Is there an actual tangible narrative in here or is it just cryptic nonsense? If the former, can someone explain to me what the fuck it is.

it's pretty self explanatory. you're hunting rabid humans.

A bunch of college kids found alien shit underground. Some of them tried to use the weird biotech stuff with eyes and others started using the alien blood. The biotech guys created a retarded spider god that prevented the alien shit from going to crazy while the blood guys started a religion around the blood and used it to heal people. Unfortunately the blood also eventually cased you to become a fucking monster or werewolf or shit and thats why the city is going to shit.

There are more layers and different sub factions and shit but thats the gist.

READ THE FUCKING ITEMS

REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAD THE FUCKING ITEMS

absolutely horrible advice

Here's a quick rundown on the plot:
>Find source spreading scourge of beasts
>Find out scourge of beasts happen during the Red Moon
>Find out that when the Great Ones descend, the line between man and beast is blurred (scourge of beasts), and a womb will be blessed with a child (eye of the cord in the Hunter’s Workshop)
>Find out Rom is obscuring the Mensis Ritual (note in Oedon’s Chapel)
>Find out Red Moon was there all along, just hidden due to Rom
>This is the source of the spreading scourge of beasts: the Mensis Ritual
>Mensis Ritual was conducted by the Mensis Scholars, but their contact with Mergo inevitably killed all of them
>Mensis Ritual required a newborn
>Find out Great Ones attracted to newborns (Miyazaki’s own words)
>Find out they were trying to beckon Kos(m) all this time
>Kill Mergo, the newborn, stop the ritual, and save whatever remains of the population from devolving into beasts
Your contract initially was to be a conscripted hunter in Yharnam. But you also had another contract: halt the source of the spreading scourge of beasts. Until then, you were bound to the dream, forever undying.

Note: beasthood itself can occur in small isolated cases, which was dealt with quietly and under the public radar by the Hunters of the now defunct Hunter's Workshop (lead by Gehrman). The Church did this as to not alarm the masses. That was until the Red Moon started to occur, and this amplified the beasthood into a "plague" known as the Scourge of Beasts.

Not really. Its all in there. But I suggest you read them all at the same time after beating the game. Easier to understand like that.

Cryptic nonsense for pseuds

Yeah there's plenty of narrative. Just read the items and make note of where you find things and what stuff looks like.

Some games can tell a story without the use of 10 hours of cutscenes, y'know.

it's terrible advice for someone who's trying to get an understanding of the basic plot, the items are as esoteric as the plot itself. I could pick any item as an example so i'm gonna pick Molotovs and not even edit this post if this is a shit example:

"Explodes in raging flames when thrown against an object. One of the oldest hunter tools available in the workshop.

Since the tragedy that struck Old Yharnam, fire has become a staple in beast hunts, and is thought to cleanse impurity.

Certain types of beasts have an abnormal fear of flame."

Yeah, all this gives the player is the knowledge that "Old Yharnam" was struck by a tragedy, but you have no way of knowing when it happened, who did it or anything about it. When you have a ton of knowledge already, this stuff is meaningful, but otherwise the item descriptions are not significant

>brave new world
did you actually read that book? you sound like you have no clue what you’re talking about

You are sick, for some reason you have the idea you need "paleblood" to heal yourself.

Yharnam is a city known for blood healing, so you head there.

Once you reach Yharnam and receive your first blood transfusion, upon falling asleep Gehrman (or the Moon Presence, it isn't clear) binds you to the Hunter's Dream.

In the Hunter's Dream you're told:

"To escape this dreadful Hunter's Dream, halt the source of the spreading scourge of beasts, lest the night carry on forever."

No one in Yharnam seems to know what paleblood is, aside from assuming it's a type of blood, you're directed to the the Grand Cathedral, "the birthplace of the Healing Church's special blood".

Upon reaching the Grand Cathedral you don't find any paleblood, but are directed to Byrgenwerth.

Upon slaying Rom, you're teleported to Yahar'gul, and notice the sky is purple, you've finally found your paleblood, and coincidentally the mission you've been given by the Hunter's Dream.[1]

1. Miyazaki: Right. I had considered making that a little easier to understand… but we wound up going with that. I think there are two different ways you could interpret “paleblood” here. One is the color of the sky after you defeat the Vacuous Spider and the Mensis secret ritual is revealed. The sky there is a very pale blue, like a body drained of blood. I think there's also a message placed in Yahar'gul, Unseen Village that calls back to that. This is before the ritual is revealed, so when you're kidnapped and go to Yahar'gul, you don't know what it could mean yet. Then, after the ritual, you could look at it again and it'll dawn on you… That was my intention, anyway, but I have to admit, that's probably a bit tough to pick up on (laughs). But either way, this leads to the interpretation that “seek paleblood” refers to uncovering that ritual and putting a stop to it.

Attached: paleblood sky.jpg (1280x720, 58K)

You seem to know your shit. Can I get a quick rundown on the Vilebloods and Logarius?

some people think Rom was a literal retarded baby that turned into a spider

Next time instead of making a presentation for my 100 students class I'll put items on the floor with descriptions and they will have to pick them all and put together the phrases to understand the story

I played the game on release (like many other people) and that’s how we all did it, and that’s how the devs intended you to do it, what else what you suggest? watching a video on YouTube? fuck you buddy

You read more items, and learn what the fuck happened to Yharnam. The cocktail literally starts to paint a picture, you fucking moron.

On top of that, it teaches gameplay elements with the fire tidbit. Holy fuck, you're stupid.

>being this assblasted
Can you explain to me how gameplay elements relate in any way to OP's post about the game's plot? Sure, if you read a massive amount of items you start to get an understanding of it but telling a new player to just sit down and read items is terrible advice, you might just be too autistic to realize that.

nice sword choice

The way information is conveyed in the game is pretty terrible.Information is all over the place, you read an item and you don't know if it's related to some endgame boss or early stuff. At the end of the game you just don't bother reading the items again

what the H*ck is paleblood

I recommend you play through the game, watch the cutscenes, explore the world and stuff and yes occasionally read item descriptions. You don't just sit around and "REEEEAD THE FUCKING ITEMS"

see

Moon Presence

Nobody cares about your meme game

>story taht's all just a dream
>boss betrays you and revealed as the antagonist (wow didn't see that coming)
>guns yet can't increase amount of ammo you can hold by a decent amount
>can't dual weild guns
>doesn't allow you to play like a tps yet includes guns
>aliens out of nowhere

But the sky he describes is far from pale. What a hack

Not a fan of this game
>game revealed to be a dream at the end
>final boss is the person guiding you throughout the game (what a surprise)
>projectile weapons yet cannot hold a decent amount of ammunition (like arrows in Dark Souls)
>can't hold 2 guns at the same time
>no ability to play like a shooter despite the fact guns are in the game
>aliens shoehorned into the game because werewolves weren't wacky enough

Based.

They were not trying to beckon Kos all this time, their plain with the Mensis Brain failed so they gave up and went inside.

>find a new item
>immediately check what it does and what the flavortext says
>contemplate, reflect, move on
everyone does this, I mean I hope so anyway

>can't hold 2 guns at the same time
shit i never knew i needed this

>gherman isn’t your boss
>increase blood vial capacity by five with a rune, use blood bullets and stop talking ignorant shit
>bloodtinge build with Evelyn and reiterspalach
>see above
>valid but don’t really see how it’s a negative since it worked in the game and started ramping up the craziness which conceptually is fleshed out in the dlc
play the game if you wanna criticize it

Gonna play the game again from scratch and try to make sense of this fucking game without going on youtube.

The Executioners are a strange faction. They predate the Healing Church even (the Church's attire was styled after theirs), which suggests conflict between the Vilebloods and the Executioners was the norm before the Church's establishment. Logarius was the one to lead a band into Cainhurst to kill them. This was orchestrated by the Church. Why? Well from what learn from Arianna's blood vial and Alfred's dialogue, there seems to be a fixation on their "impurity". A byrgenwerth scholar managed to smuggle "forbidden" blood to the Cainhurst nobles, after the initial scholars found the "holy medium" from which they harvested the blood from. Note that the Church's goal is ascension of humanity via the "old blood" and are finding ways to make it usable without people turning into beast. To them, Vilebloods are a genuine threat to their blood's purity, so using Logarius and his people would seem wise to mitigate risk of cross contamination.

You can’t. Everyone here just watched the youtube videos and read the theories.

There's going to be a sequel so chill and wait for answers.

The great ones aren't rabid though.

>There's going to be a sequel

Attached: 1509551930994.jpg (645x729, 26K)

Okay, but have you considered that you can be engaged by how a story is told and Bloodborne isn't some kind of sterile receptacle designed to contain and deliver information that's easy for everyone to understand?

Basically, Ayyyuwoki

Attached: ayyyuwokilmao.webm (746x420, 2.92M)

What about the people who made the YouTube videos? How did they make sense of things?

So, Logarius is just eternally guarding Analise so that no more Vilebloods can come to be?

>imagine not playing the game at launch and forming your own opinion on the story
don’t lump everyone in with brainlets who can’t think for themselves

When has Miyazaki ever made a sequel that gave answers and didn't just introduce more questions

You can. Reiterpallasch and Evelyn +bone ash, with a BT build is fun.

Yes. He's guarding the last Vileblood, which happens to be immortal due to her blood.

Attached: Cainhurst Portriat of Annalise.jpg (1038x994, 133K)

there aren’t really any important questions left to answer though unless you go back to the very beginning and the pthumerians

I understand that the game was possibly designed to fustrate and demotivate the player from knowing the whole story but they could give us at least 50% of the story in a well streamlined way instead of putting everything into items. You play in a post-apocalyptic scenario like any other souls game and you rarely get fed information about what happened in the past. It's also pretty hard to believe that the player character wouldn't be curious and ask what has happened to the NPCs.Especially the Oedon Chapel npcs who know much more than they actually say

Here's a repost of
"In a nutshell, you're an attack dog and Gehrman's a house dog and Moon Presence is 'Man'. Your relationship with the Presence is similar to that of a relationship between a man and his dog: the dog doesn't understand what is happening or why. All the dog knows is 'attack', 'eat', 'shit', 'sleep', and other "doggie" things. A dog knows how to get through a doggie-door and interface with man's world... but he doesn't understand much more. He doesn't know the geometry of the world, or why things are happening, or even how they're happening. All the attack dog knows is mostly "Attack!"
Depending on what you do throughout the course of the game, there are 3 possibilities: 1. you are a good attack dog and you go back to the doggie world to be with your dog friends in your dog houses; 2. you are such a good attack dog that you attack and kill the house dog and That Man makes the new house dog and you love one another; 3. after killing the house dog, you seen "enough shit" over your journey that your primitive doggie brain knows That Man fucked you over. So, when he comes to make you the new house dog, you snatch his throat out instead. This turns you into a newborn human baby for whatever reason. You are still a retarded child, but there is potential. "

How does Alfred kill her, if she's immortal?

