
I don't really play romhacks all that much.
I hear the hardtype Nocturne hack.
I akso don't emulate I just use either an r4 card or vita/psp for my gameboy emulators.
I think virtual boy and desmume are the most popular emulators for GBA and DS respectively.
>heracross and milotic
>shitmons
C O P E
>Gen 1 and 2 on the bottom

Objectively nothing is better than the Generation 1 and 2 music. Disagreeing means you're easily fooled by distracting instrumentation in place of good direction.
>gen3
>anything but literal garbage
I do that with every generation save Kanto and Johto. Hell I think Ultra Moon is the first time I actually bothered making a team of both new and old in that long a time.
I fuck with the horns, am i autistic for liking it a lot?
youtube.com
>Objectively nothing is better than the Generation 1 and 2 music
> as for Kanto, Johto & Sinnoh if they're not going to be unique from their Gym Leader Themes then they get nothing.
> Honestly Gens 1-3 and 5 had such great Gym Leader Themes
I'm not arguing that the themes themselves aren't good but I consider them to be the Gym Leader themes not the Elite Four Themes, therefore as far as I give a shit those three Gens didn't have real Elite Four Themes, I'm probably more disappointed that FRLG and HGSS didn't change that.
you have literally no idea what you are talking about aren't you
oh no dude absolutely. I love gen 2 but it has serious problems with the pool of Pokemon you can get. The gym leaders also have some absolutely garbage teams. Falkner doesnt have a hoothoot - neither the bug nor fighting gym has a heracross - the ice gym leader ONLY has attack moves that are normal or ice so you dont even have to play around Dewgong or Piloswines dual typing... I could go on.
And think about it, if you dont get Typhlosion iirc the only firemons you can realistically encounter are Growlithe and Ponyta, before you get to Kanto.
Literally exactly what I meant by distracting instrumentation. No clear direction, they all just sound like noise.
Or maybe he doesn't think 2 pieces make a whole soundtrack good?
Damn nigga! This would have been useful for my Nuzlocke. Pic related is my progress so far.
Bet you hate all those new age kids and their electric twangers
damn this image looks kinda nice did you make that yourself or is there a site for that
Not at all, I'm just not distracted by the auditory equivalent of shiny objects and flashing lights. First 2 generations have extremely stripped down capabilities, which makes it very hard to hide behind fancy gimmicks. Better hardware almost always means worse music, confoundingly even when full orchestras become involved. Obviously there are exceptions, but Pokemon is not one of them. No generation after 2 comes close to the OST of the first two games, where literally ever piece perfectly fits the setting and it memorable is hell.
Yeah as someone whos playing through Crystal now my thoughts exactly. 90% of the good TMs are locked to Kanto. Getting an Abra *at all* just breaks the fucking game since you can get the element punches at Goldenrod.
Lots of Pokemon has garbage movepools or movepools that dont align with their stats since its pre-special/physical split. Ie Togetic having garbage base physical attack yet being a flying/normal type.
Unless you want to dump all your money into the casino to get fire blast on it, youre looking at a prime shitmon
seriously there are so many johtomons that casual fans regularly think are from gen3 or 4, like skarmory, dunsparce, gligar, the lanturn line, I could go on
what the fuck were they thinking, especially with twice as many routes to look in
oh wow thanks
Lapras is one of the sexiest pokemon and if you don't agree you have absolutely shit tastes.
You do know that you can open your pokedex and see where pokemon you've seen spawn right?
>90% of the good TMs are locked to Kanto
Also I should say, like 90% of said good TMs are once-a-game items you specifically get from gym leaders. Toxic and Mega Drain you get from Kanto gyms, and Steel Wing and Psychic are both locked to Kanto.
At least there is a post-E4 tutor that can teach your mons Ice Beam/Flamethrower/TBolt
... On wednesdays and saturdays only
for 4k coins each
>Muh Arcanine
I bet you picked Sqirtle and had a Nidoking too
I never realized this as a kid but replaying Silver on 3ds a couple of years ago made me realize that Ampharos doesn't even fucking learn thunderbolt.
I know, the character I posted was supposed to be called Fortress before people pointed out how much he looked like the pokémon Forretress and then his name was changed to Mettle
>I just like Gold/Crystal.
What about Silver?
Does HGSS fix any of the level issues/Pokemon distribution issues?
Not really.
To be fair, it's not like Haunter fought or anything, all he did was make Sabrina laugh and then she gave Ash the badge.
They made up for it with Mismagius design though. Just wish it was slightly stronger.
Still won't stop me from leveling one from time to time.
Gligar isn't Gen 3?
What the fuck?
