I agree, Octolings should be unique fighters with S2 weapons like the Dualies, Brella, Autobomb or Bloblobber as well as unrepped S1 weapons like the Splatling. Booyah Bomb was made to be a final smash as well.
I just wouldn't mind an Octo Echo if it meant them getting in the game at all, since they likely won't be DLC.

Dr. Mario and Isabelle aren't echoes though. If Funky got even a few changes that separated him from DK he would be his own fighter because he would need a full on balancing cycle.