A night of curses... a night to remember. Wouldn't you say, friend?

spoiler: he didn't

Attached: 1551408272745.jpg (480x515, 162K)

>implying that less than 50% of the story is possible to understand by observing the environments and talking to npcs alone
>wondering why your hunter isn’t going around asking questions of the npcs
the whole beginning of the game sets you up for this, I don’t understand how you can be THAT confused about what’s happening

Are you sure?

Attached: maxresdefault-164.jpg (1280x720, 109K)

Take a closer look at her chair

It isn't designed to frustrate or demotivate you, it's designed so that you can have fun piecing it together. I actually agree with you that the basic plot is too difficult to understand though (and I'm someone who understands it).

He isn't trying to kill her, he's trying to cripple her. He knows she's immortal, but she can't stir up trouble when she's mashed up.

You are Hunter McBlood, beast hunter. This town is all fucked up with beasts, go hunt them. Oh whoops turns out the church of this town was hiding some old god shit and everything is way more fucked than once thought. Hunter, you're in way too deep and messing with this any further is just gonna fuck you up, let me kill you so you can be free of this fate.
>Yes: You Die.
>No: You get fucked by old gods
>No+: You fuck the old gods and become the new old gods
It's an extremely simple story. There's items and minor details that speak of the world and the backstory but the main story itself that the player experiences firsthand isn't particular deep or hard to grasp.

He didn't. He remarks on her sorry, disabled state, but he has no idea on the true nature of the undying queen. Thinking he fulfilled his duty and honored him in martyrdom, he lays his crown on the grave and commits seppuku.

Attached: 1550289191053.jpg (700x700, 37K)

...he honored Logarius, that is.

Attached: logarius_executioner_2_by_timofeystepanov_dbow42c-fullview.jpg (1023x755, 63K)

Not true, in Japanese he outright says Annalise is immortal, but she won't be able to do anything after what he has done to her.

If you can't piece together the basic plot in a conventional way(by playing the game at your own pace) and have to resort to going to youtube to know everything about every character then I'd say there is a problem.
This is not only bloodborne's problem, every souls game has this problem and it seems like Sekiro will be different since it is more story driven and you can follow the plot pretty easily on your own

Attached: 34568684358567.jpg (1000x1000, 272K)

Demon's Souls didn't really have the issue, Dark Souls didn't either. Dark Souls III wasn't too bad in this sense too.

Plague of grips did a good job of summarizing it.
The body of Kos brought a destiny to Yharnamites. When Willem first saw the corpse of the unknowable god being prodded by a young child with a stick, he discovered a plan formulating within him. After several hours of setting off firecrackers in its asshole, that plan was complete. After several more hours of stuffing frogs into Kos' mouth, that plan was... it was laid in Willem's mind. It would only take several more days of throwing m-80s at the body of she that fell from the heavens before that plan would begin. And that plan was to cut out peoples' eyes and shove them up their noses. That's probably the best way to get them to the brain. That way those eyes would open, and humans would at last be able to see something or another. Probably. Strangely, the first volunteers began to go insane. Huh. After a few more rounds of shooting roman candles into Kos' four week old corpse, Willem and his disciple, Laurence, had a schism of philosophy. Willem, who wished to continue carving out eyes and putting them in holes, and Laurence, who wished to keep fucking with Kos' corpse. The division was never reconciled, the corpse of Kos was abandoned, and the local fireworks factory went out of business. Such was the destiny of Yharnam, and the beginning of the end.

wash your fucking hands it looks like you work in mud

based black user, I love you

Oh, well in that incase, he thought he incapacitated her and rendered her harmless. That's not the case, and he wasn't aware of it. Fucking nip2engrish translations fuck up my lore autism every time.

You have good taste, for a negro.

Attached: Matyr.jpg (1920x1080, 187K)

Implying that she could've done anything with Logarius keeping her confined in the throne room?

if you have to go on YouTube to understand the plot of bloodborne on a basic level you dumb

I have no idea how paleblood is written in japanese, but I know pale on its own is 青白い or 真っ青 (blue white, deep blue) so it seems like the word is associated with the color blue over there instead of just white

Oh right,Demon Soul's was easy to follow. They had this long text narrations in the beginning and ending where it explained mostly what happened, some information about the bosses however were left out and you have to check the wikis.

Video?

Alfred didn't want Logarius to be trapped there either though.
Boss information in Demon's Souls is usually given to you pretty plainly, such as in Archstone text, but it's not really related to the basic story / plot anyway.

I've been scouring this shit board for a good chance to talk about the lore. Nice that I blasted some steam. Might try my best to answer other areas of the game's "narrative". Anything else, OP?

Attached: 1449622988492.jpg (435x750, 102K)

It definitely had the least plot related bosses in the game, especially that yellow guy in the last level of one of the archstones

Why do idiots think it's Kos, when it's Kosm?

if the mensis ritual is the source of beasts

what's the point of the old blood

It's been a while since I've played the game (so I might be misremembering), but I don't recall Alfred making any comment on Logarius when he arrives at Cainhurst. Shouldn't he be pissed that the player hunter killed Logarius?

What do you expect from Sekiro

Give me a rundown on the DLC, specifically the events that transpired at the Fishing Hamlet.

I can smell a Kosfag a mile away

Attached: 1457892183976.jpg (303x542, 51K)

The scourge of the beast and beasthood are two separate things. Blood opens up the possibility for beasthood, the scourge is an affliction that pushes you towards that possibility.
"In his time Master Logarius led his Executioners into Cainhurst Castle to cleanse it of the Vilebloods, but all did not go well. And Master Logarius became a blessed anchor, guarding us from evil. Tragic, tragic times... That Master Logarius should be abandoned in the accursed domain of the Vilebloods. I must free him, so that he may be properly honoured in martyrdom."

What was her endgame?

Attached: mp.jpg (1280x720, 91K)

>her
MP literally impregnates multiple women throughout the game.

Who?

Moon Presence is outright called a her in the cut content, and is named Flora which is a feminine name. Also, no she doesn't.

Again, to rephrase here beasthood occurs in isolated cases. The old blood inherently does this. It just so happens when the "Red Moon hangs low, the line between man and beast is blurred", and accentuates into a beast plague.

Hopefully its good.

Kos is the giant fish waifu sprawled on the coast. She died, her dead carcass washed up on the shore. But her unborn child was still alive.
What transpired in the Hamlet was simple. Church sent out an armed party to investigate the whisperings of a great one washed up on the shore of a hamlet. The party is confirmed to consist of Maria and Gehrman. As they arrived, it seemed as if the inhabitants were venerating the corpse. The inhabitants also look very deformed. It has been suggested that they were infected by the parasites that infested Kos' body (description of the Kos Parasite) and thus mutated them. Of course, they were openly hostile to the party, and they began hacking their way through. Eventually, Gehrman finds the corpse, cuts it open, and presumably kills the unborn orphan. Why do I think it him specifically?
When you kill Orphan and return to the Hunter's dream, the doll will remark:
>"Oh, good hunter. I can hear Gehrman sleeping. On any other night, he'd be restless. But on this night, he sounds so very calm. ...perhaps something has eased his suffering"
The appearance of the old, shriveled orphan is also reminiscent of Gehrman, but take that as you will.

Attached: back in my workshop.jpg (560x574, 231K)

...oh fuck, I meant Byrgenwerth (not the Church) that sent the raiding party.

Attached: 1549928820369.png (750x677, 125K)

You came to Yharnham because you are sick. Apparently, it's home to a miracle cure panacea. You get cured, but it turns out that you've come at a VERY bad time. The town's locked down, mobs roam the streets, beasts prowl the shadows, and the night never seems to end. If you want to escape this godforsaken city, you'll have to find out why.

I copy pasted the description of this page.

It also tells the story basically too.
youtube.com/watch?v=PQjm5ApVTv8

doesn’t that ignore implications that the church and by extension the early hunters under their control (Maria and Gehrman) conducted experiments on the people in the village? otherwise what are they so ashamed of that happened there?

Due to the horrors she witnessed, Maria throws her beloved weapon down a well, and vows to ease suffering in the world in any way possible. She is then assigned a position as a caretaker to the Church's test patients. In the early days, since the discovery of the marine great one Kos, they assumed that the great ones were associated with the oceans. So this gives some context as to why so many patients remark about waves and dripping sounds. These test subjects were way for the Church to find a possible path to ascension and evolution. Lady Maria, however couldn't take it any more and took her own life. It seemed like she really cared for the patients because they all seem to call out for her, and the discription of the balcony key states:
>"Key to the balcony on the first floor of the Research Hall. Lady Maria of the Astral Clocktower gave this to the patient, Adeline. Maria had hoped Adeline would find comfort in the faint breeze that carried the scent of flowers from the outside, but Adeline couldn't fathom her intentions."

Remember that this nightmare was constructed by the Orphan, which is why he is classed as a great one. Those that participated in the massacre of the hamlet, and those by proxy (which also explains Laurence's beastly presence there), were doomed to stay in the nightmare.

Attached: raquel-cornejo-lady-maria-lore.jpg (1754x4330, 1.28M)

Speaking of experiments, am I right to deduce that the enemies we encounter in the Research Hall are the residents of the hamlet that were experimented on by the Healing Church in order to create Kin to contact the Great Ones?

>What transpired in the Hamlet was simple. Church sent out an armed party to investigate the whisperings of a great one washed up on the shore of a hamlet.
The Healing Church didn't even exist at the time of the Fishing Hamlet, and it was the villagers of the hamlet who beckoned Kos which resulted in her death. It's never said outright (except in the guide), but the hunters killed Kos, and it's implied they killed her at sea.

I don't have that much of an issue with anything else you're saying though, except the inhabitants of the Fishing Hamlet being hostile to Byrgenwerth and the hunters. It's more likely they were manipulated into beckoning Kos by Byrgenwerth, and then they were betrayed.

Yea you got that right. Also, note this , I fucked up there.

>The Healing Church didn't even exist at the time of the Fishing Hamlet

Attached: Denton.jpg (600x733, 29K)

It was Oedon

Nah, he's right. I fucked up. The Fishing Hamlet massacre occurred during Byrgenwerth. The event predates the Church's establishment.

Attached: kos(m).jpg (898x298, 89K)

> In the early days, since the discovery of the marine great one Kos, they assumed that the great ones were associated with the oceans.
This description is actually just misleadingly worded. What it should convey is that "early in the Healing Church they discovered the link between water and the Great Ones." It's written in such a way that it implies it was an early mistaken belief held by the Healing Church, but the Great Ones are actually associated with water, so they were right and it's something they held onto.
>Remember that this nightmare was constructed by the Orphan, which is why he is classed as a great one. Those that participated in the massacre of the hamlet, and those by proxy (which also explains Laurence's beastly presence there), were doomed to stay in the nightmare.
It was probably created by Kos, because she's the one who was beckoned to lay the curse of blood on the hunters. The Orphan is Kos is just an embodiment of the curse and the sins of the hunters which "feeds the nightmare."
No, they're Yharnamites. A lot of orphans, some Blood Saints, just random people mostly. Adeline says outright she used to be a Blood Saint for example.

