Not to be confused with Nicalis.
I never get to talk about these games, so let's try to get a thread going.

What are your favourite Nifflas games?
I've been going back to the freeware games from the 00s and enjoying them a lot. Knytt Stories in particular. There are still a huge amount of levels to download from the archives.
Wondering what he's up to these days. Knytt Underground was quite a while ago now. It was pretty alright. Could definitely do without the terrible writing and character art, but other than that it felt like a good Knytt game.

fond memories of Within a Deep Forest
indie games from before they were called "indie" had a lot of soul
The first two Knytt games are so soothing. Do not care for the artstyle of Underground though
I have Knytt underground installed, but I'm yet to give it a try.
Can someone rate it compared to his other works?
KU really dropped the ball in the art department and not just when it came to character portraits.
Taking photos of real life objects and editing them into background elements was kinda novel for Saira, but in hindsight it really doesn't look too good. Seeing real life photorealalistic plants against the simple geometrical caves is jarring.
I've always liked the simplistic layout of Nifflas games. Everything is very basic squares most of the time and the little critters and such are charming. They're obviously very stylized because Nifflas is a pretty shitty artist. But, they worked within the context of the games' simple visuals.
Hell, look at the background in . Looks ten times better than anything in KU, in my opinion.
If you like Knytt and Within a Deep Forest, you will like Underground because it literally is Knytt+WADF. You can run, jump, climb, but also press a button to instantly transform into ball mode, effectively making the game play like WADF.
There are some pretty neat platforming puzzles that utilize these simple mechanics. Such as climbing up way high, dropping down as a ball to get a huge bounce up some other area you wouldn't be able to climb up.
There are also some temporary power-ups scattered around as well that are used for similar platforming puzzles. It all flows together very nicely.
The only problems with it is the awful dialogue and the attempt at a story. Then there are like side-quests? I'm not really sure what the point is, but they're all pretty much just fetch quests. You can ignore them and just explore the world at your own pace.
Within a Deep Forest, damn...that brings me back
I like that big one with a huge map. Played all knytt and saira but don't really remember much other than the music being relaxing as fuck and enjoyable exploration
What is Nifflas doing these days?
>I like that big one with a huge map
Are you talking about Gaia? Because there's a KS level called Gaia and I think it's the largest one.
I fucking loved that level. So many varied scenes and environments to explore. Getting really nostalgic just thinking about it.

I've seen his name pop up in game jams and stuff. But, I don't think he's actually working on any big projects or anything.
He's always been more inclined to make short, experimental single-concept games.
No, I remember it was specifically a knytt game. Even own it on steam.
That's probably Knytt Underground then.
I used to put on a playlist of Knytt/Stories music to fall asleep to.
God, the soundtracks were so comfy.

Fuck, man. I remember sending that shit around to all my friends and laughing my ass off to their reactions on MSN.
I couldn't get into Knytt Underground. The black tiles just kill me
I replay WADF at least once a year

Same. It's one of those games I've replayed some 10 times now.
