When was the moment where you realized that Nintendo's games were going downhill?
When was the moment where you realized that Nintendo's games were going downhill?
When I realized Nintendo was never going to make another Zelda as great as Twilight Princess
>Mario
Super Mario Odyssey
>Mario Kart
Mario Kart 7
>Zelda
Twilight Princess
>Pokemon
XY
>Smash Bros
Smash Bros was never good
>Windwakerfags still salty that they're "cult-classic" suddenly toppled over on itself after HD and now everyone claims they never liked it
LMAO
Rent free, WW wasn't even mentioned
WWfags fear the TP.
This.
Twilight Princess made me kind of realize the Nintendo Bonus was real, I was in denial, but by Phantom Hourglass and Skyward Sword I finally accepted the truth. Breath of the Wild is just another example.
>Twilight Princess made me kind of realize the Nintendo Bonus was real
Wind Waker mate, unfinished game that got passes for looking nice.
> Bbbubt Wind Waker
Rent free
twilight princess is fucking trash you deluded zoomer
This. Never cared them once they jumped to 3d. Then again, i also grew up.
Super Mario Bros.
Sorry brah, it's the truth. Without the cell shading WW is the worst Zelda.
To be fair pioneering an entire artstyle is worthy of praise. But yeah, Windwaker was painfully barren of overworld content and clearly unfinished
>To be fair pioneering an entire artstyle is worthy of praise.
It's pretty nice, but the HD version's bloom effect kinda ruins it.
TP was the start, but Brawl and Galaxy were the nails in the coffin
Twilight Princess is the only true successor to Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask.
> Galaxy
> Not a 10/10 masterpiece
What's wrong with you?
Wind Waker is an unfinished 8/10+ game.
Twilight Princess is a 7/10 game, I played it around the same time as Okami, Capcom's game, albeit flawed, was superior in almost every single aspect.
>To be fair pioneering an entire artstyle is worthy of praise.
Jet Set Radio? Fear Effect (not true cel-shading, but same concept)?
Twilight Princess is a great game though
Super Mario 64 is also a great game, and we've had even better Mario games since (Sunshine)
Windwaker and its HD remaster are also both good though
There has never been a bad 3D Zelda I don't know what you people are on
>nooooooooo, I want poppy colors!
t.windbaby
>
its like you never rven played wind waker.
>Twilight Princess is a great game though
>There has never been a bad 3D Zelda (what's Skyward Sword?)
imagine believing this
No matter how much you cry about it, it will never be true. Everyone hates Twilight Princess
>Losing to Spirit Tracks
OH NO NO NO
See this
>Okami, Capcom's game, albeit flawed, was superior in almost every single aspect.
Good joke
>random ranking list that had shitter sword as both better than TP and WW
Way to null your own argument
>this ranking rectifies the major handholding issues of WW
Pretty sad desu.
Seething
>>Twilight Princess is a great game though
It is tho.
>Seething
SEETHING
Breath of the Wild is the best Zelda game ever made and your garbage opinion will not change this fact
ITT: Seething Snoys
New Super Mario Bros. I don't think it's a downhill trajectory they've maintained, though. Even back then it was followed with the Galaxy games and DKCR/TF. BotW and Odyssey are similarly inspired, though I don't actually like BotW that much.
I think where Nintendo have been consistently dropping the ball is games like Kirby or the Yoshi stuff, where cool aesthetics and game design ideas are squandered on being bland pushovers, or Star Fox Zero which was such a misfire it's baffling. WiiU aside I think Nintendo have weathered the last fifteen years better than most developers. Certainly better than the other first-parties.
> Everyone hates Twilight Princess
Looking at Metacritic scores proves this objectively false. No Zelda is hated by everyone. Every Zelda, no matter how shitty, has rabid fanboys. The difference is, Twilight Princess is actually a finished game unlike Wind Waker
> Ubishit open world survival
> Better than Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess
Fucking zoomers
I'd agree with this. I think they've been consistent with their big franchises but the more B tier stuff has been getting mishandled. It wasn't until recently that I actually found out Kirby was really good at one point because the recent games are so bland.
Had me until the last sentence. I love platform games, but Super Mario 64 is a mediocre platformer with awful controls and camera
There's a collective agreement that SS sucked.
You never see SS in a top 5 Zelda ranking anywhere, and rarely you see it in a top 10.
No amount of MUH ZELDA CYCLE XD memers will change that.
>The Legend of Zelda
>A Link to the Past
>Ocarina of Time
>Majora's Mask
>The Wind Waker
>Link's Awakening
>Oracle of Seasons / Ages
>The Minish Cap
>A Link Between Worlds
Those are the worthwhile Zelda games, the rest are not worth your time, but if you want more similar experiences, go play Alundra 1, Okami, Gunman's Proof, Crusader of Centy, Marvelous (probably Aonuma's best game), Landstalker (if you can stand the isometric view and lack of shadows). Beyond Oasis is also very good, but far more action-oriented.
You forgot Twilight Princess, Okami was trash.
SS was decent. Not great, but decent. Better than BotW and WW.