Sure, the Hamlet Priest is muttering "Byrgenwerth... Byrgenwerth..." and after Laurence left to found the Healing Church there were like three people remaining at Byrgenwerth anyway.

What were each of the chalice dungeons historically in the setting before turning into dungeon ruins? I get the main Pthumerian one but how do the other 3 fit into the setting and history?

>What it should convey is that "early in the Healing Church they discovered the link between water and the Great Ones." It's written in such a way that it implies it was an early mistaken belief held by the Healing Church, but the Great Ones are actually associated with water, so they were right and it's something they held onto
>It was probably created by Kos, because she's the one who was beckoned to lay the curse of blood on the hunters. The Orphan is Kos is just an embodiment of the curse and the sins of the hunters which "feeds the nightmare."
Both of these are pretty apt descriptions.
I'm slightly rusty on lore, forgive senpai, it's been awhile since we had a comfy lore thread.

Attached: 1549996989082.jpg (700x583, 121K)

I feel like a brainlet, but what is a Blood Saint? Are they affiliated with the Healing Church?

Isz was Great One land. Pthumeru was superhuman Pthumerian land. Loran was discover blood and unleash beasthood pre-Yharnam land, and Yharnam is the next Loran.

its tangible. AMA.

Blood saints are essentially those that can have their blood harvested and used as healing.

Attached: Sister.Adella.full.2136039.png (985x1664, 558K)

What's the significance of Vicar Amelia?

And the Hintercolm?
Also Isz was Great One land? Where did that get mentioned?

Yea they, work for the Healing Church. Who else, really?

It's ok user. I'm not going to call you a fag and I'm glad you're engaging in the lore. :-)
A Blood Saint is a nun of the Healing Church who's used as a vessel for the special blood so it can be distributed to the populace of Yharnam.

Another poor Church goon who was suckered into believing in the "holiness" of their G-Virus medicine. You put her out of her misery.

I don't have anything to add i'm just glad everyone is having a good time.

Hintertombs isn't really anything, it's just the peripheral bits of the dungeon that expand out.
>Also Isz was Great One land? Where did that get mentioned?
"The land of Izs lies in contact with the cosmos,
which allowed the Great Ones to function on transcendental planes of thought."

Pthumeru, Isz and Loran were all built by Pthumerians.
Ithyll was the captial and when Pthumerians discovered Great One graves in Isz they bargained with them to become the eternal guardians in exchange for sweet ass alien blood and fire powers.
After Pthumerians disgraced the pact they made with the Great Ones they were cursed (presumably by Oedon) to have writhing vermin forever in their blood which turns them into beasts and can animate their corpses (undead loran darkbeast) which wiped out most of Loran and annihilated Ithyll.
The reason that the architecture of all 3 locations looks similar is because they were all built and inhabited by Pthus at one point.

She's the latest head of the Healing Church.

Regardless of the game, lore threads seem to always ward off shitposters.

the next vicar in line to act as a proxy between the masses and the healing church.
There is a note addressed to her on the right of the stairwell in the great cathedral.

Vicars are leaders of the Church. Amelia must have the last of a long line of vicars, since the very first one, Laurence. And as leaders, they oversaw the operations of the Church. I doubt Amelia was unaware of their misdoings.

Attached: Vicar.Amelia.full.2136046.png (1151x1724, 1.13M)

The reason Miyazaki is a hack is because al his games suck without the DLC. This is fact.

*must have been

the ambiguous nature of BB lore is what keeps /bbg/ alive. You could spend 200 posts hypothesizing the timeline of Yarhar'gul in any given thread.

>the reasearch hall was meant to be playable in the main game
How sick would that have been?
It really expands the Upper Cathedral Ward thing,

A 2nd DLC would've been a godsend.

TOH was actually 2 planned DLCs combined into one.

Is it implied that the Cleric Beast was a former vicar and met the same fate as Laurence and Amelia?

Church Hunter succumbing to the mutation. Hence the badge it drops.

Wow guys, this is a rare thread to come by (in terms of shitposting). I'm playing the game right now through PS Now, and I'm enjoying it a lot (finally!). But I cant seem to be able to perform gestures, and I think there are some stuff you get from using gestures at specific points in the game, correct?

Any of you bros think about starting a lore channel? I started one recently to prepare for Sekiro and I've been doing some Bloodborne content but I don't know if I like editing videos. I just want to challenge what people believe by providing compelling alternatives. I hate how as soon as a somewhat decent answer is found it's treated like it's undeniable canon. There's so much garbage that sneaks its way into the common consensus, and so much is overlooked.
"Cleric Beast" = cleric, probably.

Apparently it was supposed to be this guy who you met.

Attached: UnusedNPC01.png (1279x720, 848K)

also the patients were force-fed so much sea water that they began to produce brain fluid in their swollen heads and had visions of things so deep in the ocean it may as well have been the cosmos.
>do you think the water drips...even. at the bottom of the ocean...

Hit the left side of your touch pad to open the gestures tab.

To expand further on the world, the nature of the "Dreamlands" in Bloodborne (or simply Nightmares) were finally revealed when the DLC came (good times). Nightmares are stacked. Here's how it goes from highest to lowest.
>Nightmare of Mensis
>Nightmare Frontier (you can visibly see the building higher from where you are in the Frontier)
>Fishing Hamlet (you can see ship masts from the Frontier, near Amygdala's arena)
>The Hunter's Nightmare (you see the buildings of through the waters when you step into the Hamlet the 1st time and a snail woman falls from the sky from where you pick the Pizza Cutter)
>The Walking World (from which a lot of it is implied that the "Cosmos" is in the Sky, we also see a telescope at the Byrgenwerth college)
>Labyrinths and the Chalice Dungeons

Correct. There's a harmless enemy in the game that you perform the gesture to and receive a rune.

Attached: Nightmare_Yharnam_Underwater.jpg (1920x1080, 121K)

Ive got a build made for this kind of thing.
>50Bloodtinge and the right gems gives 430dmg on a Reiter shot and 300+ on an Evelyn shot
>BoneMarrowAsh on the Evelyn and shoot at cooperators (with lightning reiter) until I get a parry then hit with the BMA Evelyn for 1000+ dmg
>quicken bone + the dual pistols is crazy because shooting doesn't consume stamina so you can dodge and parry all day and no one can get close to you

Is it known how Nightmares are created? In Japanese, Micolash's title literally translates to 'lord of the nightmare' implying that he created it.

What is the timeline on Yarhar'gul.

The plot itself is on the items, the npcs, the bosses, the areas, the whole world itself.
In order to comprehend the story and lore you need to connect everything.

It is talking about the moon.
The moon presence.

Micolash studied ways to enter it. He's Lord in the sense that he's one of the only semi-lucid beings in that tier of the Nightmare and thus a head honcho by default.

>that he's one of the only semi-lucid beings in that tier of the Nightmare
What about the Brain of Mensis?

Well, I'm using a XBOX One controller, so unfortunately I can't do that.

I remember that one, the Brain right? And the rune you get is a really good one for Blood Echoes, though nothing game breaking thankfully. I thought though you had to perform a gesture in order to unlock some door, no? And that made me panic actually, since I can't find a workaround for these buttons to function (even through a DS4 emulator program etc.)

Why don't you put a little mental effort and think the game through? Might even replay it.

The scattered flesh still lives, ready to be restored by any of her followers.

I think that Mensis as a collective was able to create the nightmare of mensis at the cost of frying all of their brains except maybe a dozen.
Mico is the 'lord' in the sense that he rules it but the mensis nightmare doesn't truly end until you kill Mergo.

The other way is to hold the X button (A on an Xbox controller) and physically move the controller. Not sure if that'll work, though, because you seem to be playing with an unconventional set up.

In spite of the Lovecraft memes, the "Great" eldritch beings in the setting can be physically killed and restrained by humans in spite of their great mystical/mental powers. The college (read: Micolash and his goons) chanced upon the Brain in the wilderness of the nightmare, enslaved it, and forced it to act as a weapon/security system. It is notably non-aggressive if approached with the diplomatic triangle gesture after you drop it into the pit.

I will explain one topic you think you understand fully, but you actually don't. Here are your options, choose wisely:

Mensis Brain
Eyes
Moon
Old blood
Mercury
Oedon

You mean ulitize the sisaxis or whatever it is called, for motion controls? That too doesn't work.
I've read though that the Steam controller has this similar function, that DOES work this way (on PS Now at least).

Sometimes I swear these games have more cut content than game itself. Bloodborne especially with that data miner guy who has found boatloads of stuff.
He just found some cut dialogue from the DLC where you give Lady Yharnam's stone to the fish priest guy for more lore.

Wait, the brain is a great one? Isn't is some kind of grotesque human construct?

its only non-aggresive because its means of killing people is reflecting moonlight and shooting frenzy beams at people. in the pit there is no moonlight to reflect so it cant defend itself.

The "Host" of a Nightmare is just a title it seems. There's absolutely nothing suggesting that the existence of Nightmare is predicated on a "Host". And so far, only Micolash has this title.

The timeline suggests that whatever the mensis ritual was (), it happened a long time ago due to the state it is in. There are petrified corpses of the scholars and people wearing the Mensis Cage (which functions as an antenna that facilitates contact with the G.O.s) and growth of vines around their bodies. As for the reanimation of corpses, it's possible that it was an unintended consequence of the Ritual. Dead bodies probably attracted all these Pthumerian bell maidens from elsewhere, maybe due to rifts between the real world and the nightmares.

Brain of Mensis is described as having its eyes "rotten" after being discovered the Mensis Scholars. We know that eyes are a great deal to Mensis (see Master Wilhelm's teachings and Mico's dialogue). The Brain, albeit a legitimate G.O. (see the living string description), it was ultimately useless, and was hauled up for the lulz. So from where else should they attain evolution and ascension via eyes? Cue this .

Is Oedon connected to Mercury or Blood and what is the significance of either.

You might be one of the stupidest people I've seen post in a long while. Jesus fucking Christ, legitimate brainlet here.

I've been going down the rabbit hole on Bloodborne's cut content and it's pretty crazy. I always felt like the game felt shorter than other Souls games which would explain why there's so much. There's a lot of fully modeled and animated fire enemies which indicates that there would've been a lava-esque level which is interesting to how that would've fit in the game.

There's also this thing.

>mensis ritual happened long ago
The moon presence was turning people into beasts very recently. This is why the hunt is so terrible tonight. Therefore the mensis ritual must have begun on the night of that hunt.
Remember that regular hunts only last a single night but the night of the game occurs over many days which is why people remark on "the night is so long" and "I'm running out of incense".
Therefore it makes sense that the night of the hunt begins as you start the game because its the first night in a long time that shit starts going really wrong.

Why did you have to kill mergo to end the dream?
What did it accomplish?
What's with the baby laughing?
Is the entire game based on this baby being unhappy and causing all this shit.
Did all the other hunters in the graveyard do the same shit as you?
Kill old ones the entire game.

I think that a lava level would have only worked/fitted in the Chalice Dungeons. But as long as it's not DS1 level of eyesore, then who knows, it could be good.