Eh you can get tpunch from goldenrod so whatevs
literally waifu ghost
>REEE GO TO THE DESIGNATED SHITTING STREET
nah i'd like to use the toilet that is Yea Forums instead
no thats why you play sacred gold / storm silver instead
To a degree, although not in a meaningful enough way, one of the most daft things Gen 2 does is make Pryce and Chuck have the same level Pokemon even though Pryce is 7th and Chuck is 5th. It was good they bumped Pryce up to Lv34 but he really should've been pushed to Lv37, also the generic trainers are a joke as are the Team Rocket Admins, the main thing that HGSS brought to the table with those battles was the addition of moves from Gens 3 and 4 that made trainers have a bit more than Tackle/Scratch/Pound/Fury Swipes and Growl/Leer/Defense Curl/Tail Whip.
As for Pokemon Distribution, yeah nah, not even remotely it was a let down.
Yeah but not much. Heck, some of it is like Crystal in that they make some pokemon unavailable in areas where they were present in Good and Silver. And so many good evolution items for gen 1 and gen 4 evolutions are still only available in the post game for some reason.
Nah, Gligar is obviously a gen 4 pokémon, after all that's when Gliscor was introduced.
They brought back the dungeons that got cut out of Gen2's Kanto (Viridian Forest, Seafoam Islands, and the Unknown Dungeon complete with Mewtwo). Other than that, no. Kanto is still as barren and underleveled as before.
>read Quillish as Fucku
Huh
HOW 2 GET HAIRYCROSS IN HGSS???? NOT GAMEBOY
Too bad the metagame just gets worse and worse along with the games.
Kanto gyms have nigger lvl curves i thought
Gen 4 ou is the melee of pokmon
this, since 3 this has been my way
it's pretty hilairous how stupidly strong early Kalos mons in XY are
A 4x weakness
For Desmume, you'll have to use a specific fan build or tinker with settings because the maker of the emulator was a butthurt faggot who purposely made the Pokemon games run like shit. HGSS has numerous graphical issues, BW/BW2 tend to crash unless you have a really beefy PC. Or you can use Android's Drastic emulator instead if you want to use a phone.
eh if you pay attention it's more with the community's retardedness than anything else
as much shit as doubles and VGC is at least they like to spin the rules around that "staleness" is only felt towards the end
Nowadays, "Indian elephant" would be a Donphan and all mention of Surge being America would be changed to being from Unova.
Pokemon used to have a sort of feeling that it could possibly exist in the real world. Nowadays, it's its own world.
so what?
it's more of an early franchise thing and only gen 1 had that, in 2 they realized they had to make it into its own pokemon world
>sturdy
and that's a set of rocks up
At least early on when all the strongest Dragons were given double-weakness to Ice.
>Stopped playing pokemon after gen 2
>Feel nostalgic, want to retry them again
>Play through Leaf Green, Sapphire and Soul Silver
>Try White
>cutscene
>cutscene
>cutscene
>cutscene
Holy shit, absolutely dropped.
Nope.
>Gold/Silver
>Sneasel is available on route 28's ice path and Mt Silver postgame
>Crystal and HGSS
>Sneasel is only available in postgame Mt Silver
>Murkrow, Gligar, and Misdreavous get new evolutions in Gen 4
>HGSS the only way to evolve them is in the postgame or waiting for Bug Catching Contest RNG
>even Gen 1 stone evos like a Arcanine and Exeggutor can't be acessed unless prize RNG and postgame
>other Gen 2 pokemon are still relagated to either low percentage encounters, swarm RNG, or the kanto postgame
Very sweet, but no nutritional value.
There was a tale in Sinnoh that said if you ate a Pokemon, you were to bless the Pokemon for the meal and clean its remains, and then it would come back to life.
>add the new evos to the regional pokedex
>still wall them off
Little better than "... huh?" at least
It's better to play games past Gen 2 on emulators so you can speed past that shit. Gamefreak got crazy with forcing story interruptions more and more after each generation. HGSS and BW/B2W2 were ridiculous with their frequent story segments that stopped the game.
Not in the original G/S/C where he had an Espeon and not that redundant Lapras.
They probably should've gone with the bosses for HGSS as;
Falkner - Pidgey Lv11, Farfetch'd Lv12, Murkrow Lv14
Proton - Magnemite Lv13, Porygon Lv15
Bugsy - Scyther Lv15, Heracross Lv17, Ledian Lv18

Unless you have the PokeWalker and are willing to endure that to get rare items/Pokemon early.
>was disappointed with crystal because I wanted to use gligar was but it was shit
>gen 4 gives it a cool new evolution
>get excited
>turns out the only way to evolve it in hgss is waitning until you get the razor fang as a prize in the battle frontier
GAMEFREEEEEEEAAAAAAAK!