>>A Link Between Worlds
Fuck that, just play ALTTP
> There's a collective agreement that SS sucked.
Not really. There's a collective agreement that it's worse than classic Zelda, but it's still better than the average modern AAA game. And I don't really know how this rebuts what I said. If anything, it proves that Twilight Princess has held up better than Skyward Sword
Name a better 3D platformer that isn't another Mario game. The camera does indeed suck, but the core movement and level design of 64 are great.
>When was the moment where you realized that Nintendo's games were going downhill?
My fucking face when the most recent flagship Nintendo titles are two of the most acclaimed games of all time.
KYS OP, there's no comfort for you.
Adventure of Link is pretty good. You also forgot Crystalis in your Zelda-likes.
Super Mario 64 was amazing for its time, one of the few non-overrated N64 "classics".
Galaxy is peak 3D platformer. Odyssey is tosh.
>>The Wind Waker
Out of all the listed, this one is definitely not worth the time. It does nothing better than it's 3D predecessors or successors.
Stay assmad TP cuck
This. The Zelda-like bits are incredibly subpar by the franchise's own standards, while the experimental bits like sailing fare better but still feel too undercooked. WW has a decent story and artstyle but that's about all it has.
Lol EZ.
> Psychonauts
> Jet Set Radio
> Spyro
> Ape Escape
> Voodoo Vince
I could go on, but I think I've made my point
>don't mention TP
>wwfag does it first
:^)
Quality post. Also beyond oasis is my shit
Mario Sunshine
Wind Waker
>Jet Set Radio
70 on Metacritic (X360 release).
Why is the Sega Bonus so weak in comparison to Nintendo Bonus?
That you don't know what you're talking about? Indeed you have.
I've listed 5 games with functional controls. You've listed a game where you literally can't walk in a straight line or turn around without the controls fucking up.
Wind Waker design meetings
>Let's make 90% of everything ocean so we can make the game world feel big without putting in the actual work
>We'll add a bunch of submarines, lookout platforms, and coral reefs, but each one will be the exact same except for the enemies
>How about every time you want to go somewhere, you have to take out the Wind Waker, play a song, and watch a cutscene to change the wind direction
>Let's make sure none of the dungeons are anywhere near as good or memorable as OoT's
>Boat combat should cause Link to just fall out after one hit, so if you're surrounded by enemies you just get wombo-combo'd over and over again
TP on the other hand had some of the best and most memorable dungeons in the entire series, and a lot more of them.
When Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker released, they were rushed and basically unfinished
Cope
> People were so excited to get a new Zelda game on the Wii that didn’t star big-headed Toon Link that they managed to enjoy this thoroughly mediocre entry into the genre.
> Giving Link the ability to turn into a werewolf added nothing to the gameplay, and the dungeons weren’t memorable in any way. Throw in the underpowered graphics from the console and you got a C-grade Zelda title that somehow ranked higher than any other game in the series on Metacritic - IGN.com
>TPfags can list many WW flaws
>WWfags can list many TP flaws
>both games have 95+ metascores
Nintendo Bonus isn't rea--
>JSR
>functional controls
Game would be a literal 10/10 if its physics and collision detection weren't so screwy.
New super mario bros. Wii. It seemed just like the DS game which everyone played as a kid. It just seemed more of the same.
And the the fact we already got so many mario games on the wii but not many others was a concern.
You forgot
>three side quests are skulltula-like collecting quests
>dungeons weren’t memorable in any way.
WWFag cope
>Mario
Sunshine. Galaxy and Odyssey were outliers.
>Zelda
Wind Waker, BotW is an outlier.
>Pokemon
D/P and their micromanaging nonsense. The series hasn't really felt good since.
>Metroid
Prime 2. Samus Returns was a step in the right direction
>Mario Kart
Probably the only consistent series Nintendo has.
>Smash
Brawl. 4 and U feel like two halves of the same coin.
AHEM
8.8
At the end of the day, both games feature top of the line polish and presentation for their time. Well, maybe not TP but that was set to release as new generation hardware was coming in, only to be delayed a year. By 2005 standards, it was fine.
>mediocre entry into the genre.
TP was good.
That wasn't me, that was IGN.com telling you that. Every Journalists knows TP is complete shit, and always praises WW, MM, OOT & BOTW
I don’t think Kirby and yoshi games are aimed for us, to be fair.
I’m playing WWhd and I’d forgotten how comfy sailing around was
>pioneering an entire artstyle is worthy of praise.
Cell shading had been done to death already.
TP was so shit that more people ended up remembering Okami as the GOTY instead of a Zelda title
ALTTP, LA, and BOTW are the only Zelda games that are truly great. Everything else is shit for various reasons.
I doubt that considering hardly anyone played Okami at the time. Its HD rereleases are probably more successful.
>>Mario Kart
>Probably the only consistent series Nintendo has.
Mario Kart 7 is a 6/10 game
>relying on fucking IGN
The absolute state of WWcucks, holy shit. Okami won a award for selling the least amount of title and killing its devs.
I love it when people come out with statements like this. Show me some data to back that retardation up. Is your sample...you?