Mensis Brain

Question, was the dream conceived to contain the Old Ones, or is it the doing of Old Ones?

Read the first few posts, user.

Yeah, the enemies definitely don't fit with the aesthetic at all, but they seem to pretty far in development. It's weird.
youtube.com/watch?v=60N1tB38urQ

The Moon Presence doesn't turn people into beasts, it's literally helping the hunters fight G.O. and their influence.

Why does killing the baby and mergo stop the curse?
Did all the other hunters have to end the curse in their dreams as well.
Are there different version of the old ones and Graham in their dreams.
Did they all kill the baby?

I really liked the story in BB. Actually I loved it in BB, DaS1, and DeS. I dunno but I loved the themes they had going on.

Attached: 1527065371948.gif (400x332, 2M)

Which dream? The dream that trapped the Old Hunters, the dream that held Kosm's corpse? The dream that you're in after "waking up?" The Hunter's dream?

That's pretty neat actually!

img.4plebs.org/boards/tg/image/1460/08/1460080584810.pdf
is a neat read.

You should check out all of that guy's videos. There is a lot of cool cut content.

The Hunter's Dream was conceived by the Moon Presence. And it was Laurence who beckoned it with the eye of the cord.
>"The nameless moon presence beckoned by Laurence and his associates. Paleblood." - Lecture Building
It's apparent that Gehrman was there too during the beckoning and was "adopted" by the Moon Presence, forcibly (see Gehrman's rare dialogue).

Attached: Moon.Presence.full.2294658.gif (513x300, 954K)

Holy shit man, I forgot that they are supposedly stacked and are multiple.

Attached: 1518262853162.jpg (499x810, 47K)

There's always a need for more when you finish a game, so these videos will surely scratch the itch just fine, thanks user!

the proximity of the moon presence is equal to the proximity of the moon
When the red moon hangs low the line between man and beast is blurred.
And so when the moon presence was beckoned before in old yharnam it turned 50% of the citizens into beasts and they had to burn it to the ground and seal it off.

That's cheating!!! I said one!!!
Firstly, "old blood" is never written in Bloodborne. It's always "old blood." Westerners read "old blood" and add the capitalization because it makes more sense to them without the Shinto cultural influence. How they think about it is something like "it's the ancient blood of the gods that's too eldritch and powerful for us", so they conceptualize it as a specific kind of blood (Great One blood) which is only a half-truth. Old blood literally means "blood that is very old" and the "oldness" is synonymous with stagnation, corruption and rot. You can see this association more clearly in the Dark Souls III DLC, the Painted World of Ariandel. In that, the painted world has become too old, so it's beginning to rot.
The Mensis Brain is what's called an "Evil Eye", in fact it's called EvilEye outright in the file names. However, there are two types of Evil Eyes. One type is a cursed gaze that spreads misfortune, and the other type is a talisman that reflects a cursed gaze. The Mensis Brain is the latter. It was supposed to reflect the blue moonlight of the Nightmare of Mensis which would allow the scholars to commune and be elevated by arcane energy, but because the Mensis Brain was rotten and it had "eyes of an evil sort" it took in the blue moonlight and it reflected out as corrupted red moonlight which causes frenzy and beasthood and so on. This is why there are people praying in front of it. That's why when you plunge it into the darkness it no longer hurts you, but it gives you a moon rune. It has no moonlight to reflect, but it has been touched by the moon. The Mensis scholars couldn't plunge it into the darkness because they couldn't get to the switch, and after trying and failing, they locked it away and went inside.

Dude, Gehrman's dialogue when he's asleep is trippy!

What are the false Amygdalas? Are they ascended spider students or minions of the great Amygdala?

Is the Mensis ritual happening as we play the game or did it happen long ago and killing Rom just unveiled this? How did the Mensis scholars obtain Mergo to use? What was the Brain? What the heck is The One Reborn?

Why are there are four "third" cords?

What the heck was Ludwig talking about in pic related?

Attached: ludwig.jpg (1280x720, 190K)

they are certainly stacked. You can actually see each dream from the other and identify which layer of nightmare you are currently on.

>Firstly, "old blood" is never written in Bloodborne. It's always "old blood."
I meant to say here "Old Blood" is never written in Bloodborne, because it's never capitalized. I'm used to writing "old blood" so I messed it up here.

I was scared shitless when Santa Claus kidnapped me. Everything was too strong for me, and the architecture, lighting, enemy design, and that fucking ambient music had me shitting my pants.
Yahar'Gul is a masterpiece.

organization discovers ancient burial ground under city and it fucks up their whole civilization, you come in in the last 10% of the story to commit the world ending ritual and then decide whether you want to die before it gets more fucked, kill the guy who tells you its gonna get more fucked or make it extra fucked yourself

I'll rephrase then.
Assuming that Oedon is connected to either Blood or Mercury what is their significance in relation to the Great One Oedon.

What goal is MP trying to achieve with the Hunter's Dream and why was Gehrman picked as the surrogate?

I don't remember that bit about how the Moon Presence was first summoned turned people with beast blood in them into fullblown beasts, since the Moon Presence isn't the reason for the red moon from what I remember.

>implying I can even beat it once

topkek, comrade.

Oedon's essence is blood, but he's seeking out mercury corrupted women to bear his children.

Something tells me all Amygdalas are the same being, just that it transcends the physical space and so she's in many places at once. That's why only in the Nightmare you can kill it. And even then, only a version of it.

So it's both corrupted, but it's also blood wit hspecial properties.

Yeah, the thing in the blood that is a catalyst / medium is the same thing that becomes corrupted, because it's a catalyst for bad and good. Humans are very beastly, so when they take blood it's usually just the bad that's manifested by the blood.

they're just lesser amygdalas I think.
>mensis
This is the hardest part to pin down about bloodborne. There is a number of posts trying to explain it above.
>chords
there are 4 because there happened to be 4 vessels I think. But only 3 thirds are required to begin ascension.
>ludwig
He was the first church hunter and so he led the ideals and methods for early hunting. He even went into the chalice dungeons.
He found his moonlight sword in the dungeons and allowed it to comfort him in testing times, even during a hunt when he was uncertain of something he would 'follow the lights' which were very possibly the "rally sprites" that you see when you get damaged.
He was never a dreaming hunter but he was driven mad by the hunt still, and so he was cursed to the nightmare.
He asks if his church hunters are the "honorable spartans he hoped they would be" and they aren't because they routinely kidnap yharnamites to experiment on and have the authority to kill someone if they even think they see a hint of beastly behavior surfacing.

>100 pages of autism
And I'm still going to read it. I'm pretty sure I read it years ago, but I'll do it anyway.

its my favorite level once the blood moon drops.
Its the real signifier that everything has gone to shit and the city design was really good.
shame that the boss was piss.

>mercury corrupted women
Why are they corrupt with mercury?
If Oedons essence is blood is his essence also vermin?

The notes throughout the game explain the moon presence thing. Trust me dude.

Everything related to the reveal and the clusterfuck that ensues blew my mind. I had no fucking clue what was happening. More so when I looked back at all the weird shit that I had witnessed before that point and started to connect the dots.

I don't think they're saying the Moon Presence is doing it, pretty sure it's about the literal Moon. I'm more sure the Paleblood bullshit is the Moon Presence since it "fixes" you then makes you take Gerhman's place.

>What goal is MP trying to achieve?
Moon Presence is a very odd one. It's not entirely certain what her motives are, but we do know this
>red moon hangs low = scourge of beasts
>we see the MP descend towards us when the moon is red
This effectively shows that the red moon is indeed the work of the MP or is MP itself. The beastly scourge is the MP's doing. We also know that the G.O.s have an affinity for children, as they cannot successfully give birth to one themselves.
> "When the red moon hangs low, the line between man and beast is blurred. And when the Great Ones descend, a womb will be blessed with child."
That's all I can really get from MP, it's one area I haven't thought much of. I'm sure other anons have compelling theories.

>why was Gehrman picked as the surrogate?
Again, I think he was forcibly chosen by accident when Laurence beckoned it.

Attached: Moon.gif (540x228, 2.95M)

How it works is that mercury in bodies of liquid (water and blood) sinks to the bottom and forms the sediment. It has a miraculous quality to it which allows things that sink to the mercury to transform into their "true selves." However, because mankind are inherently beastly in Bloodborne, when the Human Dregs / Blood Dregs sink into the mercury from within the body, they make it noxious, corrupt and foul things, such as vermin, are manifested. This state of corruption is what Oedon is after.

Well, Gehrman was also VERY powerful, and the "first Hunter", so he was probably not picked by accident.

>The Mensis scholars couldn't plunge it into the darkness because they couldn't get to the switch, and after trying and failing, they locked it away and went inside.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong about how this played out. Living String description says the Brain was "retrieved" and if you look at pic related you can see that it's chained up and has stakes driven through it. I think this implies it was lifted out of the dark pit from where it was found.

The Mensis scholars didn't die immediately upon entering the nightmare, they successfully entered it and had some level of control. They discovered the brain in the pit, saw that it was harmless, and lifted it out. They probably had a ceremony prepared and were gathered around the lifting tower ready for ascension. It gave them what they wanted, ascension, but in an evil and rotten way. This explains all various enemies of the Nightmare.

Micolash and some other scholars escaped to the Loft, where they pray for Kos to grant their wish. Apparently they didn't learn their lesson from the brain.

Attached: BrainofMensis.png (591x591, 596K)

>vermin are manifested from blood dregs / mercury
But Oedon manifested vermin into Pthumerians when they betrayed the great ones.

>a womb will be blessed with child
Is there any reason why Iosefka and Arianna were chosen or is it just random?

Arianna is a descendant of Vilebloods. Iosefka isn't 100% clear if she got pregnant from an G.O. or if her's isn't a "natural" pregnancy.

I can't recall about the Iosefka impostor, but Arianna's case had something to do with being related to Cainhurst.

utter brainlet if you can't understand
go read the pale blood google doc

There's zero evidence for this and it isn't implied anywhere. Vermin are just a shorthand for corruption because the game has a Shinto slant. That's why there are little biting insects that feed on blood in Dark Souls III as well.
Right, it was retrieved, they beckoned it using the rotted materials you find all over the Nightmare of Mensis. It was after they realized it was rotten and its eyes were evil they tried plunging it into the darkness. You can see the dead Healing Church corpses on the way to the switch. What the community doesn't understand about Bloodborne, which also makes understanding the Mensis Brain impossible, is that the source of arcane energy in Bloodborne is moonlight.

What's the significance, from the Great One's perspective, that she's a Vileblood?

Impostor Iosefka isn't pregnant at all, she just used the cord to get eyes on the inside and then she became a host to phantasms.

I honestly can't remember, it's been way too long.

You might have a point here. Gehrman's was given the title of being the "First Hunter" due to his skills and techniques that would later be adopted by later generations. Maybe the MP was after a strong individual, which then makes it more clearer as to why it immediatly chooses us over Gehrman without hesitation.

Iosefka? No, I don't think so. The celestials are there as attennas (if the celestial EMISSARY bossfight is any indication). And from what we learn from the game, these cords are also used to facilitate contact with the cosmos, so maybe she did steal it for herself instead of being impregnated. She also isn't experiencing the same symptoms as Arianna as she underwent pregnancy, so that's a big giveaway that Iosefka isn't undergoing pregnancy but she has consumed a cord.

Attached: Iosefka and Vicar.png (2000x1748, 2.45M)

Can somebody tell me why killing mergo makes your job complete. Why did you have to kill the mergo.
You killed tons of old ones why does mergo break it.

>i need everything spelled out for me because i'm a brainlet and post frogs on reddit

Mergo is the source of the nightmare.

Byrgenwerth sent the group to the hamlet, not the fucking church, idiot.

Your goal is to escape the Hunter's Dream and you do so by stopping Mergo from crying which stops the moon being beckoned which makes it so the night can end.

user he already corrected his mistake.

No no, it was retrieved from the dark pit. That's where it was initially. That's why there's an elevator down there and why the Brain was chained and staked. They didn't try to drop it into the darkness - they lifted it out and and prayed to it. The bodies are not on the way to the switch, they are just in front of the Brain. Praying to a Great One.

You're right about moonlight but that has nothing to do with what I was saying.

Based.

>No no, it was retrieved from the dark pit.
I think it was retrieved from the dark pit as well. That's where it was beckoned from.
>The bodies are not on the way to the switch, they are just in front of the Brain. Praying to a Great One.
There are frenzied corpses on the way to the switch near the Winter Lanterns too.

What was the hardest boss in the game for you, for me it was the three niggers of Graham and the old one reborn. Everything else was piss easy compared to them.

Attached: Bloodstarved_Beast_Concept_Art.jpg (1497x1060, 310K)

There's a theory that Vilebloods, or those of Vileblood royalty, since they have "corrupted" blood, they seem to be perfect surrogates for a Great One. For one, the Vileblood Queen is looking to bear a "Child of Blood" with blood dregs harvested by the Cainhurst Hunters from killing Church Hunters, which look conveniently like sperm cells, hence why they are literal cucks. Arianna, also being a Vileblood, manages to birth demon spawn in the one area of the game where Oedon has considerable influence (Oedon Writhe from Adella and Formless Oedon rune from the chapel dweller). From the cord in which the celestial child drops it mentions this.
>"Every Great One loses its child, and then yearns for a surrogate, and Oedon, the formless Great One, is no different. To think, it was corrupted blood that began this eldritch liaison."
Oedon is looking for those with corrupted blood to impregnate, i.e. Arianna. But again only Arianna, as Oedon has influence only in that area of Yharnam, his Chapel.

The best bosses are the ones you beat first go without memorizing patterns or through trial and error.
Prove me wrong.

>Literally just back off when it flails and hit it enough to stun it for a Visceral Attack
Really? Some of the Chalice dungeon Amygdalas are harder for me.

This. And Laurence. Fuck that flaming nigger.

I went back in time to before he did that so it wouldn’t be rude of me to respond, but when I came back to the present it posted so I still look rude...

Interesting.
Thanks.

how??

Meanwhile the only Great One in the game is Moon Presence.
Everybody else is just humans LARPING or trying to become fish people.

Attached: Playing_Bloodborne_frenzy.gif (480x270, 87K)

That lightning faggot because I was level 15 or something. I lost count on how many times it fiddled my diddle.

any boss becomes easy as piss when you overlevel

There are more Great Ones than just MP.

The poison swamp kept killing me.
I lost so many times to that fucking thing about 10.

Also add the dude with the ball and chain in the chalice dungeon.
I lost so many times to him at least 50 times.
He was by far the hardest boss for me.
The other bosses are a cake wall compared to him.

Good luck overleveling on high-number NG+ runs if you aren’t grinding chalice dungeons. Ludwig was kicking my ass earlier tonight on NG+6

Well what I remember was that that huge foam bone drone jertt to bas haha u know man

Attached: 1547672361539.jpg (660x440, 37K)

Pretty sure Rom, Orphan, Amygdala, and Ebrietas are all great ones.

Being level 200 on NG.

how the fuck am i supposed to beat defiled amy when every fucking attack kills me in one hit

fuck goddamn shit fuck

>ywn invisibly impregnate bitches
it's not fair bros

Easily chalice amygdala, but Ludwig was a close second. Orphan of Kos and Laurence I got on my first or second tries but Ludwig took like 25.

Based.

LEARN. TO. DODGE. Also using something with decent vertical attacks so you can stun it for a Visceral Attacks.

>TFW I never played Bloodborne because I don't have a PS4
>But I wrote an entire RPG horror campaign pretty much entirely based on the story of Bloodborne (with some other games mixed in at the end), because it was one of the most interesting worlds/stories I've ever come across.
>TFW none of my friends had played Bloodborne, so to them it was mind-blowing.

I really do miss having to dig through lore videos and wikis to learn all the cool shit to write into the story. It was fun.

Rom and Ebrietas are Kin.

Level more, go to NG+ and get more HP. Chalice dungeons don’t level with NG+ tiers.

There's no porn tho

They're called Great Ones in the trophies.

How the fuck did you level that high on ng?

No, but Orphan seems to be... or at least his mummy was a legit Great One, right?

im on the 11th ng+ with 50+ vit and stuck on rom whos two shotting me

This. Rom and Ebrietas are kin, even mechanically as they take kin bonus damage I think. The actual G.O.s like Amy, MP, Mergo's Wetnurse, and Orphan.

Attached: orphan_of_kos_by_menaslg_dcqruc5-fullview.jpg (1600x905, 280K)

Are the chalice dungeons under the city? Did people find them accidentally while exploring a cave?

Meant to say that yes, they’re kin* but what about the Orphan and his mom?

Chalice Dungeons pay dividends out the ass if you invest properly.

Yes. They lie directly beneath Yharnam and were first discovered by Burgerwerths.

Attached: oh kosm, she was already kos.jpg (1112x1200, 1.38M)

Rom is not a Great One, she's like a child of the Great Ones.

Amygdala is a Great One I believe, but not unique like others seem to be.

Also Kos is definitely a Great One.

Also the Wet Nurse is probably a Great One? I think it is.

They were excavating, probably for research and maybe expanding the city. Other Chalice dungeons are found further away like the Loran dungeons.

Ebrietas is a Great One. Specifically says so in game. Rom is not.

Trophies aren't canon.

Attached: Choir Garb_ Gloves_ Trousers.png (702x322, 383K)

I got most of my lore narrative from the in-game cutscenes and item descriptions and made up my own theories and stories that are pretty much 90% canon.
>deepest lore is knowing that bodies of water are metaphors for planes of existence
>fall into the lake to fight rom in a higher/lower realm
>yharnam is underneath the fishing village water because they live on a lower plane of existence
OC donut steel

>Trophies aren't canon.
Says who?

Laurence was the only boss that got me more than twice in my first playthrough and to this day he still gives me trouble. I legit do not understand why.

Attached: bb.jpg (569x571, 66K)

Rom and Ebrietas were once humans who ascended to Great Ones, so they are technically Great Ones, but the distention of Kin is still necessary.
"True" Great Ones are: The wet nurse, Amygdala, Kos, the orphan, Brain of Mensis, Oedon and Moon Presence.

Says who?

What does three niggers of Graham mean?
Rom is the worse boss in the game gameplay wise

Ebrietas got “left behind” so she didn’t ascend and Rom is called “vacuous” for a reason.

Not a problem, there are other girls to lewd

Ebrietas bleeds the clear liquid when you hit her, like other Kin do.

Chalice Dungeons are under the city, they are the ruins left by the race that lived there before humans, and they extend deep into the earth. They were discovered by the early Scholars, and I believe canonically where they first found the Healing Blood.

These niggas are bullshit on higher NG+ levels fuckkk

sounds fun desu. I wanted to make a 5e setting based around bloodborne but I wouldn't reveal it until the 2nd act, similar to how Yarhar'gul was revelaed at the 2nd act and showed the cosmic nature of bb.

In BL4 runs they are literal filters. Fuck these faggots.

Attached: 24642693e76e0fadb6785207f3334ac8.png (732x900, 782K)

Well, Ebrietas got "left behind" when her kind ascended from Earth and went into the cosmos. The thing about that is, the Great Ones never technically lived on Earth, so they weren't the ones who ascended.

I believe it was the Yharnamites who ascended, but not all of them left.

Rom isn't a great one, but Ebri is.

Ebrietas being "left-behind" is ambiguous, and in Japanese it's written that she was "forsaken / abandoned." There isn't really a direct implication that being "left-behind" means "she didn't ascend."

Why do you think vacuousness means you can't be a Great One?

It's outright stated in the game that Rom was a student at Byrgenwerth. My guess, regarding Ebrietas, is that she was the Pthumerians attempt at creating a Great One, since she was found in the chalice dungeons.

basically cthulhu and lovecraft named his cat niggerman

Every boss theme is good but the pantheon is made up of:
Gerhman
Ludwig
Laurence
Maria
Living Failures
Ebrietas
Wet Nurse is kind of cool

Add to this so I have an excuse to listen to more BB OST

>It's outright stated in the game that Rom was a student at Byrgenwerth.
It's never stated or implied that Rom was a student at Byrgenwerth in any official material inside or outside of the game. All we have to go on is that Rom was granted eyes by Kos. That's it.

Here's a concept I came up with, bear with me. Kinship seems more like a gradient of how close you are from ascension, i.e. becoming a Great One. I mean, here's what I mustered, from least "enlightened" to closest of ascension.
>Beasts
>Humans
>Pthumerians
These beings are tainted with the bestial blood, which accentuates biological devolution or hiders evolution, barring them from ever achieving ascension. Then, there's a higher bracket of mortals that is closer to ascension, Kin of the Cosmos.
>Brainsuckers (primal urge to seek insight)
>Research Hall patients (heads filled with amoeba-like substance that are initial markings of eyes on the inside)
>Living Failures (from the name and general appearance implies they are failed attempts at creating Celestial Emissaries)
>Celestial mobs/Celestial children
>Celestial Emissary/Adeline
>Ebreitas
The Celestial Emissary, which is the only one we fight, can commune with Great Ones. I'm unsure whether the smaller Celestial mobs can do this however. Adeline also seems to be the only exception, as she finally can commune to a Great One (I assume Kos' consciousness) in an aquatic world, as she remarks on its appearance, its voice, and is given a Caryll Rune, a speech of the Great Ones. This is extremely significant, as we witness a Great One speak to a mortal and in nowhere in the game do we ever see a Caryll Rune be created. Communion with a G.O. is probably the highest level of ascension that any mortal can attain. Ebreitas' existence shows otherwise, though. She is the closest a mortal is to ever being a G.O.. She fails to ascend like her ilk, meaning she had potential to ascend into a higher plane of existence. For some reason or another, she is stuck in the waking world. Then there are the true G.O.s: Orphan of Kos, Mother Kos, Amygdala and her Lessers, Mergo, Mergo's Wetnurse, Moon Presence, and Oedon.