Wind Waker is the worst 3D Zelda in the series. Even worse than Skyward Sword
JSR controls do have some problems but it's still significantly better than SM64 which was the point I was trying to make
this but with OOT and MM as the only good 3D games
>BOTW
BOTW is 7/10 though, "journalists" are praising it because it's the lastest thing.
They used to highly praise the mediocre SS when it was fresh as well.
>Even worse than Skyward Sword
The sad truth, SS was Aonuma's attempt at fixing the inadequacies of WW but went too far and ruined the game.
I like how WW fanboys always fellate it as a masterpiece despite its dogshit second half
oh, but wait
>b-b-b-b-b-b-b-but its COMFY!
>ALTTP, LA, and BOTW
one of these is not like the others
Ehhhh I think you're pushing it a little. WW may be unfinished but at least it didn't have an ungodly amount of bloat and the pacing of a tortise like SS. But at any rate, neither of them can be the worst because that spot is occupied by BOTW
Except it's not. God, do I fucking wish it was though. Might be in the running for my favorite game if that was actually true. 64's issues aren't so much the controls as the camera anyways. Mario controls just fine, if not a bit slippery when building up momentum for the whole second of acceleration that takes.
Notice how BOTW and LA do not directly lift ALTTP's structure and story the way literally every other Zelda minus MM do.
>but at least it didn't have an ungodly amount of bloat
Agreed. I've never really understood what people saw in WW to praise it so heavily. The things it was initially criticized for back in the day were actually its best qualities, it's everything else that everyone turned a blind eye to that fell short.
yikes
that's probably Arin the faggot raptor playing this. I can already see it.
oh, here's something to think about. TP also these shitty environment shots that show you the solution from the very beginning. WW was doing that a little less so.
yes, Zelda is a kiddy franchise for 5-12 year olds with undeveloped brains.
>dude ALTTP clones lmao
might as well add Zelda 2 to the list
How many tries did it take you to turn right while hanging from the grate in hazy maze cave? To walk across the board at the top of wet-dry world? To jump onto the pole in the volcano in lethal lava land? There are parts of SM64 that are straight up broken. JSR had nothing as bad as those instances
>WW was doing that a little less so.
That is from the final dungeon.
Basically the GameCube. All the GameCube games sucked. The only interesting ones on that system were the Prime games but they were really slow paced.
A little before the wii's end. It had some amazing games but many more garbage ones. Not even counting the terrible 3rd party games. Then they showed that fatass tablet known as wii u. I knew it was over. At least on the home console side. Cause i think the 3ds is a great system.
Not required
Zelda 2 has some pretty serious flaws I can't ignore.
were you playing with a fucking keyboard
it was the first time they made mario's basic movement not feel good. platforming between planetoids and motion controls were both really lame gimicks aswell. enemy designs were also the weakest in the series and the design of things in general were a huge step down after sunshine.
but...it is
you cant get the shard unless you pay him to decipher it
The truth is: OoT is the only truly great 3D Zelda because there was nothing like it at the time in 3D. Megaman Dash was just okay.
MM, WW, TP are all 8/10 games with boosted scores thanks to the Nintendo logo on the box.
No, I was playing the VC version on the Wii U.
Perhaps I'm mistaken. I didn't actually beat the game because I quit at the triforce quest. Maybe I didn't get to that part
JSR's second level is a hard casual filter. By no means a bad stage but you WILL know by the end of it if you can handle its jank or not. For me, the huge ass gap at the top of the level with the crane hanging off was the bane of my existence for days, just trying to maintain a proper jump trajectory and slide across the wall to make it to the other side. Had a harder time with that than anything in SM64 IMO. Eventually it got easier but it never settled into a smooth groove for me the way this sort of game ought to, which is sad because I saw how this shit was supposed to work but I couldn't get it to happen.

WW is still shit mate
Cope more contrarian
JSR physics are undeniably janky but for me they were an acquired taste and once I got used to the controls I was able to enjoy the game.
>it's contrarian to not like unfinished slog
That's still the only Zelda game that I own and never finished. It's so painfully dull, shame that's the only instance Midna shows up in a game aside from Hyrule Warriors.
>Ocarina tops all three
still the king
> It's not a contrarian to like a complete piece of shit that even Miyamoto himself said it was missing soul
True. I think the same could be said of SM64, except its controls I didn't find nearly as hard to use.
>giving a fuck about what Miyamoto will suddenly make the entire third half the game better
The Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild
When they turned the latest Mario and Zelda games into generic sandbox filler collection games just cause open worlds are the biggest trend right now.
OoT's still the best overall designed 3D Zelda. If you like one over it, it's because you really enjoy its strengths and can easily brush aside the flaws. For me, I like TP more than OoT but TP's less savory qualities don't bother me in the slightest while I'm head over heels for its dungeons and hidden skills. That's a me thing, though. It's really hard for me to assert that TP is outright superior when OoT doesn't pull anything like the bug hunts or has more sidequests worth a damn while also having equally proficient dungeons and arguably better combat scenarios.