>Doesn't bleed blood

Attached: Ebrietas.webm (640x360, 2.2M)

deeper lore is knowing that space, deep sea and the sky are all the same thing.
If you're in the black cosmos where no human can survive and you go down you'll end up in a sky. Going farther down into a sky you'll end up in a sea. going farther down into a sea you'll end up in the abyssal zone.
Going farther down into the abyss you'll find yourself in the cosmos again.
This is why Kos is called Kosm (KOSMos).

No, that isn’t stated at all....

I don't consider that strong enough evidence. She's an abandoned great one from Isz.

Attached: augur.png (702x322, 297K)

Ludwig's and Laurence's themes give me massive diamond cutting boners. I only liked like 5 pieces from all 4 Souls games, but BB's OST was so much better for me.

Ebri was never a human. She was always a G.O and was originally in the chalice dungeons before the Choir put her into the Upper Cathedral.

Yeah, it was interesting. The empty city, the dream aspect, and blood all made for some really interesting horror elements.

It's hard to explain, but I had a lot of fun with the whole Reality/Dream world aspect, giving the players a special lantern early on that could take them back and forth, and I had to make sure to keep the details consistent in each place.

I diverted a lot from Bloodborne's story around the middle though, and actually ripped Path of Exile's plot (the original one, not the expansions) for the last 1/3 of the game, up to and including the Dominus fight as the big finale. Surprisingly, it meshed really well.

It remains one of my favorite RPG experiences of all time and everyone who watched it seemed to love it.

Nope, that isn’t ambiguous at all. You’re fucking retarded. And the Great Ones are conscious. Rom is a Kin and can mask but not create.

I always thought that the brain gave the moon rune because it was trying to warn us about the moon presence

Wet Nurse isn't a great one. She is of pthumerian origin because her appearance is identical to the shadows of yharnam and she serves yharnam by guarding her child.
The child that she is protecting is the great one called Mergo/

I think it helps a lot that they were recorded live for BB. The choir work on Ludwig and Laurence is just insane.

Then why is she the only one who doesn't? All the other ones do.

Attached: Amygdala.webm (853x480, 2.94M)

Ebrietas was probably formerly a Pthumerian. She’s kin, not a great one. Pay attention to the item drops.

BB had the highest ratio of good to bad OSTs. Most of them were great. Dream's OSTs are also really comfy.
youtu.be/1EISe-WdZYE
youtu.be/tf-sLzzPiAU
I also love how the Moonlit Melody has a leitmotif similar to the MP's boss fight. It's really beautiful desu.

Attached: doll sleep.gif (500x696, 115K)

>She is of pthumerian origin because her appearance is identical to the shadows of yharnam and she serves yharnam by guarding her child.

Except that she's also invisible, I believe specifically stated to be just a "voice".

Is Mergo technically a Great One? I know she's the product of Queen Yarnham, a Pthumerian, giving birth to the spawn of a Great One (the Moon Presence, I think?), but I don't know if that counts.

Laurence is the only boss I never beat because after a few tries on him I always just decide he’s bullshit and try something else.

Based.

Attached: Bloodborne Hitbox Laurence.webm (1280x720, 1.95M)

>Nope, that isn’t ambiguous at all.
It is ambiguous. Forsaken / abandoned / left-behind are not synonymous with "did not ascend."
>And the Great Ones are conscious. Rom is a Kin and can mask but not create.
What makes you think Rom isn't conscious? I don't know what "she can mask but not create" is supposed to mean.

If you can create a nightmare, it seems like you’re a Great One, hence why the scholars of Mensis had to use the Brain to make theirs.

Ebri might have origins in the Isz dungeons because we find her there. Reminder that the Isz dungeons also feature those huge centipede things, celestial emissaries, brain suckers and various others found around. So she may have just been a creature that was affected by the eldritch energies emanating from the Isz dungeons. you can't have that many great one tombs lying in a single spot and not have eldritch radiation affect everything around it.

Ebrietas doesn't drop anything except the Isz chalice. What item drops are you talking about? Ebrietas is also outright called "the left-behind Great One" more than once.

But the moon is red!

It's not just that. The compositions themselves are much better in my opinion. There are lot of midi pieces I love from SNES RPGs despite the shitty sounds. My issue with most of the Souls OST is that it doesn't really have any clearly defined melodic lines. BB isn't plagued by this in the same manner. Most Souls. tracks are percussion and chord progressions with different instruments and they end up sounding more like ambience music, it's a huge contrast when compared to something like Laurence's theme, or the to take an example from the Souls games, the Nameless Song.

lore wise I think rom was a pretty cool boss.
>trudge through yharnam and burn werewolves left and right
>trudge through a sickly forest and burn snakes left and right
>all of a sudden eldritch spiders and lake dimensions

items plus the machine gun guy talking throughout and when you actually get to the top give you plenty.

1. The beasts are human
2. Don't trust the clerics
3. Clerics started the whole thing

You now get the idea there is some mass human experimentation going on.

Idk I’m just trolling you because your questions are gay. It says in game that she was left behind, and the meaning is the same in Japanese. She’s might be a Great One, but she sure lacks what the Moon Presence and Oedon are capable of.

Rom isn’t conscious like the other Great Ones are because I say she isn’t, because she’s vacuous. She can mask reality but cannot create new Dreamlands like the Great Ones can.

Wet Nurse doesn't. Why do several items name her as a Great One if she's just kin?

I suppose she could be both?

Are all hunters part of the church?
Are you a part of the church or something else.

they found pthumeru under the city and got the blood and various things like sage hair and yellow backbones from there. But it wasn't until they beckoned the moon presence in old yharnam that there were able to make a pact and prevent some hunters from becoming beasts.

She drops kin coldblood on later playthroughs nigga

Storywise and lorewise, she is a huge focal point in Bloodborne.
She's kind of cute too

Attached: 1454375619598.jpg (675x1020, 179K)

My negro.

I thought the story was more easy to follow and care about than the souls games, probably because it relies on lovecraft tropes.

They don't make it as clear because fromsoft isn't good at telling stories directly and scripting things like that.

My list is:
>Ludwig
>Gerhman
>Laurence (theme only)
>Maria
>Failures
>Ebri
>Orphan
>Darkbeast

I don’t think that applies to Demon’s Souls at all, but I agree for the most part regarding DS1 and 2. DS3 has music quite obviously patterned after that of BB, and I think it does a pretty good job with strong melodic lines. But yeah, not on the level of BB for sure.

Ahem.

FUCK BURGERWERTH AND FUCK HUNTERS.

Attached: 1548242343190.jpg (941x905, 238K)

it was stated very clearly somewhere and thats how so many people unanimously agree that Rom (byrgenwerth student) was given eyes by Kos.

Name one bad OST

Yeah, I just realized that. I'm not entirely sure on the wet nurse. She's a bit of anomaly, since she doesn't bleed blood or that plasma stuff that Kin do. The Wiki has her listed as a true Great One, but I'm not sure how they're getting to that conclusion.

>It says in game that she was left behind, and the meaning is the same in Japanese. She’s might be a Great One, but she sure lacks what the Moon Presence and Oedon are capable of.
Why does that matter? I don't know why you'd assume capability = more Great One.
>Rom isn’t conscious like the other Great Ones are because I say she isn’t, because she’s vacuous.
Vacuous doesn't really mean "not conscious." In Japanese she's called "retarded" instead. I understand the point that you're making, I just think you're inventing standards out of nothing and then classifying things incorrectly because of it.
She doesn't.

There is nothing nonsensical about Bloodborne lore, you're just a dumb American who can't follow a story if it's told non-linearly

It was very clearly stated by Redgrave and it has been passed around as though it's confirmed to be canonical ever since. It's not in the game, I assure you. It's something the community made up.

Guys help I'm stuck on the blood starved beast, been trying to beat it for 10 hours now. I go to fight him, get close, but always lose. His grab attack always depletes almost my full bar and I have to quickly roll away use an antidote and heal otherwise I die. After I die I have to go grind for more bullets and health items and blood to get antidotes and it's just a never ending cycle. What am I doing wrong? I'm so sad and depressed I can't beat this fucker. It took me only 3 times to beat the beast on the bridge and like 5 hours to beat the hunter in the graveyard, what am I doing wrong?

One Who Craves Souls is perfection and Maiden Astraea is part of what makes her fight kino incarnate. I actually can't remember DaS 3 tracks, can you recommend some? I recall liking the menu theme at least.

>I thought the story was more easy to follow and care about than the souls games

I actually think it's more that Bloodborne is self-contained, and it has a start-to-finish narrative. Dark Souls seems more random, with narrative events seemingly written after the world was designed, to tie together tonally and stylistically different enemies and locations.

Also I don't think they do it because they're not good at telling stories, but rather direct narrative exposition seems to get in the way of the game they're trying to make. I'm sure they COULD turn their narrative into dialogue and cutscenes voiced by NPCs, but it seems like it would be much harder to follow, lose a lot of it's intrigue, and just end up being skipped by players who don't care.

They like telling stories through environment and design rather than dialogue and cutscenes because it gives the player more to do, and it's more visually interesting. It makes the game world more than just corridors to fight for people who are looking for details.

What's the best weapon

And why is the Hunter's Axe?

mergo is the "voice" youre speaking of.
Mergo was alive in the waking world but died as a still-birth.
Oedon (the great one without form) gifts her body guards called "Shadows of Yharnam" which 'shadow' her like guards.
In the nightmare dimension, Mergo is beckoned by Mensis because they want some eyes on their brains. Mergo in the nightmare is guarded by a creature called Wet Nurse created by Oedon (note that Wet Nurse is invisible similar to shadows of yharnam).
Mergo is a great one, the daughter of Oedon and Queen Yharnam. It isn't the MP that impregnates Queen its Oedon.

Use a weapon with a fast attack speed. For instance if you are a kirkhammer build, use your sword not your hammer.
This really turned the fight for me.

It was on Twitch over a year ago and I don't think any of is saved except maybe short clips.

What's the best weapon?
Saw spear is obviously.

This too, and the main menu theme, and Gundyr, Oceiros and Abyss Watchers. Whole soundtrack is great, really.

Is the nurse a Great One?

I thought they used the artificial great one called "The One Reborn" to make theirs?
Why does Mensis have 2 great ones in their nightmare?

Facts

Right, it's been a long time so I forgot about Oedeon and all that but yeah. He's the one without form, and she has no body, that was the connection I was making.

Though she does scream I think? So she has a voice, but then so does Oedeon.

>It isn't the MP that impregnates Queen its Oedon.
That makes more sense. Like I said, I never played the game and it's been a while since I read up on this.

The One Reborn has nothing to do with the nightmare, does it?

Who is best girl, and why is it Maria?

Cleaver and Chikage are the best dps
Wheel and Parasite are the most underrated
Reiterspallasch and Stake Driver are the most chad
Holy Blade and Holy Moonlight are the scrubbiest

Yeah that's much better.

I know, but it doesn’t produce the nightmare. They of Mensis produce the One Reborn.

Send me yours and I will.

I couldn’t give a fuck about some retard who obsesses over a game’s story without playing it. But I still find it incredibly based

>Mergo is a great one, the daughter of Oedon and Queen Yharnam. It isn't the MP that impregnates Queen its Oedon.

Consider the following

- In the Chalice Dungeons you find a pregnant Queen Yharnam praying to the Hunter Rune, which is, for all intents and purposes the Moon Presence's rune
- Arianna's child is unambiguously Oedon's, yet not invinsible
- Mergo is the only thing that links the Moon Presence to the Mensis Ritual, it has no reason to care about it otherwise.

Imagine being Gehrman in that dream and having to be all like "damn, Good Hunter, you fuckin' good, all powerful with your ancient echos and horrific blood-drunk monster face. I would totally show you mercy, and let you use the Doll too if you like," when all he really wants to do is kill another 16-foot tall beast in the waking world. Like seriously imagine having to be Gherman and not only sit in that chair while the Hunter flaunts his disgusting body in front of you, the favorable lighting barely concealing his bloodshot eyes and leathery skin, and just sit there, night after night, hour after hour, while he perfected that ritual. Not only having to tolerate his monstrous fucking visage but his haughty attitude as the Doll tells him she LOVES HIM and DAMN, HUNTER'S PRESENCE SOOTHES LIKE THAT?? because she's not the one who has to sit there and watch his abysmal fucking gremlin face contort into types of grimaces you didn't even know existed before that day. You've been killing nothing but a healthy diet of beasts and extraterrestrials and later alleged scourge victims for your ENTIRE CAREER coming straight out of the boonies in Yharnam. You've never even seen anything this fucking disgusting before, and now you swear you can taste the sweat that's breaking out on his dimpled stomache as he sucks it in to hide it shamelessly from the Doll, smugly assured that you are enjoying the opportunity to get nothing to sit there and revel in his "statuesque (for that is what he calls himself)" emboldening, the emboldening he worked so hard for with hours of farming Lecture Building in the previous months. And then the Moon Presence calls for another night, and you know you could kill every single person in this dream before the next Hunter could put you down, but you sit there and endure, because you're fucking Gehrman. You're not going to lose your sweet release over this. Just bear it. Hide your face and bear it.

Attached: 1548659505923.jpg (400x400, 25K)

You mean in the game? By the time the game takes place the Church has pretty much completely collapsed along with the rest of the city, and I believe the true Hunters kind of died out a long time ago, with a few still roaming around fighting a doomed battle against the Beasts that have taken over the city, and eventually turning into Beasts themselves.

Canonically I think the player is someone who arrived in Yarnham from somewhere else, and you wake up after an unknown period of time having been given a transfusion of Beast blood that makes you a "hunter" in the sense that you are given the same immunity all other Hunters get.

But it's not actually the Church that does that to you, they're not really around anymore, and the Workshop is abandoned.

So you're like...just some guy that someone said "Hey let's make this guy a Hunter and see if HE can fix this endless night."

its vague nonsense you're meant to piece together as a player, fags only jerk it off because its babby's first lovecraft experience

>arrived in Yarnham from somewhere else
This got me wondering, are any of the neighboring areas ever named in dialog or item descriptions?

It's not even very Lovecraftian.

no, she is just something created by Oedon, she is really just a bigger better shadow of yharnam (those 3 hooded guys you fight in the forest)
Arianna's child is still alive and wasn't stillbirth.
I doubt the MP had any effect on anything back then, Oedon was the one to make a pact with Pthus. Therefore why would Queen by praying to a rival great one?
Moon Presence can't really be figured out, same as Oedon. The only motives we can discern from them is that they want children but cannot reproduce because something horrible will always befall the kids.
>Mergo ---> stillbirth
>Red Jelly --->dead
>Bastard of Loran --->dead and also enraged the gods
On the subject of that we also know that if you treat a realtionship with disrespect you directly ingnite the wrath of the great ones as see with the Bastard of Loran and the Betrothal Ring. also with the fireball attack by that squatting sage in the dungeons.

Attached: 1527067376176.png (850x531, 324K)

It’s better than a lot of what Lovecraft wrote, though. And it’s also very coherent. Dork.

I don't think its gonna get a sequel. It's a spiritual successor to demon's souls, just like dark souls was, but this time I believe it will be one off and not spawn a series like dark souls did. I think miyazaki is done with souls for awhile. This may be hard to believe for a zoomer, but from software has a very eclectic selection of games, and it seems to me that they are ready to move on to make experimental stuff and new IPs again. They are resting souls as it was obvious the games were just getting worse, you may be able to give dark souls 2 a pass for being bad because miyazaki didn't direct it, but he did direct 3 and it was also ass. The IP needs a rest, miyazaki needs to work on other things to re-ignite the creative juices, and maybe they will come back to this shit in 5-10 years, but don't expect anything soon.

Mergo isn’t the MP’s baby, and that’s final.

>Mergo isn’t the MP’s baby
[citation needed]

most of the hunters have been turned into beasts or just gone blood drunks aside from a few notable ones like Eileen and Djura (possibly because they were once dreaming hunters).
The thirsty beast aka Blood-Starved Beast was a hunter once and then turned once the blood moon descended, same as gascoigne, ludwig, amelia etc.

Bloodborne will absolutely 100% get a sequel on PS5. Also DS3 was great you’re just a fucking idiot. Gay wall of text faggot.

You sound kinda assmad

Well there's a swamp. And there's the Fishing Village, which is somewhere outside of Yarnham, and the lore definitely specifically mentions that at the height of the Church's power due to slinging Healing Blood to anyone who wanted it, people came from all over to get treated. Cainhurst too, you take a carriage there but it never says where it is.

But the game is specifically and intentionally vague as to where Yarnham is in the world, what is nearby it, and what those "other places" might be, because the game is supposed to take place within the confines of the city as if the whole thing is it's own pocket dimension sort of.

I don't think any foreign places are specifically named though.

Where are you getting all this information about Oedon? It isn't really stated or implied anywhere.

its literally not a meme.
You can right-hand a reiterpallash and transform it into pistol+sword mode then left hand a pistol.

Yeah but can you right hand the starter blunderbuss while left handing the repeating pistol, on accident, like my friend in the dream did?

literally any hack and slash/button masher is like these games
>s-stop baiting
soulsborne babies are just the worst kind of children

Far east of what? Dickjerker

I can't recall but there were no other notable great ones in history to make pacts with Pthumerians so it had to be Oedon.

Attached: aliens-trump-meme.jpg (455x400, 18K)

Not him. It was fucking awesome after playing 2 and bloodborne and then finally getting my real souls game. But tbf I didn’t sink over 1000 hours into it like I did the first dark souls.

>I'm surprised you don't know about cainhurst,
...I said I didn't know WHERE it was supposed to be in relation to Yarnham, specifically because you take a carriage there (that could be traveling for who knows how long), and because it's snowy and frozen, which is clearly nothing like the climate of Yarnham, so obviously it's in a very different location.

But the game gives no indication of how close these things are. Next door? A mile away? A hundred miles? Could be anything.

a scruffy intern wrote the trophy descriptions.

Isn't Cainhurst technically part of Yharnam, just on the outskirts? I just assumed this all constituted "Yharnam".

Attached: Bloodborne World Map.jpg (1920x1080, 1.32M)

Yeah DeS is great, it's still my favorite. I dunno about the online supplementing the setting though, I never cared for it in the same way that I didn't in DeS. Sometimes I'd get invaded and it was like having another stage hazard.

What hack and slasher plays like BB?
>he didn’t get it
>he has bad taste
>he sucks at it
>he blows at it
It’s great. Everyone but a few contrarians agree.

monstrous doubt
there are very few item holding glitches and two handing guns isn't one of them

>Thread was flawless for 350 posts
>Gets invaded by waifu fags and shitposters

Attached: 1552327554077.png (1240x1031, 1.24M)

It makes the game more exciting to me
>What hack and slasher plays like BB?
literally any
What exactly makes BB unique to you? The gun?

everyone but a few contrarians agree, yet pretty much everyone seems to shit on it constantly, hmmm, perhaps the opposite is true.

What is great is the souls formula itself, it even made dark souls 2 bearable when it was a complete steaming pile of shit, but I'm sure you'll defend that now, too.

>complains about waifufags
>posts anime girl
makes you think

What makes you think Oedon made a pact with the Pthumerians?

its just outside of yharnam, you can look out to sea and see it sitting there on a rock.
>pic related is a pic of cainhurst from hemwick

Attached: Cainhurst from Hemwick.png (1280x720, 737K)

Based.

Name one hack and slash or just action game that plays like BB. Just one, so long as it isn’t hurr durr dark souls
>pretty much everyone
Not even close. Maybe 2% of the playerbase. DS2 is shit. DS3 is better than DS1

I would have sucked a hundred donkey dicks for a Cainhurst expansion. It was like playing Castlevania, but it was way too short.

You can see it from Hemwick, and vice versa, so obviously it's not too far away.

The only areas not part of/close to Yharnam in game are the Loran and Isz chalice dungeons.

Lol I was just playing devils advocate. I had forgotten about the fact that reiterpallasch because I’ve never done a reiterpalllasch build since I always opt for the rifle spear or bow blade or threaded cane + Evelyn instead.

Gimmick bosses deserve some love. Micolash is easily my favorite one, other than Maiden Astraea.

Attached: OutFuckingSkilledMicolash.webm (900x506, 2.96M)

It's a mistake to assume that the game levels and their proximity to eachother represent the actual locations in the world, because that would make no sense. They roughly approximate their positions, but the actual city is supposed to be much, much bigger. It's more like an abridged version, with the transitions between zones meant to be a shorthand instead of the massive distances that would need to be covered.

I think it's a mistake to take the positions of things in the game world as literal.

>DS2 is shit.
Want to know how I know you're a pleb?

Attached: Dark Souls 2 Acrobatics.webm (746x441, 2.73M)

Loran and Isz are part of the tomb of the gods, which means they're carved out below Yharnam.

I loved them too.

Oh, you’re THAT guy. Yuck. I like my games to play well and look at least passable.

>1 cool sword move in the whole game
>on a weapon I've never seen
great argument, wtf I love DS2 now

>he’s a des fag
>he couldn’t beat each game solo before even enabling online
Holy shit you suck balls

>literally
>any
Im not being hyperbolic, all From Software games are just hack and slashers with RPG stats
Im not even singling BB out

Utterly based.

Attached: kosm.png (542x520, 97K)

Okay, point some out to me. Id like to play some games like souls games

It's not my fault that Maria is cute!

Sounds like you're reading what you want to see, user

chikage fags deserve this shit

I get your point. You might just be able to see the castle because it's a video game and you can go there.

Lore-wise though, it really was once connected to Hemwick Charnel Lane, and the executioners were able to invade, AND the Bloody Crow made his way to Yharnam, so I still don't think Cainhurst is too far away.

>Id like to play some games like souls games
pick up literally any hack and slash
I'm not going to make an autistic list for you so you can nitpick and throw tantrums in response. Google
>Hack and slash video game
and pick ANY

>DS3 is better than DS1
lets not get too crazy man

Wow, that was like so deep, man

Ahem.

FUCK KEKHURST AND FUCK V*LEBLOODS.

Attached: chunky.jpg (314x396, 23K)

Attached: LostIzalith_DaS.jpg (1280x720, 111K)

It isn’t that far away. If you’ve ever been to a place with wintery climate, a snowed in area can be only a dozen miles from a completely dry area.

Maybe if you're retarded, so to the average soulsborne player I guess it would be pretty deep

Yeah man try titans quest that shit kicks ass

a great one made a pact with the pthumerians to have them guard the great ones tombs for eternity. the pthus were then blessed with long life and sorcerer powers and super strength.
what do you need explained? I know if fairly well I think.

Yup, that's gonna get a based and redpilled from me.

Name ONE. ONE game.

Ayoooo!!
>if you don’t like the games why are you in the thread
Literal monkeys on this board

>a great one made a pact with the pthumerians to have them guard the great ones tombs for eternity. the pthus were then blessed with long life and sorcerer powers and super strength.
Where are you getting this information?

absolutely based

No thanks, I would rather play a From Soft hack and slash

>what do you need explained? I know if fairly well I think.
Well, I wasn't looking to get anything explained I just wanted more content. But go for it, who are the Vilebloods and what is their objective? Or, was, since only the queen is left.

He's right though

Why is the ultimate bloodtinge weapon a katana and why the fuck is it located in cainhurst of all places, pretty much no other weapon in cainhurst is of oriental design

Attached: 1479268363344.jpg (400x462, 41K)

I feel like the game is incomplete like theres something looming over our heads with the story and we're missing it.

lmgtfy.com/?q=hack and slash video game
I put over 200 hours into BB though, retard. I don't fool myself into thinking it isn't a basic bitch hack and slash game with HP Lovecraft vibes and flintlocks pistols though

Holy shit your comment just made me realize that “Hack n Slash” and “ARPG” are practically interchangeable terms.

that's intentional, all these games are left with huge holes in their "stories" in order to allow interpretation

okay i pick kingdom hearts
oh fuck they're not similar at all :(

Say the name of one hack and slash game that plays like Bloodborne. One. Thanks for the list and all, but say the name of any game on that list that plays like BB. Any. One. Any. One.

They are, so I dunno if that was sarcasm

Hack n slashes dont typically have you choosing skills to upgrade though, they just give you an ability without your choice in the matter

>unironically uses the terms “basic bitch” and “vibes”
Damn... women are feminine men will NEVER be able to understand Bloodborne.

Literally read the initial posts ITT and you're proven wrong.

>DMC plays like soulsborne
>Bayo plays like soulsborne
>Darksiders plays like soulsborne
You're embarrassing yourself.

Attached: 4ac.jpg (621x621, 77K)

It doesn't say that they made a pact with any specific Great One, just that they were guardians of the "slumbering Great Ones".

lmgtfy.com/?q=hack and slash video game

Glad to see soulsborne fans continue to be petulantly autistic and butthurt that their hack and slash games aren't as deep or meaningful as they think

That’s the Zoomer giveaway

Truth hurts, when it comes down to it 2/3 of those games play better and are actually more difficult than Souls games outside horseshit like DS2. All Souls games have their difficulty flat line mid-game

*Tips Steam account*

Oh shit you're right. I always had this suspicion that Loran is Lordran so I assumed it was far away.

>Some of the scurrying beasts in cathedral ward carrying twin shards won't spawn for whatever reason
I can probably just buy some extra for insight later, but this bug still bums me out knowing I'm an upgrade or two behind where I normally would be.

Attached: 1548300966942.jpg (480x480, 34K)

Nobody thinks they're super deep and meaningful in their gameplay anyway.

Doing things ironically doesn't make them less embarrassing

izalith isn't even the worst, not even on the PS3 before they patched out all the bullshit. It was still blight town and giants tomb

PICK one
You’re so mad LMAOOOOOOOO

It would be cool if we got a regular sword, like a rapier or a shortsword

You'd be shocked by what people believe, user

Dork

>Why is the ultimate bloodtinge weapon a katana
It's not
>and why the fuck is it located in cainhurst of all places
It's not

Attached: bloodletter.jpg (800x1500, 89K)

lmgtfy.com/?q=hack and slash video game
reminder that Souls games not having a difficult option also means you can't make them any harder either without purposefully handicapping yourself

So by that definition Titan Quest, my favorite hack n slash, is not a hack n slash
Nah man Not sarcastic just saying that dark souls is my favorite arpg, and that titans quest is my favorite hack n slash, and if you can’t tell the difference than you must be drunker than I am.

Yeah, you really are with posts like that, Soulsborne fans normally are dorks though

All good things must come to an end. Good thread. I enjoyed venting my lore autism.

Attached: Micolash, host of the nightmare.jpg (600x800, 118K)

I can't remember, but source=trust me bro
>who
A group of nobles who were brought pthumerian blood by a byrgenwerth scholar. The blood was powerful and because it was pthumerian instead of alien they gained the fire and blood powers you see from Maria.
>objective
To create vileblood hunters which go out and kill other hunters, stealing their blood dregs to give to the queen in hopes that she can bear a great one child similar to queen yharnam.
>or was
Yeah the executioners rolled through there are wiped everything, leaving only martyr and the queen.

Wow, that was like so deep, man
Where do you get your ganj bro!!

>yo bro im so drunk rn
jesus christ

This guy is like the barrykun of soulsborne lol

You should probably read that post again, because it applies to that seething-cringe you just produced

Tryhard comeback just makes you look more dorky

Based.

>I can't remember, but source=trust me bro
I know the script in multiple languages by memory and this information isn't in the game, bro.

they got their powers by making a pact with the great ones, the ring of betrothal and bastard of loran descriptions should explain that.
Then after they broke the contract the great ones created they were cursed with vermin in their blood so their city would fall to ruins.

Happy saint patty’s day, sourboi!

>barrykun
literally who

Couldnt even name ONE this whole time good fuck that’s sad

Holy shit man he’s like a prophet.

We shall not abandon the dream, anons.

>Tryhard
I thought the whole point of Soulsborne hack and slashes was to be tryhard though
why demonize it

me too. I realized however that I've forgotten where I got any of this knowledge so I'll need to brush up on my sources soon.

lmgtfy.com/?q=hack and slash video game
couldn't follow this link the whole thread, good fuck that's sad

I'll try and find my source but until then what reasons to the pthumerians have for guarding the great ones?

Holy shit I have never seen one man so butthurt

Don't chip a tooth there, user

imagine how much longer the franchise will last if we get BB2 as a ps5 launch title.
Just imagine.

I've played Titan Quest as well, never would have thought to call it a hack and slash til I saw other people use the term toward it. Dont believe everything that you breathe

I dunno how, the thread is full of butthurt soulsborne fans

A thread is a thread, even in a dream.

Attached: oh kosm.png (1919x950, 1.3M)

Why is this thread still being bumped to the top of the catalogue, it's hit the 500 post limit, fuck off with this meme game.

They were made by the Great Ones to be their servants.

but alas, not too fast...
you're 500 posts too late you BEASTLY IDIOT

Oh kekm

Attached: PC redditors on suicide watch.jpg (670x402, 54K)

You just needed to type the name of a game out that plays like Bloodborne.

>pthumerians made by the greatones
Source.

see

If it plays like Diablo, it’s a hack n slash.
Sorry but thems the rules

Good thread felt good to own that stupid faggot

Was this fucker still seriously thinking he'd achieve his goal by the time you come across him? Receiving audience with a great one or whatever he was hoping for didn't seem like it was hapepening.

lmgtfy.com/?q=hack and slash video game

Reminder that Mergo is MP's child

you can fuck off back to you BANG BANG PULL MY REDDIT TRIGGER threads now

Type the name of one here on Yea Forums that plays like BB. You can’t do it LMAOOOO

yeah, imagine thinking soulsborne games have anything special about them compared to other hack and slashes

“Hunters have told me about the church.
About the gods, and their love.
But, do the gods love their creations?
I am a doll, created by you humans.
Would you ever think to love me?
Of course, I do love you.
Isn’t that how you’ve made me?”

he straight up has mergo right there but we kill him and so he can't do much else
stop being retarded
MP created the doll, but that doesn't mean Oedon created pthumerians.

that is some thick irony

Seething dork got BTFO by so many posters
Select one yourself and type its name in the thread. You honest to God cant do it holy fuck

Prove me wrong retard

Who was the guy that asks for the password in cathedral ward, the fact that theres nothing on this guy scares me

Attached: mico.png (500x500, 213K)

why did you faggots shit up a good thread? we don't care about your fucking hack n' slashes, we just wanted some lorefagging.

Attached: 1549951399316.png (600x570, 157K)

Kosm is the most important piece of deep lore in the game.
It shows that the sky and the deep sea and the cosmos are linked.

Read more. I suggest Heracleitus’ Fragments and Pound’s Cantos.

>MP created the doll, but that doesn't mean Oedon created pthumerians.
The dialogue is talking about humans being the creations, not herself.

Oedon is formless
Mergo is formless
Oedon is associated with alchemical blood
MoonPresence is associated with alchemical quicksilver / mercury
Pthumerians were gifted power through their blood
Moon Presence gifts immunity to beasthood through quicksilver

Tbf we got a good 400 posts before the shitter derailed it. It’s literally been the same fedora tipper this whole time.

Kosm doesn't fucking exist, so it can't be part of the lore. Her name is KOS

>good thread
>retards pretending item descriptions can construct a plot and setting by themselves
yeah ok

I accept your surrender, faggot :)

Willem kept two loyal servants back at Byrgenwerth. When they were sent into the labyrinth, they encountered the eldritch Truth, and went mad. One became the password gatekeeper, while Dores became a graveguard of the forest. Both remained loyal, even in madness. Note found in Cathedral Ward: A watchman of Byrgenwerth guards the gate with a password, the sacred adage of the Grand Cathedral. Before passing through the gate you can prompt his dialogue: "The password... ...password... ...the password... ...knows I'm at the door and got to... ...got to close the door... ...got to close..."; "...oh no, no, no, someone at the door, got to get the door... ...let's get the door, let's get the door... ...who's there, who's there..."; "...don't you wish you could hear them when they're coming... ...you musn't... ...oh, no, no... ...it bit me, bit me... ...he was bleeding..."; "...oh no, no, no, he was bleeding, he wasn't... ...knock... ...no, no, no, not like that, not that, no, no, no..."; "...gotta get the door, must get the door, no, no, no, knock, knock, knock, all day, knock, knock, knock, knock all day, all day, all day, all day..."

Most likely one of Willem's servants mentioned in an item description. Would explain why he knows the password to begin what.
What gets me more is that he's the only dude you come across in the game that seems to have powers from beyond the grave, (not counting dream/nightmare versions of already irl dead people).

I really do hope this thread is on several layers of irony though
otherwise there might be something wrong

Read the initial posts ITT, you groid.
